Again, the food is excellent with a variety of exotic flavors. The service is fast and friendly. The noise level is crazy though. It's very loud but we will come back again because it's worth it.

Here's to more dim sum and Chinese banquet style dinners! Crown Seafood is still thriving in Chinatown and continues to serve dim sum brunch, lunch, and dinner with a large variety of Chinese food including all kinds of meat, veggies, and seafood. Find traditional Cantonese style dishes here that involve steaming, stir-frying, braising, or roasting... more than most large Chinese restaurants in the area. After my last review from 2016 (yes, a whole decade ago!), a re-evaluation is much needed. In the past decade, I've noticed that several restaurants in Chinatown have opened and closed. To survive and succeed in the food & beverage industry is not easy, but Crown Seafood is still going strong. Nothing much has changed except for the exterior design of their building. They still serve the same quality of food consistently and service is good albeit a bit rushed. The dim sum is something I often recommend to friends and family visiting or locals who want to devour these small, bite-sized dishes. I wouldn't claim this is the place for the best Chinese style seafood, but it is very consistent and definitely satisfies the craving. The stir-fried dishes have the right kind of charred aroma aka wok hei which may or may not be satisfactory at other restaurants. I'm just glad that they seem to be doing great and continue to serve our community.

This review is long overdue. Crown Seafood is one of my go-to to places for dim sum. Best time to arrive is 11am on a weekend. Didn't realize there was construction at the entrance, so I couldn't find the place for a moment! Crown Seafood is spacious and I always like glancing at the pretty light fixtures! You write down your order and the waiter takes the paper. Service was prompt and food gradually came out quickly. - ha cao (steamed shrimp dumpling, they don't skimp out on the shrimp filling!) - shrimp xiu mai - banh cuon tom (rice noodle w/ shrimp) - Fried taro puff - Fried shrimp & pork puff (mochi like texture) - cai lan dau hao (Chinese broccoli w/ oyster sauce) - Fried shrimp ball (crispy/hot!) I'll be back whenever I have another dim sum craving haha.

I usually go here for dim sum right when they open. They're pretty consistent with their dishes and the prices are reasonable. Despite them being very busy especially on the weekends, the service is still pretty fast. Also, the space is surprisingly very spacious and looks even bigger from the inside. For the food, I recommend getting the typical popular dishes. One down side is I wish the Xiao long bao is more soupy/juicier but that could be a personal preference.

I came to Crown Seafood Restaurant 金冠海鲜酒家 to get some pictures with dumplings. It's been too long since I stopped by last. I ordered a cup of Tonic Soup, Lava Bun 流沙包 and the Imitation Shark Fin Dumplings 香茜鱼翅饺 to eat in and Vegetarian Egg Rolls. I also ordered Beef Flat Rice Noodles 鼓椒牛河 to go. The soup, bun and dumplings were good. I went home to find out the noodles were all broken apart. Not sure if that's how it should be. The flavor was good though. Service was okay as I came in after their lunch rush on a Sunday afternoon. Looked like they were changing shift and eating lunch. My food came out pretty quick. Oh, they charged me $2 for a pot of hot water. Ughhhh

Was home from Austin so I wanted to grab some legit dim sum while I was in town. We came around 1130 on Sunday and waited about 30 minutes for a table. This place did not have the dim sum carts which was a huge disappointment. However, the dim sum we ordered were all pretty good. The service was a bit lacking. I decided to add xiao long bao after our initial order and they had forgotten about it for 15 minutes. When we asked to go ahead and cancel the xiao long bao, they brought it right out. I would like to try another dim sum place with the carts next time I'm in town.

Exceptional dim sum place with very spacious interior having many tables (almost like a ballroom or convention center size) and great service. Usually meet up with my family in Houston (cousins, uncles and aunts) for Thanksgiving pre-lunch and was in town during March so met up with them there. As you can see their selection is great, a spread including rice rolls, dumplings, fried rice, shu mai and more. Highly recommended!

We like the ambiance - this is a big restaurant with high ceilings and plenty of seating. Tables are quite far apart. It looks clean and relatively modern by Chinatown standards. It's a great place to hang out with friends to chit chat, as there's plenty of seating. The service is quick and efficient - no complaints there. We have been here multiple times for dim sum and food. Prices are decent, but the dim sum just isn't as tasty as other options in Chinatown.

Came out to Crown Seafood for a saturday brunch with a friend right at opening time, and there were already people seated! Entering in, the large dining room is nicely decorated and within an hour, the place was packed with a wait so come early or be prepared if you're coming on a weekend. Because it was just me and my friend, we didn't order too much but some highlights would be the shu mai and the baked bbq pork buns! The soup dumpling had a thicker wrapper than I would've liked so I would actually recommend trying the other dumplings. Also, we ordered shrimp har gow which never came but was added to my bill. They were kind when I asked them about the mistake and luckily we didn't order too much so it was an easy fix. Overall, not a bad dim sum spot and is definitely one of the more well known ones in Houston. Just a warning, no dim sum carts here for the most part!

