I visited this place a while ago and have been debating on whether or not to write a review. Since I'm still thinking about my experience now, I thought it would be best to share it. Long story short, I would NOT recommend Dr. Chan. Although he appears nice and understanding, he is quite the opposite. After I had gotten my procedure, I had some major pain. Anytime I tried to contact Dr. Chan about my concerns, I was told he was too busy. For someone who speaks proudly about patient care, he doesn't actually seem to care and avoids any conflict. My Honest Experience as a Former Patient - A Message for Dr. Chan I'm writing this not to discredit Dr. Chan's professional ability... I've always respected him as a gentle and knowledgeable dentist. I'm not here to attack or defame him. I've never threatened legal action, and I still believe he has a good heart. But what I am here to speak on is the troubling experience I had with his receptionist, Joanne, whose actions have deeply disappointed me and who I believe may eventually damage Dr. Chan's practice if left unchecked. Earlier this year, while going through a painful divorce, I called twice to schedule a cleaning appointment before my insurance expired. I specifically explained my situation and asked Joanne to check if I was still covered. She never followed up. No callback, no appointment. Months went by. I called again. Still no help. Later, I learned my children were able to get their teeth cleaned before the divorce was finalized... confirming my insurance was still active at the time I reached out. So I called one final time to express my concern, calmly mentioned the missed opportunity, and even offered to sell a few leftover candles for $5 each to clean out my garage. That's when everything shifted. Joanne completely twisted my words and falsely claimed I was "asking for donations" because I was "broke and homeless." That is not only degrading... it is completely untrue. I am not homeless. I am healing. I have skills and a work ethic. I ran a salon, I sell handmade candles, I wrote 5 books in four months and published on Amazon and other bookstores and I could return to doing nails tomorrow if I wanted to. What I didn't expect was to be belittled and humiliated by someone I once gave candles to for free. Let me be clear: * Joanne mishandled a patient request, misused personal information, and turned a professional inquiry into a personal insult. * I didn't threaten, demand, or act out of control... I calmly asked for care and was ignored, gaslit, and shamed. * I gave freely my candles, kindness, laughter and was repaid with disrespect. When I eventually walked into the office to ask (politely) if I could speak with Dr. Chan, Joanne called the police on me. She and another staff member falsely claimed I was loud or disruptive. But when I was their paying patient, laughing and gifting candles, that same "loudness" was never a problem. It only became an issue once I no longer brought them money. Dr. Chan... if you're reading this: This review is not against you. I still believe you are a good dentist. But this is a wake-up call. You may not realize how Joanne is presenting your office to the public, but if this behavior continues, someone else... not me... could eventually bring legal consequences your way. Her dishonesty, her manipulation, and her lack of basic respect for vulnerable patients are not traits you want representing your name. I wish no harm to your practice only clarity. I've been going to Crown Dentistry and Dr. Chan for three years now. During Covid, I did not go to the dentist for a couple years and it really caught up with me. I had to have a lot of work done, and Dr. Chan, and his staff were so kind and gentle with me. I am a very nervous patient, but they have always been nothing but kind to me and accommodating. Their hygienist, Megs is fantastic! I just can't say enough about everyone who works in the office and especially Dr. Chan. It's important to me to build a rapport with my healthcare teams, and I really appreciate they've all done so with me. I go every three months now to stay on top of my teeth cleaning and obviously any other changes that may occur with my dental health. If you are looking for a new dentist or just wanting to change yours for whatever the reason may be, I absolutely recommend Crown Dentistry and Dr. Chan. read more

