Chicken stew with rice and salad.
    Kwame S.

Pretty standard spot. I stopped by Don Pollo after an intense workout at a nearby gym, and I was very impressed with the various chicken items on Don Pollo's menu. For my first visit, I went with a standard chicken stew. The stew was very delicious. OMG, the chicken was so juicy, tender, and perfectly seasoned. The price of my stew, which came with rice and a small salad was about $13. I thought the price was fair for the area. I thought the restaurant was well-maintained, and it was pretty clean. Also, the service was pretty on point. Well, the service pretty much involves ordering your food at the counter, and waiting for someone to call your number when the food is ready for pick up. Since there are a lot of Latinos who visit this spot, they may call your number in Spanish. Overall, this was a pretty decent spot, and I have a feeling that I probably will visit again after an intense workout.

1/4 Dark Chicken with 2 Sides

I can't complain anything about their rotisserie chicken, it was nice flavor. The portion and price was ok. Don Pollo of Glenmont, it is located in Glenmont Shopping Center, where is quite old plaza in this area. If you look from outside, you might feel worry the condition of the restaurant but I was surprised a little when I got inside, their dining room is spacious, clean, and comfortable. Also a plenty of free outdoor parking lot is available. Anyway, the reason why I didn't give them 5 stars because this was my first time to try them and I got the wrong item right away! Even worse the one they gave me wrong I don't like it at all. (if something that I can eat, that might be fine) p.s. I ordered 1/4 dark chicken with 2 sides - mac&cheese/plaintain but I got salad instead of mac&cheese. Salad is never my favorite, so I had to trash it. p.s. I ordered for pick up via UbeEat app. After this happened, I let the app. know about my issue and they refunded me for only the wrong item. Not that bad.

1/2 Chicken with 2 Sides (black beans & rice, potato salad)

I ordered a half chicken with two sides. The potato salad and beans were somewhat bland. Neither side had very much flavor. I wasn't very impressed with either of them. However, the chicken is more than outstanding. It was tender and falls off the bone. The flavor explodes into your taste buds. Colonel Sanders of KFC fame uses 11 secret herbs, and spices. I don't think Don Pollo stops short of 25. I recommend eating here. The side dishes are not much to talk about, but the chicken is easily in my top five.

Dark meat, mash potatoes, and yucca fries

Really good above-average chicken joint. Their green sauce isn't as spicy and the chicken for the most part is well seasoned but slightly on the top-much salt side... but sall good cause Jesus is taking the wheel... but that's my minor complaint. Their mash potatoes are excellent and while I normally don't like yucca fries... theirs is pretty good. Unless that was a regular stake fry I ate. Nope... it was a yucca fry. I stand by my previous assessment. Their food is awesome. They're also pretty friendly and the service is very quick.

1/4 chicken stew over rice with green salad.

I visited Don Pollos at this location on the day of their Grand Opening a few years ago. There was a good crowd. I tried several of their dishes and I thought it was just okay. I had a rotisserie chicken dish and sides with dessert. A year later, I had a pulled chicken dish which i thought was okay as well. In both cases the chicken was moist, it was something about the flavor that seemed off. I went today to grab lunch before getting on the road. I noticed two new items, too me anyway, the chicken stew and lightly battered fish with onions and veggies on top. I decided to stick with the chicken. I went with the stewed chicken, rice, and salad for $8.95. You get a quarter chicken with the mean. The stew has a great flavor and nice chunks of carrots and potatoes. The rice was okay. It was just regular rice. I probably would have used a different rice like wild or jazmine. Salad is salad, as long as it is green and fresh, you cant go wrong. The restaurant is nice and clean and they have other dishes on the menu. Because of this trip, I am likely to go back again. Bon Apetit.

Compact location. Service was quick and efficient. Maybe it was a fluke but stay away from the super salty cucumber salad! On the plus side, chicken and arroz chaufa wasn't overly greasy like I'm used at the Rockville location.

Left in the warmer a bit too long for consumption, yet still sold it.

After negotiations, we ended up with the following: Goat cheese stuffed fig appetizer White lasagna w/ shrimp and crab (one of the specials) w/ roasted veggies. Italian style paella For drinks, my husband got the blueberry margarita and I followed instructions to "ask about our creative mocktails", and ended up with a superlative strawberry no-jito. (It was REALLY good. I want another one. Now. Hub's drink was also tasty but I liked mine better.) Of all the dishes, my favorite was the Italian style paella. Tons of perfectly cooked seafood in a delicious broth with angel hair. Liht and delicious. The white lasagna was also delish but the dominant flavor was the mozzarella; the seafood didn't come through as much with this one. But I absolutely loved the roasted vegetables it came with. Sometimes the simple dishes are the best. The figs were quite tasty, it's hard to go wrong with goat cheese. I think I get dates and figs confused because they weren't quite what I expected but I enjoyed them. The service was friendly and pretty fast. There are still a bunch of dishes there I want to try so I will try to get back on another date night before too long and order something different. Small negatives - it was a tad warm in the restaurant but given that it was HOT A.F. outside, I will cut them slack on that. Also, I wouldn't have minded a small amount of bread with the meal, maybe you have to order it and I just didn't notice? I'm used to a little bit of bread with Italian food so it didn't occur to me to do so but I would have loved to sop up some of the delicious broth from the paella with it.

While the service was friendly, the timing of the food was slower than expected. Our CT's Famous Grilled Caesar Salad arrived about 20 minutes after ordering, and our Crispy Thin White Pizza didn't arrive until about 45 minutes after we placed our order. I was also disappointed to learn that the Tri Color Cheese Tortellini had been removed from the menu, as it had always been one of my favorite dishes here. The CT's Famous Grilled Caesar Salad is still a solid starter. We also enjoyed the Crispy Thin White Pizza, and I liked that it was presented flat rather than stacked, unlike the version at Amalfi Ristorante. That presentation allowed the toppings and crust to shine, while still offering its own distinct flavor. I'd also love to see the Tortoni dessert make a return, even if it's only offered as an occasional special. It was a memorable way to end a meal and would be a nice nostalgic addition to the menu. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but between the longer wait despite mentioning our schedule and the removal of a couple of favorite menu items, this visit didn't quite match the experiences I've had here in the past.

A for decor. F for food and service tho and the bathrooms were also not up to the quality of the rest of the restaurant especially since they charge above market prices for many of their menu items. The hostess was sweet and gave us a great corner table. The waiter came over fairly quickly and read us the specials and quickly walked back behind the bar to continue his personal convo and we never saw him again. Nor did he bother to look over at us to see if we were ready to order. I finally cause the attention of another team member so he took our order. Similar non personality the waiter had - not rude just no personality in any way (unlike the hostess who was very personable). My Pork Chop was $36 - way overpriced and tiny/very thin/low quality meat/very overcooked and tough to cut with the serrated knife they provided. The rice was good but the sauce was awful and it came with seemingly store bought chips. The dish's components didn't work and it just didn't make sense. For a great Pork Chop go to Sixty Vines in Crown and Grillmarx in Olney - you're welcome! My Mom's Margherita Pizza was bland and almost tasteless. Nice very thin crust but for $17 I expected at least some flavor. The bathrooms were very dingy/dirty/cheaply renovated and the radiator on the floor had a lot of rust - a coat of paint would easily hide that. The interior and the patio have a slightly upscale classy vibe but the bathrooms were very off-putting. Would not go back nor would I recommend.
