My mom and I decided to stop in here after spending the morning apple picking in the area. We researched wineries in the area that were dog friendly and offered more to eat than just charcuterie items because we were pretty hungry and decided to make it our lunch. This was one of the few in the area that offered other menu items such as sandwiches, baked brie, hummus, brunch items, etc. I had my dog with me so this place is perfect because they are super dog friendly! My dog was even allowed to go inside the tasting room with me! When we first walked in we were greeted by two very lovely ladies (and a cat!). They were both super kind and friendly and made sure we felt welcome with my dog inside too. My mom and I didn't plan on staying long as this was our last stop of the day and we were pretty far out from my home so we skipped a tasting and ordered a glass of their spiced cider sangria, which we both loved! Then we ordered the baked brie, which was served with apple butter and crackers, as well as the caprese sandwich. Both were delicious! We sat outside on the deck where it was quiet and peaceful. Views were nice. If I am ever out in the area I'd go back!

1 week after Blizzard 2016 on Saturday, January 30, 2016

Starting a series of old places I went to by month. I determined the last year of each month where I didn't have a review written of a place I've been. For January, I had to go back to 2016. It was January 2016 when I went to Naked Mountain Winery. It was with a 20-50's Wine Lovers Meetup group, which no longer exists, on Saturday, January 30, 2016, for wine & lasagna deal they were doing to get more Winter business. I lived in Arlington at this time, but I was willing to make the long trek out to Markham, VA about 56 miles away. There was a woman who I lived in Rosslyn, Arlington, who asked for a ride. I was just shy of 32, and she had recently graduated from college so low 20's. She was kind of flirty and decent conversation driving out there and back with her, but she mentioned that she had a boyfriend. Of course, it was story of my life at that point in my life! As for the experience, it's a little bit of a drive once getting off 66 and go up this narrow dirt driveway up the hill to get there. It's nice view of the hills in the snow as the great Blizzard 2016 happened exactly 1 week earlier. The lasagna was outstanding as was the wine pairings in this cabin setting with plenty of seats for dining in. The price was very good at that time, I think like $20 for both the lasagna & wine, which got people in the door. I'm sure 9+ years later if they still offer the lasagna/wine, it'd be more expensive I'm sure. I remembered it was so good, I went with a friend 3 weeks later to take advantage of the deal and great lasagna/wine again!

It's a little out of the way but set in a beautiful place and worth the trip. We decided to go because it was described as dog friendly and we thought we could take our dog on the deck. We were actually able to take him inside to sleep under the table as we ate. They even put up the winery cat while we were there. The staff were very friendly and helpful and seemed to enjoy being there. The food was also very good. We had the "Happy Camper" sandwich, a charcuterie board, and baked brie. All were pretty good. The place is a bit pricey but not ridiculous. We would certainly visit again.

Really enjoyed the whites. Not the reds as much. Nice ambience and good service. Nice place to visit on a Saturday afternoon.

I am checking in from my review years ago to say that I still love the wines at Naked and between me and my spouse have been wine club members for a few years! They really do the best reds in the area.

Stopped by here to enjoy a quick bite and flight. This is way off the beaten path but a cute little spot to stop by on the way back to DC. Had the mixed flight and it was decent. I had a glass of the sweetest white but can't remember the name. I also enjoyed a Turkey sandwich :) Checked in on Yelp and got 15% off my total check. Alex - the manager made sure I received it :)

    Albarino!!! My favorite grape.

We three (husband, dog, and me) had a lovely saturday afternoon outing to Naked Mountain. My husband was a bit more negative than me. He didn't love the live musician, he thought the outdoor patio needed more shade, and he thought our wine tasted more like a Chardonnay than an albarino. I loved that dogs are allowed in the tasting room, the fact that there was live music at all, and I enjoyed the albarino, though I thought it mellowed (im a good way) after it had been open for a bit. I also tried a rose but thought it was a little too sweet (strawberry notes were quite strong!) I also tasted the seyval blanc but thought it was a bit bland. So I would come back but it might be a challenge to convince my husband, unless it was a super cold/hot day when we need to be inside.

