My husband and I spent a delightful afternoon with friends at Greenhill Vineyards in Middleburg, and from the moment we arrived, everything was a perfect 5-star experience. First, a shoutout to our wine server, Hannah, who was absolutely fantastic. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the wines without ever making us feel like we needed a sommelier certification to enjoy them. She guided us through the $20 tasting, which included a wonderful mix of whites and reds. It worked out perfectly because I'm a white wine fan while my husband prefers reds, so naturally we shared every pour and declared ourselves a two-person tasting committee. Now let's talk about the food. The truffle popcorn should probably come with a warning label because it is highly addictive. We kept saying "just one more handful" until the bowl mysteriously emptied itself. The fresh baguette with pimento dip was equally delicious and paired beautifully with the wines. The winery offers plenty of seating options, whether you prefer lounging on the grass, relaxing indoors, or enjoying the covered patio. We chose the covered patio, which provided the perfect balance of fresh air, vineyard views, and shade. And yes, I'm actually going to mention the bathrooms. They were some of the nicest winery restrooms I've encountered--modern, spotless, stylish, and clearly well-maintained. It's one of those little details that says a lot about the overall experience. Great wine, delicious food, beautiful setting, immaculate facilities, and outstanding service from Hannah. Greenhill Vineyards has earned every one of these five stars. My group came here after a funeral for some down time, and it was just what we needed. It was after sunset and in the late fall, so the grounds were cold but beautifully lit by the setting sun. They have a vast lawn with picnic tables, framed by the mountains in the distance. It would be a beautiful place to visit in warmer months, but on that chilly day, the tasting room was quite cozy with inviting wood accents and local decor surrounding the bar and tables. I especially enjoyed the artwork by a couple local artists and bought some printed art cards on the way out. Two of our group did a wine tasting while the rest of us ordered individual glasses at the bar. I didn't catch the name of the person who served us, but she was very informative and friendly. My chenin blanc was crisp and satisfying. It was later in the day on a weekday, so the place was quiet and relaxed. If we had stayed longer, I would've been interested in their mezze menu. What an amazing experience for my first visit at Greenhill. I stumbled here when looking for wineries in the area and loved that it was a 21+ winery. I decided to stop in for a wine tasting and it did not disappoint! Before you even enter, there is a welcome tent at the corner of the parking lot who greets you and provides all the necessary info for first timers. When you arrive the tasting room, there is a long bar for tastings as well as indoor seating. I snuck in the end corner of the bar and was taken care of by Malorie. She was great! She is a former educator and I am currently, so we bonded over this. I decided to do the wine tasting to sample different wines. I sampled 6 wines and literally every single one! I opted to grab some truffle popcorn to go with my glass of wine. The vibe was lively. The bat was bumping socked with folks while I was there and then outdoor seating was littered with people as well. I really enjoyed my first experience with Greenhill and learning about their history. Will definitely be back! read more

This is a lovely place with lovely wines. We were fortunate to be with a friend who's a club member so we spent our afternoon up in the club room trying a wide range of wines. The employee serving our table was wonderful and incredibly generous, letting us try tastes of any open bottles they ha that we were interested in. I just wish she had some help (there was a long wait time between pours) but that's not her fault. The chardonnay (yes, both of them) was my favorite. The one was super unique and the other had the classic okay taste youd expect of a chardonnay. My other favorite white wine is also Michelle Obama's favorite *swoon*. The reds were also delightful but were a bit overpriced for what you get, in my opinion. That wouldn't stop me from coming back by any means. They had some varietals you don't see very often in this region like zweigelt and nebbiolo. If someone asked me if Greenhill is worth the visit, I'd absolutely say yes! read more

