I have been attending classes for about 2 months. Total of 20 Burn Classes and 1 Crossfit Class. Coaches are all great! So helpful and great demeanors. I love being corrected when my form is off. I am big on making sure that I am not getting injured. Facility is clean and spacious. Parking is plentiful if you cant find any there is street parking close by. I am new to CrossFit and I absolutely love this gym! The community is something else! They are supportive, considerate, and super friendly. From the moment you sign up to their free intro class you feel so welcomed. Everyone talks to everyone. I don't think I have yet to meet a rude person. I purchased the unlimited package so I had access to the open gym which is open 24 7! The two cons I have is that there aren't that many morning classes. They have 5:30 am and 8:30 am, but they do have a ton of evening classes. I highly recommend taking classes with Christian O., especially if you're new. He does a great job at explaining the workouts beforehand and going around the class to make sure you're doing the exercises right. He is so patient. The other con is the parking. It can be a bit tight, but I just go early so I don't have to stress about it. The classes are worth it! So, I came across Backyard CrossFit due to my home gym in DTLA closing at the end of this month. My friend and I dropped in for their Wednesday evening Fit N Peachy class which was taught by Coach Hector. We also met Jose, the owner of the gym. Tbh, I was a bit cranky when I showed up as I had to drive through awful LA traffic to get there. However, Jose and Hector's warm and welcoming demeanor immediately assuaged my irritability. The class was intense in just the right way, and it was very clear Hector is very knowledgeable about lifting weights and using proper form. I really appreciated the words of encouragement and how he was constantly watching out for members to make sure they were using proper form to prevent injuries and make efficient use of the movements. Additionally, the gym had a completely separate area for open gym from the group workout room. As someone who also likes to workout on his own, this was an additional boon to the already great classes and coaches the gym offers! AND, the open gym is open 24 hours! How dope is that?? Alas, I live just a tad too far for it to become my new third space! But, if you live near the area, I HIGHLY recommend this gym! You can immediately feel the sense of community when you arrive! I was in the area while my husband had to be down in SoCal for work. I attended a Monday morning 8:30 class and a Thursday morning 5:30 class. Both Daniel and Jose were great coaches. The athletes in both classes were super friendly and welcoming. Great space to train. Super cool that the members have 24/7 access and there is a separate area for those doing their own programming so they don't have to mingle with classes going on. My husband and I have been members for 6 months now. We went from doing no physical activity to now looking forward to lifting weights four times a week. Its pretty insane how much we've changed physically and mentally in 6 months -- all due to Backyard Crossfit. We had been members at 24 Hour Fitness for over 6 years, but we've never achieved the fitness that we have now, nor was it ever as fun. It sounds dramatic, but the truth is that this gym and its coaches changed our lives. Even though I wanted to try Backyard Crossfit, I was so intimidated by what the internet told me about Crossfit, WODs, and weights that it took me two years to gain enough courage to reach out for an intro session. I kick myself thinking of how much time I wasted. Nothing was actually as bad as I'd heard. There was one older review on here that said the workouts were so hard that she threw up! Let me clear the record by saying that I've never felt nauseous. Not even a little. Its just a gym, like any other gym, where your workout is dictated by how much you want to put in to it. There is never any pressure to go harder or heavier than you feel is right. There are modifications and various weight levels for every movement that the coaches always go over at the start of each class. And truly, the magic of this gym lies in its coaches. Each coach is beyond incredible. It feels like they care about every member, in every class. Not one coach has ever made me feel dumb or made me feel like Im wasting their time when I needed extra coaching on a movement, which has been a lot (special thanks to Coach Daniel). I feel like they all want me to succeed, but arent rushing me to get there. Their gym's motto "Trust the Process" perfectly reflects their tone of coaching. I whole-heartedly recommend you try this gym if you want to get fit. Its not going to happen overnight. You'll have to put in the work during class, but at Backyard Crossfit you're set up for success: You have the safety net of coaches who are rooting for you to succeed; You're given the confidence of knowing that your learning the correct techniques; and lastly, the workouts are plain darn fun! read more

After day one my body was overwhelmed. Saul got me going on the first day, no pressure whatsoever. Just do what I can and find out where I am. He warned me I would be extremely sore. That i was! Day 2, 4 days later due to my inability to move cause i felt a truck hit me. I was back at it this time at a cross fit class and not a burn class. Again no pressure, I'm sure people where laughing at me in their head but they're words were all totally positive. Day 3 my body is getting used to the activity not so sore anymore. I reached that second wind stage. Daniel reminded me that having someone push a little gets me motivated. He saw i was exhausted and said, "Just push for one more set!" I did two more. The place is great. The energy is wonderful, the trainers are really good, and the other people working out are funny and motivating. I'm going to be coming here a lot. read more

Definitely the best CrossFit gym i have attended. Coaches are rigorously trained and certified. They are genuine people who put dedication, discipline and most important love at what they do. Backyard CrossFit has a wide variety of coaching styles and classes. If you are looking to start somewhere and don't know how or feel intimidate try taking their "BURN" class in which is more aerobic/cardio. Burn class is a stepping stone where you start being introduce to movements and proper forms that you will see in their CrossFit classes. Also Backyard has incorporated specific type of classes ex. "PUMP" & "STRENGTH". For all you ladies or man too! who are looking/focusing on upper/lower body or i mean booty LOL, PUMP class will be idea for you. Not to mentioned Backyard expertise will always be CrossFit. In addition, there will not be a GOOD WORKOUT with the proper NUTRITION. Backyard has not forgotten that nutrition is the KEY to your success in your "WOD" (workout of the day). Backyard guides you with your nutrition goals which could be lowering your body fat to building muscle or even maintaining your current weight. Personally i have benefit and learned a lot from this resource . I've learned that there is not a perfect nor single type of diet/s that are sustainable. A hidden gem in the city of Montebello. Coming from an individual whose had a few memberships usually at big box gyms and some small chain gyms, never have I received the utmost attention and direction when it comes to weight lifting and other exercises. All of the coaches here are incredibly professional and are there to help you succeed. When I first joined I had no knowledge about Crossfit or what to expect when I first joined. The coaches broke down each exercise step by step to ensure I was doing it correctly, and worked with me patiently until I was able to get there. They have many classes which offer different types of workouts, my personal favorite was the Burn class. The classes are tailored to meet everyone's individual needs and it meets them where they are in their fitness journey. You can be seasoned athlete or someone just starting off. After a few sessions at Backyard Crossfit, I googled "why are buff people so nice?"... but didn't find any meaningful authority to support my hypothesis. But really, all of the trainers I've worked with so far are very nice people on top of being very knowledgable and helpful/good explainers etc. I like that--although they're supportive and motivational--the trainers don't scream or get all up in my face and pushy, because if I want to squander my money, stay chubby, and not take advantage of this opportunity: that's my pedo. Also, I'm no expert, but the facility and equipment appear more than adequate. There is a range of skill levels and the opportunity to modify workouts to meet your novice to expert needs. There might be more to say, but you should prob. just experience it for yourself. read more

I have been going to this box for a little over 2 years. For me personally it's been a diffident life changer. The knowledge these coaches bring is far beyond what I expected. Crossfit is intimidating sport. Fortunately here these coach encourage you and help you through the transition to crossfit. Each coach brings there personal touch which helps when going to different classes.They encourage every level from beginner to Rx athletes. They are very flexible and easy talk for Q and A you would have. Coming here you'll be easily expected and encouraged which is amazing once you start some of the tougher Wods. The most important thing I've seen is the staff and coaches truly care about there members and want them to succeed in whatever goal each member has.
