As I looked at my closet, I realized how much dead space I had. Half of these clothes I no longer wore. Half were still in season or from last season and I thought to myself - what better way to get rid of them then to sell them to Crossroads, so glad I did.. I am really digging the Oakland Crossroads location! No funky smells, super organized, great selection and you don't feel super cramped in there. The store is pretty huge, located right on College ave., plenty of parking, cute boutiques and restaurants nearby. I have been to other Crossroads, and the staff here is pretty awesome! The ladies up front made my selling experience comfortable and seamless. They will even take the time to explain why they will not take your items. It takes a few trials and errors to get the process down right. Use their website and walk around the store as a guide to get a better idea of what they take. They look for stuff that is in season, some of my summer items they suggested I hold onto until summer. Don't bank on the idea that you'll get a ton of cash for selling old clothes though. Do NOT sell at this store: Came in for my first time, had over 4 huge bags of clothes. When the women starting going through my first bag I asked if I could go look around, I was looking for maybe 1 min! I came back to her saying they weren't going to take anything but thanks for trying us out. She said all my clothes were to much from " forever 21 and target" First of all how could you go through all 4 bags in less then a min??? And yes there were a few things from those stores. But half the bag were clothes I've never even wore shoes and clothes from Nordstrom's, Macy's and DSW ( would of notice if you took the time to go through the bags.) If you would of seen what they were taking from people before me, blows my mind! Some of the staff seemed kind of annoyed to have to be there and weren't very friendly, but it was also close to the end of the day so they might've just been tired. I'm not so sure I really love this whole selling thing. It's kind of annoying. So this is the second Crossroads I've been to, the first being in Irvine CA. I notice this is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more bay area. Much grungier, casual clothing. I could see more of my clothes selling here. But I must have misjudged because only one of my items sold. I thought I brought in some interesting pieces, but the piece that sold was flannel. (Surprise). The clientele is way more "Berkeley" and the clothing selection is less designer and more casual, which has its perks - lots of every day clothing - sweaters, jeans, etc, but very different from what it looked like they were buying. :/ The Irvine location was way more limited in its selection and had many more designer pieces. Not sure I'd be back. I came in on a Saturday about 4 PM and only waited about 15 minutes to sell. There were a number of individuals waiting to sell, but I spent my time browsing and easily killed the time. read more

My first visit to this location was a success! Both in terms of buying and selling. Location: there's a small parking lot adjacent to the store that they share with Nestle. Free for 30 minutes but I believe there's also street parking. The shop itself feels smaller than the others. Buying: I got great deals! Bought two men's shorts that were brand new with tags & they were Vans. Also bought a COACH backpack (the trendy kind)! Used store credit & paid the difference. Selling: they bought a good chunk of my items and the price was fair. It's standard but I definitely felt like thy were interested in trendy, different styles. Good experience! read more

They definitely need new management. The employees are always chatting and not attentive to the people that are in the store. I came in on a Monday. It was not busy at all. The buyer took around 2 hours to review the first persons items. I was number 3 in line. I waited for about 2 hours and 45 minutes and got super tired of waiting. No one is attentive. I wanted to sell a pair of jeans, the buyer rejected them because she has too many jeans on the racks. Mind you, I grabbed a pair from their racks with a personal stain to show them the type of products they're accepting. read more

Poor customer service and disrespectful. As a seller we take the time to wash our clothes, iron and pack them neatly and take the time to assure none of our items have spots or holes. First you are not greeted with a friendly face or greeting. No eye contact. Which is fine you're busy, we get it. I literally was 1 of 3 people there. Next, I waited over 45 min for them to review two bags, half of the time they were chatting with one another. Then I noticed she was even fully reviewing some of my items, just skip through them. I kept browsing waiting for my name to be called so I can receive a summary of what was selected and if I am in agreement with the pricing/ selected items or just to let me know they completed the review. None of that happened. I went back to the counter after 45 min and asked if she can completed the review and she pointed to the wire shelf and that my bags were placed over there. On the bags was a sticky note with two dollar amounts. All my items were tossed and stuffed into the bag and she added another bag where she stuffed more of items because she didn't want to take the time to fold them up neatly. Staff is rude. Bethel took in my items that I brought into sell. It seemed like she didn't approve most of my items. On the second day I came back to pick up the remaining of my stuff, good thing she was off. Her colleague ended up taking three additional items and consigned my bag. I guess they are all trained differently. The vibe is offsetting, just close the doors and reopen when everyone is ready and happy to work. read more