Trey was an amazing host. We felt welcomed and had a great experience doing an at the bar tasting. We were served out of specialty glasses which was unexpected. If you're a wine lover it's a nice surprise being offered Riedel stems. The different charcuterie boards were excellent. We did the Italian style board with the Nebbiolo.... Bullseye. The atmosphere is upscale and cute. If I lived closer I would consider being a wine club member. The outside space is spacious and we didn't have an issue finding a table right outside the tasting room. We obviously enjoyed the wine since we both left with several bottles. Not sure if we came on and off day but customer service was not friendly at all and rather off put-ish. There was barely anyone here on a Friday afternoon, yet the person behind the bar was almost annoyed to have to answer our wine related questions. Eeek it made it so uncomfortable that I only ordered one glass of wine and left right after. They were out of a few of the wines on their menu, so I ended up ordering a white and it was not good at all. The three stars are for the views only :) because wine and customer service were unfortunately not it. We had a nice picnic at Greenhill Vineyards on a late Sunday afternoon. It's good that you can bring your own food for outdoor seating because the menu is pretty limited. We always love places that have a patio that is dog friendly. I tasted the rose and seyval blanc and liked both. Wines are a little pricey ($36 for the white, $42 for the rose), but decent. I prefer white wine, specifically a dry, stainless steel white, or any white that isn't aged in oak. This is most definitely the spot for me! Dry whites for days. It's much calmer than the winery I'm a member at -- it's easy to find seating as it is plentiful/ reservations (as far as when I've gone) are not necessary. Covid Review: So I had pretty high expectations based on their amazing website and the beautiful grounds so I was surprised by the lackluster wines. The menu provided to us had no descriptions whatsoever so after speaking with the apathetic staff member we chose based on her suggestions. We opted to try one white and one red which are in 4oz bottles but not all of them are available by 4oz and only in 750ml bottles so your options are limited. Bottles of wine range from $32-$65 for white wine and $45-$60 for red wine so pretty pricey. White: Chardonnay (2019) $12 - typical stainless steel Chardonnay that was boring and not cold enough, almost room temperature Red: Mythology (2017) $14 - this was not an easy wine to drink, it was tart and had a rough finish The building where the tasting room is nice and modern and the grounds had firepits and tables. The sunset and mountains in the background were gorgeous but unfortunately I didn't enjoy our wine during our visit so after having those two glasses we left. I visited three wineries while in Middleburg, VA and this was my least favorite of the three. read more

I've been to this vineyard several times over the years and always enjoyed my visit. First off, the grounds are beautiful - lots of greenery, and lots of places to sit, sip and enjoy the views. I've sat out on the lawn with friends and in the tasting room, so we decided to sit on the outdoor balcony this time. It was a very hot and humid day, but we still liked it. We had a wonderful tasting - the wines are really nice. We decided to get a bottle to enjoy on the balcony. They also had a nice food menu, so we ordered caviar and a beautiful charcuterie spread. Everything was delicious! I also really appreciate the staff on the day we went. We had a little encounter with a wasp while outside and I ended up getting stung! I limped inside and they jumped into action, getting me pain cream, ice and making sure I wasn't having an allergic reaction. Loudoun County wineries are known for their scenic landscapes and Greenhill is no different. I started with a tasting, as did my friend. Our guide behind the bar, was Samantha. She walked us through the wines on the menu and a mystery wine that was not listed on the menu. The Blanc de Blanc was the favorite of the tastings. We inquired about membership - which is no fee to join and you just have to purchase 12 bottles within 1 year. They have 1 time pickup, every 6 months, quarterly, or monthly - if you live close enough. The membership gets you two free tastings or two glasses each time you come on-site, 10% off and access to the upstairs lounge. We ordered the Cheese platter and a blanc de blanc, and made our way upstairs. It was very lounge with pockets you could relax in. Being up high, on a patio, or seated down low. I was disappointed when the cheese platter came out. The name made it seem to us, that there would be multiple cheeses for the hefty price of 30+. It was truffle everything - crackers (meh), butter (why), a goat cheese, small amount of meat and the fresh baguette (best part). Dogs are allowed on the premise - but only outside (not even in members lounge). Overall it was a good experience. It wasn't crowded being the middle of the day on a weekday. The tasting experience with Samantha was very pleasant and fun to do. I enjoyed the exclusivity of the upstairs lounge while we sipped and picked at the platter. The service for clean up is super fast as well! We popped into the bathrooms before leaving and our plates and glasses vanished! If you are looking to add a winery to your Loudoun try list, I'd recommend Greenhill. read more

With that said, the location, server knowledge, seating, and reds are excellent quality. I would recommend going with a group and sharing a few small bottles. I'm shocked to recently have read some of these poor reviews due to their policy of 10 people or more visiting. It's not difficult to research the winery you are going to, especially if you have a large group. It's no different than making a reservation at a restaurant! This place has the right to put any rules in place that it wants and shouldn't be blasted for rules that are clear on their website. Wine is a bit pricey but it's because they allow it to age longer than most. We love their reds here because they have so much depth to them. We personally like that it's adult only but that's just our preference. Great views, friendly staff, great charcuterie. Also - we really need to stop throwing a tantrum and using the "I have over 100k followers" - no one cares. read more