I love Dr Chan and Hygienist Megan! Miss them so much! However, after 10 years plus had enough of the poor service and organization with the billing and appointment aspect. Didn't realize until after I left how many other friends had the same experience. Receiving bills many weeks or even months later. Confirming multiple times at time of paying that would be 100% paid. Not the case later in the mail receiving a bill. I understand there's a process with office and insurance company, but there was a discussion previously had to process the insurance portion FIRST then schedule my appointment and I would pay in full. Front office rep lacks some serious professionalism. Not up to the standard for a dental office but maybe for a Metro PCS store. The multiple rescheduling of my appointments is not acceptable. Dr Chris and his team do great work. I had gone a few years without going to the dentist due to moving several times and did not want to establish myself with a dentist. Now that I'm locked into the area I figured it was time to stick with a dentist. Friends of mine spoke highly of Dr Chris so I figured let's try him. Him and his staff are very through in their exams and made sure I didn't have any complications with the dental work I had done due to my absence from dental care. To be clear, I do not enjoy going to the dentist. Even teeth cleanings give me anxiety. That said, I absolutely love Dr. Chan and his team. They are patient, kind, personable, funny, and experienced. The office is clean and calm. Each of the rooms is decorated with a theme - my personal favorite is the Avengers room. They do a thorough job while also respecting your time. Dr. Chan is the best in the business. I could easily find a dentist closer to home, but I could never replace the amazing crew at Crown Dentistry. Their accounting is so shady! Please don't go here if you want to lose your money! I lost my job due Covid back in March 2020, one of the first things I did was going here and ask them "Do I owe you guys anything?" No, that was their answer. I should've asked it on paper, now I know! 18 months later I received a letter, 1 letter during all these 18 months that I owed over $1,800.00!!! It was a simple letter not even with "Crown Dentistry" on it. I had to do my own search to find out where this letter was coming from. The lady was threating me if I didn't pay, I felt so mad and upset, because one thing I'm proud of is that I DO NOT OWE ANYTHING TO ANYONE, all my credits cards have 0 balance, she treated me like garbage. Dr. Chan is very professional and I'm very grateful because he did an amazing job, and 0 pain. BUT THEIR BILLING AND ACCOUNTING SUCKS, it's not the first time I heard someone else are having same problems with them. Long story short, and I'm honestly ashamed, I paid them. Every member of the Crown Dentistry team is highly skilled, very intelligent, and extremely friendly and pleasant. The office is immaculately clean, and the equipment state of the art. Crown Dentistry is also easy to access -- located in North Natomas in a single-story building, there's plenty of parking, meaning you don't have to negotiate downtown traffic and multi-story parking structures. I had a great experience at Crown Dentistry. I haven't been to a dentist in years, so when my tooth started to hurt, I didn't do anything about it right away, hoping that the pain would subside like it had so many times before. Unfortunately that tooth had broken apart, and the pain became so excruciating I had to do something. A friend referred me to Dr. Chan and even went so far as to call the office for me to see if they could get me in last minute. Not only did they get me in, they saw me late in the day on a Friday when most offices would've been closing down. I was really pleased with how quickly the whole thing came together. Each staff person played a part in getting me the help I needed, from setting my appointment, to calling my insurance to verify coverage. The office space is really nice and convenient since I live in Natomas, which will make regular appointments easier for me to keep. Dr. Chan's assistent took X-Ray's and pictures while he was finishing with another patience. He was very kind about my lack of regular dental visits in the past, and quickly explained why I was in so much pain and what was the best course of treatment. We decided to extract the decayed tooth. Once he numbed that side of my mouth / face he was able to get my tooth out in 5 min - without pain!!! Both Dr. Chan and his assistant Amy game me plenty of chances to ask questions and sent me home with clear instructions on how to take care of my self. I'll be bringing the whole family in soon. The good ole "bait-and-switch"! Watch out for Crown Dentistry! I responded to a local ad for 50% off dental implants and implant procedures about a year ago and was strung along the entire time. Went into the office for a consultation after I spoke to a representative over the phone and confirmed my insurance was accepted. Obviously the purpose of my visit was to talk about the implant costs (exclusively) and to set up an appointment, but instead I was given a ROUGH estimate and told they would have to get back to me because they needed to run some of their own tests and talk to my insurance providers (I have dual coverage). However, they were easily able to set up a full examination, x-rays, cleanings, and fill a cavity (of course), but still could not give me a definitive response in regards to the implant procedures. I was eventually told my out of pocket expense would be a little over $1000 using my dual coverage and the special they were running. This waiting game literally lasted months. In the meantime the 50% deal expired and I stopped getting contacted by the dental office. I would call for follow ups and leave messages requesting for someone to get in touch with me. Story was always the same--still waiting for information from the insurance company or some sort of discrepancy with my personal information. After many months of this back and forth game I called my insurance provider myself to see what the issue was or if I could speed the process along. Only to be told everything was in order and nothing was wrong with my policy. Wow really!?!?!? I called the dental office right after to share this great news (I thought) and was told someone would return my call after their lunch break. I finally received a call the next morning and was literally shocked at the result. I was told that after reviewing my case and x-rays, they would not be able to begin the implant procedure for me because my situation was "too specialized", but they would be glad to write up a referral for an office they highly recommended. So after all those months and money spent on procedures I did not even want, they tried to refer me to one of their friends. Extremely frustrating experience and a complete waste of my time. Stay far far away from this place...DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!! read more

