Cristy's is the absolute best breakfast on the shoreline! I always look forward to going when I'm in town. If you go on the weekend, be prepared to wait. They move the line pretty fast so it's never more than a 20 minute wait. I always order a banana crunch pancake with a side of home fries. The pancake this visit was cooked perfectly. It had the perfect amount of crunch and fluffiness. I will say, things have improved very much since I was there last year. Unfortunately it is not what it used to be. I had a horrible server and it went downhill when a plate of cheese came out for my omelette. Horrible and when we finally were able to send it back it was late and stated we didn't want anything else. Reluctantly removed it from my check because I didn't want to wait for more food and then started heckling over whether I ate a few of the extra $$ home fries which were oily and gross. I think if you like pancakes, this is the spot. They have over forty different flavors and it is definitely what they are known for. They are massive. I don't really get the love for this place based on the food, but it seems to be a local favorite. The line was out the door. Philly cheesesteak omelet was pretty basic, but tasty enough. Really good food here! Was in the area and stopped by for a brunch. Started with the mimosa and Pomosa. Both really strong, so that was surprising but delicious. We both ordered omelets and shared one Peach Blueberry pancake. Everything was honestly wonderful! The omelet was the best I've had in a long time. The bacon and tomato both stood out in this dish. I wish it had a tiny bit more mozzarella but it was still great . My rye bread left a bit to be desired. The centers were super dark which is fine, but the crust was almost impossible to bite through. Definitely the best homefries I've had at a restaurant. I'm super picky with my potatoes, but they were so well seasoned I didn't need to add anything! Rounding out this meal was that pancake. It came out last and it was huge, fluffy, and sweet. It was the perfect balance of sweet, sour and savory. We didn't use syrup as there was already so much natural sweetness- plus the powdered sugar it didn't need it. The Westbrook location is the Wild West. Loud, cramped, and bustling with activity. This is not the place to go if you're looking for a chill breakfast spot after church. Weekdays can be a little more tame, of course, especially in the off season. But in summer time, stay away. Service is fine-during the breakfast rush it's maybe a little lackluster, but I think that's just what happens with a jam packed place. During quieter hours (lunch or dinner), servers are a little more patient and it doesn't feel like you're being pressured to get in and get out. Regardless, the food is consistently delicious. I was starving by the time I arrived at Cristy's in Westbrook. This is a typical hole in the wall breakfast spot. They have a large menu of pancakes available on their wall. The waitress was a superwoman! She managed to serve the ENTIRE dining room on her own, and it was FULL! She was so pleasant and was smiling the entire time! This is certainly not a job I could ever do. She asked me what I'd like to drink I told her coffee. She brought me a coffee along with an entire pitcher of refills. Water isn't complimentary, they sell bottles of Poland Spring water. For my breakfast I got an omelette with mushrooms, tomato and mozzarella, it came with potatoes and toast. This was huge, there's probably four eggs in this omelette. This was very tasty. There were plenty of sliced mushrooms and tomatoes. I couldn't have the potatoes or the toast, as it was too much for me. I think it's very odd that they would offer a huge pitcher of coffee, but no water. Overall, I enjoyed my breakfast, it would have been nice if the portion was about half size smaller. There's a bunch of awards Cristy's has received that are all over the walls. I've eaten here more times than I can remember. It has always been fantastic. Well, except for the last three times. This place has gone downhill, drastically. I thought it was odd today when I walked right in and got a seat, on a Sunday. This place is usually inaccessible on Sunday. Anyway, I wanted a simple egg breakfast, but I see this California Benedict and I figure that sounds good. But it IS Christy's, home of the world's best pancakes, so I gotta order a raspberry peach. They are delicious. The food arrives, pancake looks great. I only got one because they are now $7.85 per. That's EACH. I don't care. They really are that good. And this one was. However, that Benedict thing was awful. Apparently the cook can't do "poached". I ate two bites. Couldn't do anymore. So I did something I never do, I complained. After that, I really just wanted to eat my pancake and leave. The waitress was really pushing me to order something to replace it. I got the feeling that they intended to charge me for an inedible dish. I figure, in for a dime.... May as well wreck this train right now. So I tell her, "I WILL NOT pay for that. If it's your intention to charge me, then yes, bring me something else." So I order something simple. Bacon and eggs. Which I'm clearly not going to eat, I'll be full by the time it arrives. When it gets here, I come to the realization that the cook doesn't do eggs. My over-easy eggs were the worse I've had. The bacon was good, about as good as bacon flavored tissue paper can be. I won't be back. What a shame. All those people that will have to listen to me trash this place at every convenient moment. And probably even inconvenient ones. Really cute local neighborhood cafe. Opened for Breakfast and lunch only. They have a large breakfast menu but I didn't get a picture of that one since we ate lunch. I took off one star for not having fountain sodas they come in a bottle so no free refills. My hubby and I shared a cup of their homemade Clam Chowder. It was really great. It wasn't too thin or thick in consistency it had clams of course potatoes and bacon. I usually don't like bacon in my clam chowder but it was fine in this soup it didn't have an overwhelming smoky "bacony" taste. I ordered their Club Sandwich with egg- salad, you can also get turkey or tuna. The sandwich was huge and hard to eat but it was really good. They could have put a but less mayonnaise on it but I just scraped it off. The fries were also tasty and really well seasoned. My hubby got the Cristy's Burger. I have never seen such a huge burger in my life. It's definitely a shareable burger. He really liked it although he could only eat half of it. Their homemade potato salad is a must try. It was described as having "fresh seasonal vegetables" and goat cheese. I thought I'd get a nice tight wrap to pick up and bite into, and it would have maybe some nice grilled fresh veggies like zucchini, eggplant, red onion. Maybe some nice roasted red peppers. Mushrooms. Creamy chevre. My wrap came full of random vegetables that had clearly come out of a bag in the frozen food aisle. What happens when you cook frozen veggies? They release a ton of water. I tried to pick up my wrap and it disintegrated in my hands. The bottom part that touched the plate was completely soggy. The veggies were limp, soggy, and barely seasoned. The waitress we had was very sweet and we got there at the right time because we were able to get a table outside with no wait. Each fancy pancake is $5.75 each but it's well worth it for the quality and the amount of toppings inside. I got two Oreo pancakes and my friends got combinations including Oreo and Reese's pieces, pumpkin chocolate chip, banana and macadamia nut. We enjoyed it so much we got takeout from them the next morning as well. The parking lot is very small but they had a great system in place for takeout where you drive around back and they come out with your food. Cristy's was a great all American diner! We had to wait a while for a table since it was a Sunday and they don't take reservations, but it wasn't too long (~20 minutes). Once we sat down, we were given drinks and our food came soon after we ordered. The menu wasn't too surprising, sort of everything you would expect from a diner. That said, they have a ton of different types of pancakes so it was fun to look through and pick out which one(s) we wanted to try. My friend and I tried to share an entree, but the server misheard us and brought us the same entree for both of us. Turns out she might have known our intentions better than we did because we ate all of the linguica and eggs - it wasn't anything special, but boy did it hit the spot! We also got a raspberry pancake which was pretty good; again, it was just a big pancake with raspberries in it, but I enjoyed it. Overall, Cristy's would make a good stop if you're looking for a hearty diner breakfast.
