While up in CT for some appts, we looked for a local diner for lunch. We found a great one. Nick's is in a shopping plaza right near where we had the appts. Actually, we traveled 10 minutes north to get there. And all of us were glad we did. My wife had the chicken quesadilla. She said it was perfectly seasoned and cooked with a lot of chicken. My younger son had the pasta with butter and a meatball. He typically won't eat meatballs, but he said it was very good. My older son had a delicious cheeseburger and I had the steak and cheese sandwich. All of the dishes were very good and you will definitely not go home hungry as the portions are very generous. The bill came and it was extremely reasonable. Hats off to Nick! We will come again the next time we are in the area. In the meantime, if you ar in Madison, CT, go to Nick's. read more

Worst quality breakfast I ever had for $22. The potatoes were from yesterday and totally disgusting. The bacon was terrible. The toast which I had to pay two dollars extra for tasted stale, even though it was toasted. The butter was some form of canola oil, not real butter. The entire breakfast taste like a cheap trash diner at an expensive top end price. The coffee was $3.60 and was a tiny cup of stale crap. Literally one of the worst overpriced breakfast I've ever had in my life. The waitress was very cute and super friendly so I gave her a five dollar tip even though I was super pissed at how crappy the food was. Have a little pride and what you serve people. Do better! My husband and I recently tried Nick's place for dinner. My first impression when we arrived was how clean the restaurant was. Once we selected a table and sat down, our server immediately came to the table to ask about drinks and drop off a menu. She was very friendly and attentive during our entire meal. The menu had a wide variety of items to select from and there also was a list of daily specials. As far as our food, we enjoyed what we ordered, which was a patty melt and a chicken gyro. The portions were a good size and The prices were very reasonable. We look forward to going back and trying other items off of their menu. read more

A local steadfast and community hub, this sentinel of Madison is open on generators in the roughest of storms. As a kid I canoed here the morning after hurricane Sandy. This is my it pains me to leave this review. The quality of the food is a 0/10, their idea of an omelet with cheese is a Kraft singles plopped on top. Their potatoes are bland as soap and their hash is both from a can and worse than most types of dog food. Their cinnamon toast is Stop and Shop brand, and somehow not even the good kind. Their prices are the same as better quality local options. Service is decent, two staff today, regular rounds, kindly locals. 4/5. Ambiance is 4/5, the old style was a quintessential 70's diner but the son's renovations have brought it to an early 2010's vibe. It has those gray panel floors from HGTV, you know the ones. I'm writing this review with hopes the owners will improve on their portions a bit. I've been frequenting Nicks place for many years. The menu selections, food and specials are always great. The waitresses are friendly, on point and plentiful with coffee refills. My last two visits were disappointing. I ordered oatmeal with a side order of fruit. The fruit portion was fine but the oatmeal was in a small bowl about the size of a coffee cup saucer which I felt the $10 cost for just the oatmeal was a bit out of line. I will give them a second chance with hopes they read this and make an improvement. read more

Situated in a small plaza, Nick's Place is easy to miss but you'll be sad you did. They have a lovely breakfast menu with options for vegans and gf folks. As I'm neither, I went with a custom omelette so I could enjoy both potatoes and toast. The server didn't hesitate to jot down all my customizations and she was fast with the coffee refills. It was busy but surprisingly peaceful and it was easy to have a nice conversation. The friends I was with are regulars and it was great to see the server remember them. I will definitely be back. Why so mean? Why so inattentive?? Two more minutes of your life would have resulted in 10 more dollars of a tip. It wouldn't have cost you anything to be nicer to us. You ignored us three times when we asked you for things. You waited on people who came in after us before us. You put menus out on empty tables before you gave us menus while we were looking at you. There was no reason for you to be as mean, as you were to us, and as a result, we can't stand Nicks and we've always loved Nicks Food was adequate, but completely marred by the deliberate ignorance of wait staff. read more

Stopped here because of heavy traffic on 95 North - it was a blessing in disguise! We had potato skins as an app, perfect. My son had a grilled cheese w/ bacon and I had scrambled eggs. The service is always friendly and fast and they make a great breakfast - can't go wrong with pancakes for the kids and my wife and I have enjoyed everything from the omelets to specialty french toasts, eggs benedict, breakfast burritos, and more. Went for breakfast and had blueberry pancakes. I have no idea what was served as they didnt have the consistency, shape or color of what a pancake would be. I took one bite and left the rest. My husband tried and he too didnt know what it was. All i can say is do not order pancakes. They were awful. Sad thing is people were friendly but even when the waitress seen it was a full plate never bothered to ask what was wrong. Gave us the bill and said thank you. Will never frequent again. Old farts in Madison like to eat here. I'm not sure why that is. I've eaten at this Greek diner for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the food has always been unremarkable. More often than not I leave wishing, "I should have stayed at home and cooked something myself." By the way, I couldn't make meatballs that bad, even if I really really tried. Nicks is a hidden gem. Honestly I am a townie since 1992. I have been going to Nicks since then. Their soups are homemade. Breakfast is delicious, so is lunch and dinner. On any other day, in any other time I think I would give the restaurant a couple more stars just for the friendliness and helpfulness of the gal that served us. However, with indoor dining just reopening I was disappointed. There was a sign posted at the counter saying basically, masks are required, but some people can't wear wear them so don't give them a hard time. Also, there has "always been risk that comes with going out in public." Unfortunately, this seemed to give the staff there permission to not wear masks while preparing food. The lovely and very helpful woman who helped us kept removing and replacing her mask to eat (without washing her hands before serving people). These reasons alone will keep us from ever going back. I guess that's the inherent risk they take operating like that in the midst of a pandemic. read more

Met a friend here for dinner. The place was busy and we had to wait 15 min. The portions were large and tasty. The place is small and they pack a lot of tables into the area, so it is a bit tight. The people were all nice and moved chairs to help you get around and the staff always had smiles.
