Noontime Just arrived-seated in 5 minutes. Started with a lemongrasslime rickey cocktail. I ordered 6 $1.00 oysters & an order of their most popular wings. Kris also ordered the wings. Watching people eat everything looks great. Can't wait to try the famous wings. Here they are, 6 ultra crispy chicken Hat Yao wings with fried shallots scattered around. Without sauce the wings are pretty flavorless. It 's obvious there is no seasoning on the wings other than the batter & fried shallots. Will I have these wings again; probably not. I did opt for an additional $2.00 add on ginger soy sauce but that was a bit overwhelming. I did however eat the oysters; they were sensational 11-3 pm happy hour $1.00 oysters how can you go wrong. The accompanying mignonette had quite a spice to it kept my mouth aflame.I should have had a dozen or two dozen oysters instead of just 6. Live & learn. Other than the oyster special the pricing seems a bit excessive but it 's obvious the place is a gold mine based on how many people were there eating. Do make sure you have deep pockets. My next visit I'll make my own wings at home theyvmost definitely have more flavor!!! and cost far less. I should have gone next door to High Roller & enjoyed lobster. It's like at least 3x of what it should be. $18 for fried rice that has less than 10 sausage slices which is only maybe half of a Chinese sausage link tossed in literally 1 cup of rice and bits of eggs is pure robbery. Super cute spot! Came here on a weekday and it was pretty busy. I will say, there isn't a lot of seating but they did have a small outside space and bar seating. If you're looking for delicious asian style wings, then this is the place! I recommend the extra crispy wings with shallot, Hat Yai Wings. For the sauce, you must try the Nam Jim Jaew. The non-alcoholic options are great, especially being 8 months pregnant at the time I visited! The drink I got was refreshing and not too sweet. One item I could've skipped was the pad see ew - it was a little too sweet for my liking. Definitely going back to eat more wings and try some alcoholic cocktails! read more

First time here, everything was excellent! Chicken wings are so crispy and the sauces are amazing. We had the sweet chili sauce and the garlic ranch sauce and both were so good. Cabbage salad was great (a little too spicy for me but i kept eating it) and the fried rice with egg and sausage also a winning dish. We had a beer and bloody which was also a little extra spicy for me but i powered through it and enjoyed it. We were too stuffed for the ice cream desserts but they sounded and looked so good. Absolutely awesome spot! Really unique twist on your classic Thai food. We started with the crispy waterfall salad. There was a slight gaffe here, in that the waiter brought the ginger soy sauce we ordered on the side with the salad, without telling us it was the side sauce. We ended up dumping it all in the salad, which definitely made it overwhelmingly flavorful. However, the herbs and spices still stood out in a great way, so I can imagine how good this would have been without all the extra sauce. The Kanom Gui Chai was the highlight of the meal for me, a must order!! Super chewy, flavored just right, and the chives really shine because it's just rice flour and chives. Super super yummy. The Lo Bak Go Tots were a bit underwhelming; the texture wasn't quite right, so it was too crumbly. They were also oversalted, which made it hard to eat by itself. The Hat Yai Wings were really good. Super crispy but still crazy juicy on the inside. My only criticism is that they're not really flavorful on their own, so it relies on whatever sauces you have. The Crispy Deluxe Sandwich was my second favorite thing we ordered. Chicken was again wonderfully crispy and juicy, but the addition of the tom yum spice on the chicken made it super flavorful as well. The sauce was also great. Absolutely AMAZING food. The pad see ew and Chicken wings were some of the best I've ever had! Service was really fast and super friendly. I felt very well taken care of when I was there. They staff have spot on drink recommendations and kept checking on us frequently. This place has good music and cool decor but the interior is designed to look more like a casual place. Feels like the move is to grab a quick and delicious dinner here right before hitting the bars in Old Port. I've been here 2-3 times in small groups. Pretty decent food in quality. Service is fine. Parking is difficult (metered street parking) but expectedly so in downtown Portland in the heart of the Old Port. Atmosphere is nice. So why the 1 star rating? As someone who grew up eating lots of rice, I like and know my rices. This staple here is fine - standard white rice. BUT it is absolutely ABSURD that they will charge $3 for a bowl of white rice that is approximately the size of a small apple, definitely smaller than my fist. Rice is so dirt cheap to make, certainly in bulk. I am going to be dramatic and call this price-gouging, especially if they're not going to give a side of rice with spicy meat dishes that should be eaten with rice!! This is a hill I am willing to die on. If you're ok with this, go here for decent food and a sure-fire way to beat me in a game of hide-and-seek in downtown Portland. I will not be back. read more