My review starts with what I love about this place and my thoughts on some people who have posted negative reviews. Greenhill is situated just outside of Middleburg. If you haven't been to this area of Virginia, you are missing out. The land has a lot of history, culture, and architecture, making it beautiful. Greenhill is a part of that. The winery is just off Route 50, and a short drive through some vines brings you to their facilities. The main building is a gorgeous farmhouse converted for a great wine-tasting experience. The main floor is for all guests, while the upper and lower levels are for various club members. I think the best seat in the house is on the veranda overlooking fields, vines, and hillside views. Greenhill has space heaters to remove the chill, even on colder days. For those who prefer to be out further, there are tons of Adirondack chairs and picnic tables to gather with friends or enjoy wine peacefully. Oh, and you can also have your own fire pit in the cooler months. The wine at Greenhill is terrific and has been for many years because the owner brought in three excellent new employees (Winemaker, GM, and Assistant GM) to help elevate its game, and the investment has paid off. The quality of the wine has grown leaps and bounds and has become some of my favorites in the area. On top of that, the winemaker works with the owner and management to try new things, including varietals, new winemaking processes, and more. I hope they add a concrete egg to their winemaking equipment, as I love when wineries do so, as it adds an interesting complexity to the flavors. The experience we have when visiting is second to none. All the people working behind the bar or serving drinks/food are super friendly and welcoming. The management and leadership are top-notch. I like several wineries in the area from a flavor perspective. Still, Greenhill is only one of a couple I love going to because I can relax and enjoy myself because wine is also about your experience while drinking it. Oh, it's also fun when there's something not on the tasting menu that the pourer or management bring out simply because they are excited about it and want to share it. Lastly, we have a small well-behaved dog. Greenhill permits them outside. We don't always bring him, but sometimes it's nice, and we appreciate Greenhill for making them feel welcome. Every time we bring the guy, one of the staff always comes out with a bowl of water and a greeting. That brings me to my issue with some of the reviews here. For the most part, the negative reviews include people not permitted to bring their children and large groups not happy because they just showed up. Please research wineries before showing up, as many in Virginia do not allow kids. I have a school-aged son, but I never take him to wineries. This excursion wouldn't be what I considered quality family time. It's more like dragging a kid to a place they wouldn't enjoy so I can have some drinks. Most wineries post on their website that reservations are required for large groups so that they can adequately prepare for your visit and make sure you have a good time. When it comes to large parties, this is a policy with even the largest wineries in the area. They are not built to handle a large group just showing up and expecting a tasting/service on-demand. Yes, they may charge you something extra (I'm not sure if Greenhill does), but once again, your group will require additional people and time to handle on top of all the other paying customers. For me, this is about respect. Lastly, several negative posts are from people we have all seen going to wineries. Groups that are out to get drunk and party. Bachelor and Bachelorette parties, 21st birthdays, and more. Bars are a perfect place to do this. A quiet winery in the country is not, so please don't get upset that the staff isn't there to cater to your needs. Please respect those who come there to enjoy, learn, and experience good wine with good people in a peaceful and beautiful setting. read more

Trey was very kind and helpful to get us wine. They are unfortunately not doing their tastings, which are amazing since they come to the table (and for wine club members, two are included with the membership with each visit). However, they have these super cute 4 ounce bottles that they use for a glass of wine (and 2 were given to our wine club member!) The tables are first come, first served. They have plenty of new, socially distanced outdoor tables (see pic) and a few inside tables. The upstairs is reserved for the Wine Club Members only. The staff all wore masks. read more

I came here for some wine tasting on a Saturday while in the area, and overall, I thought it was fine. The space is beautiful, which drew me in, but didn't find a wine that I had to have again. Greenhill Winery & Vineyards is located in Middleburg, where many other wineries in the northern Virginia area are. Unfamiliar with Virginia wines, I visited Greenhill, as I heard they specialize in wines made with Virginia grapes. When in Virginia. On a Saturday there were already a few parties inside for the tasting. When I walked in the employee let me know that she would help me when she could, as she was busy helping the other parties. I've never had that experience before, as other tasting rooms I've visited before will invite you to the tasting along with everyone else. I did the tasting, and out of all the wines I had, I would say the Philosophy, which was the most full-bodied red was the best one to try. Yet compared to Washington and California reds, it misses its mark. As for the other wines, they were on the more fruity and sweet side, so if you like those kinds of wines, then Greenhill will be your jam. Best part of Greenhill is the beautiful space, with acres on acres of greenery. I didn't have this winery on my list but stopped anyhow. When we arrived they asked if we had reservations in which we didn't. Due to we didn't want to plan down to the t but every hour and minute of where we were going to be. I'm kind of turned off on when you need reservations to taste wine. COVID period when masks were REQUIRED and people had to be spread apart, I understood it, but still. Anyhow the process was quite confusing. We got a table, but if we wanted to try wine then you could go inside or outside. The hostess took us to our table. But we wanted to sample wine no matter what. We never even sat at our table. It's there in case you are going to sit down and have a glass of wine, or order food etc; We sampled everything on the list. It's $20 per person to sample 5 wines. We basically paid $4 per tasting, that's hands down expensive. Almost reminds me of when we went to Napa Valley in 2015. We tried a 6th wine at no cost and it was very good. The only sweeter wines they had. The amazing thing about the wines that we tried, they were all VERY good. I liked every single one and that doesn't happen often. My favorite was the oaked Chardonnay. If you know me, I don't like that buttery taste but this was different. It was $54 per bottle. A bit steep for my price level. We did get a bottle of the sweeter wine, even though it was an off-dry white wine. read more

