I really wanted this review to be positive, as I was referred here by a friend who trusts this mechanic implicitly. It can be tough to find trustworthy mechanics, especially as a woman. I've come here twice. Both times I dud not encounter what I would consider friendly service, except initially from the owner's daughter, who works in the office. Perhaps the owner is stressed which is why I never saw him smile. He is clearly a hard worker. Why I gave this shop a 1-star review. I came in for what I believed was I've been to this shop, and people I referred to this repair shop apparently never saw him smile either. Maybe he's just not a happy person, but it comes across as unfriendly, as if he was annoyed I was there. read more

Bottom line up front: AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Do Not believe their deceitful lies. I am very glad that I had a regular mechanic a little bit out of the way that I could take the car to in order to independently verify the things that were told to me by the shop. I took my car to them after seeing the coolant temperature rise at stoplight over the course of two days. After three hours and a free diagnostic test, they stated that the head gasket was warped/blown and the water pump and coolant tanks were leaking. Mind you the car never had any misfires, and OBD two scan did not reveal any misfires P001-004 or 008, there was never any smoke, there was no smell of burning coolant, the oil was not milky, or any of the other hallmarks of a quote completely blown head gasket/warped head". I thought it was weird that they could conclusively say there was a head gasket failure without performing a compression test so I took it to my normal mechanic an hour away. If they hadn't have quoted me 3,000 dollars to fix the issue I may have believed them, I'm glad I didn't. Mind you the shop told me it was not safe to drive the car at all. The car ran great and cool the entire trip to the normal mechanic. My mechanic then proceeded to do a complete battery of tests, including a compression test. The results of the test were as follows: cylinder 1- 186 cylinder 2- 182 cylinder 3- 191 cylinder 4- 184. The mechanic also observed a nominal and even wear/burn pattern on all four spark plugs. He performed a vacuum leak down which the car passed with flying colors. As well as performing a pressure smoke test with zero leaks. Checking the oil it was smooth with no milkiness or contaminants. And checking the cooling system there were no leaks or drips of any kind. Total cost at the normal mechanic: 185 dollars for the tests and replacing the spark plugs and oil. I don't know if these guys thought my family and I were easy suckers, but they should not be trusted. They are scam artists trying to see who they can play as a sucker for a quick buck. They also were trying to buy the car from me even when I told them we had just gotten this car. I'm sure they do good work most of the time, the owner seems nice, but the hired hands/ younger kids working in the shop seem to only be in it for the profit. read more

Our friends were visiting from out of town and their car broke down. We had it towed and ask the tow truck driver who they recommended we bring the car to and he told us Fernando would take care of us. We got amazing service from Fernando - within the same day he tracked down a specific part for us and had his team working on it right away. STAY AWAY FROM CROWN AUTO!!! UPDATE: I Just found out that my airbags were deployed and since I know it never happened with any of us driving the car, it most likely happened when the service guy who was responsible for having someone crash into my car's passenger door, parked my car. Crown not only didn't tell me about this, but did a crappy job barely repairing the door and leaving me with the "airbag light" on and torn parts on the doors of my car. I found this out when I took it to the BMW dealer and another mechanic, both of whom told me that the only reason the airbag light is on is because the airbags were deployed. And they showed me the area where the airbags were deployed. One of them even said I should have my lawyer contact them regarding what has occurred. I cannot believe that Crown did this to us... We were so loyal to them for so long, and not only did they completely damage our car and not repair it, they also lie on top of it! Isn't the point of a mechanic is to FIX things, NOT BREAK THEM?! I brought my car in today for a front brake replacement. A few weeks ago, I took my car to a Jiffy Lube & was told my brakes were at 30%. I've been a customer at Crown Auto for a few years & they normally do my oil changes. But I was in a rush. My mistake... You can imagine my surprise when Fernando called & said, "I don't know where you took your car previously -- but your brakes are at 50%." Not only that, but they didn't charge a dime & thoroughly checked the engine, belts etc. You won't find a more honest & reasonably priced auto service anywhere...I love this place! read more

