My favorite spot for everything - bread, pastries, cake, and coffee. You have to try their almond croissant!

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place sooner! We love everything from here. We use baguettes to make crostini. I love their sourdough bread. We buy rolls instead of buns so I don't have to get a six pack. The croissants are amazing. I brought them in the day before Thanksgiving and my colleague thought the almond croissant was phenomenal. The sandwiches are great but beware they don't come out until 11am. We have never had anything we were unhappy with there. The fact that it's by my gym makes it dangerous. read more

I am proud to give this bakery 5 stars. I come here on a weekly basis to get bread, and pastries sometimes. The chocolate chip cookies are to die for, in fact, there's a lot in that pastry case that does it; I might as well be a cat with 9 lives... The almond croissants are the best in the region, if not the best I've ever had - save for Tartine in San Francisco. The new pineapple panna cotta is wonderful. The ham and cheese croissant *always* takes me home. Not good for my waistline with all that buttery, fatty goodness - but it's so hard to resist when the moment strikes. There are a few misses, of course. They use an American-style buttercream in their cakes, which while it tastes better than say Betty Crocker buttercream, it could totally be elevated with Swiss/Italian meringue or French buttercream. They really do make the cake and give it that je ne se quoi. The bread is pretty fantastic as well. French, Sesame Semolina are my go-to's now. The Italian bread crust used to have more flavor to it though, more tang or more umami if you will. Now I get the Demi if I want a flavor hit in every bite. They have had to raise their prices but it's not outlandishly so. I wish they did a smaller or half-pan size for some of their selections, as I can't always eat at all that bread by myself before it gets moldy. Lately I've been having the staff bag half of it seperately so I can freeze it, which surprisingly comes out OK. The staff is always pretty pleasant and helpful. Like a lot of bakery-cafes, I wish they put a little more effort into the coffee side of things. I don't exactly trust them to make me a solid espresso or latte with properly steamed milk. It's easy to say that Crispelli's is perhaps one of the most famous bakeries here in Royal Oak. Indeed, this place deserves all the fame and hype. The location is very near to Downtown Royal Oak. They have their own parking lot, which makes it very convenient. A huge plus, they are open early so grabbing a pastry (or two, no judgment here!) for breakfast might just be the perfect start for your day. The first view when you walked through the door is this amazing glass rack displaying loaves and loaves of all kinds of amazing bread. Seriously you will definitely be tempted to get one home and make yourself a fancy toast at home. That's only the beginning. To your left will be the fresh selection of pastries. Whether you like sweet or savory, they got you covered. I got to try their seasonal carrot cake croissant one time and it was absolutely delicious. The croissant was cut in the middle, generously spread with carrot cake filling, and topped with chopped pecans. The croissant itself is buttery and flakey. I would recommend having it toasted as the slight crispness from toasting will add an extra oomph you don't want to miss out on. It's so good that you will find an excuse for yourself to cancel any diet and devour this treat. On another occasion, I tried their savory croissant which is the turkey with horseradish cheddar. Again, they deliver such beautiful croissants, both in texture and flavor. Maybe because I'm a savory person but I find it less dizzying. Anyway, we also get to try their panna cotta. It was actually not too sweet. The texture was silky smooth. The base was just okay, but overall it was still really good. It might be slightly more expensive compared to some other bakeries but I think the quality makes up for the price. read more

I can't believe it has taken me this long to go to Bread!! I love Crispellis and have eaten at the Berkley and WB location. I remember this Bread location opening but seem to always drive by it after it was closed for the day. A friend suggested we go here and they serve Great lakes Coffee and have such delicious bread and pastries. I got a croissant and an iced cold brew. My friend had this amazing savory scone. Today was my first time coming here. My buddy lives across the street from her, and he is always talking about how great this place is. I came to give my buddy a ride and decided I was going to go over and check it out. So I walked across the street. I was looking at a big selection of pastries. I got a coffee and a pastry. I'm lucky to live super close to Bread by Crispelli, so whenever I need to buy bread I get to go to the best bakery around! After bringing loaves to family members out of town, they always ask for me to bring some. My favorite staples are definitely the Italian and the baguettes. Both are simple - "crusty" on the outside and chewy on the inside. The prices are out of this world too, the same as a grocery store and about 10x better. The latest addition is their sandwiches and honestly they are all fantastic. One sandwich is a full meal for one. Their pastries, cookies, dessert type offerings are a little more hit & miss. My favorites include the cannolis, tiramisu & chocolate chip cookies. The brownies are definitely dense and muffins are just ok. Another "hot tip" quite literally is to get a turkey and cheese croissant warmed up. It's phenomenal. Cheesy, buttery, salty, everything you want and didn't know you needed. They also have coffee drinks and some tables to eat if you want to. read more

