I'll be fair and say that they have a good selection of reasonably priced, in season items. That being said, the saleswoman told me I had until 8pm the next day to get my unsold clothes back, but when I returned less than 24 hours later, they had all been donated. I understand that the procedure is to donate if you do not make it back in time because I have sold with another location. However there is no reason they should have been donated the same day, 8 hours later at close, when I was specifically told to come back the next day. Super unprofessional on her part. read more

I come here to sell my clothes all the time. I usually receive decent amount of money back. Of course those clothes have to be in style. You get more store credit than cash. So you can choose either options. They resell some really cute dresses. Prices are about regular, not cheap like a thrift store but they are cute enough. Staffs here are friendly. I love this place. They have trendy clothes that fit well - I've gotten unique spins on trends each time I've come. The clothes aren't damaged. They organize by color which is helpful. I've found multiple cute dresses, shirts, a gorgeous maxi skirt & have almost always been amazed at how low the prices are for what I expect it to cost. Dresses here that were $10 or $20 (some nicer onces cost more but that's not the norm) would probably be $40-60 at stores like Urban. The people who work here are friendly and helpful too which is another plus. For guys, my friend found dress shoes that were from H&M for much cheaper and in good condition! So there's choices for both guys and girls. The place is tight and you really have to look through the clothes to find something that works - but that's thrift shopping. read more

5 stars at this location because the staff is absolutely wonderful. The thing about the Crossroads Trading Company is that they have new stuff come in everyday. I rarely walk out of there empty handed. Any time I've taken someone to one of these spots, they've left the store happy! See, people come in and trade old threads for cash or store credit and when merchandise is in the store for a certain period (i think it's two weeks), they cut the already low price in half so be prepared to browse or if you're in a hurry, just look up at the walls where they hang the higher end "cuter" stuff up. read more

Whenever rent day is looming and my pocket is feeling a little on the empty side, I comb through my wardrobe and head over to Crossroads. While I don't shop here (I'm far too lazy to pick through the racks, especially since all the black garments have already been picked over by my fellow monochrome-wearing hipsters). They give you a good amount of money for your garments (especially designer stuff- if you've found a Vivienne Westwood purse or garment here recently, it's probably mine), and they're friendly and helpful. The clothing selection was just OK, but today I snagged a super cute pair of leather pumps for $9. Like other people have said, it's hit or miss. The whole reason I'm writing the review is I think it's cool they donate money ($.05) to charity if you choose not to take a plastic bag. The best part is they give you a choice of who the money goes to -- this time it was Girls Rock! or Red Door Animal Shelter. I always carry a bag in my purse, and I'm happy when retail stores try to do their part to reduce the number of bags that will eventually end up in landfills and floating around the neighborhood. On multiple occasions I see the original price tag on items, and they have proven to be cheaper than the price Crossroads Trading tags them as. I went in the other day, they had an HM shirt with the original tag marked as $5.95, and they had marked it up to $6.50. If they want to rip customers off, they should be more careful on ripping off the tags first. I spent $25 bucks on two dresses and felt kind of ripped off for spending that much on 'thrift store clothes'. I usually spend $25 on 4 dresses when I go to the Salvation army, which has a ton more to select from. Also, don't bother trying to sell your clothes here. I have brought in a ton of designer clothing, like garbage bags full, and they never choose a single item. I would go some where else, and they would at least pick a couple items. Lincoln Park location is way bigger, better customer service, and more prone to buy your clothes. Needless to say, I will never go back nor recommend this place location to anyone. read more

