Two foodies from Houston, Back to our favorite place for Dim Sum. We've been coming for years. Seen their various phases and remodel. Ask for Judy, she is amazing. Always helpful, friendly, and professional.

Solid no-frills, busy dim sum place in Chinatown. Massive 2 story restaurant with a moat surrounding it. In terms of food, they deliver on all the classics like the har gow and pork ribs in black bean sauce. The noodle rolls were a little too thick for my liking, and the truffle pork soup dumplings didn't really taste like truffle (and were almost double the price of normal soup dumplings !!). Overall I would come here again, but not overly impressed.

Finally decided to try dimsum here-- think I was reminisicing my Hong Kong trip a little too much... Side note: after eating dimsum in HK, honestly nothing will top it. BUT. It doesn't mean it was terrible. I think the issue was that I came at around 3PM and some of the baked options were sold out. It bummed me out because you'd think they'd know their popular menu items and keep it available throughout the day...but lesson learned! I always, always, always get the crab claw anytime I see it. But this was a big letdown. It didn't taste fresh, it gave throwing it in the oven to reheat after a day or two. The worst one on the table had to be the turnip cake. It was super bland and it had the biggest portion out of everything. My favorite had to be the fried shrimp chive dumplings. I've only ever been aware of the steamed version and had no idea there's a fried version out there. It was fried at the right temperature with just enough filling and very flavorful. The shrimp dumpling and rice roll shrimp was also good; I feel like those two, you can't ever go wrong ordering them from any dimsum spot. Venue was clean and spacious, I'll definitely return again in the early morning hours next time so I can try out the sold out items I didn't get to try!

Serious dim sum here and I'm a serious lover So welcoming and everyone was so friendly and helpful Server told me right away how to get $8 off my first order from joining the rewards club, so I did! Everything we ordered was fresh, tasty, hot, and the portions were very reasonable Rice noodles with lack bean sauce, shrimp steam rice rolls, bbq boa, they ran out of the baked, which is hard to find. Congee was great, not to overpowering in flavor. The fish was not fishy Prices added up but items were comparable to elsewhere Yes even the restrooms were clean. Def returning when in the hood. Easy to spot, this huge building

Very average experience. Came here to try dim sum. I didn't really enjoy any of them. Tried the normal dumplings, fried dumplings, eggplant shrimp, duck, spring rolls, nothing I'd come back to. Even the noodles, it was okay, but I've had plenty better. Maybe I missed some special dishes, but overall I have nothing I tried that I liked. Service was decent, and the restaurant is huge. Fancy type of seating and interior, plenty of parking around but it can get very busy.

This is a Bellaire Chinatown staple for good reason. I've been coming to this restaurant for as long as I can remember. From family celebrations to weekend dim sum, it has remained consistent in quality throughout all of it. I can't believe that this is my first time writing a Yelp review about the place. I came with my mom for a late Friday afternoon dim sum. If there is one nitpicky critique, it's that the outside of the restaurant has been in better conditions. You can see the rust. The fountains don't run as often. The walls could use a new paintjob. These aren't really things that matter much for me, but if I had to point out something for the sake of it, this would be it. We were quickly seated. I like that Ocean Palace not only offers the standard mark your order sheet but they also do pictures. Highly recommend for dim sum newbies. Once we got everything selected, the food came out at reasonable times. Chicken feet - Great texture with the gelatinous skin, cartilage, and tendons. Flavor was solid. Could be more spicy with personal taste Shrimp cheung fun - Awesome! The shrimp and seafood soy sauce provided the perfect amount of sweetness to the dish Dried shrimp cheung fun - Good as well. Althought I prefer the former, this was still really good. Not as sweet since it's dried shrimp, it's a bit more savory. Chinese sticky rice aka Lo Mai Gai - Solid. It comes in two. Rice with all the minced meat and other savory goodies (mushrooms and sausage most notable) was flavorful and came in a fine balance of gelatinous and texture of separated rice. Steamed custard buns - Bun soft. Custard warm. No other words needed. Truffle shu mai - Comes in four. Strong truffle flavor. Slightly more upscale version of a dim sum classic. Recommend! The last thing that I'll note is the service. All of the wait staff was extremely kind and helpful. Our waitress was very proactive in helping us signing up for the rewards club so that we could get $8 off our order today. Everything ended up being about $40 total. All in all, highly recommend. This is one of those places where the question isn't "whether I will come back" but "when will I come back".

