Had to ask for everything even after we (myself and 3 of my wife's friends) told them how ravenous we were. Reasonable total price as its BYOB, but everything including bread has a price with it. Conclusion: there is minimal value here. The pricing is way too high for Indian food in general. The quality of the food is average. The taste is very bland compared to good Indian food. Pros: the pakora had a good taste. Decor was nice. Ambience was pleasing and very quiet as we were the only diners at 6:30pm. Cons: the pakora was almost all dough and should be relabeled Indian hush puppies. The Tikka masala was practically flavorless - I could see why the waiter would say it was close to butter chicken as butter was the primary taste to the sauce. The chicken itself was dry and chewy. The waiter was very gruff and seamed harried even though we were literally the only customers. The bill was high (over $30) for one lassi, one order of pakora, and one order chicken tikka masala. Came here with my close friend and was her first experience with Indian (seriously, who turns 50 without eating tiki? should be a law against that but I digress). We started with Samosas. They were good and a warm up for the main course. I've been on a Vindaloo craze lately but didn't think my partner would be able to handle the heat. Great Indian food. Came here on a whim w my fiancé and we tried the chicken anchari per our servers recommendation. Bomb. It's slight spicy but I'm gonna ask for it even spider next time. We also ordered the salmon korma which was realllly good as well but i would order chicken korma next time. Salmon is already creamy in taste so to add a creamy sauce the dish was tasty but flat at the same time if that makes sense? I just feel korma is better paired with other proteins. HEADS UP: Last seating is 9:00!! Not 10! We drove from Lambertville for a late dinner and even though we were a half hour after closing the waitress pulled some strings and snuck us in. We hadn't been here since my 40th birthday. Though we love this place for some reason we hadn't been here in about 5 years. Being back here was such a treat. I love how when you walk in the restaurant the smells of all the spices overwhelm your senses. Instantly my mouth starts to water. We recently ate on the patio and it was so great to people watch and enjoy the beautiful weather. Thankfully they have ceiling fans on the patio so even on a hot summer night the outdoor dining is pleasant. We had the mixed tandoori appetizer with garlic and onion naan. It was so outstanding, cooked to perfection. The 4 of us shared the lamb nagarisi and we split the mixed byriani. Amazing. This is a fantastic Indian restaurant run by a wonderful family. The best time to go is for lunch. The lunch is 11 dollars and you get a appetizer entree rice and naan. I think it's one of the best lunch specials around Doylestown. Disappointment. I'm constantly craving Indian food, and when I walked by and first noticed this place a few weeks ago, I was thrilled. I took a look at the menu, and both the dishes and prices looked pretty good (although it was lunchtime and I was bummed there wasn't a buffet)! So about a week later, my husband and I walked over for dinner. The prices were suddenly awfully expensive (even for Doylestown, which likes to act like it can charge in the range of Philadelphia and New York eateries because...of it's location? Population of transplants from said cities? I don't know). We picked our items and considered asking for them to be prepared extra spicy because the menu kept mentioning words like "light" and "mild." But we decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt and start at the base. Then we'd know if we had to ask for things to be made spicier in the future. ...We're gonna have to ask for things to be made spicier in the future. The food was good (though my husband said that whatever I picked tasted like soap), but kind of boring and definitely overpriced. We did have enough for leftovers, though, and the service was friendly. I guess the family stayed home tonight other than maybe the chef. The food was very good, but terribly over priced. We would have been better off to head over to Lansdale, Princeton, or West Philly. The service was awful, young waitress decided to correct me on my pronunciation of my entree, thanks. Appetizer, Entree were delivered at same moment, followed a few minutes later by their naan. I told the waitress I would also need an order to go. Did not see the waitress of anyone else for about 25 minutes, no seriously, we were the only customers in the restaurant. 630PM on a Sunday (holiday weekend). We were so fed up at this point we were not about to wait for my daughter's to go order which we were never able to place as the waitress disappeared. There were no re-filled drinks, no check on our meal, nothing.. I suppose this is why CC was the only restaurant on State Street that was empty. We went to Cross culture in Pedler's Village (Lehaska, PA) a number of times and really enjoyed the experience. The owner's cousin was visiting from overseas and show us an amazing short film. The food was well prepared and the value was about right for the quality and generous portions. That all being said, we were quite disappointed with the new Doylestown location. We felt like what I think a number of other reviewers are saying as not being important and that our opinions and preferences didn't matter. Every time we pass the place now we think, wow, a great Indian restaurant in Doylestown we want to support, but when we know the feeling isn't mutual we keep walking. Update: Went back after my wife recommended that we try it again. Portions were a bit bigger, but still a bit dry. Recommendation for anyone ordering lunch, ask for a wrap special even if they are missing from the menu. They are much cheaper and quite filling. read more