Now.. I love thrifting. I LIVE for thrifting. But I'm a purist... I like to actually dig through good will, salvation army, savers.. the stank smell is part of the experience! In other words, I'm just cheap and prefer to pay baseline prices rather than go to boutique thrift stores. However, you can find a few things here and there. I've used Crossroad's in the past, and I dig the idea of exchange. Although my Chicago experience dumbfounded me. I'm moving across country in a few days and A) need some quick cash and B) don't have a lot of room in my Jeep. Something had to be done about it....so I slapped myself into check a few times and packed some of my designer jeans and Laundry dresses in a couple bags. The chica browsed my 7's, Rock & Republics, Diane von Furstenbergs- all FALL items mind you- and returned everything to me!! This insulted me and lead me to a borderline fit - i.e. that crazy girl with pink hair from VH1's Charm School with her UGGs. Yes, I'm perturbed, Yes, I feel devalued. I'm not gonna knock on the selection of trends coming in 'cause it's whatever we bring in really so who am I to complain. What I am going to have to warn you all about however is the counterfeit crap-like the purses. The counter people aren't trained to spot a fake from a real Kate Prada, Miu Miu or Prada so they let it hit the floor and some unassuming girl thinks she's got the sh*t bag for an awesome price. I took 3 bags worth of stuff there but after browsing the store i already new that they wouldn't take most of it. After living in Denver and close to Brooklyn, I was a Buffalo Exchange junkie. I went almost weekly and killed my budget. But here in Chicago, I find Crossroads the absolute best of the consignment/vintage in Wicker Park. I have not found anything worthwhile that was not absolutely ridiculous at Buffalo, but every time I have gone to Crossroads, I have found something great. The quality of the jean section is great, though not always wide. They have some great contributors and the people who select the clothes have great style. The one thing I wish they did differently was sort their shoes by size. It's really annoying to have to constantly pick up shoes and check the bottom to see what size they are. read more