The taro puff and steamed egg custard buns were sooo gooodd! Everything else was pleasant as well. I came during lunar new year sunday and the wait was kind of long but well worth it. The food came out so quick and the service was attentive. The ambiance was very family friendly. I would come here again.

TL;DR: This is my new top dimsum place in Houston. I don't often get a dimsum craving, but it hits at least once a year. Now that I've found this place, maybe I'd come more often. After about a 20 minute wait on Memorial Day wknd Sunday at noon, we sat far in the back of the restaurant. This apparently is the cheat key to getting the freshest food possible, right as the dishes come rolling out of the kitchen. The service is prompt, as employees power walk with carts toward faces lighting up and necks craning to see which delicacies are joining them next - more celebrated than the models on runways at NYFW and surely with more step counts to boot. The table arrangements themselves create runways of sorts for the carts to roll through, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant is bright, uncluttered, and clean despite its size and the number of patrons that come through. We got and would get again: - Steamed shrimp xiumai 5/5 - Deep fried taro puff 4.75/5 - Sticky rice with meat in lotus leaf 4.5/5 - Steamed mushroom chicken bun 4.5/5 Would not get again: - Steamed rice noodle with beef brisket 2/5 - Steamed mini bun (xiaolongbao) 1/5 - Oolong tea at $1.50/person - will get jasmine instead, because - what was I thinking. I think changfen (steamed rice noodle) may not be a strong suit of this place. I'll try another changfen dish before sticking with that sentiment. And instead would try: - Stuffed tofu - Fried turnip cake - Fried tofu skin - Maybe the fried crab claws The steamed buns were soft, the fried taro puff was crispy, and everything (even the reheated or previously-frozen stuff like beef belly/brisket or sticky rice) was served hot. We'll be back.

I love the dimsum here because the quality is very consistent and very affordable. Chicken feet (5/5): very flavorful, done well and big enough Pork and Shrimp Shumai (4/5): very delicious. I should have given them a 5/5. But I have had a lot of good dimsum and pretty picky about it. Taro puff (4/5): hot and crunchy but a little bit too dry. Shrimp rice roll (5/5): texture and flavor is great Stir fried egg noodle (1/5): they gave us a huge plate for $7 but it was flavorless, oily and undercooked. Chicken sticky rice in lotus leaf(3.5/5): sticky rice has a good texture and flavor, but the filling is chicken so it is pretty underwhelming. It would be better if there's pork belly and salted egg Scallion and Ginger Lobster (2/5): lobsters aren't fresh. Not much flavor and very underwhelming

Here today! I had the pleasure of visiting Crown Seafood Restaurant because of the Celebrity Chef Event the weekend aka Southern Smoked Festival held Annually, I privately transported culinary chiefs out to dinner and this is where 50% of them dined for the evening and so did I! The restaurant is located on the west side of Houston known as "China town" and on Friday nights it's a busy area, actually it's busy most days and nights. Anywho, China Town is known to have the best in Asian cuisine per tourists and last year I brought them to the area to another restaurant ( This is yet another reason why I love Houston y'all) If it's popular to them.....yuuup I'm eating here as well. The restaurant is a huge banquet building with many, many round tables after looking at the menu and seeing other diners PING the light bulbs in my mind went off....Asians frequently dine as family's and eat buffet style. The menu offered 2 pages of group food options to share, my bad I wasn't thinking about Yelping when I ordered ya girl was hungryyyy. I ordered Spicy Singapore Rice Noodles with shrimp and customized it with vegetables, shoots I was starving I forgot to ask for eggs. When they presented me with my dish, I looked at the chair next to me and asked the invisible man if he wanted to share hahahaha! It was delicious.....DEEELICIOUS I tell you. I sat at my table alone watched a movie and ate EVERY last bite. Out of respect for my guests and complimentary Lexus Suv, I didn't want to smell up the truck (as a chauffeur its part of etiquette) and absolutely I WAS NOT throwing away JACK :)). If you look at my plate, they did not hold back on the shrimp at taulll! Spicy but not too spicy, however a little dry tho. Still 5 star dish and 5 star service. Here today and YUZZZ would return tomorrow!

Not pictured were the Peking Pork Ribs which were phenomenal! Crispy on the outside, flavorful, sweet, and tender. I was eating that dish like candy. Throughout the meal, our plates were exchanged for new ones, which was super helpful in starting clean again. The price point at Fung's may be more expensive than other Chinese restaurants, but this is definitely an elevated dining experience with consistently high quality food and presentation!