Update: Less than 24 hours after my initial review, a Crossroads employee (corporate, I believe?) contacted me and asked me to contact the store manager, Kelli, to see if we could clear up the miscommunication and understand the situation that happened two days ago. Kelli was super helpful over the phone, and was easy to meet in person at the College location. She clarified to me Crossroads' trade/cash policy, which was totally my fault for not taking store credit on the day I sold items (over a month ago ). Regardless of my mistake, Kelli (and Dikki) were kind enough to look up in the computer system the history of my selling history (and I'm guessing they could also see how much cash was given to me two days ago vs the trade amount I originally asked for). Both employees put in a solid effort in figuring out how to reverse the cash vs trade mix-up, which paid off, and I am beyond appreciative of their kindness and willingness to help. Obviously, with the trade/store credit, I will be back to Crossroads. I love shopping second hand because I like to shop local and reduce waste. I was bummed two days ago at the thought of having to find somewhere else to do my shopping, but am glad that I won't have to. I am happy to see that the store is in such good hands (i.e., corporate, store management, the older/more serious store employees) and that the company really does care about their customers. This Crossroads location would have been just fine had I decided not to come back, I am one customer of many. Before you drive over there hauling heavy bags of items to sell - just don't. I took two large bags, 30+ pieces and they only bought two pieces for $10!!! My clothes is good current brand quality clothes better than what they have selling on the rack. Also, I had to drop off and go back a day later - double the effort due to COVID. They are not a friendly group either, very annoyed by everyone and all. Last time I'm doing this. Heads up to anyone wanting to sell. read more

COVID review: I've been coming to Crossroads in San Jose for a few years and love their store! I'll sometimes drive out of my way to SF or even Oakland to check out their other locations. Different stores carry different things and you'll never know when you'll find a cool item somewhere else. The concept is amazing and as somebody who shops and then donates a lot of clothes, it was perfect. I take all my gently worn clothes over there and chose to trade it for credit. You get more money back in credit than cash which is fine for me because I use the credit when I'm broke (don't judge) but still want to shop a bit! They have awesome clothes and accessories for men as well. They have a wide arrangement of clothes from H&M to free people to Louis Vuitton on consignment and all for great prices! Don't expect goodwill prices but definitely A LOT cheaper than actually going to Zara. A plus side is sometimes you find treasures from brands you didn't know existed. Now since covid... You have to make an appointment ahead of time to sell. It's honestly even better than before because sometimes there would be a line of 4 people selling/waiting when you'd get there. This cuts that back by a lot. Crossroads has an app that they used before but I believe it's been useless since Covid and you have to call to make the selling appointment. They have hand sanitizer at the front door and ask you to sanitize before coming in which is pretty cool because you know everybody is walking in with sanitized hands at least! The checkout line is spaced 6 ft apart from others. You will occasionally bump into somebody while shopping but they have mask on and it's inevitable. They seem pretty strict on their rules. read more

My apologies to the staff and customers at the Cross Roads Trading on College Avenue in Oakland. After having had a good experience at the store about week ago, I took several men's jackets to sell today. When I arrived there were 17 people ahead of me. After 4 hours I told one of the staff members that I planned to go get a bite to eat. When I came back it looked like my name had been called when I was out. I was told I'd need to wait in line after people who were then ahead of me. I was upset since I thought that since I told a friendly employee I was going out while I waited for such a long time to have my clothes evaluated and they didn't say that would be a problem. Now I see that was not the way the store operates. I should have stayed there no matter what. No matter how long. I feel so sorry for the two employees who must look at a ton of clothes everyday. My guess is they are not paid what they re worth. I am sorry I lost patience and hope the employees will get more help so they are not so pressured no one has to wait so long for help. read more

Well both times I've sold here they took some great items and compared to other consignment/thrift stores gave me a much higher payout! Score for me and those lucky owners of my old goodies. I went to the Crossroads on College Ave on 2/2/22 - two days ago - brought in four small tote bags. My main goal is to clean out clothes I don't wear for a halfway decent price and the unsold will be dropped off at goodwill. I brought in a lot of in trend items including a pair of Jimmy Choos and Prada kitten heels on top of some men's worn-once-items from my husband's closet. A middle aged woman employee helped me, which I guess was very telling of what she considers to be trendy will be very different from my 20 y/o style. I was told she "didn't find any trendy pieces". The overall conversation with her was not a warm one. Anyway, I happened to come across the Crossroads on Fillmore St in SF. I sold half my items today and was even told that my "Prada heels are so cute and will probably sell quickly." The employee at the Fillmore location even gushed over a pair of Tony Bianco loafers I had brought in. I don't write reviews often but I do have to say that I find the employees at College Ave actively create an unwelcoming environment. I am really intrigued as to why management hires people that hate their job and in return take it out on customers. read more

