Excellent service and great selection, which includes vintage men's Wrangler shirts. Their items are all in really good condition. I actually had to ask if items were used or brand-new because it was hard to tell. The sales associate who rung me up the register took great care in wrapping my purchase in tissue paper and sliding it into a sturdy gift bag. Tips: They have an Instragram account. As part of my desperate attempt to find some decently cool Austiny gifts i found myself wandering S Congress and happened into Crofts Originals. They had some unique Austin themed tee shirts that i felt pretty good about and so i nabbed 3 of them thinking I scored big. I have to say that I about fell down then and there when i saw the price for these shirts $30 something bucks for a tee shirt. Okay, they are pretty cool and decent quality shirts but wow. So not wanting to Grinch out i bit my tongue and bought them anyway. They do have some cool clothing here and the staff was very friendly. I almost got a little something for myself. But Santa says OK for gifts for others and Grinch won out on gifts for me. read more

Crofts has a nice assortment of interesting clothes and T-shirts. They also had some nice leather items like belts and bracelets. What really caught my attention were the Sseko sandals they had. They are these sandals with interchangeable laces and they support women in Uganda. Trendy shoes for a good purpose? Sweet. read more

So I thought I left a review, but I guess I never wrote it! My husband I were visiting Austin over Halloween weekend and found ourselves in this store. Super cute things. My husband was looking at the My Pakage display when (Joel?) came over and sold him on the concept. He bought one pair and then the next day basically bought every style. Thanks Joel, this is an expensive habit you have created. :) But everyone was super nice and cool and I definitely want to come back when were in the area. P.S. Very nice service here. Was greeted with a smile and a hello. Not much merchandise in this store, but great textures in their apparel. I didn't feel like buying clothes when I stopped in, but I wanted to give this place a shout as they were super friendly, cute style, and very soft textures in their clothes. read more

Well, I guess when you buy an original, you pay the price for one. Nothing here was too amazing. Some "fake vintagey" pieces. Modern day things meant to look old school. Why do that when you can go next door and just buy the real thing for half the price. The jewelry was verrrry simple, if that's your thing ( not mine.) The shop has good vibes though, and if you want some pimped out reading frames, they have some great ones for reasonable prices. read more

I stayed for a week in Austin during SXSW, last March, and Crofts became of of my favourite shopping places in SoCo. They have a lovely selection of boho clothing: pretty dresses, nice tees and some very interesting vintage boots. Also Chan Luu bracelets and clothing, not so easy to find around here. I bought a pair of jeans and some cute tops and they were also reasonably priced: I happened to find a denim sale going on and went home with a lovely pair of distressed Vintage Revolution jeans for 20$ :-)) When I go shopping I usually turn the shop upside down as I actually try everything on - the girls were super helpful, not pushy at all (such a relief!) and also gave me some useful style advice. read more

I have to say that I had excellent service at Crofts. I was given a couple of really cool, very snug t-shirts for my B'day and I was feeling a wee bit insecure about sporting them in public (I tend to drown in my oversized clothes!) In I came with all my neuroses and fully intending to exchange the t-shits. Instead, I got a kinder, gentler version of "What Not to Wear" and felt better than after a therapy session! Yeah... Steer clear of Crofts. I normally avoid writing negative reviews, but sometimes that's just what's needed. My wife and I were in Austin for our anniversary, and enjoying a day on South Congress, when we stopped in Crofts to look around. Despite having "Original" in its name, it's a lot like most of the other shops in this area, but it still has some interesting things to look at. I bought some items and, upon trying them on that evening, I found them very uncomfortable. I went back the next day to return them. That's when "Ali Whiney Voice" told me they have a "strict no return policy." I asked why I wasn't alerted to this when I was checking out, or why there was no signage to that effect, and AWV told me that it was just their policy. I explained how that wasn't very considerate or convenient, and asked if they could make an exception since I wasn't told. AWV said she'd check with the "Jill the Owner," but she doubted it because they had never returned anything before. I left the item, receipt, and my name and phone number with her, along with my hopes and dreams of a successful outcome, and went down the street to kill some time while she called the JTO, who, apparently, was trekking in the Himalayas, or some other similarly out-of-reach destination. After spending an hour wandering through some other shops with actual "original" items, I had not heard back from AWV. So, I returned to Crofts. AWV had "actually just got off the phone" with JTO right before I walked in. Unfortunately, JTO said "absolutely no way!" AWV threw JTO under the bus numerous times, explaining that "Jill makes the rules..." When I asked AWV to put herself in my shoes, she assured me that she "always puts [herself] in the customers shoes. Always." Awesome. So, I'm now the proud owner of some useless items that I have to try to unload on eBay. Who knows... maybe AWV will accidentally buy them for her boyfriend. He's probably in a band. read more

