The restaurant has a nice open seating with lots of light coming in and a good sit-out area for outdoors. I wish they have better amenities for kids. Stopped in with family for lunch while visiting Portland and we all left saying the same thing: we'll definitely be back! We ordered the Pad Thai with chicken, Kra Pow, Drunken Noodles, Yellow Curry, and of course some Thai iced tea. A couple of these were lunch specials and came with additional sides. Every dish was excellent. It's rare that every dish at the table is a hit, but that was the case here. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. Beyond the food, the staff were amazing and welcoming from the moment we walked in, and the service was exceptional. This place is modern, inviting, spacious, and spotless. You can tell the staff takes great pride in the entire experience. I've eaten at a lot of Thai restaurants across the country over the years, and this is easily some of the best Thai food I've had in the U.S. If you're in the Portland area, here's a winner! read more

Visited Dok Mali for the first time. Ordered a few appetizers that were good and light. Our main meal were two of the specials and their curry noodles. The chili garlic noodles were good but a tad salty. Noodles were bouncy and have a nice flavor. The short rib fried rice was very tasty. It had spring onions, scrambled eggs and shredded short rib meat. The soup was ok. I wished it had more broth since the noodles and fresh herbs soaked up the broth. The noodles were not the fresh ones. Tasted like from a bag and it was overcooked as they were breaking and a bit mush. Taste was nice and creamy and spicy. It's a beautiful nice and airy space. I visited this Thai restaurant while I was in Portland, Maine. We stopped by for dinner while strolling around the area. It wasn't too busy, so we were able to walk right in. The space had a nice vibe with a separate bar area that gave it a relaxed feel. So, I started with the Tikka's duck with Panang curry and rice, and wow, it was so good. The duck was fried perfectly and the curry was rich and flavorful. Definitely my favorite dish of the night. I also tried the Pad Kra Pao with chicken, which was okay. Not bad, just not super memorable. The spicy cashew ramen had great flavor in the sauce, but overall it was probably my least favorite of the bunch. I also got the pineapple basil fried rice, which was really tasty and again, customized to my preferences. The only thing was it came with so much raw onions I was honestly surprised (if only I knew, I would've asked to skip it). I also ordered a vegetarian dish with brown rice, fresh vegetables, sauce on the side, and some fresh chilies. That one was really good too and felt super fresh. The Lion King dish is hands down my favorite thai dish I've ever had. I order it every single time I come here, which is, at least, once a week. The first time I tried the lion king a few months ago in May, I was back here two more times that same week to get it again. The curry is always so flavorful. The short rib is always tender and fall apart at the touch of your fork. It's genuinely one of my all time favorite meals. Never change Dok Mali, it is amazing. Their chive dumplings are also so unique and make into my weekly takeout order. They're super crispy on the outside but chewy with an also mochi like center. It's the perfect app for my curry. I've tried other menu items (via my partner.. lion king is my ride or die) and they're good! A+ thai. But truly it's not even fair to compare them to the lion king dish because it's just so damn good. While I usually do take out, I've also eaten inside several times. It's a comfortable space with bench booth seating and a bar. The servers are always kind, and knowledgeable. The drinks are amazing as well, theres really no way you could go wrong here. read more

On a whim we tried Dok Mali on a Thursday night. It was later and they had clearly been busy. It took a bit to get seated and get our drink order but it was worth the wait. We decided to try several items. My favorite was the pork belly Bao with the Blossom dumplings a close second. Everything was delicious. I wish the steamed dumplings were a bit warmer. I went to happy hour on a Friday afternoon. I was so excited to see they offered 5 types of dumplings on the happy hour menu. They sell them by the dumpling, so I order 2 of each, for a total of 10 dumplings... a "flight of dumplings" arrived that looked beautiful. There was a mix of steamed and pan fried dumplings, a mix of vegetarian and meat dumplings, and they came with a delicious soy dipping sauce. I asked for some chili crisp, and they did have some, but they also said there would be a $1 extra charge for it. The dumplings were DELICIOUS! I highly recommend! I also tried the spicy lemongrass margarita - also on the happy hour menu, and also delicious! Just the right balance between spicy and sweet. I was still a little hungry, so I also tried the fresh summer rolls - these were just ok. These were not on the happy hour menu, so were full price, and for the price I was expecting something special, and they were not. They did come with 2 dipping sauces, a tamarind sauce, and a sweet Thai chili sauce, both were just ok. The bar tender was attentive, the food and came out quickly. I would go back for happy hour again. One thing they could do better is the state of their menu. The first menu I was given was so tattered I couldn't fully read it because the edges were so disintegrating from over use. I asked for a new one, and got one, but I noticed the bar tender had to search for one that wasn't tattered. read more