Don't waste your time here. These people have no clue how to run a business. We arrived at 11 AM, number 13 in line with thousands of dollars in specialty men's clothes very gentlemanly and lightly worn. After waiting 3 hours we needed to get lunch, Kate was like yeah of course, because this will take awhile! As soon as we sat down for lunch, less than 20 minutes later they texted us to come back. So, I left my wife to bring the clothes in so we wouldn't miss it. Well worth the wait? Nope! Kate was ready to reject more than half for no good reason... We had had everything dry cleaned before hand and the way that she returned it was in a wad a fucking mess that I had to get situated to even carry back to my car. I had found maybe 10 items that I wanted to purchase, and by the time Kate had figured out what we were going to get for our trouble: around 150$ she was like do you want store credit are you going to buy these other things? OK now go wait in the line to purchase. Pretty fucking sure I did that already... I was pissed as I walked behind the 10 new people in line. Thanks for a waste of time and money. Never coming back. Silver lining the girl in the back helping with the fitting rooms, named Veronica, was actually very kind and helpful. read more

I'm sure they have good things, but I was here to sell. And selling was difficult. Luckily, I didn't have to wait too long...maybe 40-50 min? Sarcasm because that was pretty long. I had two small bags with me but other peeps had brought so many bags! One lady even had 6 GARBAGE BAGS of things to sell! After digging through the clothes and items, I walked away with $17. Worth it? Maybeeee... One thing I really wished they did was to share the price of each item they're taking. The reason is because if you're going to pay me $1 for a brand new belt, I rather donate that belt to GoodWill. I wished they had the same service as the Crossroads over at Berkeley: drop off the bags, and pick them up within 1-3 days. read more

I was just at this store today; arrived here around 7pm to sell my clothes. The seller before me finished selling her stuff right around 8pm. The store refused to take the lady who waited for more than hour who was in line before me. She only had some shoes and I had a small paper bag of stuff to sell. The manager I believe this blonde girl was very cold and unwilling to help, even after I asked her if she can do us a favor to look through our stuff quickly because it shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes. She denied! Today was the second time I experienced her bad work ethics. Her attitude was basically not wanting to put in much effort; doesn't care to piss off customers and get them out of the store ASAP. I was told that the store needs to cleaned in order to close on time at 9pm. It's a Monday and this store is very clean which doesn't require much cleaning in order to close by 9pm. There were a total of 4 people working at the store at this time on this slow day. What a disappointment! I've never been to a second hand store that wouldn't take customers a few mins pass the hour when they are not busy. Can you put a better manager at this store please? The people at the clothes purchasing desk were so, so rude. They responded rudely to nearly anyone who approached them. They took about half my clothing, so I don't have any complaints with their selection process, but they just don't have to be so arrogant and unkind about it. People were asking them simple questions about the process and they were so incredibly condescending. When working with Such small profit margin's you're interacting with people from all walks of life, I understand if they have to set boundaries, but this was unnecessary and over the top. I see other people below have commented about the same thing, so obviously it hasn't been changed in a while. I'm surprised they let these people work in customer service, it totally ruins any shopping experience there and I definitely won't go back. I konmari'ed my closet and dropped off a batch of clothes last Tuesday and the woman who helped me pulled a pretty woman when I asked about the potential to consign some higher end items. She mansplained to me that "oh no those items are worth hundreds of dollars" with a tone that assumed I was a first timer. I've consigned a Burberry coat at this same location. I give off bag lady energy in stressful times and get treated as such but it really shouldn't be that way. I'm not sure what their definition is of high end and had some not quite burberry but still quality brands to sell hence why I wanted to have the conversation. Went back today to pickup/dropoff again and they were courteous but I still got the sense I was being 'diffused' and I'm still sore from Tuesday. It may have been because I said 'oh great' in frustration when my first dropoff yielded $11 cash for me. I understand it's about what people will buy and it's not a great time for shopping but the roi for the effort I put in is just not great and exhausting hence the frustration but that frustration is totally natural. I wasn't gonna come for them but I assume they were responding from past experience. I understand they're in a tight spot running a business but making assumptions about people isn't cool. Also, it just sucks to have things handled so unceremoniously when I put a lot of time and care into dewrinkling and hanging all the items. Not their fault but it just sucks. read more

