I really really really liked the decor. Open windows into kitchen, rolling pin chandeliers, old pictures on the wall, just clean and crisp everywhere you look. The prices were very affordable, some of the gourmet produce charge more for their breads, and yes they did have ingredients listed so you could see which were vegan without having to ask. We got some coffees and my stepdaughters iced vanilla soy latte was the best I've ever had anywhere. It was euphoric, I had to give it right back or I would have demolished it. The cashiers were kind of rude, but maybe they got off a morning rush or something, so I wouldn't hold it against them. I'll definitely be back. read more

First & Last Visit! Ordered two bakery items. Apparently, they have some bizarre policy that certain pasteries can't go in the bag together (if one is in a plastic container, and the other isn't). To be clear, I found out later they had put one item (in a plastic container) inside a bag, while the other item was simply left on the counter. So, I paid the cashier, then took the bag and left...assuming that both items were in the bag. Then, drove clear across town and noticed that one of the items was missing. I called Bread and was told I could return to get the pastry that had been left on the counter, which meant I'd have to leave (immediately) from my current location to make it there before closing time. I said it wasn't convenient and requested that they do a chargeback to refund my money for the item. The person identifying herself as the Manager claimed that she's new and would contact someone to find out how to do a chargeback and would contact me shortly. I called back awhile later after not hearing from her and was told she wasn't there. The male employee who had answered the phone stated that he'd do the chargeback immediately. I was put on hold for several minutes, and the call eventually disconnected. This happened 3 times after I continued to call back and was put on hold by the same person (who was allegedly working on the chargeback issue). My money was never refunded. I know we're just talking about a few dollars, but it's the principle of the matter. The way they handled this was simply inexcusable. read more

Love this place. It is a weekly stop for bread. I've tried many of their breads and found them all to be excellent. I also enjoy many of their pastries, with the cinnamon roll and chocolate croissant two of my favs. The people here are also helpful in guiding your purchase if you are not sure what type of bread to try. My first impression was not very pleasant when I walk into a bakery I expect to have the aroma of fresh baked bread and something was very off there I couldn't put my finger on it. When I ordered I was surprised that they didn't take their food from the showcase they already have stuff prepackaged I did not understand that for being a bakery they usually cut the bread fresh for you? I had asked for a thick cut Ryebread because it was making Patty melts it was sliced very thin and not really what I wanted it but the surprising part was it was already sliced and it wasn't the loaf that I want it she just gave me something off the shelf they already had prepackaged. I also ordered some dinner rolls again just very disappointed they were hard as a rock I thought they would be OK if I warmed it up in the oven but no. Extremely disappointment I was just expecting a lot more!!! It all comes back to when I entered the bakery it just didn't have that Homie good smell feeling of fresh baked bread!!!! read more

Crispellis baguette and épi breads have long been be our favorites! So disappointed that the breads are now wrapped in plastic....those from bakery had softened by the time we got home and at Meijer Corners market, the épi breads were sagging in their display basket. Crispellis bread has lost its "crisp"! Please go back to paper! read more

I was excited to try out Bread by Crispelli. I mean who doesn't love bread? I love me some carbs! #sorrynotsorry The place looks beautiful from the outside. They did a great job with design. Walking in the door it smells wonderful. The shop is set up that you can see things being baked/cooked throughout the day. I picked up a cinnamon roll, croissant and a cannoli (because I can never turn down a cannoli). So, while I think its awesome that the cannoli is ricotta filled and filled upon ordering, something majorly turned me off. When I ordered the cannoli the girl behind the counter grabbed a big ol' box of pre made bulk cannoli shells. Like something you could buy from Gordon Food Services. Major turn off. I thought everything was made in house? And if its not...maybe try to hide that everything isn't made in house by taking the shells out of the box ahead of time? My cinnamon roll and croissant were just fine. My 7 year old devoured most of the cinnamon roll. Honestly - nothing really wowed me and the whole cannoli thing left a bad taste in my mouth. Stopped in around brunch time on a weekend, and it was busy, but not packed. Plenty of seats available inside and out. We ordered sweet pastries, coffee, and a cookie. All were delicious and buttery! The bread is excellent, the muffins and cookies delicious. The people who work there are very nice and helpful. The service is horrible. I had to wait in line to get one loaf of bread and because they only have 1 register I had to wait a half 25 minutes in line. In this day and age you could have some one help with an iphone check out. That is why the lines go out the door. Their service needs to step up. read more

