Ceiling it literally falling on you
    Jeffrey P.

there is always someone filimg, and you'll be in the background of their videos and they don't bother to get your consent. Apparently you're allowed to use as many pieces of equipment as you want. People don't clean they're sweat off the machines. If you're filming or if you're a trainer, you're allowed to kick people off at anytime. Trainers are rude. Broken Equipment goes weeks with out it being fixed and the ceiling IS LITERALLY FALLING ON YOU.

When I tried approaching him via text

First off this review is solely in regards to "personal trainer" Matt Diaz and has nothing to do with the gym environment and other staff. Where do I begin, I wish I can give zero stars.. Matt claims to be constantly having deals and promotions so when you sign up with his "deal" you honestly get what you pay for. Cheap trainer cheap training. He checks your weight and doesn't even consider checking body fat. Then days later after beginning gives you the lamest meal plan that seems like he typed in 2 minutes. As far as my training it was at 5am and he would show up till 5:30 or even later. He had the worst attitude and was so unprofessional. It wasn't one on one training he would just tell u what to do and be on his phone texting or on Instagram 90% of the time. I even tried approaching him about it before it became a problem via text and he was so quick to defend his position. He throws in your face that ur getting the deal of a lifetime, so I don't understand why he gives deals if he just lowers the value of training. I even recommended 3 friends because he said he would give me a month free. I'm beyond disappointed. All I needed was motivation and he did not deliver. Do not train with Matt Diaz, My friends are upset, my roommate quit with him, I have warned you all.. HUGE MISTAKE! I do not understand why he has such good reviews maybe he offers discounts for reviews on Yelp.

He's always encouraging and motivating and pushes you to be your best. He greets everyone he encounters, and knows everyone's name. This Norwalk location is the flagship gym, and the first to open of the three locations. I've worked out at all locations, and they are great. All of the trainers are fantastic humans! They have the best energy, play great music, and train us very well. I seriously haven't met a trainer I didn't like. Actually, I take that back. When I first started, there was a crazy trainer, but he didn't last and I never saw him again. That's one the best things about SUF, they'll get rid of bad energy and focus on the good. I've joined every weight loss program, gym, boot camp, out there... you name it, I've tried it. None have ever compared to the quality of SUF. I've never been so successful at losing weight, gaining muscle, losing inches, losing fat, in my life! In one year of consistent workouts and counting calories and macros, I've lost over 40 lbs and kept it off. I've dropped 8 dress sizes and it keeps dropping! The difference with SUF and any other program I've done, is that the people care. Not just the employees, but the like-minded friends I've made. Everyone is there, cheering you on, when you think you can't possibly lift any heavier, squat any lower, they're all there, cheering you on. It's amazing! If you join the Elite program, you get access to a nutritionist, or food police, as we call her, who helps you figure out what to eat and what not to eat. The gym also offers a food prep service and it's also amazing! I used it my first 3 months there, until I got the hang of it and was able to prep on my own. At the end of the day, YOU, are accountable for your own being, and YOU, have to want it, in order to stay focused and determined. But, I will tell you, the amount of support you get at Straight Up Fitness, is unlike any other around. Worth every penny, if you a Reach out with questions, and I'll happily answer, from my own experience. If you're in search of looking your best and feeling your best, ever, come to SUF. But be aware of his true feelings about overweight people per his email: The following email sent Michael@straightupfitness.com from @StraightUpFitness and its owner Michael Duivis on October 11, 2022 at 9:34:03 AM PDT "Every time I see overweight realtors win 'awards' for how much they sold, I can't help but think... 'They could've done so much better'. If you're fat overweight, blood flow is being restricted throughout your body. Especially in your brain. This messes with your decision making and mood control. Imagine these realtors quit the El Pollo Loco and Portos. Start tracking calories. Less wine. Less mixers. 10k steps a day." They'd lose weight Their mood & mental clarity would go up. And they'd become the 'top producer' among 'top producers', collecting all those awards-that-look-like-Oscars. Now I know most realtors don't need help (they're doing good already, in their BMW's, red bottoms, etc). But if I'm listing my house. And all else is equal. I'm going with the one that's in shape. How you show up is half the battle. And that's regardless of what you do for a living." These comments are utterly despicable. Listen, I get it. You line your pockets by encouraging people to become healthier and lose weight. I do not disagree with that goal. I myself am on that road. But to demean people's intelligence and insinuate that those of us that are obese are unsuccessful, have poor judgment, and suffer uncontrollable mood swings is not the way to attract people to your business. Plus you just exude the same ugly hate that bigots spew. Replace "in shape" in your statement with white, straight, male, or whatever category you want and it just demonstrates why society continues to be plagued by hate. If anything, this email shows is that you Mr. Duivis have the poor judgment. And before you go dismissing me as some bitter fat guy, I'd like you to know that I managed to graduate college with honors, did an internship at The White House, studied at Oxford University in England, graduated from law school, passed the California state bar exam, have traveled to over 50 countries, have hosted a radio show for the last two decades. and have been helping the marginalized of the world for the last twenty years as an attorney. And I did all of that weighing well north of 300 lbs. And I am proud of all I have done and who I am, every single 475 pounds of it! And like me there are many many successful overweight people out there, like Southern California's very own Gabriel Iglesias

