Within a few days he gave us an estimate and within a few days he had pressure washed the chimney, re-cemented it, and put on a new cap and will seal it when the cement has dried. Huge kudos to Paul for not only his responsiveness and smarts, but being an all around nice guy to work with. He made time within 24 hours to come by and check out my chimney situation after ChimCare had flaked on me, and thank goodness I called him to look at everything because it turned out CC had lied about having done a sweep back in July (I suppose someone could say it's our bad for not checking the chimney insides ourselves to make sure a company did what they said they did, but when you buy a home and have 10 inspections in a week you trust the contractor did what you paid them to do) as Paul unloaded several bucketfuls of soot that came pouring out as soon as he opened the little door in the chimney which is in our garage. Considering we had literally removed our woodstove the day after CC had told us it was not usable and that we needed a new flue, it was clear CC had not actually done the chimney sweep they claimed in writing to have done - basically, they scammed us. Even though I only paid him for a quick inspection, he emptied out all the soot, audited everything that CC claimed to have done and said was needed, and the fact of the matter was that CC was again trying to pull a fast one - our chimney was fine, it didn't need a new flue, and all we need to do is order our new stove and do the hearth update we had planned and we'd be good to go. Along with that, Paul was very good about providing a ton of information on woodstoves vs pellet stoves, energy and cost savings and advantages to each, recommendations for future maintenance and preventative care - with zero pressure - and even a referral to a hearth guy (with pictures on his phone of the guy's work) if we decide not to DIY that part of the project. This company is wonderful. Our chimney had not been cleaned in years. They were able to come on short notice. Very efficient and not one speck of dust or soot anywhere in the house. While cleaning it, he noticed that the back wall of the chimney needed repairs, which were done on the spot for only an extra $40 . It was probably an hour of extra work, and he even made the cement filler match the existing bricks. But then when he found out I lived in Nehalem he said his business will not work South of Arch Cape. Maybe it's a licensing issue . So I had to use someone in Tillamook. read more
