So I came into the eye center for a routine check up and prescription glasses. I was greeted by the very animated & personality driven Nicholas Quinto who is the manager at the east Brunswick New Jersey office. He was nice and fast paced & gave me a lot of insight on the selection of glasses and prices. Dr. Hoi Fongli was the optometrist who took care of me & was extremely thorough when he did the eye exam. First time here. Office hours are lousy. The place was dirty needed a good vacuum. The customer service was also not good. Waited 2 weeks for the glasses to come in then they got lost in the mail. Waited almost three more weeks to get them . When we went to pick them up they just handed them to us. We didn't get them fitted to our face or anything. The only good thing I can say is the eye doctor himself was very nice he did a good job. As for the rest of this place would never recommend it and will never go back. read more

I have been to many optometrist office/businesses over the years. I will comment on several aspects of this business. 1. How good are the optometrists? People visit a place like this usually to get an eye exam. The center of the practice depends on how good the actual eye doctors are (known as optometrists). There are a number of doctors in this practice and I've had the pleasure working with a few of them. They are pleasant people to interact with, especially Dr. Li but Dr. Spiewak as well. I would give the doctors a 4/5 rating. 2. How good are the staff (receptionists, assistants etc)? Couple of staff members have been here for a while. In my interactions with them they have been courteous and professional. Because the staff are likely commissioned on the sale of frames and lenses, they can sometimes be slightly pushy to sell you more. I would give them a 4/5 rating. 3. How good are the eyeglasses? Let's get to the meat of this review. The bulk of this business and most other optometrist offices comprise of the sale of glasses. That's where the profit is at. They have a very abundant selection of glasses, many of which are high-end designer frames. The climax of the story is the price. The frames of the glasses are marked up to ridiculous ranges. A pair of Ray Bands or other fancy frames could set you back 250-300 dollars instantly. Even if your insurance covers a portion of the cost associated with the frame, you still end up paying hundreds. To be fair, these designer frames are expensive no matter where you go because the retailers themselves have to pay a high price to obtain them. However, a visit to some other eyeglass businesses will show you a noticeable difference. If you thought that paying for the frames would be all that you'll spend, think again. What about the lenses? Doesn't the insurance pay for that? Not exactly. Many, if not most, insurances only pay for the basic lens. But what if you want the thin lenses (extremely common option)? What if you want anti-reflection (again, a very popular option especially for people who drive)? The fees they charge for the lenses are simply outlandish to say the least. Expect to pay more than $100 just for the lenses. Rating 1/5 Conclusion So why only two stars? As a few previous reviewers have mentioned, this establishment has one goal in mind: and that is to squeeze every last pinching penny out of each customer. Unfortunately for them, but cheers for the consumer, competition is getting stiffer from the gaining popularity of online retailers that threaten the very existence of brick and mortar optical business. This place is ridiculous. Since my appointment everything was a problem. I have waiting a month for my glasses, after calling 3 times checking to see if they were ready yet. Eventually they told me to come the next day, went, and the door said closed for the day. I even waited til 1 to see if someone would come because they said to pickup between 1-4. read more

I used to go here when I lived closer to the area. The front area looks small, and then they take you to the back and realize how much bigger the office really is. The doctor was friendly and explained everything to me in easy to understand terms. They had a lot of designer frames which I liked. They even pulled some more for me to look at, that weren't in the walls. I think it was the manager who helped me pick out frames. He gave me his honest opinion on what looked good on my wide face. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - I broke my glasses and needed to replace the lenses ASAP - Made an Appointment, called to confirm appointment the day of only to be told - oh sorry the dr will not be in today - they never even called to tell me!!! They rescheduled for the following week ( earliest they could fit me in) guess what - called me 2 hours before the appointment the Dr wasn't coming in again. Extremely irresponsible and incompetent receptionists! Worst customer service ever. Suppose to check the eligibility before the appointment, but they did not. Confirmed the appointment one day earlier, but only remember to check when I was there. It looks like that they don't know people at different place have different working schedule and there is always a chance that no one answers the phone. If you're thinking about getting glasses from here, think again. The wait was about a month for my glasses. I was happy to get them until I realized that they gave me the wrong prescription from the get-go. Now I have to wait another month because somebody screwed up. This isn't the first time i've been frustrated with them... from prescription glasses to insurance payment details, they really have no idea what the heck is going on. One of the ladies has serious attitude issues (she was yelling at other customers over the phone in the presence of other customers), and I nearly shelled out over $100 for my lens prescription until I questioned the fees. Service is slow as sin and you get the impression that nobody really knows what they're doing here. Glasses in-store are all extremely over-priced.. old stock and you can definitely find better on the internet (A friend saved 150$+ after finding the same pair of glasses elsewhere online). Remarkably slow turnaround, disorganization, having no clue what is going on, and price gouging makes this place hard to recommend to anyone. It looks nice, but look elsewhere. read more