Dr. Kaplan and Eureka Dental team are outstanding! I went in to get some cavities filled and could not have been more impressed with the speed, professionalism, courtesy and expertise I was treated with. Dr. Kaplan was very patient and forewarned me about every step of the procedure, telling me what instrument he was going to use, what it did, and how it would feel. He made what should have been a frightening, painful experience a genuinely pleasant one . I had e few fillings done and was in-and-out of the office in just an hour! Very impressive. I went to Dr. Chan for many years, but when I got seriously injured at work and had to go through Worker's Comp. Crown would not accept it. I had a concussion as well as a tooth injury and was forced to suddenly find a new dentist. Crown was not willing to do the extra paperwork for me. I'm sad to see that there is a negative review of Dr. Chan and his staff. After going to several dentists in the area that only wanted to get every dime out me with mediocre service, I was referred to Crown Dentistry by my mother in law. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted very warmly by the receptionist who happened to be in the middle of something on her computer. This doesn't really seem like big deal, but nowadays when the expectation of customer service is so low, having someone stop what they are doing for two seconds to give you a genuine smile and say "Welcome in, I'll be right with you" sets off a great start. While I waited for Dr. Chan, one of his assistants showed me around the office and stayed with me to chit chat until the doctor was ready. Again, not a big deal, but it made me feel much more comfortable than being left alone with a two year edition of People magazine. I've been to this office several times. Dr. Chan himself is very thorough in his consultation and makes an effort to ensure that his patients are at ease during the appointment. You can also tell that he has great respect from his staff. They will crack jokes every so often. Most importantly, he explains his reasons for service recommendations and does not try to extort you for every thing that you have. I've recommended Crown Dentistry to many friends and they have all had the same great experience. read more

I went in to get a cracked molar removed. The nurses seemed friendly, until one asked me why I talk so much, right before shoving gauze in my mouth. The room I was in faced a huge window, which made me feel like I was on display. Dr. Chan came into the room when my gums were sufficiently numbed by local anesthetic. He was polite, and began injecting my gums to further numb them. Now, this isn't my first tooth-removal rodeo, so I was expecting an injection or two. but no, I got a total of five injections, and the tooth removal was still painful. All the while, Dr. Chan seemed very dismissive and degrading to his nurses, treating them as if they were stupid but trying to be polite for company. Maybe they were new? But they seemed very competent to me. Maybe Dr. Chan was just having a bad day. After the tooth-pulling, I was ushered into a small room to discuss payment. Additionally, Dr. Chan wanted to perform several more surgeries, that he himself deemed unnecessary, that would cost well over $2,000! I was prescribed Oxycontin (!) when a few ibuprofen did the trick just fine. Still not sure what to do with a dozen oxy pills in my bathroom. I wish I could go back to my old dentist over at d2O Dental, but he no longer accepts my insurance. Still looking for a good dentist. read more

