But since the…read morepractice no longer belongs to him, his spirit of caring community and customer service is being slowly sucked out of the place. I will always come to him for my eye care, but my recent experience buying glasses was very disappointing. I was picking up my $1500 glasses and saw that they are offering a 40% discount on new glasses! I asked to have that applied to my $950 copay and they refused. Why? Because I used my insurance. Does it say that anywhere on the discount flyer? Nope. Not a whisper. It was very disappointing. Not because I didn't get the discount, but because I left there feeling incredibly disrespected and cheated. My hub and I will always see Doc for our eye care but they will never sell either of us another pair of glasses. 3/31/25: The utterly unresponsive response attached to this review actually makes it WORSE. No organization that "strives for 5-star" service acts like this. Now I've been disrespected AND dismissed. Learn from this, John D. If you aren't going to do something about your customers' complaints, don't be dismissive. Just say nothing.

My 3 kids and I have been patients here for several years and my husband recently became a patient…read moreas well. Today, I had a scheduled appt with my 15 year old daughter. We have always declined the optimap pictures, which is a little box you check on the paperwork. It has always said on the form, that if you decline the pictures, you will have your eyes dilated. ( Except during covid, they said it was required, so we all did the pictures at that visit.). The appt after that, we declined them and I asked Dr. Haring if my kids and I needed to do the dilation part of the exam, because the appt had wrapped up and it hadn't happened yet, but he said no, it's not necessary. Ever since, at each appt, we've done the same thing and we have never once been offered to dilate our eyes. I assumed they knew what they were doing and never questioned anything. At today's visit, the office manager tells me they have notes they've been keeping on me that I have refused dilation at every visit, which has absolutely never happened. I've never been to an appointment here without my kids having appointments as well. 18, 15 and 11. They have never been offered to have their eyes dilated either, nor have they ever witnessed me telling any staff member that I refuse having our eyes dilated. She started speaking to me as if I was some problematic patient, when we have been patients for years with no issues. Today they said insurance has changed and it's required to do one or the other, but that I cannot drive if I chose dilation. I was not sure what to do at that point. I didn't mind getting dilated today, I just was not sure about driving arrangements. I was also in complete shock that the office manager told me they have been keeping notes on me refusing dilation, something that I've never even been offered. In fact, was told it was not necessary at my second visit. I tried to figure out what was going on, but she refused to hear me out. The office manager was rude with me, telling me to chose or reschedule for January. Her tone and attitude towards me was completely unwarranted. She could not be bothered to try to remedy the situation. It's the most awful feeling being told you've done something that is completely false and having the office manager so unwilling to even hear what I was saying. She handled the situation so poorly. I chose to leave with my daughter without rescheduling. I prefer to find another office that does not keep false notes about patients and then treat them so terribly when they are surprised to hear that that's what's been happening. Why would they continue to see us, as patients, for so many years, if we refused something they required? Probably because it never happened, I've never refused anything. Why would anyone go to an eye doctor and not want the proper care? I don't even need contacts or glasses. I go to make sure my eyes are healthy. So unbelievably disappointed with how I was treated. Now that I am home, I wish desperately, I would have asked her "what in the world did I do for you to treat me this way?". Essentially calling me, a patient, a liar and not allowing the person she's made all these false notes about to try to figure out what in the world happened. I cannot describe the absolute disheartening feeling this woman left me and my daughter with. This family of 5 will find Eyecare elsewhere.