Okay, I was attempting to get some mother's day shopping out of the way when I wandered into Crofts. Once in the store, the collection of very (VERY) reasonably priced vintage, snap-button shirts--long- & short-sleeved--prompted me to remember that May is my birthday month. After that rationalization, it didn't take long for me to find a great shirt...for under 20$...on South Congress...are you kidding me???!!! Of course, with such great savings on a shirt, I couldn't help but notice the BedStu leather slip-ons. I was helped in my shoe-buying process by Cory--a customer service master IMHO. I say this as a former women's shoes salesman and I can be one hell of a picky/obnoxious customer. Cory waited until the right moment to approach and then gently helped me through the try-on and selection process. He seemed to sense how particular I am as a shopper (I have no qualms about leaving a store if I feel a salesperson is being too pushy or inauthentic.) Whatever the case, Cory kept me engaged in a very non-threatening and helpful manner. And, his partner, Stephanie deserves kudos as well...for staying out of the picture until called upon. She seemed to realize that Cory had my trust and she wisely played a supporting role. But enough about the wonderful customer support...I still can't get over how inexpensive (& cool!) the shirts were. And, I paid about 1/2 as much for the shoes as I would have anywhere else. On many levels, this store is worth a stop, and before they get more cutthroat about their prices, a purchase, too! read more

Crofts is a really cute shop on South Congress. It has a great location with great shops in the surrounding area. They have an array of different designers and cool locally-made jewelry. The staff was very helpful and attentive as they would add things to my dressing room for me so I wouldn't have to carry them around. my feeling is that when you buy things at local, faux-kitschy places like crofts, you expect to find service that reflects what that establishment is all about. maybe a little bit of camaraderie, some level of we know you over-paid for this article of clothing just so you could shop here and we want to encourage you to repeat that decision. not so at crofts. my husband bought me something that was the wrong size as a gift. it was cute, just didn't fit. he bought it on december 20. today (feb 6, 6 weeks after he bought it), finally, i made it down to soco with said item and the receipt (live in hyde park, work up north, it's kind of a trek). it's never been worn, it's still wrapped in the tissue paper they placed it in when they sold it to him. they tell me they can offer me store credit or an exchange - fair enough, i think the store has decent, semi-cute things, so i opt for the exchange. as i'm looking around, however, the two under-worked, unhelpful, snotty, sorority-wannabe cash girls whisper for a couple of minutes before informing me that i'm outside of their return policy. by 2 weeks. are you effing kidding me? they then tell me that since they don't own the store, they can't make decisions outside of store policy. this exchange takes place with me trying to be reasonable, and the two of them obviously getting off on being as bitchy as possible on a lovely friday afternoon. i cannot (obviously) articulate what a horrible taste this experience has left in my mouth. when i shop, i don't expect to be coddled or have my ego stroked. i do expect employees who are reasonable and helpful rather than smirky and rude. the world has not yet seen the dress that is cute enough for me to deal with that level of pretension. word of advice to the owner: advise your employees to ignore customers rather than act like a word i won't publish on the internet. read more

Wow, I just read some of the reviews on this place and they are all accurate except one. Piper's. I happen to be a Fasion Designer and a Buyer and the prices at this establishment are no more above average than many of the retail establishments I work with. I've also experienced the level of comradarie with local boutiques equal to the level of kindness one exhibits upon entering the store. Many boutiques have their store policy printed right on the recipt, so anyone who can read will not experience any confusion with the return exchange policy. Crofts has it clearly posted on the bottom of the reciept and at the register. It's Funny one would gripe about trying to break a store policy knowingly, and act like a spoiled child would when not getting her way. Having worked in the real world and dealing with people of Piper's type, its no surprise the girls could have not been, as friendly as they generally are. Although clearly the employees are college students, I am pleased to find that they follow store policy. If someone wants to return any item at any time, they should shop at Nordstrom, but in doing this they would forego the whole local pride thing which apparently Piper would like to show she has, but it's obviously not in her heart. People like her don't like to be coddled when they shop, they just like to have their ego stroked by completely getting their way. Clearly she was in the wrong. Clearly she is not for the local Austin business. Clearly it is (obvious) who the bitch is... I would recomend however that anyone try their hand at Crofts, as it is a gamble one can't loose! The mens section, though only 25% of the store, has many cool tees (Union is a favorite) and vintage cowboy snaps that one wouldn't find on their grandpa. The womens section has delightful items I would love to find most any attractive woman wearing! For those less fortunate, go improve your look! read more