We sat at the bar and I will say they were very very short staffed this evening and it took a while just to get our order taken and get our food. The waitress never asked us how we wanted our food spiced, and I got the feeling that since we weren't one of the regulars, we certainly didn't get their time or attention. We were here at Dok Mali's soft opening - we loved the food but the restaurant had a long way to go to be one of our favorites. I'm very happy to say that Dok Mali is a fantastic restaurant- the food is amazing...so pretty, tasty, and at a very reasonable price too. We started with one of the specials - scallion pancakes - they were perfectly cooked and served with chili oil. So good! The spicy lemongrass margaritas were tasty but we wished the lemongrass was a bit stronger, and with more spice. Everyone loved their entrees. I don't normally order pad Thai because it can be a bit boring, but the the Mali pad Thai was the best pad Thai I've had...the sauce was rich and spice (level 3 of 5) was just right - hot but not blotting out all other flavors. The Khao Soi (curry noodle soup) was a revelation - tender and tasty chicken on the bone, ramen style noodles, crisp vegetables, and an amazing curry broth that was just-right spicy. When our friends return in a few months, they definitely want to have another lunch here...being a regular, whether local or out of state, means that we'll have some of the tastiest Thai food anywhere! read more

Came here for lunch on Father's Day and expected a wait but was able to be seated right away. The waitress took our drink order immediately, one of us got a bubble tea that didn't come out until after our appetizers. Things seemed to come out one by one, in the order they were ready, rather than in a typical coursed fashion. No problem, just noteworthy. The blossom dumplings have been a must try since I've seen friends plastering pictures of them on their feeds. Unfortunately, I'd say they look better than they taste. They're pretty, but I think I would have been happier with my normal pan fried dumpling order. The blossoms were just okay, in my opinion, and not worth the extra expense. The chicken satay was awesome. I could drink that accompanying peanut sauce by the gallon. Our main dishes were equally delicious and the portions were plentiful. I opted for no protein in my Pad Thai but it did come with some (sweet) red peppers, onions and other veggies in it. We've been a bunch of times to Dok Mali. Standouts/Favorites for us are the corn fritters (SO GOOD!) and cold papaya salad apps. Pad Thai is pretty good, but the portion and complexity of flavors for $20 plus for the entree was a bit disappointing and missing more of everything-more tofu (or meat, Etc choice) and noodles and would be nice if it had some sort of small portion of veggies or side with it. Other entrees we've had were good, but didn't stand out in a big way. Inside the restaurant it's quite simple, quiet. Service has been friendly. They have some craft beers, though they were a bit warmer than preferred temp wise for me when ordered on draft one visit. Just left Dok Mali for lunch. I was so hyped to try it and was sorely disappointed. Myself and all other parties that arrived waited at least 5 minutes to be recognized by staff. The sign specifically says "please wait to be seated, even the bar". The place is quite small and they only had 2 front of house staff working. I sat at the bar and had a lemongrass mojito that was too sweet and syrupy with no lemongrass whatsoever. I heard the server tell another couple that they no longer offered multiple items on the menu but haven't printed new menus. Unfortunately that couple attempted to order all 3 items they no longer offer. I got the chicken pad Thai lunch special so I could try a few food items since The lunch specials come as a bento box with a few goodies to try. The dumplings and tempura vegetables were greasy and cold, the salad was really good and the pad Thai was quite good but also decently spicy for level two. I just don't feel like I had a good enough experience on my first visit to come back which is a letdown. read more

Been wanting to come to this joint for a while but it always full, finally I made it. The key is to come slightly early before dinner crowd, I guess the sweet spot is before 6 pm. Not 100% thai, got a mixed of other Asian dishes which is fine. Cocktails menu seems interesting but I think it need more development. Ordered $25 dumping flight. Some of the dumpling are good, some just meh. But in general if you want to try it all, go for the this dumpling sampler even I can't justify $25 for dumplings tasting. My partner ordered tofu drunken noodle level 5 spice ( by maine standard, if by Thai standard is level 3 ) taste is great but the noodle is sticky to each other. There's a couple of 3 noodles stick to each other and they cook the noodle too long. My mee ka teh is super huge, very tasty flavor. I also ordered level 5 spice. they serve very little ground pork, I had hard time to find them. The noodle also over cooked. But again, the broth is super tasty and yummy read more

