My friend and I did a day trip to this area to go to Crown Maple along with a vineyard and a dairy farm... perfect to escape busy urban life. Here we did the tour and tasting and also had brunch. During weekends they have three tour/tasting sessions per day, so we arrived an hour before one of the tours so we could eat brunch. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is nice. We split the chicken and waffles (which comes with maple syrup AND maple infused butter) and the grilled cheese with tomato soup. We also got the iced coffee that is sweetened with maple syrup. Everything was delicious and portions were pretty good. I thought some of the prices were a little high considering its not waiter service (you order/pay at a counter and they bring your food). The tour and tasting lasted about 45 minutes and costs $10. Our tour guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She explained the history of Crown Maple and took us through the syrup making process. We got to see a few rooms with different equipment. The tasting was in a cute room that looks like a small bar. We got to try four different syrups... three of varying darkness and also the bourbon maple syrup (aged in bourbon barrels). You only try a very small amount. I would have liked to have tried their other infused syrups (vanilla and smokey) instead of three different plain ones. Overall the tour/tasting is definitely worthwhile. read more

We did the escapemaker tour and learned how the syrup is made. Then we tasted different kinds of syrups, such as amber, dark, and bourbon.They have a beautiful fireplace outside where you can sit after shopping for syrup and other farm made items. They had me at maple syrup tasting! Yes, you can have a free maple syrup tasting if you visit this maple syrup maker in southeastern Dutchess County, NY. Do not miss the bourbon barrel aged syrup! Sadly, the day we visited they were not doing any full-on tours of the operation, but we were able to taste the syrup, eat at the cafe, shop the gift shop and even take a short hike on the property to a nice view point. I ordered the turkey hash which was good but not great. However, I tasted my husbands pancakes and maple bacon which were AMAZING! Plus the drive there was very scenic. Worth a trip! read more

Came here with my family in mid December 2014 for a tour and tasting. The grounds and facility are absolutely beautiful, the tour was excellent, and the tasting was a lot of fun. It must have been a slow day when my siblings and I came for the tour, so we pretty much had a private tour and tasting. The staff was kind and accommodating, and we were able to roam the facility when the tasting was over. The syrup is outstanding... Definitely recommend the tasting if nothing else. The shop is fully stocked, so you're able to purchase any (all) of the syrup sampled in the tasting. We will be back! read more

Spent a lovely afternoon here on a cold snowy day. Upon arrival through the gates, we could see the quality and craftsmanship that went into building this facility. I can only imagine how beautiful the grounds are in the spring. When we entered, all the staff were very friendly. We ate lunch there and the quality of the food was outstanding, and even the pulled pork had been made with maple syrup. Local wines and beers were available. The hour long tour was very informative and we really enjoyed the tasting room and the samples. Again, this warrants a special visit. The grounds and building are beautiful..even the bathrooms were spectacular! I almost hate reviewing this place because I can easily see the crowds flocking here! read more

You want to love everything about this place but the preparation of food in the cafe has really gone downhill. We inquired as to why the pancakes and waffles were now not hot and freshly made and were told by the staff that they are pre-made at a kitchen 10 minutes away. Chicken fingers in the Chicken and Waffles used to be absolutely delicious now they are hard and cold. Salads are still very good but that is food that can travel well. The meals now appear to be be assembled rather than freshly prepared to order. Stick to a beverage, coffee and pastry and dine elsewhere like Mckinney&Doyle not too far away. We are devoted Crown Maple patrons and love this place and their products but unfortunately the cafe food does not match the Maple products and lovely atmosphere anymore. read more

The maple syrup is wonderful! However the only way I have to buy is online. The online store is terrible and only getting worse. Christmas shopping left me missing gifts, and just this month (March 2018) my order never arrived. They kept my money and never notified me. So I was left to investigate what happened on my own. My conclusion after many many orders, the online store is terribly managed and surely ruining the business. They have lost me as a customer. read more

