Let me repeat myself for those of you who didn't catch it. THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS. While relatively happy at my previous gym in Memphis, I left after Greg Glassman's racist rant did not compel them to de-affiliate from Crossfit, as many gyms had done. I searched Google to find a gym in the Memphis area who had de-affiliated, and SilverBull was the only one. Furthermore, it is the only minority owned Crossfit Gym in Memphis, which is made better because of the People of Color in it. So, really, SilverBull Fitness was my only option. It was a God moment for sure because it ended up being the gym of my dreams in every way. I wanted a gym and community that reflected my values. I honestly hit the jackpot. Our gym has the most diverse community of members I have ever seen. Black, brown, gay, older, younger...you name it. CrossFit has gotten a lot of bad press for being a notoriously white sport. SilverBull Fitness is the future of this sport. Silverbull Fitness is what Crossfit really looks like. The members are the funniest, warmest, kindest, most brilliant people I've ever met. Worried about a cold atmosphere where you get judged by a bunch of shirtless bros when you walk in? 100 percent does not happen here. All fitness levels, all love, all encouragement. 5:30 am loves 5:30 pm. We all genuinely get along and everyone knows everyone. And finally: our owner and coaches. I have made more progress here in three months than I have in my entire two years and some change of doing Crossfit. I am stronger, faster, fitter, mentally and physically tougher, and more in love with this sport than I have ever been. Ahmed (our owner and head coach) knows his stuff. His programming is epic, he is helpful and attentive, and is my favorite person to roll my eyes at when he pushes me to be better. Kathleen is compassionate, patient, and now one of my dearest friends. Her laugh is hysterical. She always has a smile on her face and is my favorite person to try to beat in workouts. I could write a book about this gym and the magic that it brings to my life every day. Truly. When I come to Silverbull, I am home. I know without a doubt that when you do, you will be home too.

They have gear for everyone, except the hardcore powerlifter (meaning no 100 lb plates, jack racks, platforms, bar jack for deadlift loading, competition bench, or chalk stand.) They DO have squat racks, Smith machines, flat and incline benches, a range of dumbbells up to 140 lbs, and an array of basic HammerStrength machines. The bonus for me is that they have FreeMotion machines, which are the bomb for plane-and-range-of-motion training. They've also got assorted tubing, medicine and stability balls, and Bosus. In case someone from DAC reads this, it would be super-cool if you could install a TRX rack or two. Approximately half the work-out space is devoted to cardio machines, and there's an upstairs where classes are held. I always thought DAC was great for families. It's located at Cox Park where the baseball and soccer fields are. So, it's convenient if the family is involved in those activities as well. However, they do not have a pool; nor do they have a sauna, steam or whirlpool. No big deal for me, but some people demand those things.

The facility hosts a full-sized youth indoor football field, complete with astroturf and yard line markers. A weight area completes the arena, and Ortho facility is next door for physical therapy or to treat sports injuries. The paper towels in the restroom were difficult to find- they are enclosed in a white trim shelf, and pop out from the bottom.

It really makes me feel like I'm part of the family and cared about. I have to say the challenges really keep me active and working hard throughout the year. If they didn't have them every couple of months I would not be as consistent or motivated to go all the time. I also LOVE they have showers. Before coming to Zen a couple of studios I tried out did not offer that, which didn't give me the option to take morning classes right before work. If I worked from home it wouldn't be as big of a deal, but having to go into the office every day I love I have the option to work out before or after work. 10/10 love this place and everyone I've met there!

I love the instructors (inspirational!) , the playlists (fun but explicit), the encouragement and support of the other members... all of it. Stats are updated in real time on the monitor and allow you to see how hard you pushed yourself via the app following the class. Despite the concerning start, I did sign up for a membership and I love attending CycleBar. With a few tweaks, other (potential) members will feel more at ease, increasing sign ups!
