We even drove right past it the first time - when they say it used to be a church, they aren't kidding. Marienthal itself is three different pieces - the church is absolutely beautiful, and has been converted into a large reception hall. Behind the church is a beautiful little patio with a fireplace where we were able to have breakfast the next day. The parsonage next door was renovated into a number of guest rooms - the room we were originally in was the smallest of them, but had a beautiful attached bathroom, TV and was still plenty of room for two people. Lastly, there was a building (which I believed housed nuns originally), that has been converted into a bit of a retreat centre. There were a half-dozen or so double rooms with a full kitchen upstairs, and a large meeting area downstairs with another great kitchen, big screen TV with satellite, and lots of couches. We even had access to a great little jacuzzi in the back. This place is an absolute gem in the middle of nowhere. There's a little grill next door if you want to grab some food, but otherwise there is almost nothing in the immediate vicinity. You can drive about half an hour if you're looking for things to do, but if you really want to just get away in peace and quiet, where you know you won't be disturbed, this is absolutely the place to do it. Location and buildings aside, the hosts are really what makes this place special. Both of them go way out of their way to be accommodating. Louise's breakfast was very likely the best breakfast I've ever had in my life. Homemade apple turnovers, local sausages, and the fluffiest, cottage-cheese pancakes that still make my mouth water. And Vinnie is a very entertaining fellow to talk to - he has absolutely no shortage of hilarious stories to tell. The two of them were great to have as hosts. The next time we need a quiet getaway, there's zero doubt about where we'll end up.

The room was very clean and had a lot of extra amenities, including a hair dryer and shampoo (except we didn't ever find any Robes- as promised in their information about the hotel). Either way, the room was fun and the bed was comfortable. We also really enjoyed their 'lounge' which had snacks and wine and a TV to watch the bills game on. In the morning the hosts made the most delicious "country style" breakfast- eggs, pork loin, fruit, pastries, mashed potatoes and homemade apple sauce. I ate everything but the pork loin (Im a vegetarian) but my husband said it was wonderful. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

So friendly and helpful and a pleasure to interact with. We brought our dog, Freddy Sue, this time around, and I would absolutely recommend this hotel to fellow dog owners looking to take their pup to a dog friendly town. It is a $70 charge which is steep, but was worth it to us in terms of peace of mind, especially with the off peak rate of this hotel on a Saturday to Sunday being $140. The beds are SO comfortable and I had such an awesome night's rest. Of course, the location cannot be beat. In the non-COVID times, we bopped from restaurant to restaurant drinking our way through the town and it was amazing to be able to come right back to the center of town as home base. As for the breakfast, it is cool food like vending machine muffins and bulk cereal. No hot food or waffle maker. Even the orange juice was little per-filled sealed cups like it came from a hospital cafeteria. They are remodeling the lobby but they should be doing something with the dated rooms. No charging stations and the couch was old and ratty. We will not be back to this place. UPDATE: I complained on my survey and was contacted by a customer service representative and they gave the company response "sorry for your bad experience we will try hard" which I replied, typical response, I don't believe you even read my additional comments. I said that there was a time when customers were compensated for bad experiences but now it is , we got your money, sorry. About a hour later a got a reply that half my money was being refunded. So at least they are trying so I changed my rating to 2 stars for the effort.