Wow what horrendous staff. Fighting in front of customers. Non professional environment. They never called me to say my glasses were ready. I kept calling them to hear they didn't come in yet. Finally after 3 weeks I went in and they had them. The guy said they were laying around for weeks. Only reason I go here is because its one of the few places covered by my insurance. read more

The Doctors are frustrating to deal with . They are all very young kids out of college without much experience. Their machine is constantly fogging up so there is no real way to see the letters on the board. I have found that after multiple refractions of my eyes that I still can not see well. I had enough of this place when (I should note I have been wearing contact lenses for 17 years), I ordered contacts from them, and I actually saw the pricing book they were using. I saw how much my lenses cost per box. I have astigmatism so it costs more money and I absolutely saw the correct pricing. She even pointed it out to me in the book. I went home to discuss the cost with my husband, looked online and saw there was a rebate. Well I decided to pay the extra money to the Dr. office because in the past I have noticed that the Dr.'s will give you little perks for this stuff. Well, after she took my Credit Card info on the telephone, the girl at the front desk called to tell me that the pricing was wrong and it was going up by $10. per box. I told her that I wanted to know where the pricing came from and she told me that they legally didn't have to disclose that. Prior to this I purchased $600.00 in glasses for myself and 300.00 worth of glasses for my daughter a month earlier. I decided I would purchase my lenses online instead. This place is all about making money on the customer. I have noticed that the Dr.'s dont' last more than a year and I have never seen the Dr. who is the owner ever. I had been a patient for 3 years but because of their willingness to nickel and dime the customers, I decided to leave. Don't recommend at all. read more

Worst customer service ever. Noone is competent there. The receptionist charged me 98 dollars for an eye exam when my copay was supposed to be 50. When I brought it to the girls attention she acted like she was doing me a favor to fix it. Overall, I dealt with 3 people and they were all rude. The only polite person was the doctor. read more

Well they advertise that eye glasses will be ready in an hour. YEAH RIGHT! My daughter picked out a pair of glasses that she liked and we waited three weeks and never got her glasses. They finally called and said that there was a problem with the lenses and have to reorder them and it would be another week or two. I called my insurance company and complained as the glasses were needed cause my daughter's current ones got too strong. The customer service is terrible they never called back said my glasses would be ready later that day. But they told my insurance company it would take one or two more weeks to get them. They overcharged me and couldn't explain what the charge was for. I went to Walmart and bought glasses there. Much better customer service and they cover any breakage for one year with the kids package. Crown Eyecare wanted an additional $ 50.00 plan for a warranty there. I agree with Jessica W that this place is all about making money from the customer and not trying to accommodate them. I highly do not recommend them at all. read more

This place is a life saver! I was shopping in midstate mall with a friend and I started to rub my eyes and my contacts fell out. I did not bring my glasses like I usually do so I end up stopping by here. I was able to see the doctor right away. Dr. Li was very helpful and patient in explaining what I need on my glasses since I had sensitive eyes. And the sales person was very helpful (I think her name was Marcela). She helped picked a asian fit glasses for me and told me that my glasses was going to be ready in an hour which made me really excited. I went back in 45 minutes and surprisingly it was already ready. I was able to see and have a new pair of glasses! read more

Poor service. Doctors are nice to work with and do their job well. The staff however, is another story, very incompetent. Purchased 4 pairs of glass from this place, 2 for me and 2 for my husband. After a few months, my husband's frames broke on 1 pair of glasses and this company would not help us at all. I contacted the manufacturer and they told me that I need to contact the eye care place that we purchased from. No win situation, so my husband and I are out almost $300.00. After this experience, I would not recommend them to a homeless person. Really sad that many companies today do not stand behind the products they sell and will not go the extra mile to make a good reputation for themselves, so customers will go back again and recommend them. read more

The Doctor's were nice. The staff was beyond incompetent. Just let me walk around in circles not showing me the glasses. I waited two weeks for my glasses and 3 weeks for sunglasses, which the lens fell out two days later and I had to bring them back and now have to wait another week to get my sunglasses.