The last time I was here, it was years ago. Today I woke up with the craving for dim sum from Ocean Palace, so here I am. There are typical dishes that I will get in a dim sum place - har gow, pork and century egg congee, rice rolls, buns, pan fried flat rice noodles, and tofu pudding. I had those dishes and they were ok. The har gow could use fresher and bigger shrimps. The congee lacked ginger in it, but the texture was good. The rice rolls weren't smooth and thin enough. The flat rice noodles and tofu pudding were good. As for the matcha bun, the matcha was only at the top of the bun. There wasn't any matcha taste, and there should be lava custard inside but mine was dry. Also had the tofu skin roll which was very oily. The service was good and quick. The restaurant would get very noisy, and it would be difficult to talk without letting tables near you hear about your conversation. The restaurant is very popular. I highly recommend getting onto their waitlist, which is available on their website, from the time you set off.

Ordered Sui Mai, Shrimp rice noodle, Congee with century egg, Har Gow, Chinese broccoli, Fried crab claw, Fried shrimp with chives, Chicken Feet, Peking roast duck Loved the food options and variety. Also loved that some options are in the traditional carts and the rest are to be ordered thru paper menu

Too overpriced for something that is "ok" at best. This is an OG dimsum place in the heart of the Town Bellaire. You typically don't expect service to hit flying colors, but the culture is that you do expect the food to speak for itself. We ordered dim sum and it was quite the disappointment. **Chinese broccoli (gai lan) with oyster sauce: huge disappointment. Traditionally served as blanched Chinese broccoli in oil and toss in oyster sauce. However, it was served as steamed with oyster sauce on the side. This is incredibly lazy on part of kitchen staff! **Shui Mai: it was okay, nothing to really write home about. **Hai Cao: likewise, met expectations but definitely was not wowed. ** Chung Fung rice rolled in chinese donut: a very unique dish that I don't often see in most dim sum places. The interior crunch of the Chinese donut held its own very well. The dipping sauce provided complimented the flavoring profile. Otherwise, still very spacious environment with plenty of seating options. Dishes came out relatively fast but this is to be expected since dim sum is typically pre-made.

It looks like it's floating on the water!

Dimsum for lunch in Houston, Texas... The business page for Ocean Palace had beautiful, intriguing photos on my Yelp app. I showed my family and they agreed. My niece had been here before since she's a student at Rice University... and she approved! Dimsum is a feast type of meal where everyone gets a little of everything. There's something for everyone! I liked the savory dumplings with chives - the pan-fried ones were better than the steamed ones, in my opinion. Some people like the sweet selections like the custard tarts (don tot)... these were just ok for me. The crust could be better. I prefer a crisper, flakes crust. My niece's favorite are the cream-filled buns. I honestly could pass on those... The shrimp dumplings (ha gow) were average while the pork ones (siu mai) were surprisingly more tasty than the shrimp! The sticky rice in lotus leaves was delicious! Turnip cakes were ok while the taro puffs were excellent! The pot of hot jasmine tea was great - along with the attentive service! Our water glasses were filled without needing to ask. Our used dishes were removed promptly. We enjoyed the spacious, elegant environment! The live seafood in the tanks were amazing! We appreciated the convenient restroom... and complimentary mints in the basket as we were leaving!

We visited twice for weekday dim sum and were impressed. If I lived in Houston, this would be my go-to dim sum spot. Ordered the usual suspects such as pork and preserved egg congee, Chinese broccoli, shrimp dumpling, pan fried turnip cake, rice noodle roll with beef, fried taro puff, pork & peanut dumpling, tofu pork roll with oyster sauce. Everything was served hot, tasted fresh and quite delicious. Restaurant was spacious and very clean. Service and quick and efficient. Would love to try more items next time, including their Dungeness crab and lobster preparations.

This place was amazing. The outside is one of a kind. The inside was spectacular. The waitresses are multilingual and their service is wonderful. The food is amazing!! You have to try it out yourself. My favorite was chicken feet and shrimp cheung fun!! Like I miss the cheung fun so much right now. I wanted more but my stomach did not have room for more. They also do peking duck togo it's a full duck so be sure to have enough people or it's a deluxe leftover for a few days. Please share your thoughts.

They opened up the kitchen so you can see it now

Now I know something's up. Even the bathrooms are clean! And More non-Asians working here this weekend. They had Peking duck for a Small stamp. Just a sampler but good for someone who wants to try but not commit to the whole duck. Only on the weekends.

