In the past, Sparky's was once a Cold Stone Creamery. Even though it's Sparky's now, the ice cream is still delicious. I have been there many times, and it is convenient as I work within walking distance of Sparky's. Whenever I am walking along Mill Avenue and am craving some ice cream, Sparky's is one of my main stops in the area. The ice cream is delicious. Some of my favorite flavors are Batter in Bed and Banana Cream Pie. However, I have had just about every flavor that they serve, and all of them are delicious in their own ways. I like the pleasant atmosphere. Nice and low-key place where you can relax and enjoy your ice cream. The general manager, Connor, is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. He is always a pleasure to talk to whenever I have some time for a friendly conversation during my lunch break at work. Every time I stop by, he ensures I feel welcome and right at home. Another bonus is that they have a rewards program, which offers five dollars off once you accumulate enough points. Love this place when I visit Tempe. Always the move! The ice cream is really good, smooth and silky. They have a variety of mix ins and the menu is extensive. This place is mom & pop type cold stone creamery. Friendly staff, lots of dessert options: waffles, smoothies, mix in ice cream options, tons of different cones, dessert pretzels. I chose the small strawberry shortcake with a Oreo waffle cone. It was $10 and way too big! The $2.50 Oreo cone was good but so filling & rich. Came here with a good friend after dinner nearby. Very convenient and they are open late every day. They have a decent selection of ice cream, sorbets, toppings, waffle cones, etc. The flavors aren't that great though - like another reviewer mentioned it has a bit of a manufactured taste and the flavors don't come through very strongly. For example, we both had the double dark espresso (I wanted coffee too but they were out) and the actual espresso taste was very weak. However I'm giving the place 4 stars because the employees working there were very nice, patient, and helpful. They treat the elderly very well (aka my friend) and gave me a nice compliment. I had the very best butter pecan ice cream I've ever had!!!! Was there traveling for work and found this gem on Yelp. They have various ice cream flavors that they let you sample. The butter pecan flavor was out of this world. This is not normally a flavor I go for , but so glad I did ! I had to go back twice before flying back home. Totally worth it! This place is definitely a MUST on a late night stroll down mill. They're open until midnight on the weekends which is perfect when your late night cravings hit. As soon as I walked in, all I could smell was freshly made waffle-cones and sweet ice cream. This sealed the deal for me.. I needed some ice cream. I initially wanted to do an ice cream sandwich from baked bear but they were closed. So when I saw that Sparky's had ice cream sandwiches, it was a no brainer to try one. However, once I saw the mini waffles on the menu I decided to try that instead. I expected the waffles to be pre-made and warmed up in a microwave or toaster... nope. They make them fresh in a waffle maker once you order them. #winning! I got the pecan pie waffles which include on scoop of ice cream. I decided on cheesecake to complete my masterpiece of a dessert. It was incredible. I constantly kept scooping my ice cream into the waffle and they made the perfect combination. The flavors of the waffle, ice cream, pecans, and caramel drizzle meshed perfectly. The ONLY reason why I came here is because my 5YO son wanted to show me the ice cream place he found. Soon as we walked in the place literally smelled of feces. My son ordered while holding his nose shut. I asked what the issue was and they fella working told me they emptied their grease trap. Then there's the ice cream - nearly melted upon coming out of the freezer. The guy working said they had an issue with the freezer. What a cute little place. After a carb-heavy dinner, something sweet sounded demanding. Between a few places on the map, we went with Sparky's Old Town Creamery. For over fifteen years, this humble shop has satisfied the sweet teeth that wander Mill Avenue, and as of yesterday, count us among that number. Sparky's is delightfully quaint with a long bench and counter seating along the window. There is a limited but varied selection of locally-churned ice creams, and a menu of sundaes, waffles, smoothies, and other sweet treats. I ordered a medium PB Fantasy: chocolate ice cream mixed with peanut butter and fudge; my girlfriend got a scoop of chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone. As my confection required a little work, the ice cream artist across the counter skillfully mixed the ingredients on a cutting board next to the toppings (reminiscent of another ice cream place we know, but with all the finesse to match). We enjoyed our dessert by the window, and we left feeling wonderfully round. In matters of peanut butter / chocolate delicacies, I am not difficult to please, so I gladly declare my fandom of Sparky's Old Town Creamery. It's fine. It's like a decent college-town-on-Saturday place. They have fanciful waffle cones and a bunch of cold stone-style mixes if you're into that. But honestly the ice cream isn't that great. Good texture and plenty of variety but it all tastes rather fake. There's no strawberries in the strawberry ice cream. The banana cream pie tasted artificial. No ribbons of marshmallow in the fluffernutter. Not that it's a capital offense or anything. But just fyi it kind of all tastes like the flavors were made in a factory. Service was meh. Ambiance was meh. If you are looking for a hospital cafeteria vibe, this is your place.

I hate to do this because the ice cream here is really good. It's actually one of my favorite places to get ice cream. The customer service is usually good as well. I'm leaving this review because I came in today and the ice cream was completely melted and they still tried to serve it. So disappointing. When I asked if they had more they said no. I was expecting to purchase melted ice cream. Don't let this review detour you from coming here because maybe it was just a bad day.
