I used to love this place as it's my neighborhood liquor store but all that changed today when I was told over the phone this morning that they still had one last bottle of the Fortaleza Winter blend. Literally the only liquor store I will go to. Everyone there is really friendly and the guys wear bow ties! It's more than just a liquor store.. it's like a mini mart. They have avocados and lemons and limes ... they have salami and so many cheeses. They have sandwiches and condiments and ice cream and candy. I can't tell you how many times Iv gone in there not even for alcohol! Ha ha. But on the topic of alcohol.... they have a great variety. They also special ordered a bottle of Montelobos mezcal that I wanted.... then they ended up stocking the shelfs with it so I can buy it on the regular! I wish I could give 0 stars. I come with literally my REAL ID and the man says it's fake. So I have to go home and get my passport because he's convinced it's fake (luckily I live close by) and then when I bring my passport which showed it was real and I am 22 years old he starts to lecture me and talk to me in the most rude manner I've ever heard someone in customer service or in general speak to me. He was acting like he was doing me a favor giving me my ID and wouldn't give it back or my passport back unless I listened to him very disrespectfully lecture me. He said it wouldn't work anywhere else but I've never had this issue. Not sure who the employee was. The one with black hair was very nice and understanding and if he had asked me for a second form of identification it would have been totally fine. Moral of the story: if you think the ID is fake be kind. Beware! Really enjoyed the atmosphere and location, however the place is run by self entitled Karen's. I parked my car in the handicap spot, placed my placard and walked to the cross walk. It was at this time I was verbally assaulted by, a blonde haired blue eyed self entitled young man. He asked me if I was taking out, ordering out, or dining in. I asked him: Are you talking orders? He said no, of course not ( then why ask?). He asked me; you're going over to Rockies right? I just want to know how long you're going to be in "Our" handicap parking spot because this is private property. I asked him did he know traffic/ parking law? Nope. I then said, you can't prevent someone with a handicap placard from parking in a designated handicap parking spot. He responded, don't be too sure about that. He called me an asshole and walked away. (His actions were unstable, and probably trying out way too much of their product). I said what, excuse me? He never turned back and walked away. One of the strangest experiences I have had. Came in yesterday with my bicycle. I was asked to leave it at the front of the store, so I leaned it up against a fridge. The bald man behind the register told me it had to go somewhere else but didn't give any indication so I tried to prop it up again. He then me yelled at me from across the store "what is wrong with you?" And then told me "you should just go somewhere else". Another employee then asked me why I didn't just walk it through the store, which was my plan initially. I understand that the bike can be an inconvenience, but they should have just told me it wasn't allowed inside. Instead they chose to berate me. I am 31 years old and went in with my roommate who is also over 30 but realized she forgot her id so she walked out and I was trying to buy 2 bottles of wine and the cashier scanned both, thought the second was for my friend and put it behind the counter after scanning it. I asked if I could have it and he said nope she didn't have an id. You would think if it was for someone underage I wouldn't bring them in the store with me??? I am over 30, I should be able to buy two bottles of wine. If he wasn't going to sell to me because someone with me didn't have an id, you shouldn't have let me buy either bottle? I left and noticed the charge on my credit card was for both bottles and called the place as I was running late to a dinner and said I was charged for both and they tried to lie about it. I pulled up my credit card and at least they offered to void it out but to charge me for the bottle and then say you won't give me the item you deliberately scanned? This store has great prices on alcohol and it also has groceries and deli. I got a bottle of red and white, rum, vodka, soda and snacks. Tried out the Western Son vodka this time instead of my usual Tito's. I like it, I'm glad it was recommended. The guys are real nice and helpful, and looking very dapper! Oh Crest, for the past three years I have been a frequent here. The people there know me by first name and I do know much of them by theirs, which is always nice to see a friendly face. Service- Ladies at the deli are sweet, gentlemen at the cash register are always helpful. Deli- Cordon Bleu sandwich