Have gone here for years but my lunch on Saturday was the worst.Was first educated about Indian food in London a few decades ago and many many times subsequent either State side or in Glasgow... The chicken tikka masala was cooked by someone who doesnt know or someone who doesnt care. The sauce was flavorful but the chicken was drier than dry and flavorless and not worthy of plating... A well accomplished French chef accompanied me that day and said he thought my words were too kind... I'm really surprised to read some of the lower-star reviews because I had an excellent experience last night at Cross Culture. To be honest up front, the only reason I didn't give them a five is because I don't think they're food is a ton better than other Indian restaurants I've visited, but the prices are a bit higher (not a ton -- a couple of bucks). I think it may be a location thing, but price is certainly a consideration for me. We started our meal (three ladies out to eat) with the Mixed Appetizers for Two. It was more than sufficient for the three of us and included two samosas, pakora, and papadam. The papadam was like a big tortilla that was dried out and crunchy. I'd never had that before and I thought it was kind of bland (though I suspect it's supposed to be that way and should be enjoyed with the flavorful chutney that came along with it). We also had an order of garlic naan that ended up getting saved for the meal. It didn't have as much garlic flavor as I was expecting, but it was good nonetheless. I had the Aloo Gobhi and I loved it. It came out nice and hot and the vegetables were well cooked -- not too mushy, but not too much crunch -- a perfect balance. The rice that accompanied the meal was also hot and properly cooked. My friends had Navaratan Korma and the Chicken Cashmere. I tried both but preferred the Navaratan Korma. I'm not usually a fan of coconut, but the light coconut flavor in this sauce was delicious. None of our meals were particularly spicy, so if that's something you're looking for, another dish might be in order. Our service was great and on a chilly night, despite the fact that we were fairly near to the door, the small vestibule keeps the restaurant toasty. I asked for onion naan to go at the end of our meal and it came out within 10 minutes, so I was pleased with that as well. I will definitely be back! read more

Very mixed feelings. I was pleasantly surprised and expected it to be a lot worse. We sampled chicken kashmiri, lamb korma, chicken tikka masala, lamb biryani and a shrimp dish. I agree with previous reviews about the 3 out 10 level of spice being pretty ambiguous. Some of the dishes were very spicy even though being rated that 3 out of 10. However, the flavor was pleasant. They were almost what they were supposed to be. There was something slightly off with some of the dishes though, the sweet lassi tasted like it had cilantro in it (maybe it was something else) and the rasmalai for some reason seemed to have lime zest in it. All that being said, I would probably come back. Service is pleasant enough. One of the dishes was a little too spicy for one person at the table and they did replace it promptly and apologize profusely. However, like I said I was pleasantly surprised at the overall experience. I would probably go back next time I'm in town. read more

Wow - really only 2 stars? I found Cross Culture phenomenal! Now granted, that is only based on the 2 dishes I've had there, but those 2 dishes were truly delicious, and seemed quite authentic based on the many many Indian joints in which I've dined throughout PA and NYC. I got the Baingan Bartha (an eggplant/tomato dish) and the Palak Kofta (vegetable balls and spinach). I found the food so good that I took my Indian-food-loving friends all the way down from Bethlehem, and they all agreed it was spectacular. OK... I'm not being entirely truthful. I did get one other dish once, the Mutar Paneer, and it was not good. The peas were way undercooked. So ok, I can see where people might think the food is inconsistent. But the other 2 mentioned dishes were good enough to keep me thinking about this restaurant every time I get a hankering for Indian food. read more