I had a hot chocolate, cinnamon roll & a quiche. The hot chocolate was a little watery, but still good. The cinnamon roll is kinda hard, with a texture almost similar to a croissant; great to dip into a hot drink. The quiche was the perfect size for one person, made a great breakfast/lunch. read more

This place is a nice Change-Up from the Starbucks atmosphere. It smells delicious the food is very good, and it's a very social kind of dining experience. Though the menu is limited to just breakfast at this point, I understand that lunch is on its way. All the baked goods that I have tried here have been outstanding and the price is pretty much normal to a very good bakery. Decided to give this carb haven a try after a run on the track this AM. It's liked gluten heaven beautifully displayed for all to see and salivate over. Parking isn't great for weekend parking and the Inn has nice signs that the other side of the lot is for the inn place only, luckily it seems little to no one cares about the signs. It's very cool to see part of the bakery shop and the glass divider that lets you get a peak into a baker's life and love. I wanted one of everything but we settled on 2 pain au chocolat, almond croissant, cheese danish and a while raspberry coffee cake. By the way it was just for two of us too. Note to self don't go to a pastry shop after a run and high level hunger kicking in? The pain au chocolat and the raspberry coffee cake were both my favorite. My husband only preferred the pain au chocolat. Will be back again after a long run and a food deprived morning to go for the yummy carbs. read more

Delicious pastries! So fresh!! My first time here (visiting in laws) and I'm so happy to have stumbled upon this place! Their cold brew (in a can) is SO good. My favorite was the everything baguette and the s'mores croissant. Oh and the raspberry Bundt cake was so good!!! I'll be back again! Cannot say enough about this place. We've always loved crispellis and visited here a few times pre pandemic. At the start of the pandemic, when it was almost impossible to find groceries anywhere, we really started to rely on the bakery for our bread. Since then, we're in here weekly for our loaf of sourdough. It's the best in town and to have fresh bread every week is a game changer. The service is always friendly, the quiches are absolutely to die for and my husband loves their sandwiches. The pecan rolls are the absolute best! I came here for a quick meet up with a friend early Saturday morning. I was very happy that Bread By Crispelli is not located in downtown RO, so you don't have to worry about parking! Upon walking in, you see a giant glass display of freshly made bread! I ordered their hot chocolate and chocolate croissant and was very satisfied. My friend kept going on and on about how delicious the quiche was so I'll have to try it out next time!! I ordered a couple of scones (cranberry and orange?) to go for another friend and they said it was good. All in all, it was a great experience! Affordable prices, cute atmosphere, friendly service! I love chocolate croissants! Their croissants are HUGE, which is awesome. There's 3 bars of chocolate in the croissants and it's so tasty. Super flaky and flavorful. The Italian bread is very good as well. It's very soft, but the edges are a bit tough. Once you get past that, it's wonderful. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the chocolate almond biscotti. It was VERY hard. I know biscotti is typically hard, but I struggled breaking it apart. It was a bit bland too. But, who cares. We're going back for the other stuff! read more

This is our must go to place when in town. Everything we have tried has been delicious and fresh from the pastries and desserts to the sandwiches and quiches even the coffee and ice tea. This visit, it was almost lunch time so we ordered some sandwiches- - a Tomato and Mozzarella and a Pastrami. So delicious you don't want to stop. (They also have an Italian Sub which is very good). I like that the bread is not open to public breathing and general public air circulation. The pastry and cake cases looked like they were filled with a variety of tempting sweets. Finally stopped in to check out the constant flow of customers I see when I drive by. We ordered the Turkey Croissant and the Proscuitto baguette with provolone. Nice casual atmosphere to dine in at little bistro tables. The croissants are pre-made, it was very good for being "heated up"., light and flaky. The baguette bread was excellent as it should be considering the bakery name. Although we occasionally have had other things (sandwiches, pastries, desserts) we generally stick to the bread. There are multiple bakeries that sell bread much closer to us but we continue to drive much further about twice a month to buy the bread. Usually it's just sliced French bread but we also love the Cinnamon Marble, I believe it is. Other breads have been good, too, those two are just regular items for us. Service is excellent, ordering on line is easy, and occasionally, when the on line system is down, they're just as good with phone orders.