BEEF & VEGETABLE Not a single vegetable in sight, unless you count the green onions and bean sprouts. This is probably one of the most well-known Cantonese classics with its strong "wok hay" flavor. The rice noodles had the perfect texture and there was a generous amount of beef stir-fried in. While it's many people's favorites, it's always a bit too oily that I would like (and that oil is almost necessary for good flavor). I recommend it if you want a safe staple, but I would encourage trying something else. We basically ordered the Cantonese classics and it was so delicious and more than what the 5 of us could finish. I highly recommend this restaurant for Cantonese food. The interior is your typical mom-and-pop restaurant, 80's/90's-style decor. It's not fancy, but the food is exceptional.

Of course I asked my most trusted Yelp Elite, where do you enjoy Peking duck? He gave me three places, and said, "I love everything at east wall actually lol". My non-Asian, and non-Jewish bf was so eager for our dinner plans. When we got into our booth, he did a bit of a dance in his seat! When we got our first order, he was practically a Super Bowl fan who just got the food spread and the game started. It was so endearing! The place was CROWDED inside and outside. The other patrons were nice, very decent people of all kinds of heritage. Food: My Yelp Elite friend's food discernment is still well-attuned! Would not score anything under an 8/10. We ordered the walnut shrimp (8/10), Peking duck (10/10), wonton soup (9/10), Asian broccoli (9/10). Service: Solidly good. They accepted reservations, including for the duck on such a popular day/lots of people. The hostess kept good track of who's next and how long wait is, etc. The rest of staff were pleasant but also getting the job done in good time. The cooks -- how do you stay reliably good on such a day?! Ambiance: Nice for dinner! Despite the crowd, and likely the long day for the employees. Romantically lit enough interior. Felt good. Perfect night. It was so perfect, as we loaded into vehicle, my bf proclaimed this can be our tradition. And we gotta come back for this and this and this and this and this.... I wholeheartedly agree.

Don't be fooled by its English name, you will not be eating Shanghainese food here: this is a traditional Cantonese restaurant. In typical Chinese American fashion, we had the "adult" table and of course we sat at the "kids" table. We ordered the classics as pictured. The food is always tasty and consistent. Service is friendly and the even though this spot is no frills, it is a familiar place with a very family-centered atmosphere. You can not go wrong with old reliable. If you are ever craving authentic, traditional Cantonese cooking without the large, dim sum hybrid model, I definitely recommend this place. Perfect for lunch with coworkers, by yourself, and great for larger dinners with the whole family.

We had eaten here years ago before the whole shopping center was remodeled. We arrived around 5:00 PM for dinner and were seated quickly. The food came out fairly quickly and was flavorful. It was four of us so we ordered: Hot & Sour Soup, Beef with Bitter Mellon, Beef Flat Rice Noodle (dry), Cantonese Sweet & Sour Pork (with pineapple) I was impressed how silky and tender the beef was. The sweet & sour was perfect lightly battered and crispy. The hot & sour could've been a bit more sour but had a small kick to it. It was perfect for my parents, but my husband and I had to add some chili oil & soy sauce for more flavor. The quality of the food 9/10, the price was a bit on the pricey side for the portions of the dishes. The hot & sour soup was $17! It wasn't anything special about it. I thought it was a bit steep for a family size, but I guess good service made up for it. I'm not sure if they were offering Chinese New Year specials, but within an hour there were several big parties with reservations. I recommend this place for authentic Cantonese Chinese food. It's rare to find good food and good service!

The food: Beef brisket noodle rolls- A must! The brisket is tender, and the rice rolls are a perfect texture. Popcorn chicken- Crispy and served piping hot! It could use more fried basil, but that's just me. Eel & roasted pork combo- Perfect "surf n turf" combo served with a good portion of rice, egg, and baby bok choy. Spareribs w/black bean sauce- Average. I couldn't really taste the black bean flavor. Also served with rice, egg, and baby bok choy. If you are in the mood for Cantonese food, this is the place! Service is efficient and speedy. Prices are reasonable, and they are conveniently located in the Hmart shopping plaza on Bellaire Blvd. The vibe is casual, but not a place I would linger too long for conversation since it's somewhat loud when it's a full house.

It felt very authentic. The service was fine and the quickly took my food order. It does take some time to come out, so I believe they cook everything fresh. The food came out scorching hot. Everything we ordered was HOT. My rice bowl came with ginseng soup. The soup was ok. It tasted good and slightly bitter (which I didn't mind), but what was off-putting was the meat inside. It was cut up, black skin, and hard to eat as it had lots of bones. The soup was also too hot to eat. I really enjoyed the chicken wings. It had a nice flavor but again, SCORCHING HOT.
