I think if I go back again I'd ask more questions. one question I'd have is if I can pick the flavor and the options I want on and in my cone. Nothing special, good ice cream, would not recommend over anywhere else. Parking is rough, you need to find street parking or a parking; great location if you're commuting or just walking by. Service was non-existent and poor. Cashiers looked like they did not want to be there; they were out of strawberries which is a staple in a bunch of their cones. Cashier didn't make any recommendations to other ice cream cones of modifications to make the cones work in place of missing strawberries. I had to ask a few times to figure out if I could get a certain cone without strawberries. I got the Cheesecake Cone, it was good but very messy. I'd recommend sitting down to eat. I wasn't give a napkin or spoons but you definitely need it especially if it get hotter. The price is up there for a singular cone it's about $11, they also have optional tipping that doesn't feel optional. The restaurant is clean, but lacking in keeping you around. They have tables you can stand around outside, but the objective inside seems like to get you ice cream and get out; I'm sure it makes sense during busier times. All in all it's good, just not great. This is a one and done type of place. My friend and I shared the cacoa berry which came with nutella, strawberries, vanilla ice cream on a traditional cone. It was not bad, but nothing incredible. I went with the weekly ice cream flavor (Dulce de leche) in the March specialty cone, which was Oreo flavored. Stopped by today during the Tempe Festival of The Arts for a quick desert. I am Romanian so this reminded me of a Romanian-Hungarian snack called Kürtőskalács so I had to get this because it was making me nostalgic. I am used to eating the cooked dough on its own but the Nutella inside and the ice cream were a nice touch. They were so filling we actually skipped lunch due to not being hungry after eating them. There's no interaction with staff during ordering, so don't expect to try different ice cream flavors like you may anywhere else. The cones are elaborate, and it takes a few minutes to craft each cone, so the first person in your group might be done before the last person gets their dessert if you come with a large party. Ice cream is best when it's hot out, but there's no indoor seating or standing room, so plan on standing outside in 100 degree summer weather. It's common for ice cream spots to offer water: Crispy Cones had none. The actual dessert is delicious. However, we have other ice cream spots in the Phoenix metro area that are on par with the best in the country, and Crispy Cones falls short on a number of levels. I won't be back. read more

I cut out an article about Crispy Cones over a year before we actually visited on a trip to Arizona. It was on my foodie bucket list. We ended up closest to the Tempe location, which is near ASU, in the shopping/restaurant district for the University. Parking is tricky. Besides the construction going on in front of Crispy Cones, making everything more difficult, it would be nearly impossible to find street parking. However, we drove around the block behind Crispy Cones and my husband waited in the car while I went to get my cone. The only troublesome issue I see with this particular location is the parking. There were 5 people huddled around the door when I went in, waiting for their cones. I didn't quite understand the "system" when I first arrived, and after wasting some time near the door, I realized I needed to go to the back of the location to order from a kiosk. It is probably easiest to just order one of their "prepared" cones, but I had done a little research and knew what I wanted. They did ask if I needed help with the kiosk ordering, but I found it quite simple. My cone ended up being $14.00. Yes, pricey for a cone. And as far as I can tell, the least expensive choice is probably around $11.00. Then I waited as the very nice gal made my cone in front of me. Once I figured out the ordering process, everything was quite fast, though it seemed like a lot for one employee. The cone lived up to my expectations. The crispy cone part of it was delicious! Much like a sugar doughnut. The ice cream and toppings were delicious and fun, and overall I was not disappointed. It is a LARGE cone. While it was expensive, for what I got it didn't seem crazy. It was very tasty and the experience was fun! I would recommend it, just don't be me and pay attention to the process when you walk in. I almost felt like the ordering kiosk should be at the front of the store and the people waiting should be in the back, just because everyone congregates at the door, more or less blocking everyone coming in. Minor problem! But worth the time, effort, and cost, I personally thought.