Amazing meal and good service following a horrible experience at Wilson BBQ. It saved our evening. The Pad Thai was great and the duck red curry exceptional arriving within just a few minutes of our order. Also want to give a shout out to the manager and wait staff. We are well aware of Portland's labor shortages and it was clear it had been a long night when two largish groups showed up just before closing time. We saw Dok Mali under construction a few months ago and we're excited to try them out when they opened. Dok Mali is a Thai restaurant but saw they had a dumpling flight so I was looking forward to some different items from them. We ordered some meat on a stick, the dumpling flight, and their Khao Soy is with Chicken so I was Uber excited. The dumpling flight is pretty expensive, but comes with about 12 types -- $2 per dumpling is pretty steep but everything was delish and it was nice to try multiple options. My Khao Soy was great. Mi sen is the only place that surprised me with the serving of Khao Soy in Portland ... but they serve it with beef which is not the Khao Soy I know. Dok Mali serves it with chicken drumstick like you would find in Thailand but they go over the top. I wish I could find a smaller bowl because this one came with so much food and two chicken drumsticks. It always surprises me how much food restaurants think people can eat but we can always take it home. The interior is clean and stylish -- lots of varied seating options and the menu seemed to not be too overwhelming. Overall the staff were very nice, the food was great, but like all Portland restaurants you won't be able to come frequently because you need to wait for the next paycheck to afford it! read more

Before today, I had only ever gotten takeout from Dok Mali, and religiously adhered to my typical Thai order of Pad See Ew and Thai Iced Tea. I was so very happy to find that dining in at Dok Mali is an even better experience. We had the Blossom Dumplings (chicken and ground peanuts with a sweet coconut-based sauce), Fresh Rolls (veggie spring rolls), Pork Bao (pork belly, bao, spicy sauce), and Thai Iced Tea. The general consensus was that the Blossom Dumplings, which are a captivating blue color, and the Bao, were both standouts. The pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth good, and the dumplings were out of this world. The inside isn't what I expected--it's chic and mid-century modern. A lot of thought was put into the space, whether it be the seating, decor, or even the wallpaper in the bathroom. Found this place on a late Wednesday night in downtown Portland, and I enjoyed an incredible Thai dining experience like no other. The staff were extremely accommodating and friendly as soon as we entered the restaurant, providing a very comforting and inviting atmosphere. As for the food, every single dish was absolutely delicious and satisfied our cravings. Starting with the appetizers, we ordered the Crispy Rolls and the Chicken wings. The Crispy Rolls had the perfect crunch, and the sweet sauce that came with it provided just the right amount of tanginess to complement the dish. The Chicken wings were crispy and juicy, with each bite being better than the previous one. The entree portions were extremely generous. The Pad Thai with shrimp was light, and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. The chicken drunken noodles, similar to what many may be familiar with "Pad See Ew," provided a flavorful punch and was complemented with the delicious vegetables in the dish. As someone who is an avid "Pad See Ew" fan and ordered it every time at Thai restaurants, eating these drunken noodles gave me a new perspective as to just how good other Thai entrees can be. Lastly, The Lion King, which we were told was the restaurant's most popular dish, definitely lived up to the hype. A very creamy and rich curry base paired with the tenderness of the short rib and soft carrots and potatoes, it was definitely one of the better curry dishes that I have ever had. We ended up also ordering the Mango Sticky Rice for dessert, and it was the perfect way to end off our meal! The sticky rice was not overly sweet or chewy, but just the right amount of both that, when combined with the sweetness of the mangoes, made for such a delicious treat! This is a restaurant that surpassed all my expectations upon first visit, and is one I would definitely like to go again sometime in the future! We were lucky enough to get a table at 5:30 pm on a Saturday night without a reservation! Our waiter, Bouhno, was excellent. We started off with a delicious canned Dry Cider. We decided to share the Dumpling Flight and Chicken Pad Thai. Both were favorable and delicious! There were 14 dumplings on the Flight ranging from Chive(one of my favorites) to pork & shrimp, chicken, etc. Nice flavors on each and filling. We asked for medium heat on the Pad Thai and it was spiced wonderfully! We both have good appetites and we each walked out full and satisfied!