We came with a group of 18 people, and the bill ended up being around $972. Unfortunately, most of the dishes were more impressive visually than flavor-wise. The colorful green fried rice looked unique, but honestly just tasted like regular fried rice. The green beans were overcooked, so they lost the crunch and sweetness that usually make that dish enjoyable. The green curry was extremely spicy, but outside of the heat, it wasn't very memorable. The shaking beef dish looked amazing presentation-wise, but the sauce was too sweet for a savory dish, and the crispy rice pairing just didn't work well for me. I initially thought the duck dish was Peking duck, but it was actually the Jasmine Tea Smoked Duck. Even so, everyone at my table agreed we still preferred the traditional Peking duck style. The duck itself lacked flavor for us, and the skin was soft instead of having the crisp texture we were hoping for. The only dishes I genuinely enjoyed were the soup dumplings, cucumber salad, and fried dumplings. Most of the other dishes at the table were barely touched. If you're looking for colorful, aesthetically pleasing food and great presentation, you may enjoy this place. But if flavor is your main priority, this spot just wasn't for me personally.

Sadly, it seems like those days are long gone as the latter is on a downhill slope. Has ownership changed? (#1) I'm not sure, but so much else has. There's no tea offered, but bottled water. Service and the kitchen staff is a mess where it's most evident during their busiest hours. At one point, Cantonese was spoken but it also seems that's no longer the case. Previously the food was passable, but now it's near abysmal. Siu mai was hearty, but fairly bland. The same applies to their spare ribs (排骨), beef balls (牛肉球), and steamed glutinous rice in leaf (糯米雞). I felt their custard buns (奶黃包), fried stuffed crab claw (釀蟹鉗), fried glutinous dumpling (鹹水角) and the turnip cake (蘿蔔糕) were dried out. While the shrimp dumplings (蝦餃) and rice rolls (腸粉) mostly passed the test, it needed lots of soy sauce + condiments to be worth it. The only winner was their beef chow fun (乾炒牛河), where the beef and ho fun noodles were tender, while also being adequately greasy. The bonus bits of fried egg within were a nice surprise. While the prices range from $3.75-$9.70, a majority of it will average out to be $5-6 a dish. This isn't a terrible deal per se, especially during these times. However, it is a big price to pay for service issues and sub-par quality dim sum. Don't be fooled by its English name, you will not be eating Shanghainese food here: this is a traditional Cantonese restaurant. In typical Chinese American fashion, we had the "adult" table and of course we sat at the "kids" table. We ordered the classics as pictured. The food is always tasty and consistent. Service is friendly and the even though this spot is no frills, it is a familiar place with a very family-centered atmosphere. You can not go wrong with old reliable. If you are ever craving authentic, traditional Cantonese cooking without the large, dim sum hybrid model, I definitely recommend this place. Perfect for lunch with coworkers, by yourself, and great for larger dinners with the whole family.

We had eaten here years ago before the whole shopping center was remodeled. We arrived around 5:00 PM for dinner and were seated quickly. The food came out fairly quickly and was flavorful. It was four of us so we ordered: Hot & Sour Soup, Beef with Bitter Mellon, Beef Flat Rice Noodle (dry), Cantonese Sweet & Sour Pork (with pineapple) I was impressed how silky and tender the beef was. The sweet & sour was perfect lightly battered and crispy. The hot & sour could've been a bit more sour but had a small kick to it. It was perfect for my parents, but my husband and I had to add some chili oil & soy sauce for more flavor. The quality of the food 9/10, the price was a bit on the pricey side for the portions of the dishes. The hot & sour soup was $17! It wasn't anything special about it. I thought it was a bit steep for a family size, but I guess good service made up for it. I'm not sure if they were offering Chinese New Year specials, but within an hour there were several big parties with reservations. I recommend this place for authentic Cantonese Chinese food. It's rare to find good food and good service!

Look no further for authenticity, flavor, and complexity in Chinese cooking near the med center!…read more Though we opted for more "simple" dishes during this experience, you can judge a place by if they can do their simple dishes well. The mapo tofu is one of the best we've had outside of Bellaire with spicy, savory, numbing, and warmth that you expect from a good mapo tofu. Crispy popcorn chicken is a classic that's spicy, lightly fried, and crisp. It has an authenticity that other places around can't replicate and makes you keep craving more. The portions are also appropriate for their price. Service is incredibly quick, and you can order as you go and receive your dish within 10-15 minutes, regardless of how busy they are. As for the ambiance, it's loud, it's hectic, and it's simple... maybe a stretch, but makes me feel like I'm eating at a mom and pop shop in the heart of China. This place is definitely a go to if I'm convincing a friend of Houston's great food scene! Rating: 4.5/5