I brought my car here to fix a window that got stuck. While here, I decided to also get my side skirt fixed and broken driver seat arm replaced. I told the owner to take a look at the side because I was told it was being held up by a double sided tape and to let me know if it needed repair. I also asked him to replace my broken arm rest. He convinced me that he could repair the arm rest and charged me $171 for both of these repairs. When I went to pick up my car, I was shocked to see my side skirt was still lifting on the edges, dusty with no signs of finger marks and appeared to look as it it hadn't even been touched. The arm rest was glued together with super glue lol and looked so hideous. I asked the owner what was done to my car and he said he placed a couple bolts to both of these repairs. I was not satisfied, both jobs looked so bad. He instantly felt bad and asked me to return a few weeks later and said he will order the arm rest and replace it for me and fix the side skirt to look better. I made the appointment, called the night before to confirm and showed up to my appointment on time. Only to find the owner extremely frazzled and started yelling at me because some of his guys called off last minute and he did not have the time to fix my car. He also acted like he had no idea of what I was talking about. I stood my ground and called him out on his unprofessionalism and he apologized for yelling at me. I agreed to give him more time and he said he will have my car fixed and ready for pick up in the afternoon. When I came to pick up my car, he informed me that the part he ordered was the wrong side (passenger's side) so he took the liberty to replace my passenger side armrest free of charge. The side skirt was still untouched. Granted, I had ubered to my appointment 4x at this point (back and fourth) and have spent $60 on Uber alone. He said he would reorder the correct arm rest and have it ready in a couple of weeks. I called back several times and each time, they said it was on back order and each time they said they would give me a call when it arrived. This was in mid June and it is now end of October. I do not recommend this shop. They're unreliable and they over charge for super glue. Please stay away from this shop. You could probably do a better job at home for free. read more

As a father the highest praise I can give a shop is they take care of my daughter's car as if she was their own kid. They are incredibly fair and reasonable to work with and play no games. After one horrible night for my daughter she was able to get her car squeezed in and repaired. In addition it was washed when she picked it up. They are amazing! read more

I was referred to this shop by there auto-body Crown Coachworks auto and paint. I don't know about the quality of the services but the owner is not friendly or approachable. I came in at 11:00 am, because the shop I was referred by the shop above. When I entered the establishment, the owner was on the phone, I waited until he was done with his call and he asked if I needed help curtly. I attempted to ask a question and the owner immediately shut me down and said we're busy. I said okay and left since he clearly wasn't going to help me. I felt really dumb and angry because of his rudeness and overall waste of time. I believe some of this was racially motivated, I'm a passing white Latino and I feel that if I looked more like a "typical" Latin Amaerican, that I would have been treated with a little more respected or kindness. This was just before we had the internet in our hands. I went in for a standard oil change. Price was fair. Then they suggested replacing the cabin air filter. You know where this is going. I was charged $75. lol. You don't know what you don't know. It was a very expensive lesson but they let me know just how they felt about their customers. Sure you can get the right person who can be helpful here but do your due diligence and research before you commit. There are plenty of honest mechanics out there. read more

Fernando and his team diagnosed the problem of my BMW 335i and gave me a fair quote. They replaced the valve cover, O2 sensors and spark plugs. The car runs amazing now. They even washed the car for me. They also replaced the thermostat of my Jeep wrangler and did a good job. I'm glad I took a chance with them. Nice guys, but I can't get them to call me back if my life depended on it. I've been in and out for 3-4 months now for the same issue of my car overheating and auto shutting down. And every single time I call and ask a question, I'm told I'll get a call right back and never get a call. The first time they told me it was because someone put a cup down on my number and couldn't read it, but they have continued to not called me back on several more occasions even after they read my number back to me. I'll wait 3-4 days, call back, then explain I was expecting a call back, then the cycle continues. I've replaced my thermostat with a brand new one, I've had new radiator hoses installed and had them double tightened after the first install seemed loose from a different auto place, after that didn't work, I replaced my upstream and downstream O2 sensors, I've had a new 12v battery installed, new oil and filter change, wheel balance and tire rotation, electronic wheel balance. Now they are saying it's the catalytic converter. I just want a car that isn't overheating every single time I drive it, when I've been making very strong efforts to resolve it because getting a new or used car right now is far too expensive. I wanted this to be my go-to place because I can walk, even though it's 2 miles, I can drop it off and know I can get home. But my job requires a working car, and I've been trying my hardest to keep that up, but when an auto service place is dropping the ball in good communication, I really have no option but to find somewhere else. read more

