This was my first time visiting this restaurant. While the Venue is your typical family restaurant, don't let this be a deterrent for not visiting this place. Ordered Father's Day Dinner from this establishment and it turned out to be the worst idea ever. Called them to say I wanted to return everything and get a full refund. I was told not to worry about bringing the food back and to call the owner John Monday morning. I called Monday and left a message for John but as of now, 7:45pm, no call back. Was here yesterday after a 5 Hour drive from downstate. I showed up at around 5:00 (they close at 7:00 on Sundays). I used to frequent this place when I lived in the area 15 years ago. I originally thought they were short staffed because I saw two waitresses and nobody at the register and then I eventually did see an older man taking the checks so there really is no excuse for the poor service and barely acceptable food ordered. Apparently there is no seating order, you just walk in and sit wherever you like and whomever takes your order is a gamble. At least it was in my instance. One waitress had long blonde hair and seemed very pleasant to her tables. My waitress was not. She seemed clueless as to what came with sandwiches and dinners (patty melts and meatloaf). I was going to say something to the older man but just really wanted to leave. It's safe to say I'll never be back. read more

Here is my predicament. We like the hot sandwiches, and the kids meals are good portions. My husband and I liked it the first couple of times we went, then the third time, the elder woman (the owner) came over upon our arrival and started caressing my 2 year old and kissing his face. It was completely inappropriate, but I let it slide, thinking "she's from a different country, maybe this is a little more acceptable there." But then I went in today, just myself and my son for a post play date lunch. The owner came over when she first saw my son, while he was eating his grilled cheese and started petting his head again. I put my hand on the back of his head to try to give her the subtle hint to back away, and she pushed my hand away- TWICE, pushed MY OWN hand away from MY OWN sons head. Just then our waitress came over and said "mama, she doesn't want you to!" And pushed her hand away. She started walking away swearing at the waitress or at us, I'm not exactly sure. 2 minutes later, she returned- this time she sat at our table and started trying to HAND FEED my son!! I decided he was done with his meal at that point and got up and left. This is SO inappropriate. It really stinks because we liked this place. But now I don't think we will return, because I don't want my 2 year old touched and hand fed by some strange lady I don't know. I don't even let my own grandmother do that. Yikes. read more

Every time we visit our relatives in Lyons , we're from Syracuse , we make a point to eat at Cross Park Restaurant . Never disappointed ! I wish we had a restaurant in Syracuse that has as many options on the menu , that Cross Park has . Great food and service . It's a family restaurant. It says so in the name. If you go there and order prime rib instead of going to a steak house for prime rib, maybe you are the problem. Yelp is not a Michelin rating service here. It's Newark, NY, not Paris. Ate there yesterday on our way back to Rochester from antiquing in the area. It was excellent, great service, we had a fun and funny but not overly solicitous waitress, great food. Portions were good-sized, the waitress made good suggestions. Beer was cold, fries were good. Our family frequents CrossPark Restaurant because we love the Greek Chicken Salad and the Liver. We have also become friendly with a couple of the waitresses. They are very accomodating and nice. If you are looking for a 5 star Michellin restaurant, this is not it. HOWEVER, we do know some people who drive all the way from Skaneatles just to eat at CrossPark Restaurant! Wow! That's quite a drive! We plan on continuing to frequent CrossPark because it is the "Mom & Pop Shop" with many fond memories of giant Greek Chicken Salads with their signature dressing!! We celebrate a lot of family celebrations there. :-) Our daughter's in-laws always INSIST we eat at CrossPark, too. They are from Harriburg, PA, where there are loads of other restaurants to chose from..but they still love CrossPark food! read more

I come to Newark once or twice a month for work so I am familiar with the few establishments in this town. I drove by this diner and it looked nice relative to the area so I thought I would stop and try it for dinner. You walk in and the sign says please seat your self. You also see a case with desserts on individual plates wrapped in plastic wrap. They did not appear very fresh or appetizing. Service was quick to present two menus and bring us our drinks. The menu had the usual diner fare as well as some daily specials. There are mostly booths but there are about three tables in the back for those who prefer a table. It took a while for our food to come out and again, it was ok and what you would expect for an average diner. The decor, furniture and the plates definitely showed its age. You pay at the counter when done. Here's the major problem that I noticed on the way out. The bathroom. The most disgusting and toxic place I have ever seen in a restaurant. It is clear that the bathroom has not been cleaned in years! How is such filth acceptable in a restaurant? And if the staff/managers/owners are ok with this filth, what standards do they have in the kitchen?? I was completely grossed out and left nauseated all the way home. One one hand I was scared that perhaps I will vomit from food poisoning, but on the other hand, I was hoping to vomit so I can rid my body of the potential toxins. I really hope the health department reads this and inspects the facilities. In the mean time, I ask my fellow Yelpers to steer clear of a potentially dangerous restaurant. read more

