    Creamed chipped beef

TL/DR: the specials seem awesome, but apparently sell out fast A cute little space, with a lot of staff on hand, clearly a favorite of locals. There were some awesome specials that our somewhat harried server belatedly told us were sold out- after we'd ordered them, and she headed back to the kitchen to place our order. Uh....OK, so staying on top of things wasn't her key skill set, I guess. My SOS was good, though I couldn't shake the feeling that maybe the dried beef was Hormel quality (IFYKYK). It still hit the spot, and I'd come back again if I passed this way.

Well I'm glad I decided to give it another go- I've now been coming semi regularly over the past year or two and have enjoyed it immensely. I particularly love that I can get a combo with eggs meat and French toast - the combo platter. The baked goods are also heavenly - had pumpkin bread pudding and a raspberry muffin both to die for. Their coffee is good too. They're definitely always busy which is great for them but the wait can sometimes be a little long. Sometimes the tables are a tight squeeze and they run out of specials - but this is all just a testament to how good they are. Last time we put our name and were told it was be a 20 minute wait, we came back maybe 12 minutes later and they had given our table away so we had to wait longer - but then they offered to text another group after us. That's been the only real problem I've had but overall exceptional. Oh and I like the potatoes the old way - but that's just me. However you can ask for them with onions which I never knew until I asked. They make the best eggs - hands down.

    The Sam omelette. Super tasty.

My wife, friends, and I wanted to get some late breakfast after our conference and based on your Yelp reviews, Cross Keys Diner was our choice. We made a very good one. There's nothing really fancy about what I think is a converted house into a diner; just the boisterous crowd (ourselves included), great coffee and better food. We all didn't eat breakfast, so we were famished when he got in a bit after 11am. I checked in and they have signage that you will not be seated until everyone in your party is present. Once this was the case, we only waited maybe five minutes before being seated at the no frills table and chairs. The menu is a typical diner menu with a little bit of everything. We all wanted breakfast. My one friend had the French toast, my other had a French Toast "sandwich" which had eggs and home fries, and my wife and I had omelettes. Mine had hot sausage, peppers, fresh greens, and mozzarella to go with the three eggs. The home fries were nice and crispy. All of the comfort food put us into comfort comas. The coffee was nice and hot, and we wolfed the food down quickly. Service was friendly and fast. Parking is free off to the side in their own lot. Seems like a lot of regulars come here. Prices were reasonable. $80 including a hefty tip for four meals and three coffees.

Had a super breakfast. Vegetable egg white omelette was so good. Came with nicely prepared potatoes. Also sky a short stack of wonderful buttermilk pancakes. Service was efficient. Ambiance is a throwback with 70's music. Love this place.

The food and service was exceptional! Pleasant atmosphere, with fast service. Plenty of easy parking. We had to wait a few minutes for a table.

Radio was loud rock. Potatoes were way too salty. Waitress had the personality of a dinosaur. Overpriced. Other than that it was average.

A little pricey. My omelette was greasy. Everyone is nice and the food is ok. I think they need to reduce the carbs and grease.

Although it is clearly a beloved neighborhood cafe, our experience did not shine as bright for us as we had hoped. A fun twist of events we actually had an "Aunt Judy" sighting while we were dining. She popped in briefly, was immediately greeted by the locals and disappeared as quickly as she arrived. It added a personal touch and put a face to the place. Adorned in Phillies regalia Aunt Judy's shows the marks of years of patronage. The creaky floors, chipped paint and well worn furniture show this place is a staple of the community and definitely well loved by the locals The food was only average and the service although friendly lacked the attentiveness we typically experience eating out. While I am glad we got to check it out, I'm doubtful we will make the trip to visit again. Judging by the steady stream of regulars it will be there for years to come.

We arrived around 9:10 p.m. There was only one table in the dining room, and they left shortly after we were seated. Only one other table came in while we were there, yet it still took nearly 10 minutes to find someone to seat us. We ordered two Steak Frites--one medium and one well done. Unfortunately, the medium steak came out rare, and the well-done steak was closer to medium. The garlic sauce was only lukewarm, not hot, and both steaks were tougher and fattier than expected. While our waitress was friendly, the overall service felt disorganized and inattentive, with staff seemingly stretched thin and focused on tasks other than guest care. Another group also struggled to get seated, and basic service details--like checking on tables or refilling drinks--were overlooked, leaving us feeling largely ignored throughout the meal. After seeing how undercooked my steak was, I decided I didn't want another one. Instead, I reordered the BBQ burger. Unfortunately, it didn't arrive until my spouse had completely finished eating. The burger itself was just okay, but the frizzled onions were extremely stale, and the bacon was overcooked, with parts of it burnt. To their credit, management removed the Steak Frites from our bill and gave us 50% off the burger, which we appreciated. However, for the prices they charge, the overall quality of the food and service simply didn't justify the cost. They also charge a surcharge on top of that if you use a credit card. Tipping should reflect the quality of service provided, and in this case, the experience did not meet expectations. If you're going to remain open until 9:00 p.m. and later, there should be enough staff and experienced kitchen personnel to provide the same level of service guests would expect earlier in the evening. Overall, this visit fell far short of our previous experiences. We left disappointed and hoping this was just an off night, but based on this experience, it's difficult to recommend.