Walked in on a Monday evening around 6:15 and got seats at the bar along the wall. The dining room really started to fill up around 6:45/7 and got progressively louder through our meal. Service was friendly and helpful when we asked what menu items were most popular. We ended up ordering the cabbage salad, panang curry and the pad see ew with pork. Our waitress recommended getting the peppers on the side for the pad see ew which we appreciated. The panang curry wasn't very flavorful but the braised beef was incredibly tender. I had a Disco's Not Dead (vodka, fino, lychee, melon, elderflower, lime zest cocktail) which was a throwback tiki drink but delicious For food I had the crispy chicken wings with ginger, soy sauce (9 out of 10) The wings were perfectly done while the batter was shatteringly crispy . delicious I also had the slightly spicy, utterly delicious, cauliflower, and lamb skewers with peanut sauce. Also very good. The atmosphere is lively without being obnoxious; retro Asian without being tacky; and delicious without being too pricey. A total win!! We visited Portland for three days in the middle of May. After a few lovely seafood lunches and dinners, we were ready to try something from the land. Our food tour guide recommended Crispy Gai and specifically, the Sichuan Wings. We arrived around 8:30pm and sat at the bar. Jillian took excellent care of us. She also made some killer drinks. We had the Mangolorian and a Kettle One martini. We knew we just wanted wings, so I can't speak for the rest of the menu. Let me tell you that the wings were the best we have ever had...ever. The Sichuan ones had such a depth of flavor, and the Hat Yai ones were just as flavorful in a less complex way. The wings were very large, super crispy, and juicy on the inside. We chose the NJS ranch and the Nam Jim Khao Man Gai sauce, which both complimented the wings perfectly. There was a special that night of chive cakes that were also fantastic. They do add on 5% for a kitchen gratuity which we were happy to pay. I wish we had wings this good in Cincinnati! Highly, highly, recommend. read more

Crispy Gai is such a gem. An intimate spot with a vibrant storefront and interior, Crispy Gai specialized in Southeast Asian food and cocktails. I tried the Bermuda Love Triangle (perfect for those who love a sweet, tropical cocktail), a Thai Iced Tea with rum, and a Strawberry-based cocktail with a tajin rim. The Bermuda Love Triangle and Thai Iced Tea were by far my favorite--the strawberry drink was a tad watered down. Everything was delicious regardless! They have a solid amount of mocktails, too, which is perfect for those who aren't huge drinkers or are sober. From 11-3 on weekdays is their happy hour, which is $5 mimosas and $1 oysters. So, of course, I had a mimosa and 30 oysters....and 2 cocktails. It was a great day. Started off with the Same Same but different, which features a tom kha tincture that has all the aromatics that makes tom kha (coconut milk based thai soup) so special. It was more mild than I thought it would be, but a pleasant drink nonetheless. The drink is especially liked was the mangolorian, which had more in-your-face flavors, but the coconut cream and the chili powder on top really brought it together nicely. The oysters *chef's kiss*. Topped with crispy shallots and with a lil sauce that's optional that definitely had some fish sauce. So fresh. So good. I want to go back so badly And the WINGS: I got the Sichuan wings and they are not joking: they are numbing. My tongue was number and it was only slightly alarming. I am floored by how great the food is here! Placed a delivery order last night - I tried the roasted pork pad see ew and it was honestly the best pad see ew that I've ever had the honor of eating. Perfectly cooked, noodles well sauced, Chinese broccoli delicious, and spot on level of spice. This is a dish that usually can be rough with takeout from most restaurants, but it arrived like it just came out of the kitchen and was served straight away in house. It's our second time in Maine and lobster was our main reason for coming here! But this place should not be overlooked! We ordered the 4 piece fried chicken dish with the ranch and soy garlic dressings on the side. We also got the fried rice and the cabbage salad. For drinks, we got the nada colada, which is a virgin piña colada. OMG! Everything was so delicious! The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The batter wasn't too thick either and the chicken itself was flavorful enough. With the soy garlic sauce, it was perfect! I fully did not expect this restaurant to live up to the hype but it honestly exceeded my expectations!! Everything I've had here between two visits is seriously delicious and executed to perfection. I love pad see ew, and their version is the best I've ever had. It's got that smoky wok flavor with glossy noodles and crispy fatty pork. The cabbage salad and waterfall salad are both total flavor bombs. The moo ping is tasty but not a standout. The fried chicken is the true star of the menu. It's the crispiest, most flavorful fried chicken you'll ever have. The dipping sauces aren't needed but really do take it over the top. All of the cocktails are excellent, even the mocktails. I could go on and on. The service is great, from the super nice hostess to our bartender (I want to say his name was Ryan) who was very easy to talk to and kept our waters filled all night. I do wish it was a bigger space because the wait can be quite long but I like their waitlist system where you get texted when your table is ready and can even check where you are in the queue online.