This place has come a long way over the years! I never have an issue with service and their prices are decent. The quality of food has improved over the year, but I would recommend staying away from the seafood options. Anytime I've ordered seafood, the portions seem smaller and it seems not as fresh as other non-seafood meals I've had. Their wraps are delicious and I don't eat French fries, but I've been told their fries are amazing. I can tell you their sweet potato fries are delicious though. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because there isn't really anything "great" that stands out about it. I ordered a turkey dinner and a burger and fries and deep fried cauliflower. The turkey dinner was supposed to have a baked potato they decided that I wanted mashed. We didn't even get the burger and fries. Deep fried cauliflower was literally hard like it had been deep-fried set out for a while and then re-fry it again. She interrupted me repeatedly and was very rude on the phone when I tried to explain to her what was happening if you look on the menu just under their name On Google it says the deep fried cauliflower is $6.99I did find that in very small print at the very very bottom it says prices are subject to change they are now $9.99. she is refused to take the food back and give me my money the owner won't talk to me or call me like the employees promised that they would today they are thieves and I will never go there again and have you noticed when you go there there's no heat in the bathroom in the winter and no air-conditioning in the summer, Talk about cheap you either freeze or sweat your fanny off in their bathrooms! I can not warn you of not going there enough ! I stopped here for lunch at about quarter to two. You can seat yourself during slower hours, and when I went the two ladies who were serving were helpful and fairly friendly. The food came before long - a cheeseburger and fries - and was still hot. I was very satisfied with the taste and freshness of the meal. My only complaint is that my total was two bucks more than expected because that's how much it cost to add lettuce and tomato to my burger - which the waitress had specifically asked me about doing, but she'd failed to mention the high charge (I'd been prepared for a small fee for the veggies but I've never had it be a full dollar per item). All in all, I don't blame them but will certainly factor toppings into my bill calculations next time. The place is near my work, so while I have several other options in the area, I've liked the food at Cross Park F.R. the best and have returned several times. Except for one time when my juice tasted like bleach and soap, which they fixed once asked, eveeything has been great. We ordered 2 prime rib dinners one was medium rare, the other medium well. Server brings them out and they are both over cooked and tough. Told the server and she goes back to the kitchen and comes back to tell us the chef said that's the meat is already cooked and when they warm it up they won't be any different then what already being eaten. The dish was utterly disappointing, cooked with tiny tiny pre-packaged shrimps you get from walmart; looked nothing like how it was presented in their menu. Their portion is enough to feed me for the entire day, but I was looking for quality instead of quantity for a 13 dollar lunch. If I could leave no stars I definitely would. Tonight we went out to eat with my sister in law. The waitress was rude from the very beginning. Apparently the blonde waitress was taking all of her tables and she told us we are the last table she's serving and she's walking out. I felt bad for her honestly. Then when we weren't done ordering, she walks away. I'm like ok that's fine everyone has bad days. She got us our food and then never came back to check on us. Finally after waiting 40 minutes after we got done eating we went to the counter to get our bill since she never brought it over. I gave my fiancé my card to pay while I was using the bathroom. My card got declined, which all I had to do was go in my app and unlock my card. She got even more mad and it only took a second to unlock the card. I told her can you please run it again. She then yells at me and says it better not decline again because I'm wasting her time and she will get in trouble for running the card again. There was customers behind me waiting and people waiting to be seated that heard all of this. She ran the card and of course it got approved. She was very unprofessional and definitely not a people person. If she was so worried about getting in trouble then why was she talking bad about her co workers to customers? Saying the blonde was the reason Randi got fired etc. Also when we were eating the phone was ringing non stop. Our waitress told the blonde do not answer that phone we don't have time for that. I have been going to this restaurant for years but after having dinner there tonight it will be the last time. Over the past three years the food has gone from good to awful, my wife ordered sea food platter the sea food was so over cooked it was inedible. I ordered hot turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, the gravy was a yellowish tasteless yuk, there was no vegetable. The waitress didn't bring rolls and the coffee is terrible. They need to find a new cook that actually has some culinary skills. read more

The place was clean and the service was good and friendly. The price was okay. The reason I rated it so low (and actually considered a lower rating) is that they do not offer a senior citizen or military veteran discount. That may seem trivial, but "almost every other place" offers at least one of these discounts. This will factor into our next "where to go for food" decision. read more