    Beautiful and serene spot!!

A beautiful cozy and serene place. my sister had her 15th year anniversary party here and it was amazing. The staff was so sweet and professional and the food was delicious. They serve food like cheese, crackers, grapes sandwiches Panini's and the best part of everything was the wine. I mostly drank the sangria, but I did end up taking a few bottles home. Wonderful experience and my sister has a membership so if you're close to this area, it's definitely something to look into !!!

CHECK-IN ON YELP for 15% off. WINE: Self-Guided Flight was $10 for 7 samples. Favorites: 2019 Chardonnay/Riesling $28 was an amazing combination which was crisp with a sweet finish. Soar V Non-vintage 'solera' style port $38 tasted like bourbon soaked cherries. It reminded me of the Luxardo brandied cherries you use in an Old Fashioned. Worst wine: 2019 Unoaked Chardonnay tasted like straight vinegar I winced and then spit. FOOD: I would not recommend ordering any of the food items and would bring your own food instead. Focaccia $8 which came out cold and was a very small loaf. I asked for it to be toasted and it was microwaved but that was better than cold focaccia. Aged White Cheddar (3oz) $6.50 was sharp with a crumbly salty texture, pretty solid. Salami (2 oz) $6 was sliced, spicy cured meat, just ok. Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar (2oz) was a large portion in containers, we ended up taking it with us so we wouldn't waste any. "Base Weight" Panini $12 Black forest ham, salami, prosciutto, provolone, and mayo *very thin small sandwich which was pressed regular bread on a panini press, extremely poor value for $12. AMBIANCE: There was live music on the deck but it was very loud and most of the tables were occupied or reserved so we opted to sit inside which had a log cabin feel. The vineyard itself was not very pretty or appealing but I did enjoy the bottle of port that we purchased. I would come back if I was in the area and was in a port wine mood.

Good wine and atmosphere We had the cheese plate and the red and white flight Cheers !

Wines somewhat acidic. Staff not incredibly friendly, but we did arrive towards the end of a Sunday. We each ( 3 of us) ordered the $10 mixed flight. No other choices available. The grounds were very beautiful, with tables spaced out (in consideration of covid) well and picnic chairs, 2 at a time, going up the hill. Bathrooms were not clean and had no toilet paper. Again it was towards the end of a Sunday. All in all, the three stars here are for the grounds alone.

Lovely place to spend a lazy weekend afternoon. The outdoor seating area is dog friendly and the two bottles of white we ordered were delicious!

Drink Naked? Don't mind if we do!!! My girls and I decided to hit Naked Mountain on a sweltering hot summer day and needless to say we were not disappointed. From the moment we walked up until the very second we left everyone was present, helpful and very friendly!! The wonderful young lady who did our tasting was delightful!! She took her time and explained each wine in detail as we made our way through the list wines. The standout in the bunch was the Chardonnay Riesling and Skinny Dipper which I was pleasantly surprised as over the years my palette leans towards reds over whites, but these two are winners hands down!! Raptor Red caught my attention and gave me the feels out of the reds we tasted. One thing to note, they rinse of the glass as you transition from whites to reds was actually a dollop of Skinny Dipper which is not only genius but gives you that unassuming reminder as to why it is one to consider. Not to mention, the tasting pours are generous as well. We decided on a bottle of the Chardonnay Riesling which paired well with the picnic basket my girlfriend packed for us to devour. Yes, Naked Mountain lets you bring in outside food (insert a round of applause) which is a huge plus in my opinion. It is also an invitation to stay and "sip" a little longer too. They also have some light bites for purchase as well but with BYOB (Bring Your Own Basket) you are not restricted to only what they have to offer. Plenty of indoor, air conditioned seating as well as outdoor seating and generous grass space so on a not so hot day that is waiting for you to pull out your blanket and submerge yourself in the ambiance and amazing views surrounding you. The interior is decorated with all the winery feels so you cannot help but sip and be merry!! A rustic fireplace, a wine bottle chandelier as well as a wall decorated with all their awards and medals. I noticed there is a restroom outside as well as the one right near the from entrance. While outside on the deck, if you position yourself just right on the deck, you can still get that gram worthy picture with the lovely vineyard in the backdrop. If you are looking for a winery to chill the day away at, a visit to Naked Mountain Winery is a must!!

