This is by far the best dim sum spot in Houston and a must visit for any first-timers in the city. Palace is in the name because it is exactly that. Once you walk in, you just notice how grand everything is. It feels like walking into a luxurious banquet hall and has a very professional vibe. All the staff members are so kind and attentive that good service is not a concern at all. Dimsum is one of my favorite cuisines and this place does not disappoint. Every single one of their items are so good and perfectly cooked. The scale of their menu is also to be commended cause it seems insane for every single food item to be a hit. Solid no-frills, busy dim sum place in Chinatown. Massive 2 story restaurant with a moat surrounding it. In terms of food, they deliver on all the classics like the har gow and pork ribs in black bean sauce. The noodle rolls were a little too thick for my liking, and the truffle pork soup dumplings didn't really taste like truffle (and were almost double the price of normal soup dumplings !!). Finally decided to try dimsum here-- think I was reminisicing my Hong Kong trip a little too much... Side note: after eating dimsum in HK, honestly nothing will top it. BUT. It doesn't mean it was terrible. I think the issue was that I came at around 3PM and some of the baked options were sold out. It bummed me out because you'd think they'd know their popular menu items and keep it available throughout the day...but lesson learned! I always, always, always get the crab claw anytime I see it. But this was a big letdown. It didn't taste fresh, it gave throwing it in the oven to reheat after a day or two. The worst one on the table had to be the turnip cake. It was super bland and it had the biggest portion out of everything. My favorite had to be the fried shrimp chive dumplings. I've only ever been aware of the steamed version and had no idea there's a fried version out there. It was fried at the right temperature with just enough filling and very flavorful. The shrimp dumpling and rice roll shrimp was also good; I feel like those two, you can't ever go wrong ordering them from any dimsum spot. From family celebrations to weekend dim sum, it has remained consistent in quality throughout all of it. I can't believe that this is my first time writing a Yelp review about the place. The fountains don't run as often. The walls could use a new paintjob. These aren't really things that matter much for me, but if I had to point out something for the sake of it, this would be it. Althought I prefer the former, this was still really good. Not as sweet since it's dried shrimp, it's a bit more savory. Chinese sticky rice aka Lo Mai Gai - Solid. It comes in two. Rice with all the minced meat and other savory goodies (mushrooms and sausage most notable) was flavorful and came in a fine balance of gelatinous and texture of separated rice. Steamed custard buns - Bun soft. Custard warm. No other words needed. Truffle shu mai - Comes in four. Strong truffle flavor. Slightly more upscale version of a dim sum classic. Recommend! The last thing that I'll note is the service. All of the wait staff was extremely kind and helpful. Our waitress was very proactive in helping us signing up for the rewards club so that we could get $8 off our order today. Everything ended up being about $40 total. All in all, highly recommend. We love this place for Dim Sum. The food is great and the service is wonderful. Today we had a server named Tony and he was absolutely the best one yet. We had the normals for us dumplings, shrimp flat noodle, baked and steamed pork bao, green beans, and some fried pork things. Each item was fresh and delicious. If I had to say one thing negative, I don't like the tables they put right where you walk in when they are seating you. We've sat there before and not only do you get the people just coming in but it is extremely cold in that area. The last time we sat there we could feel a breeze and our food got cold very fast. The last time I was here, it was years ago. Today I woke up with the craving for dim sum from Ocean Palace, so here I am. There are typical dishes that I will get in a dim sum place - har gow, pork and century egg congee, rice rolls, buns, pan fried flat rice noodles, and tofu pudding. I had those dishes and they were ok. The har gow could use fresher and bigger shrimps. The congee lacked ginger in it, but the texture was good. The rice rolls weren't smooth and thin enough. The flat rice noodles and tofu pudding were good. As for the matcha bun, the matcha was only at the top of the bun. There wasn't any matcha taste, and there should be lava custard inside but mine was dry. Also had the tofu skin roll which was very oily. The service was good and quick. The restaurant would get very noisy, and it would be difficult to talk without letting tables near you hear about your conversation. The restaurant is very popular. Too overpriced for something that is "ok" at best. This is an OG dimsum place in the heart of the Town Bellaire. You typically don't expect service to hit flying colors, but the culture is that you do expect the food to speak for itself. We ordered dim sum and it was quite the