    Steele Vision - Inside Costco

Fresh from an appointment with Dr. Steele, I am writing to highly recommend him and his team for…read moreyour optometry needs. Steele Vision is the independent optometrist associated with the Costco in Manchester, MO. This is my third visit to a Costco-affiliated optometrist in a third different state, and by far this was the best experience (all were very good, this was best). Mr. M. was in town for a brief time and desperately needed to get a post-COVID eye exam in before subsequent travel. Setting up an appointment over the phone was easily facilitated by his polite, friendly, and efficient team. $70 for a non-contact lens examination (I believe it is $99/$100 for the contact lens exam). The team observed COVID precautions, all wore masks, seating inside was limited while the hand sanitizer was abundant. Check in was a snap and within minutes Dr. Steele had finished his prior appointment and I was being seen on time. Things started out really well, when Dr. Steele turned to acknowledge me while he was wrapping up with another patient and told me he would be with me in a quick moment. The exam features a standard battery of eye tests (such as glaucoma "puff-test," slit lamp exam, which I won't get detail), I will note that the test did not require dilation (where dilating drops are instilled and you have 20-30 minutes of impaired vision after the exam). I am assuming that the equipment used is of the newer sophisticated variety that obviates the need for dilation. If having your pupils dilated is important to you, definitely ask about this because it was not given as an option (not that anyone would want this option...it is uncomfortable). What was very impressive about Dr. Steele's style were his: fast and efficient pace or work, his friendly attitude, his interest in explaining eye anatomy and answering questions, his clearly conveying options, and thoroughness. Point 1 Time: I was in and out in 15 minutes. 20 if I include my getting to check in, waiting at the front door, and then my time paying/checking out. Dr. Steele had everything efficiently running and his workspace was very clearly and cleanly organized, allowing him to efficiently move around and conduct the examination without it being too cramped. Point 2 Friendly: Whether it be his friendly comments about us all battling through COVID or his casual chatting about where I live in Virginia. If you're at all uneasy about visiting a health provider, Dr. Steele is the one you want to visit with a calm, chill, warm attitude that comes across right from the get-go. Point 3 In-depth explanations: Though he was clear to point out that he won't explain if patients are not interested, he was quick to efficiently and clearly explain eye anatomy and variations in my eyes. His explanation of variation in nerve anatomy and distinguishing between variable physiology and pathology were solid. Though he was speaking in technical terms after being asked a few technical questions, I got the distinct impression that he could clearly explain potentially complicated ideas (such as astigmatism) in everyday clear language. Point 4 Q&A: It was easy and great to be able to quickly volley questions to Dr. Steele and he hit them back like Federer. Super efficient, open to fully helping me to understand. Point 5 Options: When it came time to understand my options for glasses, he carefully and clearly described three different options to meet optimal needs, budget, and ease of use. You got the feeling Dr. Steele really wanted to be sure you got the best glasses set-up. Point 6 Thoroughness: As is should be, Dr. Steele performed a thorough pre-exam health screening asking about a family history of eye disease, current prescriptions, and any precipitating factors that brought me into the office. Throughout the eye exam he was taking time to demonstrate different eye settings and highlight differences, being certain that I had achieved the best prescription. There are people who do their job and go through the motions. There are others who have found a great niche work environment. Dr. Steele recounted how he used to work at a large group practice where he felt rushed, but now found a better place where he could spend a bit more time and have better patient outcomes. Similarly, his team of support staff (both clinical and administrative) are fantastic and worked really efficiently to assist patients in a friendly manner. Shame on me for not asking their names, they were fantastic and deserve credit too! If everyone had the same pleasant demeanor and attitude about serving patients and promoting health as Dr. Steele and his staff, we all wouldn't mind visiting the doctor.

I had an acute cornea abrasion and Dr. Steele accessed me, provided some medicinal help, then made the call to a cornea specialist where I was seen within 12 hrs. Dr. Steele was compassionate, helpful, and most importantly, treated me like I was the most important person in his life at that moment.

We had the pleasure of knowing Dr McReynolds for about 10 years. Then lost touch with her when she moved to another practice. Then when we lived in Kirkwood and found out she had opened up West County Vision we were happy to have her close by again. She took care of all our family optician needs during our stay in Kirkwood. She is friendly, thorough, knowledgeable and compassionate. The office staff and optician will make sure you find the right pair of glasses that best suits you. We have never felt rushed, they take the time to get to know you and your family. West County Vision reminds me of that small town practice that knows their patients. Check them out, you'll be glad you did. (Full disclosure, we no longer live in the area)

Everything about her office is spot-on: West County's staff is friendly & efficient, they have top-of-the-line diagnostic equipment, and Doc McReynolds is kind, perceptive, and professionally astute. She's also great with kids. The office has a selection of eye gear & frames in the lobby, and they will facilitate contact lens orders for you. It's definitely one of the most thoughtfully managed medical-related groups our family has used, and Dr. McReynolds stands above any optometrist we've met over the course of multiple-state relocations. The St. Louis/Kirkwood area is fortunate to have such a great resource.