Crown Dentistry is a great local practice. Things always run smoothly here. The appointments are on time, they have all the most advanced equipment, the staff members are friendly, and Dr. Chan is a patient and concerned dentist. I feel like Dr. Chan goes above and beyond for our dental needs. For example, Dr. Chan's office sent out requests to my orthodontist and oral surgeon to request copies of the outside stuff just so he would have the best full picture- and he's always asking them for updates. Compassion is the key term here! Dr Chan is as personable as if he were a family member. His staff the same. I had major oral surgery and I would not even consider anyone else to pull 8 teeth but Dr Chan. His office is state of the art.and so is his ability to explain exactly what proceedures you face to correct your smile. This is a 5 star outfit period. Dr Chan was the first dentist I had like in ever. He explained everything, the cost, the insurance and a detailed treatment options and procedures. I think started seeing Dr Chan in 2007 and I saw him regularly until Sep 2010. I never had any complaints with him or any of the staff ever. Seems from reading these reviews, people either really dislike or really love Crown Dentistry. I am extremely satisfied with Dr. Chan and his staff. I've been to several dentists in the Natomas area trying to find "the one." Well, here it is. I love that this practice is not a corporation making me feel like just a bottom line number. I watched my crown being made in the machine. No additional visits required. The staff are very friendly. I was being told what to expect every step of the way. I was also charged a copay for my cleaning, same as an earlier reviewer, whichivenever had to pay before, but I'll pay it. The services are worth it to me. I have had 2 root canals and they were great, no pain. Vanessa greets everyone with a smile and makes you feel welcome. Every member of this family makes you feel welcome. Doctor Chan is so gentle, I never feel the needle when given novocaine. And Leanne is my favorite!!!!!! Everytime she sees me she gives me a hug. I consider the staff to be friends and when you are there you are treated as family. I will never see another dentist. read more

*Edited 7/16/17 read below* The staff in general is very nice. Dr Chan is also very nice and very personable. Which is the only reason why I'm giving them three stars and not less. I have no doubt that they probably do good work but I feel somewhat taken. To some degree it is my fault for not knowing my benefits and researching doctors in network completely. But I place a good deal of blame on them for not letting me know that only my cleaning was covered due to being out of network and anything else like fillings would need an additional fee due to being out of network. Had they told me this up front I would not have gotten my teeth cleaned by a group that will not be taking care of my dental issues. That should have been reserved for the doctor that would be willing to take my dental insurance so I don't have to go through another examination again. Absolutely ridiculous and I feel that that was just done to take my money. Too bad because they are nice and very close to my house and it would have been great for both myself and my wife but now I won't go back. *EDIT* Avoid this place unless you want to be overcharged. Read my post above. I got a bill for a service that should have been covered (Had these crooks let me know up front what costs were to be expected I would have NEVER used their services!!!). The Bill look like complete BS as there is NO explanation of services preformed. Just a stupid bill that says 'Balance Forward'. I will be calling to get a detailed bill so I can see exactly what cost me $400 for, again, AN ANNUAL CLEANING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY MY INSURANCE. It's almost a weird thing to say that you love your dentist, but I really do love Dr. Chan and his awesome staff. I first found Crown Dentistry several years ago after a nasty bike accident that left me with several broken teeth. I had never been there, but I was in a lot of pain and they fit me in almost immediately. From the start everyone was so kind and helpful. Now that I've moved 30 min away, I still come here because of how personable and compassionate the entire staff is. I was even able to convince my dentist-phobic husband to give them a try, and he was pleasantly surprised. Really amazing customer care, and of course awesome dentist. Like I said, it's weird to say that I love coming here, because dentist work can be inherently uncomfortable, but Dr. Chan and everyone there go above and beyond to make it as pleasant as possible. Been coming here nearly 7 years, and will definitely continue to make 30 min drive to come here. Couldn't recommend more! read more