Today I waited 5 hours to have 10 items looked at to sell. I even used the app to hold a spot in line and arrived at the store location when I was 3rd in line. It took the two employees nearly two hours to get from #1 in line to 3. To top it off, They only took one item out of all Madewell, Anthropologie, and Rag and Bone clothing. What was most frustrating about my experience was listening to the two workers chat and talk openly about other customers in a negative way. In the process of sorting, they held up articles to their bodies and talked about how they wanted certain items. This made me think what they were sifting through was for them not for the store. I just spent an hour and half waiting my turn (I had not signed up on the app so I am not complaining about the wait time). Once they did go through my clothes (all of which were good labels that appeal to young people, and in season -- just things I wasn't wearing anymore), they called me up. They would not take a single item and said they had underarm stains. I checked all of them when I came home (in good light) and not a single one had a stain anywhere, let alone under the arms; I even smelled them. I haven't been here in awhile and had about 30m to kill so walked in here just to browse. Found a few things I really liked. I wished they would organize by size and not by color. Would make it easy for shoppers! Prices are decent but not thrift shop low. Nothing I saw was dirt cheap but a good deal. Will definitely come back the next time I'm in the area. The clothes are fine. I was infuriated by the cutesy sign by the cash register that says they want to pay their staff a living wage so they add money to your bill on top of the price on the items you are purchasing. This is deceitful. What they are doing is choosing to add costs of running their business on after they have quoted a price. This is absolutely no different than, say, a store quoting a price then when you come to pay adding on a cost because 'they have to pay rent for the space', or indeed 'make a profit'. The owner chooses where to place a store and agrees to pay a certain rent, and managers decide how to pay staff. These are all business decisions that are reflected in your costs. You want to pay people a bit more and maybe give them better benefits? Great! I applaud you for doing so. Feel free to publicize that fact - as In'n'Out does - and be known for treating your staff well. Do NOT deceive your customers by adding cost after you have quoted a price. And yes, this is exactly what restaurants in SF are doing. The city mandate says they have to provide benefits for their staff. It is a cost of doing business as a restaurant in the city. Adding it onto the bill as a separate line item at the end is deceitful - it is an attempt to make it look like a sales tax, which it is not. . These cheap tricks are a good way to make yourself as disliked and avoided as TicketMaster, with their ludicrous 'convenience charges'. which allow them to publicize a lower ticket price. read more

I have been shopping at this Crossroads for years, the staff know me, and they are all super friendly, courteous, and kind(shoutout to Martel). I am in Rockridge quite a bit, so I honestly feel like my closet is mostly Crossroads based lmao. This particular location does get quite busy which I think is why some other people here found some of the workers rude-but it is a rather large location and they have to move fast in order to keep their business running efficiently. Since Covid, I have found that they are really only accepting high end or very gently used items because they want to increase sales which makes total sense-but does suck for people who are looking to sell. I have really only gone a few times since Covid, and because I have moved, but I have noticed less worn items and a lot more Free People, Anthro, Marc Jacobs, etc. Crossroads sells some great brands and products for amazing prices-which makes it really fun to experiment with new trends or looks without having to buy wholesale or retail. Some of my best finds over the years have been a Marc Jacobs Denim Jacket (retailed at $500, bought at $75). A pair of Vagabond Leather Flats (retailed for $100 something) bought for $75, a North Face purchased for $45, etc, you get the point. If you are into the "game" of thrifting-which in my case- is buying something because you saved some extreme coin on it and looks fabulous on you-then this is the place. It does help that this Crossroads is located in a rather expensive area of Oakland- so the people who donate are on the more wealthy side. The employees are very rude here. I brought in never warm, brand new with tags high priced items ex. Flynn Skye, joes, Paige, jimmy choo and they priced items super low. Not to mention they don't even tell you what they're pricing it at. So if you're uncomfortable with the price they chose it's awkward and almost wrong feeling to say you don't want to sell to them. VERY unfriendly ! Save the trip and go to buffalo exchange . You will get WAY better customer service, and a better deal for your expensive unworn items. Found a few good items here and there before but today's visit I was strictly selling. 1 bag of clothes / 1 of shoes and purses. They passed on all of my spring wear which was a gamble since I knew they were buying for fall. And passed on some sandals and flats as well. I was surprised when they didn't grab my leather bomber jacket, 100% wool vintage skirt and a few mom jeans though. I wish they would tell us what price they were going to sell our items for. I only saw (by chance) that they bought my thigh high boots for $22 when I originally paid $80 and they were in like new condition :/ I only walked away with $40 which honestly I could've made way more if I had the patience to wait for my items to sell on apps such as poshmark/depop Workers were nice and I only had to wait about 15 mins when I was 6th in line on a Tuesday mid afternoon read more
