Thanks to Crossfit Downey!
Danny A.

I find myself mostly talking about CrossFit now so I figured I would write a review for CrossFit Downey. At 32 I decided that It was time to change. I got tired of not being able to fit into cool shirts or I was always worried that my man boobs were protruding too much! I did some research and I found CrossFit. It really interested me and I decided to give it a try. Living in Long Beach and working in City Of Industry I decided to find something in between work and home. I found CrossFit Downey and gave them a call. I first talked to Oscar and he seemed like a really easy going guy, made me feel comfortable and excited about attending the "newbie class" to my surprise when I did show up for the newbie class my good friend Wally also showed up! To sum up my first work out, all I could say was holly crap!!! I had never been worked so hard in 12 minutes! maybe in the Marines but that was over 10 years ago! My friend Wally and I were hooked after our first work out. It has been 3 1/2 months since I first started and so far I have significant results! Check out my 3 month progress pic that I posted. I have lost 29lbs and I can comfortably fit into a Large size shirt and 36 inch waist pants are loose! 34's will button up but I am not into the whole skinny jeans look! One bad thing about CrossFit is that It is going to be very expensive to replace my wardrobe :) Good thing I like to shop! (I get that from my mom) To sum it up, I love CrossFit Downey!! Oscar and Diana are great people. They both love Crossfit and it shows. They go out of their way to make sure you are doing the movements correctly to avoid injury. The atmosphere at CFD is another reason why I love going to work out. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming! They are all like a family to me now. If you are in doubt try it out, you will like it! They scale the workouts to everyone's ability, there are people from all age ranges working out together. Hope to see you at CrossFit Downey soon! Questions?

CrossFit is no joke! It started off with cardio and then proceeded with high intensity circuit training. I have been out for a cool minute because of a wrist surgery and slowly but surely I will lift heavy again. I'm super proud of myself that I have decide to enlist here because it's definitely not like any other basic boring gym with a bunch of machines.

Before and after pic.

In the new box, I'm pretty much RX'ing in every WOD and I know if I was at CFD, I would be the last person to RX in a WOD.

The coaches pay attention to your individual strengths, limitations, and goals instead of taking a one size fits all approach. I have an old knee injury that flares up, and they always help modify movements so I could still safely strengthen the same muscle groups without making the pain worse. All coaches do a great job of making fitness feel approachable instead of overwhelming. I've tried other private gyms in the area before, and the environment here feels completely different. The owners, Coach Ray and Coach Anna, are wonderful to work with and have created such a positive environment for everyone there. The atmosphere is comfortable, encouraging, and never intimidating. All of the members are kind, welcoming, and supportive of one another. The workouts are challenging in the best way, the classes go by fast, and the environment makes it easy to keep showing up. I can't recommend this place enough.

The trainers have been great and helpful. The class is designed to accommodate both beginners, like myself and for the more experienced personnel as well. I have started to lose weight and have started to feel stronger. I highly recommend joining this fitness family club to anyone that is just beginning or have already been training for years.

I love being corrected when my form is off. I am big on making sure that I am not getting injured. Facility is clean and spacious. From the moment you sign up to their free intro class you feel so welcomed. Everyone talks to everyone. I don't think I have yet to meet a rude person. I purchased the unlimited package so I had access to the open gym which is open 24 7! The two cons I have is that there aren't that many morning classes. They have 5:30 am and 8:30 am, but they do have a ton of evening classes. I highly recommend taking classes with Christian O., especially if you're new. He does a great job at explaining the workouts beforehand and going around the class to make sure you're doing the exercises right. He is so patient. The other con is the parking. It can be a bit tight, but I just go early so I don't have to stress about it. The classes are worth it! If you've been wanting to try CrossFit but feel intimidated give Backyard CrossFit a try!