My visits here haven't been stellar. Staff is rude and they have you waiting for fitting rooms and or to be rung up. One of the staff members CARRIE has ZERO personality and just seems like she does not want to be there. Great place to find jeans. I had purchased a pair of jeans at Urban Outfitters before passing by this place. I found pretty much the same pair of jeans plus two other pairs for less than the one pair at Urban (I of course promptly returned the pair from Urban). Yes, the jeans were used, but it was hard to tell. I've sold clothing/shoes at this location and the location on Clark. Sister and I visited a friend in Chicago and we made a killing in thrifting. We spent something like 2 hours in here in this ONE PLACE and got everything we wanted (me: shoes and business professional and nice dresses; sister: jackets, casual tops) for reasonable prices. Just watch out for those (really pretty) dresses that are new? and go for $30. Okay, okay, I take it back. Was waiting for my dance class to start, so I popped in here to kill an hour. REALLY pleasantly surprised! I got a really nice Banana Republic jacket, a Ralph Lauren wool sweater with the original price tag still attached, and a cardigan for $32. Not bad! Also, I like the fact that they usually have someone waiting at the fitting room area. They have some ok stuff. I saw some high quality designer labels that were cheap but you could tell it was second hand. Its alright, i'll definitly come here to sell my crap when I'm done with it. Nice selection of shoes though. I even saw a pair of Y3 kicks that would easily go for $250 here for $50. The t-shirts were mediocre at best but they had some really nice hoodies but they were either not my size or looked old. I don't know why someone said it stunk in here because it didn't at all. Sold my clothes here. Funnily enough, they took back the stuff I had bought from there originally. For $35 (selling price for three items), I got back $17.45. In gift certificate. This was a bad choice. I come here somewhat often and rarely come out with cute things. But the prices are so spastic ($20 for a F21 dress? you serious?) I rather just go to Village Discount. Not to mention if you aren't a size 0-6, you won't find much. Yes, that includes you, size 7/8 and 9/10. I had my first selling experience here the other day and it was quite pleasant. The store manager Botany was SO friendly and helpful I was kind of shocked seeing as this is a resell store! She answered all my questions thoroughly and patiently. I brought back my stuff the following day and they bought a lot of it! I was surprised that they didn't take some of my items, but she explained that they have a lot of basics right now and to try back in a few weeks or their other location. For how many items I sold it didn't seem like a ton of money that I got back, however, I was SO over all of these items that it was better than nothing. I plan on going back in a few weeks. I don't do much business here anymore. They don't buy as much as often, possibly because my style has diverged from what's mainstream and trendy. By the same token, I'm not as drawn to their selections as much as I once was, so any trade credit from here is more or less useless. There are still some nicely made things to be found, but too often I find thin, pilled clothing or plasticky junior items. The best items are put up out of sight and out of reach. It'd be nice if this store broadened its selection to attract a wider clientele. But they seem to know who they want to frequent the store. Boo! Is this a joke? I had a horrible experience while selling clothes here. I walked in fresh at 11- at the counter were two other customers ; the sales woman was chatting with them (meaning chatty= she knew them.) Not only was she rude enough to not say "Hello" Or "Give me one minute..." I was waiting there (shocked) until another sales woman came out from the back. It's pretty hard to not notice a customer as that store is very small. Plus she was about two feet away from me talking about what this couple did last night. I am so confused on bad customer service. Am I miss something? Lastly, because I was wasting even more time after waiting to be recognized, I didn't see what she had taken and not. It's just so ridiculous(I know I know you sell your clothes I get it.) The last time I was in Crossroads, there seemed to be plenty of happy people in line waiting to make their purchases. Unfortunately I have never really found a must-have item in this store. That's not where my low-rating comes from, however. The 2 stars comes from the one time I have been in there to sell anything. Needless to say, I don't think I ever want to go back. The girl who was "helping" me really didn't say much to me at all. There was absolutely no dialogue once she was ready to review my items. What REALLY surprised me was when she tagged one of my shirts and a pair of boots with price tags without saying ANYTHING to me. When she was done reviewing everything she called me over and told me the prices they would sell my 2 items for.. Then she sort of just haphazardly threw everything she didn't want back into the box I brought. Being a bit disgruntled at this point, I told them she could keep the shirt but I wanted to take the boots somewhere else since they were pretty expensive to begin with and had only been worn maybe twice. After waiting for her to peel off the price tags, I happily took my left-over items and went down the street to Buffalo Exchange. Guess what? At Buffalo Exchange, I got TWICE as much for the boots, they took A BUNCH of other stuff that seemed to be of no interest to Crossroads (though I couldn't tell you why since I was given no explanations), and the girl helping me was very sweet and personable. She explained: 1) what they were looking for in regards to current trends, 2) what has been selling well and 3) what they don't have a lot of in stock or have excess in and don't currently need. Then she was nice enough to actually tell me what they would sell each of my items for and if I was ok with those prices. Walking away with $45 bucks in your pocket that you didn't have before (as opposed to $4 from Crossroads) is not a bad way to spend your Saturday afternoon. Overall, everyone at Buffalo Exchange seemed really friendly and they made the whole process of selling items much more tolerable. I wish I could say the same for Crossroads. read more

They have used clothing that is very hand picked, with items for both men and women. The selection is fabulous, but the prices seem a wee bit high for used clothing. They sell stuff that is in really good condition, so you aren't likely to walk away with nappy clothing. A hot mess that you can't help but feel some affection for! I sold a lot of clothes at this location and got back a good amount in trade/cash value. I also got items that weren't mine back in my bag with my "rejected" clothes such as a used sports bra (I'm not sure what happened there...). I wasn't too impressed with the clothing selection that I saw for sale (target brands and Uniqlo) but mixed in I did find a silver tab denim Levi's dress for $18. There are some gems on the racks if you have the time to dig for them. I do wish the store would put a higher priority on staff and customer safety by limiting the number of customers inside during COVID. The store was packed and is very small; 6' of social distancing wasn't an option when I visited, especially for the poor employees who were sardined in behind the counter. read more

The notable thing about this store was the collection of shoes - one of the largest I've seen at a used clothing store. Quite a few pairs of flats (my work-shoe of choice). In general, clothing was organized by color and "type" (dress/shirt/etc.) so it was easy to quickly browse and find what you are looking for. Like all used clothing stores, it's hit or miss, but at least you don't have to waste a lot of time determining if it's a "hit" or "miss" day.
