Sugar Bowl is another gem in Old Town Scottsdale and I finally stopped in for lunch!! I ordered an Egg Salad Sandwich and a 1 scoop Banana Split to go. The employees were nice and greeted me when I walked in. I did not catch the guy's name behind the counter, but he took my order and he packed my banana split perfectly. The sandwich was pretty basic, but it was a good size and also came with a giant pickle spear and some potato chips. For $10.50, it wasn't a bad deal, and I was very satisfied. I usually make mine with mustard, mayo, some spices and a little bit of relish. Their seemed like it was only egg and mayo, so it was pretty bland. The banana split was a good size, even for it being a 1 scooper! It took me 2 days to finish it, which is a good thing! I can't believe I waited this long to try this place out! It definitely has a lot of charm inside. The nostalgia of the good ole days is seen all over once you step inside. If you're looking for a snack or sweet treats, Sugar Bowl is your spot!
Sugar Bowl is truly a blast from the past. It feels like stepping into a 50s diner while being in the heart of Old Town. I came on a weeknight with my parent while they were visiting from out of town. We opted for just some ice cream sundaes to satisfy our sweet tooths. I ordered the buster brownie which was easily enough for two people to share. The brownie was warm & soft and the ice cream was thick and creamy. A melt in your mouth experience. We enjoyed the sit down, tableside service and the ambiance of simpler times. A gem of a spot that I hope never leaves.
Was super excited to try this place for the first time but unfortunately was disappointed by multiple things. Overall, pretty bummed about my experience. Food was ok...nothing special, got a coffee shake and the flavor was more bland than coffee. My dad and I tried a tuna melt and something in it tasted old and it came with chips which were very stale. Service: The service was very disappointing as our waitress did not come check on us or fill up our waters and we had to ask for the check. I saw her playing in her phone to which she didn't hear when we asked for the check for the first time. Vibe: I like the idea and vibe of the restaurant but unfortunately did appear a little dirty. You can see a picture of the booth we were sat at there was hair sticking to it as if it wasn't cleaned before.

The ice cream parlor seems to be a dying breed, and I was so happy to stumble upon this place on a trip to phoenix. They seat you like a normal restaurant and take your order at the table. The experience is very cute and really highlights how the simplest pleasures can be the best. And the ice cream was sinfully good.
I was in AZ visiting a friend and we decided to visit Scottsdale. It was pretty hot while we walked around so we popped into this ice cream shop to cool down. We decided to split a veggie sandwich and get some desserts. They brought out our sandwich first and it was really nice because they halved it and put it on separate plates for us. It came with chips and pickles on the side. It was really refreshing on a hot day. My friend got cookie dough ice cream and I got their raspberry sherbet with sprite. It was nice and cold and had a good flavor. The decor was super cute. Some people were taking pics with the backgrounds. It would be cute to dress up and go back.

I got a single scoop strawberry ice cream in a cup and it was delicious! Creamy, real strawberry bits, perfect consistency. They do serve food here, I didn't eat there but the menu looked good. When you've been around as long as they have been, you know something is being done right. Our party only had ice cream, which was great, but the food coming out to neighboring tables also looked really good.

We went to this place last Wednesday and had a great time! The ice cream we ordered was amazing and delicious. We loved the old-fashioned atmosphere, from the vintage menu books to the cute décor throughout the place. It felt very nostalgic. We also took our son to play the old-fashioned arcade games using tokens, and he had so much fun collecting tickets after playing. The whole experience reminded me of the 1990s and early 2000s. Down to the last 4 restaurants on my America 250 series, representing Arizona, I decided to go with an iconic local business where I'm from in the Phoenix area. I considered several options in Phoenix area to review, but I decided to go with the iconic Sugar Bowl in Old Town Scottsdale. It's been in business since the 1950's and has been a staple for 7 decades in Old Town. The inside is 1890's decor of pink & white wallpaper/decor like an old fashioned ice cream parlor. They have a bar area and standard seating. I remember I first went here when I was in high school in late 90's/early 2000's. Ice cream was always top notch. I used to get the Buster Brownie, which was this big brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream, goeey marshmallow topping, whipped cream, & cherry on top. It was awesome! I loved that way back then. I got lunch there once or twice; pretty good sandwiches, but the real highlight is the ice cream. My most recent visit was in Jan. 2022 with my dad. We decided to pop in for ice cream. It was as delicious as I remembered. read more
I cannot describe how much I love the Sugar Bowl. The family who runs and works here are wonderful. They are welcoming and helpful from the moment you walk in. The old pink diner set up is everything my parents experienced in their childhood. There is even a little arcade with rides in the back. I stopped in just for ice cream. They offered me a seat at the counter with some water while I chose my flavor. This turned into looking at a menu and ordering a lunch. However, ice cream first. I mean it was 104° outside. I had pecan ice cream and it hit the spot. I ordered a turkey BLT and it was really good. I brought it back to my hotel and nibbled on it for the next two days. I was shocked the bread was still decent. The lettuce bacon and turkey all held up as well. It looked just as fresh. I will definitely stop here again. read more

