I've always heard the food here isn't great, so I was never in a rush to try it. Today though we got a late start on the day and were striking out with our usual delis for bacon egg and cheese sandwiches which led us (unfortunately) to try out crosstown. After today's experience I can say this will be a first and last. The bacon, egg, & cheese sandwich was made up of 80% bread as pictured, and the roll was like one of kind you buy in a plastic sleeve from the grocery store. The 1 tiny strip of bacon was cooked good though! We also got a side of home fries which sucked pretty bad as well. It was like they took a microwaved potato, sliced it up and tossed it in a togo container. Overall, I should've stuck with my gut and passed on this place today. Lesson learned. Over $20 for two horrible breakfast "sandwiches" and sliced potato. I don't plan on a second meal here....ever. read more

After a 100-degree day, I decided to take the family to the Crosstown Diner for dinner. I love this community staple because it's local and they have such a great selection. My son wanted a Belgian waffle (why not?) for dinner and I chose the wings, cream of vegetable soup and onion rings. The food was nice and hot and the waffle looked like something out of a magazine. Crosstown Diner has been in the area for years - it used to be on my rotation back when I frequented diners but I haven't been here in about four or five years. Today however, my brothers and I were looking for some lunch, so we decided to grab a bite and rediscover Crosstown. Like many diners, Crosstown is bright and open. Even though the space is semi-compartmentalized, it flows nicely and has all the components one would expect to find in a diner. Because it's located at the corner of Tremont and the Bruckner Expressway, street parking can be difficult. However, they have a small parking lot that I've always been able to find a spot in. The menu is huge - both in selection and physical size. Like really - pages and pages, I thought I was at the Cheesecake Factory for a minute. I was in the mood for a wrap, so I turned to chapter 6 where they were listed. The southwestern wrap looked good, so I went with that. The wrap contained grilled chicken breast, guac, and cheddar jack cheese - it also came with a side of fries. I wasn't too impressed with the wrap; the contents weren't really defined - it kind of all melded into one, and the flavors weren't big. The fries were average - I would have liked to have seen more on the plate. Overall, I find Crosstown to be an average diner. While I would normally give a place like this a 3, after looking at the prices on the menu I'm giving them a 2. A forgettable wrap with a few fries cost $14? Wow - you can totally get a better deal elsewhere. I think Crosstown does a great job with their social media and neighborhood presence, but for me it has to be about the food - especially at these prices. read more

Fries was staled & the shake had black things floating on the bottom of it. By far the worse experience I've ever had with a diner. You would think these people care about what they are giving out. Their thick wire bound menu the size of a book gives you ample breakfast, lunch and dinner options to choose from. When dining in, I keep my order simple. I frequent the Crosstown Diner very much and each time I dine here the service is very prompt, cordial and my food arrives within a reasonable time frame. The wait staff, host and hostess are very accommodating and attentive to your needs and will help with meal suggestions. Their desserts are fresh and do not have that stale refrigerator smell and taste you find at other diners. The food here is fresh and the menu selections offer you a variety of meal options and depending on the entree and the time of day they'll gladly substitute certain items on your order. Portion sizes are adequate. The prices are reasonable and they will gladly accommodate small groups. They offer free delivery although it's always a good gesture to tip your delivery person. Because like the wait and buss staff, they make their money principally on your generous tips. (This Is For The Owners And Managers Of Crosstown Diner...) There's only a few things they need to improve on is 1. The cleanliness of the bathrooms. (Although they are reasonably clean, needs more attention around the clock.) 2. Crosstown only serves pork sausage with breakfast and lunch. I suggest getting beef sausages and letting the patrons choose between having pork or beef with their meals. 3. Salads containing ham, cheese and roast beef should not be made of sliced or pre-sliced cold cut deli slices. Salads should be made of diced meat and cheeses. I suggest using ham steaks and diced block cheese instead. Diners should not expect sliced cold cuts in their salads. If a diner wanted sliced cold cuts in their salad then they'd go to a deli and ask for a submarine or hero sandwich. Change these things and through word of mouth you'll see more patrons come to the Crosstown Diner. These changes will make for an even better Crosstown Diner.