We came to Crown Maple and had a tour of the facility as well as tasting. The tour lasted approximately 45 minutes. Jamie our tour guide was friendly and informative. They have a small café that sell sandwiches, drinks, beer and obviously syrup. The property is gorgeous. They provide maps so You can hike on the farm. read more

Loved this hidden gem in the woods. The maple latte is sooo good. We attended the free tour and had a late lunch for a birthday celebration. Free games and free marshmallow roasting were a bonus for the kids. Had lunch on the outdoor patio overlooking beautiful scenery. The food portion was unexpectedly small for the price. We ordered the regular sized chicken and waffles and it only came two pieces of chicken. Other than that, I would come again and again for the maple latte and beautiful nature! read more

Drove up from NYC yesterday for a day trip with some friends. We were the only ones at crowne maple when we arrived and received a private tour. It was great - the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and the tasting was delicious (4 types of syrups and their maple sugar). Some of my friends ate food from their cafe and said that was delicious as well. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area. The grounds looked beautiful but it was raining out so we weren't able to take a walk around. read more

The Crown Maple Syrup experience st Madava Farms is amaaazing! It reminded us of the best vineyard visit in Napa -- only with syrup! The facility is stunningly beautiful and immaculate. Our tour guide shared her passion for the land and the sap collecting and syrup making process with contagious enthusiasm. Lunch was delish and the gift shop a complete delight. I felt good just by being there. There was even a big fire pit out outside with marshmallows, sticks and a stunning view. All great details on a cold winter weekend. Well worth the day trip from NYC area and you we stopped at Hyde Park on the way. read more

What a wonderful experience! So close to me and I had no idea. Tour was terrific and the tastings were fantastic. Sprinkle some magic from our server Tyler who made sure our gourmet meal at the cafe was perfect, fireside with the view of the gorgeous grounds...some wine from the Hudson Valley and I will be singing the praises of this place for years to come! Very nice people working there. Very clean and beautiful facility. Cafe has delicious food but very small portions for the decent prices. The syrup is to die for especially the limited bourbon one. A nice day trip place with hiking trails as well. If you don't walk the trails and just tour and eat at the cafe expect about a 2 hour stay. Not much to do after the tour and eating if you don't walk the hiking trails. read more

Unfortunately, I did not get to do a tour on the day of my visit, but I would really like to in the future! Great product, beautiful place, but do NOT have a catered event there. Despite more than a year of planning and discussing the details ad infinitum, the food service for my wedding failed. Items were not served as discussed, other items I never ordered were brought out instead, empty serving platters went unbussed, one food station was never set up at all, no tablescaping of food tables -- I could go on, but you get the idea. While I don't think the failure was intentional, Crown Maple is unfortunately not equipped for a large catered event. It's unfortunate that the biggest night of my life had to be the proving ground for that. Again, great syrup, nice facilities ... just don't do the catering. read more

(Only thing I would like to see is we got the syrup coffee and no refills, even if it was regular coffee in an urn in the lunch area, would be nice). The tour was very informative. The syrup excels. Now that I don't work there anymore I can say I'd suggest staying away from Crown Maple Syrup. Not only is it very expensive, but they cut a lot of corners. Management, especially in bottling and shipping, is very incompetent and only worries about quantity of bottles and not the quality of the product. The machines are very poorly cleaned, the floors are always sticky and covered in all kinds of nasty stuff. They fly under the radar using "agriculture" loop holes to avoid having to meet safety and heath code regulations. When I first started there I took the rubber mats out to clean them, they looked like they had never been cleaned before. I brought it up to management and they just plain didn't care. I couldn't get them completely clean, and no one has tried since. The whole time I worked there, the down stairs area where all the product is stored before bottling was never once cleaned. The once white walls are yellowed, with streaks of unknown substance running down them. The water lines leak into a dirty barrel overflowing right next to the tub the syrup is heated up in. The hood over the tub they heat the syrup in never gets used or cleaned. It collects condensation that later drips back into the tub with who know what else from that dirty hood. Bottom line, if they didn't find loop holes to avoid inspection, the health department would shut that place down the minute the walked in the bottling room. read more