The review does not reflect the fact I did not get to try their wine, but rather the way I was treated when I attempted to plan a trip to visit the "right" way** We were driving past this spot on a nice Sunday, coming home from a family lunch, and thought why not stop in? I did not have a reservation because (as mentioned above) I wasn't aware of needing one and I wasnt sure when I would be able to stop in as I was just passing by (we live 1+ hour away). As we pulled into the long dirt road, the front gates have no clear sign that says 'By Appointment Only' - perhaps a good add before your clients drive up a steep unpaved road to just be turned away. None of the vines appeared to be in use so the drive up may be more beautiful one day when the grapes are on the vines. The parking lot is a bit cramped and full of fancy cars, giving us a taste of the type of clientele that would be inside. We came in and I inquired if I could do a wine tasting. The staff member told us we needed a reservation but that he would do his best to try to see if they had space - totally fine. My mistake again- I did not realize that this winery required reservations (no other winery I have been to in Charlottesville, Middleburg, or NOVA has done so) so my first assumption wasn't that I needed a reservation. Again, no sign at the front that says this and would have saved me time. The space was obviously gorgeous, the views spectacular and it felt very Napa and upscale. The staff member returned back and told us they couldn't accommodate us- ok, disappointing but ultimately is what it is. I asked the two staff members standing there how early they recommend making reservations, as we dont live in the area so I need to plan ahead. They told me it was hard to tell but that basically any time it's warm, it will be hard to get a reservation and that "Saturday visits are a pipe dream" and Sundays are "pretty impossible too". They then kindly told me "you could try to snag a reservation maybe a Thursday or Friday". Mind you, their hours are 12-5 on Thursday/Friday...I live an hour plus away, let alone with traffic. I guess my only options are to take off work to come visit as it seems there will be no chance for me to ever get a reservation for 2 on the weekends.... Needless to say, it felt like the staff really could care less for our future business and we politely left. The staff did not offer to help us book a future reservation or anything of that nature - just a snooty response that I probably shouldn't bother every attempting to return on a weekend. Hilarious enough, I decided to look up their website and low and behold - they had tasting reservations that same day at 3 PM (45 minutes after we first asked about a tasting) - no offer to us to wait or come back to return, just basically turned away. Cherry on top- they have tons of reservations open for future Saturdays and Sunday. If you don't want my business, you dont have to tell me twice. If I want to deal with pretentious folks, I'll fly to Napa and drink wine actually grown onsite.