My sister loves this place and wanted their bread at her wedding. I called and placed an order with them on Sunday and came and picked it up on Thursday morning. They had everything ready to go when I got there and when I asked for an almond croissant for the drive up they threw it in for free! A gem. I've made this place my go to. If your looking for lunch this is not your place. But if your looking for gourmet pastries and coffee with a loaf of EPI (the bread that looks like a vine of rolls cut from a baguette) then look no further. This is the bakery I've been looking for my whole life. The staff is always smiling, the baked goods are delicious, and the coffee is the best you've ever tasted. (And refills are free!) Bread's bright and low-key environment make it the perfect spot for all my coffeeshop needs. The little cafe tables are just right for coffee dates, and the big tables make an excellent coworking space. Half the time, I grab a loaf of challah for dinner, too. I am giving Crispelli's 4 stars based on my overall positive impression of the place but acknowledge that I have only tried 1 item thus far. I ran in mid afternoon to grab something sweet (before I join the gym next week and cut back on my dessert intake-wish me luck). The selection was pretty limited by that time but I settled on a piece of their lemon pound cake (which I had been eyeing at my local Westborn market at a price of $16 for only half of the bundt cake-yowza better be amazing!!). Slice was about $4 which seemed right. I enjoyed it but just wish the glaze had a brighter more tart lemon flavor. Crispelli's bills their offerings as "affordable gourmet" and overall prices seem good especially for Royal Oak. Looking forward to trying their rustic breads which look amazing on display as you first enter. The shop is bright and airy with glass windows providing an open view of the bakers practicing their craft. I plan to return soon to meet a friend for breakfast and will update my review. read more

Our experience last week: we wanted some day-old challah bread for a bread pudding to be made on last Saturday. My wife called Bread on Wednesday last week explaining that we couldn't get there during business hours during the week. She asked if they could set aside 2 loaves on Friday for pickup on Saturday morning. The friendly, helpful person on the phone told her no problem and got my wife's name. You know what's coming next, given the rating. We go to Bread on Saturday morning. The woman there said they don't sell day old bread; and my wife explained to her the agreed-deal detailed above. She said No They Don't Do That. She wouldn't even check to see if loaves were set aside. Had the phone lady said this, I wouldn't have written this review. But she was customer-oriented and led us to believe Bread would come through - making other arrangements with Star Bakery or some other place unnecessary. Of course, the hyper-shabby treatment by the woman on Saturday was unexpected and unacceptable. read more

One of our favorite weekend breakfast spots! Hot coffee and all things bread, how can you go wrong. Their pastries are wonderful. Fun for kids to watch things being made. Took one star off because unless it's summer and outside seating is open it's very limited and the counter service is a bit meh... I've always wanted to stop in, and I'm so glad I finally did. Already love it. This place is so charming and simple. Went in to pick up a few cannolis for a friend and ended up leaving with TWELVE cannolis, SIX tarts and TWO baguettes -- and I don't regret any of it. One baguette was gone within two hours of being home because friends and I couldn't stop eating it. Everything was excellent. The staff even more so. Kayla and Leah were super sweet and patient while I took forever to choose stuff. Kayla also talked about how everything was made, how to keep it fresh at home and mentioned how they donate leftovers to local charities, churches, fire stations, etc. Umm...yes. All the bonus points. Long story short, great place. Looking forward to spending some weekend mornings there. read more

I'm giving Bread 3 starts because I absolutely love their bread! Their sourdough options are amazing and they make them with a natural starter (which we're obsessed with). I recommend plain sourdough, the olive loaf, and the rosemary potato loaf. Seriously...this bread will change your life. But, I have to call out the negative...their sanitary practices during COVID season are disappointing. I stop by the bakery bi-weekly to pick up bread for my family and my parent, and I've noticed the bread making staff (some of them, not all...but we're all in this together, right?) with their masks below their nose, touching their masks just before touching the bread again, eating near the product, using their gloves to touch the bread, then take credit cards from customers. They don't seem to care very much about sanitation, even though they make it a point to tell you they're wearing masks (something they didn't start using until months after the pandemic started). I've called the manager previously to make her aware of what I was seeing, and she said she would talk to her staff...but I haven't seen any change. read more

My fiance and I always order a chocolate croissant, banana bran muffin and a cinnamon roll. Love how they taste and it's consistently delicious. Why am I giving it a 3 star? Their customer service. I was fairly disappointed in how they treated a customer before me. She had ordered a smoothie, an iced coffee and a pastry of some sort. When she was told the total, she was shocked because it didn't reflect the prices displayed on the board. As a business, the right thing to do is HONOR what is displayed and make sure the prices displayed is correct after. It is so wrong of you to take advantage of customers like that just because "costs went up". Not cool. So I understood why the lady in front of me was upset, I would have been too. read more

If you are a fan of Crispelli's pizza, then you are a fan of Bread by Crispelli's. This bakery offers a wide arrange of baked goods from sweet pastries to different assortments of bread. The few items that I got were all very good, especially the croissant, which was extremely buttery and flaky (not for those on a diet!). It's not very close to the downtown area of Royal Oak, but I can see myself walking to here from my home and just relaxing in the small cafe area they have. The interior is new and modern and the staff was friendly. I was a bit disappointed that they did not have a wider selection of individual savory baked goods, but I'm just being nick-picky. I will be definitely coming back to try their other selections! read more

Very solid bakery items! You will not be disappointed with the baked good. I think the warm food options leave something to be desired. I know they are a bakery and I should judge on that, but then they should stop making and reheating the quiches and just focus on the pastries. Because it is clear the pastries are top priority and the warm food options are second. The coffee is good - from Great Lakes roasters in Detroit!