Any person who has written a review more than one star has probably been asked to by the owners. My father took his car to this place for the door handle jamming slightly on a basic Honda! They charged him $180 for some WD40, they didn't replace any parts, they didn't spend more than 20 minutes on the car. My father is a senior citizen and retired. I hope the owners read this review. Please avoid this shop. My Audi A4's water pump broke, and it broke 13 months after the first repair, so I had to replace it again, and the second time it only lasted 2 years before it leaked again. This place is friendly, effective, and doesn't upsell at all. I've been going here for a bit since it's really close to me. I keep going here because they aren't a hassle to deal with. If I tell them I need a couple things done (e.g. an oil change and a tire rotation), they'll do just that. It's all done the same day or next day depending on the time. If there are any issues such as needing some filters changed or brakes replaced, they'll let you know but won't try to make you get them changed on the spot. It's more of a "just so you know" rather than "you need this now, from us!" The car will be ready when they say so and at most they'll just mention the fixes that will be needed soon. Prices are very up-front. There is some discrepancy here whether they close at 6 (as stated here) or 5:30 (as mentioned on a sign at the location). The mechanics leave about an hour before closing. The only issue is that you may need to wait a bit to pick up your car. Paperwork can get misplaced or they may be a bit busy, so don't expect to have your car ready within 10 minutes of walking in. read more

I have taken my car a few times to Crown Auto, and it's so nice to have a mechanic you trust. My work is close by which is of course a plus for me, but I always refer people over there because I know they won't get ripped off. I've gotten my oil changed a few times and recently had to get a mud flap bar thing fixed. I don't know anything when it comes to cars, but I know Fernando and his crew will take care of it and not charge me a ridiculous fee. I have an old Bugatti kit car (basically a VW engine on a custom chassis. It looks like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but doesn't drive quite as well. It's beautiful but it's basically a custom toy that is worth more as a Sunday novelty than as a car) I needed new shocks and nobody in town wanted to touch it. Except for Fernando Lopez who owns Crown Auto Service. Fernando owns a similar car so he knew the appeal of ownership was to satisfy our kids and (future) grandkids and he repaired the car gladly and charged a fair price where could easily have charged more. I highly recommend this neighborhood independent shop for their honesty, integrity, attention and good work. I recently had a wonderful experience with Fernando. I've been planning to get my brakes replaced here soon, because Crown seems to have the best pricing around, but in the meantime, my car had been making a strange noise only when I first started it, and it had gotten progressively worse over the past few months. However, it would go away after the first few minutes so I didn't know how to properly explain the sound in order to diagnose the problem. Fernando graciously agreed to stop by my place, which is very close to his shop. He immediately told me it was my power steering fluid, so I drove to the shop where he topped it up, free of charge! I took my time writing this review because I wanted to make sure I wasn't just irrationally angry at the situation. But it's been a long time, and I feel the need to warn people about this place. I took my car here for years and thought they were good, but in April 2021, I took my car in for an issue. They said they fixed it, I picked it up, and then within 24 hours, the problem was back. So I took it back to them and waited a few days to see what was happening. When I called to check in, they said it'd be ready the next day, but were kind of weird about it. The next day, they called, and I expected them to say I could come pick it up, but instead they were calling to ASK ME IF I ALREADY PICKED IT UP...?! Nope. It was stolen. And the story was super sketchy. The car was found a few days later totally stripped in Inglewood. But even the tow lot people said it was suspicious. To this day, I'm still not sure what the real story is, but the car was totaled. They claimed it was a fluke, but I'll never be back. read more

I just had to write a review for this - I had an excellent experience with Fernando and I felt compelled to write a review. I've used them a couple of times for basic oil changes/check ups and always has an efficient, comfortable experience. This week, I came back to my car after being out of town for months to find that it had died. I jump started a couple of times but it kept dying, and then the steering light came on, so I was freaking out because I was moving and had to sell my car within this week. I called Crown and they could see me the next morning. I dropped off my car, and within a few hours Fernando called to to explain that they tries to charge the battery for 3 hours and it failed to hold charge so they had to put in a new battery, and they also did a basic check up/oil change on the car. When I picked up the car, they even GAVE ME A CARWASH - so my car looked brand new :) Fernando was honest and helpful, the charges were reasonable and clear, and I felt very comfortable with the experience. They also take the proper COVID precautions (Fernando even sanitized my credit card). read more

Dropped off my car for a free diagnostic service Thursday afternoon so they would have it all day Friday. I go by Friday around 3:30 pm to pickup my car because I needed it for the weekend and I go to the location and I see my car parked on the street 1 block from their entrance with my window down and keys in ignition and car running! They tried to explain to me that they were moving cars. I had to get in my car and drive it myself to the front of their shop. Are you kidding me? This is LA with car thefts and you just leave my keys in the ignition with no one around??? How could you trust them to work on your car when they leave your car on the street with window down and keys in ignition? After all that Fernando didn't even tell me what is wrong with my car. You spent 7 hours having car and you can't even spend 1 minute to tell me what happened after 7 hours of you having my car? Don't waste your time here. read more