Quick shoutout to Diego, David, and Herbert for always being great! The space itself is really well put together and has a great vibe that actually makes you want to work out. I think this gym…read morehas a ton of potential of being okay to great, but it starts with the owners (which I believe in them - and I'll get to that later. Given that I've been a member for quite some time, I've observed so many things about this gym: the good, the not so ok Let's start with the good: - Equipment: Definitely top notch equipment - Outdoor Area: I didn't like it at first, but once you start going every so often you just get this different energy (plus we need more Vitamin D!) - Innovative: This gym is growing; I remember when it was just two workout areas, now expanded to 5 total as well as a sauna (free), a barbershop, a soon to be coffee shop, and a recovery room (additional pay). Oh and pilates! The not so ok: - Turnover: There's been a high turnover of employees, and I think this is where it starts with the owners. Granted, the owners from what I'm noticing are learning and they're only going to get better. But I feel like there's been a high turnover in the last year and a half so that says something. - Lack of Communication from Higher Ups: Again, every time I would speak to a worker, they know nothing about what's happening to the gym. As if, the gym is kept top secret. I just feel like there's a disconnect there, and should have more transparency with the owners and to the employees. - The vibe is preference. Some may like it some may not. I liked it at first, but recently it's starting to give me that 24 hour fitness vibe or EOS (used to be golds in Cerritos) vibe with "influencers" shirtless left and right filming. Filming is OK at this gym so they're setting the standard for that. But, I guess it just makes it awkward for someone like myself if I'm in someones film unintentionally. It's like I need to cater my workout so they can get the best footage. - I think for the price now ($179) they should serve towels, probably do better on maintenance like their drinking fountain, and heck even offer free pilates. If you think about it, club studio and other gyms are in this price range and all the classes are free. So maybe there's something to explore there I'm unsure. But if we're looking at the competitive landscape, at $179, there has to be some form of distinguisher, and top notch equipment can't just be it. Also, going back to employees. David here has been the longest one and I feel like this guy should have some form of ownership, or promotion. This was the only guy in my 1 and half years of being here that went above and beyond at the front desk. I remember he was genuinely concerned about my overall being (had surgery), and gave me options (freezing my account) before even closing it. Every other front desk is just "hi" "bye" "I don't know." But this guy really cares about the customers at the gym. And to the owners, you guys are trying I see that. And I can definitely see you guys improving and making adjustments. Just recently, you closed all membership, and that's because you want to make some changes for the better. I really do hope this gym continues to get better. But for me, the chapter has ended! Thanks All One!

For myself, at this time I have had nothing but friendly, and positive experiences…read more I reached out to this location to ask about pricing details aside from what I can learn online. I was curious about month to month commitments vs. annual as well as what the child care is like. I have learned this location is also the only crunch location in the county that has child care. Plus for my case. The employee who answered was helpful to her ability and passed me onto the GM , Lia/Leah? (Sorry for incorrect spelling) who could get down to specifics for me. She answered all my questions, we decided to schedule my visit for next morning to tour and ask any further questions. Overall I was decided after the phone call Becuase of the info I was provided about pricing, and maintenance fees, when they start, all the necessary cost info I needed was given during the phone call and again in person. With that, I appreciated the transparency and clarity of all cost related aspects and benefits included, as well as options to upgrade in the future. As I went in to the location today, brought my kiddos to check out the child care space I was greeted by an employee at the front desk. I think his name was Juan - if I'm wrong I apologize! He was prepared to give me a tour, was courteous to my kids and was efficient in connecting me to Lia in person. Again, we went over the mtm vs annual commitments, cleared up pricing concerns and options. Overall I was decided after the phone call day before, but to be reassured in person was worth my time. My kids got to meet Miriam? Daytime kid club care provider. That was fun for us all, she is experienced, and it is clear she genuinely enjoys what she does. Good for all of us parents to feel at ease even leaving kids with another care giver knowing you are in the same building as your kids during your work out. So far so great is all I have to share. I felt Lia was also genuinely helpful in my sign up. I've joined various gyms over the years and have experienced plenty of good and bad service/sales sign ups. I know plenty of people when looking for a gym hate the process because it feels like sales, but I mean you know it is so going into a gym membership you have to be realistic. It is a commitment and you're making an agreement for financial obligation so members have to be responsible in asking all the questions so they don't 'feel blindsided' about cost and when money is deducted. Personally I appreciate those who perform sales in a way where they share as much info as possible, then leaving me with minimal questions. Here, I was happy how my interactions went from beginning to end so before you steer away based on negative reviews maybe make time for yourself to go in person, ask to speak to the right people - like a GM- a small price for you to pay going into for a short while to know what you're Getting into. Especially if you could have an experience like mine. Looking forward to spending time at my new home away from home! Thanks to the team so far!
