You've seen it on TV, you've heard about it, and you want to try it. It's the new craze of working out, Crossfit that everyone is telling about and gyms are popping up left and right as trainers rush to open a "box" and make a quick buck.
So what makes one gym better than another? Simple, it comes down to the training and passion of the trainers to see you succeed, push yourself harder and most importantly make sure you don't hurt yourself. Crossfit West Cobb has one of the best trainers in the world, don't believe me? Dan Petro, Trainer/Owner of the gym recently ranked number 4 in the region and 16th in the world during the crossfit open. To put it in perspective there were about 80K people that participated in the open workouts.
I followed him from another local gym and waited the 3 or so months it took him to open his "box" because of his training. This is a guy that after class was done would run (actually at the time it was a shuffle, try to breathe, maybe jog) a 400 meter with me to help get my cardio up. Notice I said after class, he didn't have to do it but he did it over and over until I could run the whole thing . He is an all around great guy and you can always count on him to give you a great workout and nutrition advice.

So let's get into the gym, this isn't LA fitness, there aren't any fancy machines, zumba classes, or people doing sit-ups in the squat racks. Everything in the gym is designed for functional movements to get you in shape quickly, get you the toned body you crave and allow you to function better in your everyday movements. You just have to put in the work. Everyone in the gym is willing to help and push each other, egos are checked at the door in this "box" and you have all level of fitness in attendance. Depending on your fitness level the workouts will be scaled at first allowing you to learn the movements safely but don't worry you will get one of the best workouts of your life in a shorter amount of time you than you ever imagined possible. You will fall over and lie in a pool of your own sweat and chalk trying to catch your breath and when you do, you'll want more.
From there you can dive further into the "box" lifestyle, with nutrition advice many of us do Paleo or Primal. To competitions on the weekend, learning about locally grown foods and CSA's, and so on, it's up to you!
Finally the main concern, is it expensive? That's all relative, my wife and I are not rich by any means and crossfit does cost a good bit more than your local 24 hour fitness and such and we had to cut out some expenses to afford it. But it's worth every penny, especially when you think about your long term health, fitness and body composition goals and realize YOU are worth it. read more
