I visited CrossFits EX to get information before starting a free session. My experience in the past with Crossfit is that they are very picky as to your fitness level, so I wanted to make sure this was a welcoming place for beginners. The person who greeted me informed me that the classes were for all fitness levels and it is for all ages. I was told to come with my daughter, who they also said was welcome, so that we could try it out. Once I got to the class, we were separated from the other class members (was told classes were at your pace) in a private session. In the end, I was told my daughter, who is turning 12, was too young and could only do private sessions, and I should also do private sessions for at least 6 classes (for us both, this would be over $160 a session). I see they have happy customers, but I am sure they all must have come in fit or done their private sessions as suggested. I would not recommend this place if you are starting your fitness journey. You can get private training at a gym and some of the more beginning-level-welcoming CrossFit gyms. If CrossFit is your sport of choice and EX is the closest to your house, I am sure they will welcome you in once you are all fit and ready for their classes. If you are searching for box to join, transfer to, or just drop in like I did, look no further. This place is great. I am an experience 'CrossFitter' and have dropped in to other places while travelling, and I have never felt as welcome as I did here. Gordon the owner/coach and all of his staff were knowledgeable, helpful and made everyone there feel awesome. I dropped in four days in a row and even did Yoga for the first time after the WOD on the fourth day. The facility is a good size, certainly not tiny, but not too open/big. Stop looking!!! So I began my fitness journey July 2011 and it was a hard one. However after loosing my desired weight on my own I decided I wanted & needed something more. My very first day I was extremely scared because of all the different stories I have heard about CROSSFIT in general. However to my amazement this 'BOX" was very welcoming not just the trainers but the people were very friendly and helpful. After a week I felt right at home because I learned that it didn't matter which fitness level you were on....everyone struggles the same. Wow! I took my first ever Cross Fit class today and I feel AMAZING, Sore, but amazing :) My boyfriend has been going here for the past couple of months, and he has gotten such great results! I have such a hectic work schedule, that I was only able to come today because I had the morning off, and I am so glad I tagged along! Gordon is the bomb.com, seriously he's such a cool guy and makes everyone feel comfortable no matter what their fitness background is. The people that go here are so energetic and supportive and it makes it such a great environment to achieve your fitness goals. When I saw the board of the warm-up and WOD, I did not think I was going to finish, but with everyone's great energy and Gordon's awesome coaching, I not only finished, I did some great moves I never thought I could do! I think it's called the ring jump, I don't remember, but I did it, and I didn't fall on my face, that's a win to me! I will for sure be back next time I have a day off! read more

I began my fitness lifestyle as a kid playing several different sports. Into high school, college and post graduation I've maintained this healthy lifestyle. I've always found myself seeking even more challenging fitness routines and constantly seeking to change it up. That's what brought me to Crossfit and specifically to Crossfit EX. I really wanted to take on an intense workout at a place that offered excellent coaching, encouragement and community. I guess that's what Crossfit is all about, however now having dropped in to several Boxes across the country I know not all are created equally. Gordon, the owner of this box, is very knowledgable and adapts his coaching to meet each athlete where they are on their fitness journey. His goal is to help each athlete meet their goals and also minimize injury by teaching proper techniques, explaining the why behind each movement or grip, and monitoring progress to help set attainable goals. He strikes a unique balance between encouragement and challenge. Far more than that he is incredibly funny, witty, cultured and realistic. He is very intentional on creating a solid community among the athletes and to be quite honest it genuinely feels like a family. Which is quite important and refreshing for someone like me who has no family in the state. The other athletes in this box are nothing short of awesome. They are all around wonderful people and I know with great certainty so many of them will be my lifelong friends. I found Crossfit EX on Wodify while I was in the area for military training. The owner Gordon Jackson was very welcoming and made arrangements with me in order to work out at Crossfit EX for the few weeks I was in the area. His only request was that I immerse myself in the community and enjoy myself while I was there. The members and coaching staff were super motivational and friendly. If I lived in the area this would be my home gym. If you're in the area visiting or live there and are looking for a new gym I HIGHLY recommend Crossfit EX! I have been going here for a little over a year, at the time I was new to the area. I decided to join a Crossfit gym for a awhile and decided this would be the ideal time. Saw Crossfit ex advertising on groupon, gave it a try. It has turned out to be one of the best decision I have ever made. The workouts are great; the location is great, but what makes the experience great are the people. The owner and members are the best. Not pretentious, or judgmental at all. I was in from Chicago for the weekend, and I went to a Saturday class. This box was well organized, and the class was very challenging. The coach was very friendly, and he made it a point to welcome me into the class. The guys I worked with were also really welcoming. So, the Mr. and I decided we wanted to try CF after a year or so of considering it- and after seeing several couple friends of ours change their lives with it. We recently moved to the Smyrna area and pass by this location multiple times a day. Today, we finally went for our free first session and I am SO glad we did. We both hobbled out of there with a good workout and an excitement to come back! This is what we have been looking for. All the members we met are so nice and the coach, Gordon, was hilarious. He was just the right mix of business and fun to keep you motivated. We will be back and hopefully won't move again for a while! You should definitely give this gym a shot! read more

Excellent gym. I live in Texas and dropped in for the 10a Saturday WOD. Gordon, the owner and head coach, was unbelievably welcoming as were the other gym members. I was really blown away by how many people introduced themselves and engaged me in conversation. All skill levels were present at the workout and the gym was accommodating and encouraging to everyone. There seems to be an awesome balance between pushing athletes to be their best and helping to teach beginners so that they can reach their goals and be successful. The gym is spacious and the equipment is high end with plenty of gear to accommodate large classes. The energy was high, the WOD awesome and the people amazing - definitely the best drop in I've had. Without a doubt some great people and GREAT coaches. I live in South Florida and was in ATL for a work trip and needed a place to workout and do a qualification workout for a big competition here in Miami. Gordon was MORE than accommodating for me and welcomed me with open arms. I worked out twice at Crossfit EX in the 4 days i was in town and loved it. Everyone was great and the classes were ran well. I have been doing Crossfit for 3 years now and he mentioned most of his athletes were first timers, but you wouldn't have known with how well they were kicking it! I can't wait to see how far Gordon and his coaches take their athletes and will be calling it my out of town box for life! read more
