The staff here are really great! There's always a good energy & atmosphere here. People like their chicken in different ways. This spot might be your all-time favorite or it might not be. You can definitely tell they have a solid group of regulars who enjoy this spot. What I like about the chicken here is the freshness. It's always nice & hot and they cook their food fresh. Although the sides weren't my favorite, it wasn't a quality issue- just my personal preference. You're a chicken lover, it's a spot I would check out to see if you like the way they do their chicken. So I'm giving this one star but not because of the food but because of the male chef that was working today on Saturday June 6th 2020 at 6:30 pm. Not only was he super rude and made me and my boyfriend uncomfortable but he was saying terrible disgusting things to the man working the front desk. I get that sometimes people can act out of character under stress but the things he was saying to this poor man were truly disrespectful and shameful. In times like we're living in today we should be uplifting each other not tearing them down. I think the chef should be held accountable for the things he was saying, I don't think that my family or I will be giving our money to a restaurant with a chef that treats people with disrespect. read more

While their chicken is good, the number of sauces given with chicken remains an issue for me.

We live in an age where the transparency between consumers and businesses has never been clearer - allow me to be shed some transparency on this place: The female cashier took my order with a very condescending attitude. It's in my character to ALWAYS speak clearly, enunciate, make eye contact, and say "please" and "thank you" when appropriate, so I'm still perplexed on why I received such crappy customer service while placing a simple order of the "family platter". The cashier mumbled a few words which apparently was "would you like a large or medium?" When I said, "pardon me?", she rolled her eyes and mumbled some more. Not even a "thank you" or eye contact during the entire transaction. Rolled her eyes again when I kindly asked for some napkins. Since it's so arduous to put on a smile and greet paying customers in a dignified manner, I'll make sure to take my money elsewhere next time and encourage others to do the same. Oh, and the meal was decent at best. I didn't think it was possible to mess up Peruvian chicken, but the chicken was very salty, as if they brined it way too long. DON'T ORDER DELIVERY The service was terrible via online ordering through Yelp. My food did not arrive until A HOUR AND 45 MIN after I placed it. I called the restaurant to check in, a woman answered and told me she had difficulty hearing me. I hung up and called back- no answer. I called three more times and no one answered. I called Yelp and they let me know my food was to arrive in about ten minutes. I don't know when the delivery came, because it was LEFT OUTSIDE OF MY FRONT DOOR! There was no call or knock at my door, I only knew it came because my boyfriend was leaving our home and saw it. The food itself was subpar. I ordered the full chicken with three sides, and a flan. The fried yuca was so fried and at that point cold, I couldn't eat them because of how hard they were. The salad was wilted and slimy. Rice and beans were okay, they weren't flavorful but wasn't bad to eat either. The flan was mediocre and was not sweet, but more bitter. The saving grace was the chicken was truly amazing and flavorful, but it could not salvage this whole experience. I will not be ordering from here again, and advise that you should not either. read more

Chicken is usually on the dry side and not super flavorful. Plantain sides and the primavera rice sides are just fine.Yuca fries didn't seem fresh, were dry and overcooked. I went out for lunch one day hankering for some limp and dry chicken. But I could only find 'Crisp & Juicy', and thought "oh well, this will have to do." It's right across the street from my office, so it quickly became a lunch staple,...until I discovered Sabroso five blocks up Colesville road. Given their proximity, these two will naturally be compared to eachother, so let's just pit them in the ring mano-a-mano. CRISP & JUICY v. SABROSO TALE OF THE TAPE MEAT: Sabroso is a bit juicier and better seasoned than C&J. C&J isn't bad, by any stretch, just not as flavorful. SKIN: Likewise, Sabroso just has that crispier skin. C&J's is also tasty, but doesn't have that crackle to the skin you want when you bite down. PORTION: Pretty close. I usually get the 1/4 combo at both restaurants, and it really depends on the particular chicken you get. Although, I must say, I've had some pretty monster 1/4 chickens at Sabroso. SIDES: Sabroso in a rout. C&J's fries aren't that great, and I find their Fried Yucca dry though pretty good. Sabroso gives you huge portions for the sides, they are fresher, and they have more and better options. PRICE: Both are affordable lunch options. Sabroso's lunch special is a little better deal for the amount of food you get. ATMOSPHERE: C&J is much more of a take-out place. Sabroso has a larger, more inviting space. Well, this was a mismatch. I've reviewed Sabroso and gave it a hearty 4 stars. But it's not like Crisp & Juicy is a bad place. So it's coming in at a passable 3 stars. The "salad" is always lacking and the yuca fries have never come out fresh & hot (it hurts to say that out loud). Aside from those, all the other sides are either fried or carb-y. Not many veggie or healthy alternatives. Just stopped here for dinner -- Might be one of the best rotisserie chicken I've ever had. Seriously, it was amazing. I ordered a whole chicken for 11.75 (not to eat all at once, btw. I wanted leftovers!) and it came with 4 super small sauces - two pale yellow, an orange (which tasted almost the same as the yellow - kind of a buttery taste with a slight spice), and a green (tasted like a spicy guacamole). I read previous Yelp reviews before I stopped in, so I knew not to ask for extra sauce - definitely not worth 50 cents for a swallow sized container. I have no idea how the sides taste - all I ordered was the chicken, but they looked pretty good from what I saw. Minus a star for the wait time. I waited 25-30 minutes for carryout. Carryout is supposed to be quick, right? That might be the longest I've ever waited for carryout, but the food made up for it. Overall, good price, great chicken. This chicken is as famous as it gets. Peruvian chicken rosteries are very common and popular in Latin America. No one does it like the Peruvians though. I take offense when people say that El Pollo Rico and other C- charbroiled chicken places are better than Crispy and Juicy. From the taste of the chicken, to the plantains, rice and beans, yuca, fries, salads to the Star of the restaurant; THE YELLOW SAUCE. ..Immitated but never duplicated... Other restaurants claim its the same sauce, (mayo and mustard) but it is obvious that the one at Crispy and Juicy has its own secret spices to it. People even buy the medium and large sizes of the sauce to take home and eat with everything else.. I have three freinds who seem to have a life time supply of them ;) If you say the chicken in a little dry, my friend you seem to have ordered the white meat. White meat is always going to be dry, but dom't fake bc the flavor is still amazing.. Get with it people, red meat is a lot more juicier! You can't give this place less than a 5 star because there is no other chicken place that tops this and for those of you who have never stepped a foot in Latin america, I should be the one to compare not you.. ;P read more