I was a patient of Crown Dentistry a couple of years ago. Having moved to Natomas I needed some dental work done under an emergency situation. I had no problem getting in, having my issue assessed and having a consultation with the dentist. I agreed to having a root canal done along with a crown. It was a several visit process and very expensive (no dental insurance). I was disappointed that other than the root canal itself, a assistant did the majority of the work. I felt that if I was paying top dollar, I should be having the work done by the dentist who I consulted with. Several weeks after the root canal process and before the crown, I got a horrific tooth ache. The dentist staff informed me they could not get me in for about 48 hours. Now, if you have ever had a painful toothache, 48 hours is just too long to wait but I had no other option. I did FINALLY get in, the crown was put in place and I have never been back. I'm afraid I need to select a dentist who has compassion for the pain involved with a horrific tooth ache. read more

I have been going to Crown Dentistry for about two years now and just realized I owe them a yelp! The initial reason I decided to give them a try was because when I looked them up as I shopped around, the online reviews they had at the time were so great. They truly lived up to my expectations and I am so happy I found them. I recommend them to people all of the time. They are all very professional yet personable and make it a point to remember your life happenings and follow up with you at each appointment to see how your kids, schooling, marriage, dogs - whatever the topic may be - are all doing. I trust they only perform they work they deem completely necessary and don't try to squeeze extra money from me or my insurance company. They are great with patients who have dentist anxiety and have methods to make the experience more bearable (my ex experienced this first hand and said he really loved them too which was a shocker since he hated "the dentist"). Also, hopefully I will never need this, but they have the machine onsite which creates crowns so you don't have to wear a temporary and schedule to return in a week or two. They really value your time and overall experience. read more

The staff is always friendly, and I have never had an issue with them. They follow up after dental work (such as a filing or crown) to see if you have any issues. I have been going to them for about two years, and I recommend them if anybody asks for a dentist in this area. read more

They are super friendly, fun and funny and understand that you can be completely efficient and get the job done without being stuffy and silent. My experience with Crown Dentistry has been simply Awesome! I have been a patient of Dr. Chan's for several years now and have never had a bad experience. I went from never wanting to go to the dentist to looking forward to getting my teeth cleaned. I have had a root canal and a couple of fillings; all without pain. He is the best dentist I have ever been to and his staff is pretty terrific too. They are so good that since I have moved to Redding I continue to use their services. For me they are worth the drive. I joined Yelp just to review this dentist office. I went in for an appointment last Friday for a routine exam, x-rays and basic cleaning. Before I was seen the lady at the front desk showed me a breakdown of costs. I receive a basic cleaning every six months from my dental insurance at no cost to me. This dentist office tried to charge me for it. I told the lady this is just a routine 6 month cleaning because that is not what she had written on the estimate. She tried to tell me that yes that is the 6 month cleaning and that it was not zero cost to me through my insurance. Yes it is completely covered by my insurance and I have since reconfirmed this with my insurance company. I'm not sure if she just didn't know how to properly look up insurance or if she thought I wouldn't know what my insurance covers. I left without having my cleaning or exam because I did not want to be seen by this place since they were trying to charge me for something my insurance covers 100%. Today I get a bill in the mail for canceling my appointment on the same day. I didn't cancel! I refused treatment because their office was trying to charge me for a routine cleaning that my insurance completely covers. I would have gladly stayed if their office had it's billing practice together. So, bottom line is they tried to charge me for a cleaning my insurance covers and when I don't have the cleaning because they don't have their billing practices straight they then try to get money out of me by saying I canceled on the same day. Why would I have taken off of work and come all the way there if I hadn't planned on getting the cleaning? I wouldn't waste my annual leave and gas to come to their office just to walk out without getting anything done. It's their fault that I didn't stay for the appointment and now they want $50 after they wasted my time by not having their billing practices straight. They only lost a client because they didn't know how to properly look up whether or not a routine cleaning is covered by my insurance. It seems like that wouldn't be a hard thing to do since they deal with insurance all of the time. read more