In June 2024, RDV was acquired by Eutopia Estates which is owned by the Bouygues family of France. For now they are Bordeaux-style blends focused on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. They have some white grape vines but they are not ready to produce wine yet. They tasting experience/tour lasts about 1.5 hours. You tour the front of the vineyard, the barrel cave and bottling facilities. Then you taste their three top red blends paired with ham, cheese, peanuts and biscuits. All the food comes from Virginia farms and producers. Both the wine and the food are excellent. As was the service for the tour. Details on the wines here https://lostmountainvineyards.com/wines/. Tour reservations via Tock. The one major downside is the price point. Over $300 for the tour and tasting for my wife and I. We recently visited Daou in Paso Robles and had more food and wine at a lower price. Also the price points on the wine are not tied to market norms. The Lost Mountain is $225 per bottle and the Rendezvous $110. This is considerably more than some of the best Virginia wines. For example, Linden's 2021 Hardscrabble Red is $68, The Barboursville Octagon 2021 is $75 and Glen Manor's 2022 Hodder Hill is $65. And at Total Wine one can purchase dozens of Bordeaux wines with 95 and up ratings for less than $100. We had a great time and enjoyed some high quality food and wines. The property and underground caves were stunning, the staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and the overall atmosphere was very relaxed. We paid for a small group tour, but no one else signed up for our time slot, so we ended up having a totally private experience, which was a nice surprise. The oyster pop-up bar had a line wrapping around the patio like people were waiting for Taylor Swift concert tickets instead of shellfish. There are small campfire setups around the outside area. But in 69°F full sun with a gentle breeze, you'd think no one would use them. Wrong. The whole side patio and hill area turned into a smoky campsite, with diners getting smoked out and leaving. On top of that, we had to fend off a rotating cast of unattended children. Kids wandered around like they were in an unsupervised theme park. One repeatedly tried sticking their hands in our dog's face while she was calmly chewing on a bone outside like a civilized creature. We ended up disciplining other people's children just so our dog could exist without being harassed. Food (4/5): We ordered the Nduja Sausage and Ricotta Pizza ($26), a red sangria pitcher ($40), a red sangria glass ($12), and the s'mores cookie tray ($10 for 3 cookies). The pizza was delicious, but the crust was so thin and flimsy it needed structural reinforcement. I used part of the previous slice to smear the ricotta around to get a balanced bite each time. The sangria was great, but $40 for 4 1/3 full glasses of wine felt disappointing. It's sangria, not liquid gold. The cookies were good, but for $10, 3 cookies should at least come with hot cocoa. Service (4/5): The lines were out the door. That is not the staff's fault. This place is popular, and the food is great. While I waited the 15 minute line to order, I reviewed the menu, dodged tiny children, and stepped away from random dogs on leashes inside the establishment trying to jump on me. It felt like a low-stakes obstacle course. When I got to the counter, I placed my order quickly. The bartender whipped the screen around with such precision and stared me down during the tip prompt like I was making a morally questionable decision. I pressed "No Tip" (listen. I stood in a line, picked up my own order, and bussed my own table) and his face shifted from "happy to help you" to "you have personally wronged me and my ancestors" in seconds. After tapping through 5+ different prompts, he told me to set a timer on my phone for 10 to 15 minutes and go to a different building to pick up my pizza. Finding this second building required me to use my nose like a bloodhound, following the faint scent of pizza through crowds until I finally tracked it down.

Nomad has quickly become our absolute favorite spot to go to. The staff is so nice and amazing,…read moredrinks are perfection, and the food is really good. We enjoy the ambience. It has a really cool bourbon old-school style bar feel. Very cozy and inviting. Highly recommend getting either the chili or the pizza if you're there for a a little nosh. During the summer, it's really fun to use the fire pit and do s'mores. If you're just driving through Middleburg or local, I can't recommend this place enough l!

I will say maybe they had so many staff members because they were doing training as different people came by our small table each time to ask questions and deliver the two items. But because with the influx of people, it seemed like there were like 10 people all just hanging around the bar waiting for customers and just very talkative. The bathroom here is very clean and nice to use the facilities. I am not a beer drinker, and the Baltimore beer I was splitting with my husband, was different... rimming it with old bay (yuk!). My husband said it was refreshing with a unique taste but wasn't for him or for me. We were not offered to switch it out so he suffered through. The mac and cheese was the same way, different, and not for everybody. Our little didn't like it and she is a mac and cheese connoisseur. We ended up leaving over half the dish there (again no one checked on us to see if we were satisfied with it). We flagged down someone to pay the check, so we could get back on the road. I think the prices were outrageous for what you get. I understand if the quality was greater or the experience was greater but the portions and what you got were, in my opinion, don't aligned. I just feel like the experience could've been better for a Middleburg restaurant or beer hall.