Went here for the first time last week and found it to be pretty good, but not great. My first complaint was that around lunchtime there was absolutely nowhere to sit. The place is small, and it can get busy around noon, so be prepared for this possibility. The yuca fries were amazing and are really the reason this place is getting 3 and not 2 stars. Maybe the best I've ever had. I was a little disappointed by the chicken itself however. It's far from bad, but it was a little saltier than I would prefer. The "salad" is nothing more than a couple of chunks of iceberg lettuce and some onions. I think perhaps my biggest complaint here is the price. It's still relatively cheap (my meal was around $10), but compared to the vastly superior El Pollo Rico up the road in Wheaton (where you can get 1/4 chicken and 2 sides for $6), it was rather expensive. I'd go back here if I was in a rush, since it's close to my apartment, but if I have some extra time, I will drive the extra 10 minutes to El Pollo Rico which gives you much better food for less money. read more

I get chicken from here, as much as I can - usually with G. He enjoys fries - my sides vary from time to time. The fried yuca (extra crispy is amazing) the coleslaw was a bit too watery for my liking. We both agree - this is some of the best chicken this side of town ... and beyond. Walking past the place, the sign said "Crisp & Juicy". I thought that was a description of the food, not the name of the place. It got good reviews that are noted in the window and one plaque from Zagat's inside. It's well deserved. This place is fantastic ! Located in a strip mall across from NOAA and the Silver Spring Metro stop it can be easy to miss...because of that name and it's small storefront that blends in with the rest of the stores. But it's excellent. I got half a chicken with two sides: plantain and fried yucca. While I wasn't feeling like yucca that day, I could note it was good and the plantain alone was worth the trip. The chicken sure was crisp and juicy. Cooked thru and thru with a nice portion size given to me. It was the kind of meal that kept me smiling...and ordering some lime juice from the cooler. Hispanic music played in the background of the small dining area while you could glance the rotisserie chickens roasting in a charcoal-baked oven. I charged my phone and ate and enjoyed it so much...I came back again two days later! This time for a half-chicken with plantains and black beans and rice ('cause they were out of brown beans). I usually carry-out the Familly platter, which is a whole charboiled peruvian style chicken. It comes with two side orders, yuca, fries, rice and beans or salad. If you go like after 6pm will be better because the chicken will be fresh out from the grill and hot. This is a nice option here in the area, if you don't want to cook a week day. The staff is sometimes not very friendly, it has taken them a long time to become friendlier with me, now that I come often they are better. So, I've dined in or carried out C&j several times. Even though the service had been consistently sub par (brown skinned peeps everywhere feel this way), the product was always great. That is until tonight. I was really excited to see an extra piece of chicken breast in my meal, even If I'd ordered dark. The dark meat was really tiny and excessively dry. I couldn't chew it. If the dark meat is dry, you already know the white meat is like rubber. And my yucca has broken out my tongue. I don't eat there enough to piss anyone off; so, please help me understand. Absolutely one of the worst and most humiliating experiences of my life. I will never recommend this place or go there ever again. I ordered my food and received a receipt. After dropping off a shopping bag in my car and returning to the store the employees claimed I had already received my order. After making a show of calling their "boss" to review security camera footage they claimed again I got my food, when I had not. Not only did they accuse me of stealing g but they yelled at me. I am a hard working American who does not need to steal. But the disrespect and brazenness with which they treated me was dumbfounding. I have never experienced anything like this in my 31 years on this earth... The police were unable to help because this is a supposed civil matter and now I'm out of the money I paid and no food. If you're looking for a fast Spanish meal this is the place to go. I enjoy flavor and moisture of the chicken very much along with the plátanos maduros, yucca fries, and rice n beans. Where oh where to begin. Your chicken is so delicious, yet your counter woman is so impatient. Now I'm sure it gets busy in there and you need to move people along at times. I've worked in counter based food service as well and that guy who takes forever to figure it out can almost cause a riot in line at times. But when I'm the only one ordering, smile, take a deep breath and politely wait until I'm ready to order. You have no place to be and you were just laughing with your friends. The chicken makes me come back, though, and I do. I personally think it's one of the better chicken places around this part of town. So I put up with the attitude for take-out but refuse to tip her. I come there for the chicken, not service. So if you can put up with someone who is in desperate need of customer service training, go for it.