Why all this hate for such a solid restaurant?! Cross Culture is my go-to for a fun BYOB with my Indian-loving or more adventurous friends, and it therefore is highly recommended by me. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous-- I always end up having to bring some home or push some off on my significant other. My suggestion is to begin with the Garlic Naan (leavened bread), and to try either the Tandoori Chicken (very mild), Chicken Curry (a little spicy) or Chicken Vindaloo (if you like it HOT). There is also a plethora of vegetarian options. If you go (as you should), sitting outside is a great way to enjoy a nice Doylestown night. read more

I seriously don't understand the low reviews that some people have given. Went tonight for the first time. We were seriously blown away. My wife is not, typically, a big fan of Indian food. But damn if she didn't demolish her meal. Mine was also fantastic. Everything we ordered. Different lamb dishes, breads, samosas and more. Even the chutneys they gave us for dipping. We will be back. It was empty at 8pm on a Wednesday, but just a week ago on a Friday evening we noticed that the place was very crowded - including the big outdoor porch - all night long (we were eating next door that night). read more

Doylestown used to be a pretty parochial place, where the most access to "ethnic" food was a Chinese American restaurant on Main Street called "Chong's Garden." This has changed over the decades along with the rest of the country--it's not much less parochial, but part of the trappings of having a nice suburban town is that there are food options beyond the fast and the customary Italian place with red tablecloths, dark lighting, and veal parm. So you can imagine my skepticism when I came to Cross Culture early in the evening a couple of weeks ago. The place was literally empty, which is a shame because the food is quite good. The chicken saag was tender and delicious, lovely samosas, nice curry dishes, etc... all the important stuff. The server was terrific and attentive, too (not that he had a lot of tables to juggle, but we were semi pains in the butt with ordering and he was patient and helpful). If you want a decent meal in Doylestown-which remains hard to come by, go here. Fresh Indian food, brought quickly by a good staff. We have been here quite a few times over quite a long period as we live most of our time in Reno. As usual service was excellent even though the restaurant was jumping this Saturday night - very attentive without being intrusive. The food is always highly dependable, many choices plus the ability to kick it up a notch if you desire - I grew up eating hot vindaloos, but my current age balks a little at the super hot now. I went for the top level of spicy on my Lamb Korma and it was perfect - a little moisture on my forehead but I still had my lips! My wife had the fish tikka masala - excellent. Unfortunately, I'll probably take a longer drive to go to a better place, since the convenience isn't worth it in this case. When I tell you I scarfed this food down, I mean I really ate it fast. Well spiced, nicely balanced, so delicious!! I'd say this was my second experience with indian food, and I wasn't disappointed. From the delicious food to the stellar service, I can't imagine why anyone would go anywhere else for Indian food. The samosas are the freshest and best I've ever had, and the entrees are so flavorful and spiced perfectly to any level you specify. My husband and I always get the Navaratan Korma, Palak Panir, Chili Garlic Naan, and Vegetable Samosas - at least once a week, sometimes twice! I recently said I think it's my favorite meal ever. Friends turned me onto this place after suggesting we meet up for dinner here. I had a hard time finding the place (you'd never knew I grew up only 15 minutes from Doylestown), but once I made it inside, I was a big fan. The service was sooo nice and very attentive. The atmosphere and decor are inviting and the menu is varied to please all. We started with vegetable samosas which were incredibly delicious, especially with the mint chutney and tamarind sauces. I ordered the vegetable biryani and while it was very tasty, it was spicier than I've ever had it and the sauce was cold - I'd only ever had it served warm before and I think I prefer it that way. The chicken kashmir was ridiculous delicious (the best entree on the table - sweet and nutty) and the palak paneer was also very tasty cheesy spinach. Unlike many of the other reviews, I didn't really find it to be too expensive, but I don't eat Indian very often so I don't have much to compare it to. I can't speak to the dine-in experience, as we've only had takeout from Cross Culture. Our dishes were delicious, especially the palak panir.