disappointment. **Chinese broccoli (gai lan) with oyster sauce: huge disappointment. Traditionally served as blanched Chinese broccoli in oil and toss in oyster sauce. However, it was served as steamed with oyster sauce on the side. This is incredibly lazy on part of kitchen staff! **Shui Mai: it was okay, nothing to really write home about. **Hai Cao: likewise, met expectations but definitely was not wowed. ** Chung Fung rice rolled in chinese donut: a very unique dish that I don't often see in most dim sum places. The interior crunch of the Chinese donut held its own very well. The dipping sauce provided complimented the flavoring profile. I have an uncle who always likes to go here. Whenever I visit, he invites me to go eat and inevitably he takes me here. It's like his special occasion spot. So over the years, I've been here quite a few times and have seen how it's changed. During my most recent visit in Fall 2025, I was surprised to see some renovations to the place. Previously I remember food service being in a large dining hall upstairs. That may or may not still exist, but at least this time, during a weekday lunch, we were ushered into a ground-level dining area that was much nicer what what I recall upstairs. I saw wine bottles and such, suggesting they do dinner service too, but when I asked I was told they don't. Anyways, we sat down and ordered various items of dim sum. They give you a sheet and a pencil and you mark what you want. Despite the more "upscale" vibe they have here now, the service is still very standard for most Asian restaurants along Bellaire. That is to say, they take your order and then forget about you unless you flag them down. Not a complaint -- I actually get kind of put off by constantly being asked whether I'm enjoying my meal. However, even though we marked what we wanted to order, they forgot to bring an order of bao buns I wanted. They didn't charge for it. They just didn't even see the order. Food was not bad but certainly not good, either. It was just adequate. I remember in years past really enjoying the food here -- crystal shrimp dumplings, xiu mai pork dumplings, chicken feet, Chinese broccoli, etc -- but this time, the food was a bit meh. For example, although my family has it as one of our favorites, my cousins have it way lower. I personally love their food. Every dish you get is never under salted and is always very juicy. Some of my favorites are the Shrimp Rice Rolls and Shrimp Shu Mai. Went here most recently with some family friends who aren't very familiar with the cuisine and they seemed to enjoy it a lot as well. At a certain point, all the dishes start to get to you, and at that point it it's important to STOP ordering. Make sure to order some kind of tea to wash everything down and fill your plate with hot oil and soy sauce to dunk everything in. Trust the process and enjoy yourself! Service/Ambiance: Waiters are a little slow at times, but the carts during the daytime are always so nice and the ambiance is really upscale and expansive. The upstairs that they used before for Dim Sum was always so overwhelming, but the new downstairs dining hall is really nice and well furnished. Always such a good time here. I enjoyed their duck stream rice roll a lot and their rice porridge. I just wished they served our food all together or close to each other. Ordered a small catering order for a Friendsgiving last year and it did not disappoint. We got the stir fry noodles, fried rice, and salt and pepper lobster. It was delicious!! I also love the flat rice noodle stir fry & ginger and scallion lobster is so good. One of the few places that deliver to the heights area as well via uber eats. For the small catering order it was simple to order via phone, the person on the phone walked me through how much food I should order and it was a perfect amount and pick up was simple. Came here for their dim sum. Was pleasantly surprised with the ambiance which was a step up from typical Chinese restaurants. It has plenty of seating (enough for banquet style occasions) and was fairly clean. Food was good - typical Dim sum dishes but quite flavorful and freshly cooked. It's unique and delicious. Good truffle flavor 4) Fried Crab Claw: Standard, good crispy lightly fried outside with a big chunk of crab meat mixture. You get the most delectable bolo (pineapple bun) stuffed with a gritty, sweet, salted egg yolk molten liquid inside. Ocean Palace serves decent dimsum with prompt service. A couple remarks about the experience: 1) the tables don't have lazy susan's (spinning table), so when you come with a large party, it is difficult to pass the food and tea around. I wish they can upgrade the tables with this essential feature. 2) the fundamental items - the har gow wrappers did not hold its shape and the filling spilled out easily: they could be thicker. The siu mai tasted more shrimps than preferred, and I wish it had mushroom in the filling to round out the flavor. The chicken feet were lean and tasted off. The beef balls were too savory and did not have water chestnut. Overall the taste and execution are acceptable. Would consider coming again if in the area but not rave about it. read more
