Figured I would give them a shot, the gentleman on the phone was pleasant and priced seemed reasonable. I was not sure if the going rate for a Smog since it Has been quite sometime since I needed a Smog, usually with my Company car I don't have to deal with it. Headed out, no appointment needed and I was done within 20 minutes of arriving with my passing certificate that gets automatically transmitted to the DMV. Super easy and the gentleman was as nice in person as on the phone. Price was $50 out the door for an SUV, same as I was quoted. I would recommend checking them out and using them for your next Smog. Every two years, I need to get a smog check at a STAR location for my 2005 Corolla. I checked Joe's Smog online and it said $60. Last time I went it was only $40. So I go to Universal AC, unfortunately they weren't STAR certified, but recommended Crown Smog. I call and get quoted $50. Great. It's $51.75 if you have anything more then a small car. In my case it's a small SUV. The coupon will take off $5.00 so the total actually came to $46.75. Also if you don't pass you can come back and pay $20.00 but only within 2 weeks. In my case it took over that to get the repair done so I get the bad luck of paying for it @ full price again. I would did it 5 stars except for one thing, which was pretty much my fault. It failed 1st time, I had electrical work done, therefore the catalytic converter OBD1 port was not ready. Everything else passed. I paid the full 50.00, there is a coupon on their site for 29.95 (cash only) that I was not made aware of at the time I went. The only thing I did not appreciate was, the 2nd test, the converter was ready and passed. This was just a few weeks later. I was referred to Crown Smog by the kind souled owner/mechanic, Jack, at Universal Smog & Repair, only because Jack's team, couldn't smog older cars over 34 years old at the time. As a result, I drove over and they got me in very quickly. In my opinion, this smog/repair shop is the shop where you want to bring your old cars if you live in the NoHo area since it's close and they are quite efficient at what they do. I literally live down the street from these guys and I was in & out in no time at all, which is normal for most smog shops, but even better if you are nearby. Shouldn't take you more than 10-20 min. Personally, I've been to other smog testing sites around LA/HW which all are great and fast, and have also been around the world serving in the military for over 20 years going to all kinds of auto repair shops and meeting all kinds of mechanics, I found that these guys at Crown Smog were by far very efficient and skilled at what they do, especially Zare. He was super kind, professional, and highly skilled at what he did the day I met him. He knew exactly the type of car I had and how to smog it. It's refreshing to meet mechanics who know what they do and are also kind and courteous in the process at the same time. You can't go wrong by using Crown Smog and its mechanics. And if Jack the owner of Universal Smog & Repair, referred them, then you know they're good, kind, and professional too just like them. Either way, I'll be back again and will always refer my family and friends in the area to you all. Side note: When you first arrive, you have to drive down a little tight alleyway off of Burbank Blvd to get to their garage, so just be careful driving to their garage as there are other shops in the area with other cars driving in & out at the same time. It seemed to be a little congested the day I arrived but don't let it stop you as you'll be in & out in no time at all. I'd hardly set the brakes when SM approached and in a rude tone said they do not smog check Priuses with catalytic converter anti-theft covers even those that are California-compliant, as ours is.
