I w give zero if could. the store policy is relativity good, 4 months to redeem. To my horror, i pawned a pair of mobi pearl earrings set in 14 k gold and diamonds. a set of gold disc earrings and a pineapple charm. They gave $180. signed pawn papers and got pink slip in March. I called to pick up items in April and was told they were sold. Incredible. No conversation was held that it was a sale or documents required for a sale by a pawn store at the time. No proof was given that I signed a sale. Be careful w this pawn store. they made no amends to pay me. They have no proof i signed a sale slip. I took small loan to get out quickly. The cost of my jewelry was well over $800 when purchased. Ripped me off. Be careful what papers they give you. I recommend you take cell photos of all your papers. read more

I had the same situation as Irina. Pawned 14k gold ring and I could definitely tell they shaved it a little bit because it feels rough on one side. I guess whoever shaved it didn't do a good job making it smoother. Anyways the employees are friendly and I'm sure they do good business in most regards but if you pawn jewelry here THEY WILL TRY to sneak a little off of it. It is a shame. I have been going to this shop for about 5 years now... Last time maybe a year or two ago... About 4 months ago, I have pawned 2 very expensive 18k gold items... I have picked them up today... I guess the management has changed (family owned), whoever has taken over is not nearly as trustworthy... I am never coming back. I think they have shaved a little from my 18K gold bracelet... so sad... No records keeping, the person who was giving me the items was a young white guy, rather short... very sketchy... When I asked to weigh my item I suspected of being compromised, he never even showed me what the scales said... Be careful.... read more

I love Crown because I love a good deal and a family-run company that gets to know their customers. Pros: 1. Quality over quantity. Located on 14th street so the space is small, but there's still plenty of variety. As an example, we went to FOUR other pawn shops looking for a simple gold band. It sounds easy but no one else had the right size (all huge or tiny) or they only had huge stones. Crown to the rescue! Beside jewelry, there's tools, electronics, musical instruments. The whole gamut. 2. Awesome customer service. 3. Great return policy. The only con for me is that beside normal business hours Monday through Friday, they are only open on the first Saturday out of each month. I mean, I get it, from what I've seen the owners are always there taking care of business, and they deserve their weekend as well. Also my wallet probably appreciates it. read more

I'm in the market for an acoustic guitar, and to that end, I stopped by here twice this week. They keep about ten on display at a time. The staff were friendly and encouraged me to take my time and get to know the guitars, to be sure I would be happy and confident in any purchase I made. I ended up deciding not to walk away with a guitar just yet, although I came close! They didn't pressure me at all to make a purchase. Instead, the staff gave me a business card and encouraged me to come back in another time and see if perhaps the right guitar for me might show up there eventually. The inventory is well-organized, and there is a ton of musical instruments and gear. The selection of electric guitars, for example, was much larger than the number of acoustics, so if you're in the market for an electric, this might be a good place to visit, especially since for whatever reason there are not that many music stores in the District. I will say that this shop is located on a fairly fancy strip in a gentrified and pricey part of D.C., and the prices seem to reflect that somewhat. Nothing was outrageous, but at least for acoustics, the prices were generally well on the "upper" end of what would be reasonable to pay. As with anything, it's important to be an informed consumer, especially when purchasing items that are used, and to have a clear understanding of the worth of the instruments, and of what you are willing to pay. All in all, I was pleased with my experience and would consider coming back. read more

Good selection of camera equipment that I might check out in the future. this place is horrible. there's a saying that people at Crown Pawnbrokers have never heard in their lives...which is strange for people all over 40, but its "it's not what you say, it's how you say it." Everyone was extremely rude and disgusting (except one E African woman) especially the male towards the back. I've let my entire network (& those who have businesses on that very street, and will speak to management and the landlord) know about my time there. I hope the BBB knows about how they treat their customers. There's another saying that the people at CP have never heard in their lives...its "without the customers, they don't have a business." The management should seriously consider having multiple trainings to improve their HORRIBLE customer service. read more

I know that it's kind of weird to sell things at pawn shops, but I can't help it. I have a small apartment, leave me alone. This is really the best pawn shop in Washington, D.C. The staff is comprised of nice, normal people -- not crazy big scary dudes like on all the reality TV shows about pawn shops. I have sold jewelry here and they offer very fair pricing. Just don't come in here thinking you're going to get exactly what the jewelry is worth of course. No one wants to pay full price for used jewelry. This is a really convenient location, too. You can take the money you got from selling your stuff and go right over to St. Ex to get yourself drunk. Just kidding, put it in your savings account. read more

Right on 14th Street, NW...a couple blocks from the U Street corridor and Logan Circle neighborhoods. Not a bad walk from the metro. This is a great family owned small business that has been around since the 1930's! The staff is super nice and very knowledgable about merchandise. I bought a digital camera and a GPS that came in their original packaging. I got them for resonable prices and have had them for almost a year now. They are very thorough inspecting any merchandise that is brought to them to resell. I highly recommending stopping in to check it out, you'll definitely want to stop back in! read more

The most historic pawn shop in DC. A true DC landmark. In my personal opinion the pawn shop is very awesome. They have a wide array of inventory and have some fantastic guitars in stock. Very warm and friendly customer service always helpful. If you don't know how a pawn shop works just ask them don't assume what you see on TV is real. I gave this place a second star because they do have some interesting things coming through and it looks like they have pretty cheap DVDs, although I have never bought any. But all in all, I am not a fan. Found a guitar pedal that I wanted once, asked the guy about it. He set it up (def not a simple thing to do in the context). I did not know much about it, but had been researching similar pedals. The price was good (not amazing, but good). The guy who owns (? runs? manages?) this place did the set up. He then proceeded to watch me the entire time that I was playing with the thing. It was hooked up to two cables, a bass, an amp and the wall. It is not like I was looking at rings and he was worried I was going to run out with them. This thing was not going anywhere easy. I had no idea how to use it, and if he had been cool, and wanted to help me figure it out, I almost certainly would have bought it. Instead he just watched me suspiciously. I really did not like this place. Also, on their website, they say that they are open on Saturdays. Went there once and they were locked shut. (It actually happened to me twice, the first time I thought it was a fluke, but nope. They do what they want I guess at this place.) read more

Don't bother. I went to Crown Pawnbrokers to sell my 1 carat diamond ring. The rude, blond-haired lady gave me a cheap sales pitch and offered me $400 for my $3,000 ring. I declined to sell the ring, but I did sell 2 pairs of earrings. After giving her my ID information, including my credit card, she refused to give me a copy of the paperwork I signed. Take my advice: go to a reputable jeweller in a safe area who values excellent customer service. Crown Pawnbrokers has also been reported to the Better Business Bureau. read more