When it's a 116° outside, there's not much that will cool you down. However, having some ice cream at the Sugar Bowl helps a little bit. The interior is reminiscent of a 50's diner, all pink. The service was good and the ice cream was even better. Located in Old Scottsdale, definitely a place not too miss when you travel here. read more

The Sugar Bowl is a classic spot to visit in Old Town but beyond the vintage vibe of the location, the offerings leave some things to be desired. For ice cream/milkshakes/sundaes of varying sorts, the prices are fairly high for what I would consider basic desserts. While they are delicious, there isn't anything that necessarily makes them stand out from other locations in the same part of town. The service was very quick and our specific server was very attentive. Overall, it's an enjoyable spot, especially if you are going for the ambiance. read more
When discovering this place has been around for almost as long as my husband (but not me LOL) I figured we should try it for lunch on a recent day trip up to the Phoenix area. It is like a nice little slice of nostalgia with an old timey feel of an ice cream shop which you really do not find any more. We were seated quickly, staff was friendly. We ordered a couple of sandwiches which they do with chips (no fries that I could find on the menu that I could find) and a huge pickle spear. My husband loved his club sandwich, my grilled ham/cheese was fine. The sundaes are what you are really here for - at least I was. I got a fudgey/marshmallow/walnut sundae and my husband went all in with a banana split. I could not finish mine but thought the ice cream was good. I liked the whole feel and aesthetic of this place. The food was good/okay for me, my feeling is you come here more for the sweet treats which makes complete sense. Such a cute old-school style soda fountain meets ice cream counter meets diner establishment! Our server was so sweet and even put a birthday candle in my dad's sundae. She made sure we were taken care of the entire time with water and coffee top offs. We had the grilled American cheese sandwich (a classic and yummy option), the vegetarian sandwich, and Reuben. All the sandwiches came out quickly and were delicious! They're served with crunchy kettle chips and pickle. We got the Baller parfait (strawberry, mint chocolate chip, fudge), the Tin Roof Sundae, and the Gosh-Awful-Banana-Split Sundae. The Tin Roof was a great classic, the Baller was flavorful and beautiful, and the Gosh-Awful was awful good! It gave us a chance to try their sorbet. Their coffee was hot and tasty with a splash of cream. Great place to come for lunch or a sweet treat! read more

Sugar bowl is a throwback ice cream shop that also serves food and is still run by the same family since 1958. We stopped in after playing a competitive game of Curling and walking to the Mission in Old Town. It was an action back day after traveling from CLT, NC and stilling on EST. Julian, who is one Brody's teammates, got the Buster Brownie sundae Brody got the root beer float Andreas ordered the coffee cafe, Sima got a bowl of colorful ice cream and I ordered a coffee milkshake. We all enjoyed our treat after a long day of fun and travel. Definitely recommend Sugar Bowl over the over priced, over hyped corporation this caddy corner. This place really gives old school vibes! Tucked in old town Scottsdale, Sugar Bowl is so unique with the pink decor and girly pop vibes of the place. We ordered milkshakes and they were incredible - they provide milkshakes, sundaes, and other dishes outside of icecream for lunch (like sandwiches etc) so there's good variety. The place had a steady flow of people coming in and out and we had come towards the late afternoon, so I can only imagine how busy it can get earlier in the day. Definitely check it out! read more

Stepped into a little slice of nostalgia at the Sugar Bowl in Old Town Scottsdale, open since 1958, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I came with my mom, my sister, and my aunt, and it was such a sweet experience from start to finish. They ordered milkshakes, and we shared a banana split everything was delicious and perfectly classic. Our server was great. The place itself is super cute, full of old-school charm that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. It's the kind of spot that's perfect for family. One of the best chocolate malts I have ever had. If you want a traditional ice cream shop with a ton of options this is THE spot. Plus they have diner food as well. Super pretty inside. Very pink. Great service and variety on the menu! I had no idea they had so many options to choose from! Way more than dessert. Had a chocolate malt on a food tour but it was easy too sweet for my taste. The sandwiches and beef strogaaf sounded great! read more
The Sugar Bowl is a Scottsdale classic for a reason. Classic ice cream treats that don't try too hard, because they don't have to.Come for a sundae, stay because you "accidentally" ordered a banana split too. No regrets.Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area! read more
The service was great! I would say the ice cream is more old fashion and there's no innovative flavors that market towards more of the eclectic new flavor profiles of today's ice cream flavors. However, if you are looking for old fashion dinner style ice cream then this is the spot for you. The portions to me were too small but, I devour a lot of ice cream. I'm an ice cream lover and could eat three of their items by myself. So keep in mind, if your ice cream portions are larger then you may need to order two portions. read more
