I am a BLT pro. I love this sandwich. I am also partake in breakfast potatoes. Not just home fries. This place hit the arrow in the bullseye. The BLT was LOADED with tomatoes. The sandwich was full fresh, cold tomatoes and hot bread, romaine lettuce nice crisp bacon and mildly toasted perfect bread. The potatoes had some fried onions to make them just excellent. Honestly I think this place is just alright. Its not the best I've been to, especially because breakfast should be simple and easy in some many ways. After hearing, on a number of occasions from a number of folks, how wonderful Cross Keys was, I decided to give it a go! I will say from the moment I walked in, until the moment I left, I was utterly impressed! Cross Keys possesses the small-town breakfast and lunch place that so many other try for, and don't succeed. The second I walked in the door with my guest, we were greeted with a friendly smile and sat at a table immediately. Coffee and tea were brought to us upon request very quickly. The server have us ample amounts of time to mull over the menu and make our decisions. Now, to the most important part, the food. My meal was excellent and well developed. Cross Keys does an awesome job at taking a simple idea for breakfast, i.e. scrambled eggs, and they make it decadent and flavorful. My plate contained a few scrambled eggs mixed with a Swiss cheese, prosciutto, green onions (scallions), fresh onions, all topped on a hash brown with wheat toast. The flavors of the plate were bursting on my palate. The portion was just enough that I finished everything without feeling over-full; but, definitely not leaving hungry. As I sat at our table I observed the interactions of the servers and the guests and all reminded me of a big, family kitchen. The staff really exemplifies the idea of this establishment being a big family environment. I always like to leave pricing until last, as it's not a big factor for me; but, I know it is for others. Overall, this diner is very affordable. It's certainly not your typical $2 meal from a 24-hour diner; but, you might spend an extra $5-$10 and it is worth every penny! Overall, this is a great "hole in the wall" type diner that is very popular with the local Doylestown community and anybody lucky enough to discover from the outside. Had a very uncomfortable and disappointing time here. The people who worked here were very rude and not accommodating at all. Me, my husband and my two sons (1&3yrs.) were not allowed to be seated till the other two members of our party arrived. We asked if we could please be seated, as there were not many people there and plenty of open tables. Anyone with small children know what it's like to have to wait in an open space by a front door while the kids are hungry. I realize they have a rule in place here and that is fine, but the smirks my family got from the employees were undeserved. Do not suggest this place. Ate late lunch here with my three sons, two of us got omelette specials, one a sandwich special, and the ten year old 2 hotdogs w/cheese, which he pronounced "very satisfying". I ordered the omelette with grand cru cheese, spinach, kalamata olives, broccoli, squash & some other ingredients I can't remember. Best. Omelette. Ever. We have eaten here a few times over the years but never again. We went for breakfast but there was a wait so we left. The hostess gave us a nasty look and yelled a rude remark out the door and across the parking lot as we left. A note fell off the door as we walked out and she expected us to pick it up and fix the way it was applied to the door. That's not a customer's responsibility and insulting us was not appreciated. Previously was a solid diner with interesting and flavorful dishes. Food is still strong but prices are now a bit unreasonable for a diner. The biggest decline has been in service - inexperienced workers who say "it will be just a minute" cannot tell you twenty minutes later when a table will be ready, but can find time to make some drawings and engage in gossip with other teens. If you have an hour and a half, it's worth the wait but lack of oversight of the overall customer service is a big problem. read more

Attitude is everything - We (3 of us) arrived at around 10:50, after 40 minutes and a group of two, we were three, went in before us we understood but asked how much longer, we were told we were next... at 11:40 a group of five that had only waited for about 15 minutes (we had waited 40) was seated we waited patiently to see if the host would explain... after 10 more minutes I took a turn at asking where we stood as no one came to tell us and asked why a party of five who arrived much later than us were seated before us. The response from the host lacked any convincing that she cared as she and told me that it wasn't her decision to have seated the 5. You can have the best little spot in town food wise - (and we had heard it was great) but if the experience you give people is uncaring and rude then many may choose not to patronize that establishment. read more

Anyone who lives in Doylestown knows Cross Keys. The BEST breakfast in town. I know that breakfast can be somewhat boring, but not at Cross Keys! I would recommend anything on their daily specials blackboard. Their ingredients are always fresh, and beautifully prepared. Great coffee, great service. Try the cornmeal buttermilk pancakes. Used to come here a couple mornings a week for breakfast with a couple girlfriends of mine after we dropped the kids off to school. Most of the waitstaff were pleasant and gave us good service (aside from the hippy chic with the short blonde hair - she's very curt and always kept us waiting. In fact, came to the point where we dreaded having her as our server). However, the last time I came was between the breakfast and lunch shift - not a good idea. While all the wait staff was on the floor, no one came over to us for 10mins (not including the 10mins we waited at the door to be seated only to have the male host tell us to wait while he made choc milk, refilled waters and coffees - all while more than half the restaurant was empty. Had a couple behind us even go to the counter because the wait was so long). Had to ask someone if they would take our order and was answered in a rude, curt "someone will be with you soon." Of course, it was out dreaded blonde hippie server. Food is amazing and why I continued to come back. However, after my last experience I won't be (and have not been) back ever again AND I always tipped 30-35%. My guess is that they've become jaded being the best diner in the area but the owners have to realize the food is only half the experience - the other half is service. And since the service your staff offers has fallen by the wayside there's no way I'll be back - and I've been sure to tell EVERYONE I know not to come either!! 1 star for service although they deserve 5 stars for their cuisine - what a shame your staff brought your rating down to 1 star. read more