No common sense policies and the unwelcoming screening guard post at the parking lot doesn't make any sense. Might as well add airport level screening security there. We then did a guided tasting at the tasting tent. The staff was very pleasant. We settled on a bottle of Blanc de Blancs sparkling Chardonnay and enjoyed at our table. Greenhill Winery & Vineyards is really gorgeous. It was so nice to get out of D.C. and get re-energized and refreshed by the greenery out here. The delicious wines also helped, no doubt. Speaking of the wine, I found that Greenhill Winery is the first winery I go to in Virginia where I can say that I have truly enjoyed more than just one of the wines available. My favorite white was the Blanc De Blancs (sparkling wine) and favorite red was Ontology. My SO and I did a wine tasting, and the person guiding us through it was very knowledgeable about the history of the winery, the grapes used, and the wines. We were given adequate time in between each pour to really enjoy the tasting. For a snack, we ordered a burrata platter, which was delicious but kind of pricey for what we got. There's some outdoor seating where you can sit down and enjoy the view with a bottle of Greenhill wine. You can bring outside food to have while sitting outside, but you can't bring it inside the winery. There are also places/spaces at the winery that are only available to members of the Greenhill wine club. Looking forward to coming back to Greenhill Winery and enjoying both the view and the wines! read more

What do you do when you take a mental health day off? You drive to a winery and end up at two fabulous wineries . My second stop was less than 5 mins away. My first ime and I was attracted Greenhill Winery & Vineyards cause they only open to adults 21 years old and older. I called first as the website mentioned reservations only but none are needed on weekdays. This time I made sure to remember and ask the name of the employee that was so helpful . Perry (hope I am spelling it right) , was just helpful, and a positive energy. Oh masks are required inside while u order and use the restrooms. The view is beautiful and relaxing. I sat there and stared for two hours, lol.. I tried the Superstition and the Carbenet Franc. My favorite was Superstition so I bought a bottle to go. Man oh man, I've been coming here for over a year now and didn't update my review. Greenhill, my deepest apologies. Needless to say, my family and I kept coming back here enough to become members. Now we have a reason to come every 2 months just to pick up our wine. With member perks, we have gotten to experience a lot more of this property. In 2017 they also opened the big farm house portion of the winery where there is a ton of patio seating, lower floor seating for everyone, and a top floor area for members only. I recommend getting the baked brie app! An added bonus is if you are a member and you keep driving down the road, you have access to a secluded old home that's member only as well. It sits right over a lake and there are absolute stunning views. No manure smells anymore and the property is amazing all year round. The reds here have definitely grown on us and we exclusively drink those. This place is amazing and definitely one of our favorite to visit. read more

I hadn't heard of this winery before but mind you I don't often get out to this side of Loudoun County for wines but every blue moon. Overall a very nice establishment they have a new tasting room (I think its about a year old. The sitting areas were well appointed and comfortable and they do have longer tables for larger groups. They did mention they prefer to do seated wine tastings unless its super busy. They also have food available for purchase, if you're tasting indoors they don't allow outside food just FYI. One of our friends who was with us was a member so they have a section upstairs for members which was just as nice as downstairs but of course a bit smaller and more intimate. The staff was very friendly attentive but we didn't feel rushed either which was nice. The wine was pretty good I really liked their sparkling wine it was on the drier side which was up my alley. The other wines from the tasting were just ok to me, they weren't bad but my palate didn't love them either. They have a large outdoor space with additional seating which would be great to come back when the weather is a bit warmer. Overall a very nice winery, so much so another friend became a member which they do have some pretty decent perks for members if you do really like their wines across their line. read more