is my favorite with the French Dip coming in close second. The Macaroni salad here is the BEST I have ever had. Liquor- The selection is great the prices are better then fair. Staff is super cool but more on the old school / salty side. but if you're looking to be fawned over, go to Nordstrom or a Lexus dealership. Really good liquor supply but the local craft selection is what keeps this place from being 5 stars (Duck Foot and Dogfish Head please). There are multiple reasons why I'm not fond of this place. For starters, their selection of drinks is incredibly lacking - mostly just frat boy party pleasers, none of the local brews or spirits that help San Diego stand out. Another, a very minor point, but the staff seems stiflingly old fashioned - buzz cuts, tucked shirts, and a matching personality reminiscent of a used car lot of decades past. The two points prior are minor and forgivable, but the forthcoming is why I'm leaving one star. For months now they have been boldly flying a flag of hate and oppression. Every day I have to see it on my commute to and from work. The flags racist message is not aimed directly at me and it still puts me in a very sour mood every day - I feel sorry for those that it is intended for. I usually consider San Diego as a safer place to live, but right by my own house there's a constant reminder that even here there are people who choose to very loudly express their own hatred towards other citizens. You know this is mostly due to the service I receive almost daily. I live around the corner from here and it was my go to store. However the people who work there are mostly rude and seen friendly to there more well known regulars. That's not too say every employee is rude! A few are talkative and friendly but usually I feel like I am givin the cold shoulder while getting my purchases. After yesterday I will most likely not be returning here's how it went down. Me: good morning! Man behind counter: grunt Me: can I have a pack of Marlboro lights and a pack of kools soft pack? Man behind counter: we don't have kools in the soft pack. Me: yes you do. A man ordered A whole carton a week ago. Man behind counter: WELL I DONT SEE THEM! Me: ok I'll take a hardpack then. Man behind counter: ( grunts slams down smokes and rings me up) I pay and go to put my smokes in my bags I brought with me because I just came from the grocery store Man behind counter starts giving me head and arm signals to move because I'm not moving fast enough to help one of the Better known.regulars . I'd heard about how great the deli was here so I thought I'd pop in today. This is a review of the deli only. 3 wiseguys run the cash registers. Slicked back hair, tacky ties, arms folded; they resemble bail bondsmen from the 80's flick 'Midnight Run'. I got the 'who the F are you' stare down immediately when I asked if the deli was open. So great! I wanted to play along. But I have to ask: is this look/attitude really necessary in a PB liquor store? Does this place get robbed a lot or something? Maybe I'm just old school for thinking that when someone puts a sign up that says "Deli" and "Fresh Deli Items daily" it implies that a human is making the sandwiches to order? There's actually a deli kitchen and service area inside that gives off the appearance that there 'might' be someone available to take an order. I'm a PB native, and just moved down the street from the store. There's another, closer liquor store but the selection isn't as vast so I've been trying to make myself check this place out instead. Finally made the time to stop in during the day around 1:30, I came in and the store was empty. Minus an old timer cashier lady and a young guy in waaaay too tight skinny jeans and converse. I was the only customer in the store and as I walked around was proceeded to be watched everywhere I went, making me super uncomfortable. I looked for the white claw, I only wanted one, and was looking for a single can; they only had one flavor on the wall, so I asked if they had any others. The young man talked over the older lady only to tell me white claw makes only one flavor in single cans. I noted the annoyance in answering me, and instead of educating the guy on his own product (they do NOT only make ONE flavor in their tall cans) I grabbed a doctor pepper and the single can anyway and proceeded to check out. My ID was demanded of me before I even made it to the counter, making me laugh out loud as I handed the lady the card. I'm 31, covered in tattoos head to toe and have never been treated like this in any liquor store. Needless to say, I'll be bringing my business to the shittier liquor store closer to my apartment. I refuse to be treated like I'm stealing let alone trying to purchase alcohol under age. Makes sense why there was no other customers in the store or parking lot, and I wasn't surprised by their ratings on Yelp either. read more
