Went to the 1138 Boardwalk location, and the popcorn chicken was some of the best Korean fried chicken I've had. The spicy soy honey sauce was just the right amount of heat, and the large combo size was just right for two to share. I also tried the pork dumplings and the bulgogi cheesesteak. The pork dumplings were very tasty. The bulgogi cheesesteak was interesting. It had a lot going on, but I was more in the mood for the fried chicken. It's easy to see why this place does so well. They'll have a larger location opening up next year on the boardwalk. I'll be trying to talk myself out of a 2nd visit before I leave here. read more

I've been looking forward to this to a while. So on to the review to see how it measured up. I ordered a beach box so I could try as much as possible. Asked and received an upgrade so the fries got kimchi on them. Kimchi fries: Underlying fry was good, not great. Crisp. The star of the show is the sauce on top. Cheese and kimchi. Not an incredible amount to veggies in the topping, but think of it more as a kimchi based sauce rather than kimchi. Nice kick. Not too spicy. I ate it there because French fries don't age well and I was biking home. 4/5 Pork Dumplings: Crispy as well. Pork has a good flavor but not a ton of it. Not used to how Korean dumplings should be, but they're dumplings. If done decently, enjoyable. 4/5 Chicken wings with honey soy sauce: Wow. Best thing I tried here. Nice flavor but very crispy on the outside I assume due to being fried twice. 5/5 Bulgogi cheesesteak: this one is hard to review. Good flavor. Nice sauce and veggies on it. Looks and tastes a lot like bahn mi, which works for me. I took some beef out and had it by itself. Tastes good and of good quality, but I don't think it tastes like bulgogi. To be fair, it's been a long time since I had bulgogi. The roll got soggy. I attribute this to the sauce and the liquid from the veggies on the trip home. Love this place and so does the kiddos. Stopped by for rice bowls for my husband and me as we were at the beach and it did not disappoint. Gave the counterman lip cause I thought the chicken wasn't boneless at first glance but they were just big hunks of fried chicken covered with sauce. The chicken is a family favorite and eating it on the beach was yummy. Chicken came with some sort of clear noodles, red cabbage and of course rice. The taste is scrumptious. What a cute little boardwalk shop! I have tried their samples a few times while passing by, but this was the first time I made a purchase. I went for a small Popcorn Chicken in the "Honey Soy Spicy" flavor. Everyone in our group was a fan. Although I didn't find it all that spicy, the chicken was very crunchy and had good flavor. It does take about 5-10 minutes to receive your food, but I didn't mind as I liked this made-to-order aspect. I ordered here, went next door to grab some crab fries from Chickie's & Pete's, and when I returned it was only a few more minutes till I had a hot meal. Prices here seem fair to me and the service was really great. The two employees I interacted with were friendly and even helped wrap my food up to protect it from seagulls on my journey back to the beach. The food here is FANTASTIC!!!!!! Please do yourself a favor and get the bulgogi beef tacos. They are absolutely insane and one of the higher quality meals you can get on the boardwalk. My fiancée and I recently visited their boardwalk location two times. Their food was absolutely fabulous. The honey soy popcorn chicken is some of the best I've ever had. We also really enjoyed their tacos. The beef was tender and delicious. It's common for portions to be smaller on the boardwalk, as the leases for business are astronomically high. Somehow, this business manages to keep the price to portion ratio generous towards the consumer. This means everything to us. If you want authentic Korean food at an excellent price. I get dinner here every year on vacation and never had a bad meal. The tofu rice bowl with honey soy sauce is my go-to. It's a good sized portion and the sweet flavors of the tofu and sauce are balanced well with the acidic red cabbage. Milk teas are also good here. They aren't watered down with ice and the tapioca pearls are slightly sweet. Employees have always been friendly and efficient. While overall a great place, I'd recommend eating your food back at a house or hotel. The rice bowls are not the best walking food and having any of it fall or get snatched up by a seagull is a sad time because the food is so good :) read more

Def different to see a Korean taco place on the boardwalk in the midst of sooooo many pizza places and came away with mixed feelings. We were told (very nicely) that it would be a minute and after about 5 minutes which was not a big deal at all but I guess only one person of the many going back and forth could take our order. The young lady was very friendly and maybe ten minutes pass until We get the tacos and wings. The spicy tuna taco and spicy pork tacos were both cold but maybe this is a thing with Korean tacos!?!? We wouldn't recommend those BUT damn were the wings great. The honey soy wings were so crisp and tasty that we were talking about them on the drive home. I'm so sad that this place is seasonal. I went yesterday 10/7 and found out that it was their last day of opening. Hopefully they decide to expand into an actual store and have it year long. Literally the only Korean place in the area and I can't begin to say how excited I am for this place to succeed. Sadly they're on the very edge of the boardwalk so you actually have to make an effort to walk towards the end to enjoy this restaurant. But think positive thoughts, by the time you make it to the end you can eat more! The Crunchik'n staff were very energetic and upbeat, handing out free dumpling samples that were actually pretty delicious. We had the pleasure of trying the beef dumplings and had ordered a thing of fried chicken in sweet chili sauce. The chicken tasted pretty authentic, I've tried a lot of Korean food in NY & Philly area and although I have tried better, this was awesome as boardwalk food and I'm excited to try more as the summer goes on. Price wise they're pretty reasonable. 10 for $10 for the chicken and everything is under $10. They also have group options that sounded reasonable as well. I had a glimpse of the rice bowls and it looked very filling so I'm excited to try that next. So all in all, if you want to try something different in the area, Crunchik'n is a great place to start, especially if you love Asian food. We kept walking on the boardway looking for something good to eat (alot of pizza on the boardwalk) & found this place. We needed guidance from the staff. There were samples our front so I was able to try to honey soy sauce, OUTSTANDING! Lightly sweet & simply addictive! I don't even like honey and I was obsessed. My boyfriend & I split a large honey soy popcorn chicken. The chicken pieces were big with real perfectly cooked chicken and a crispy crunchy coating. It was out of this world! I strongly recommend this place if you are in the Ocean City, NJ area looking for some tasty Korean fusion food. I tried the honey soy and honey soy spicy fried chicken wings, beef taco, spicy pork taco, spicy tuna taco, black milk tea w/tapioca, and strawberry fruit tea w/tapioca. The fried chicken wings were very well-cooked. If you like wings, you should definitely order theirs. The crunch of Korean-style chicken wings is quite different from most western chicken wings, Crunchik'n's are delicious. Both sauces were great and the spicy sauce was not overwhelming. But because I personally prefer spicy foods, I think some more spiciness would have been good. The tacos are on a soft tortilla and are very big and loaded with meat and greens. It may be a little difficult to eat because of how packed it is, but the ingredients work very well together. The spicy tuna was my favorite. I enjoyed the black milk tea drink very much and if you like fruity drinks then you may like their strawberry fruit tea or other flavors as well. The only downside is that sometimes they are out of certain items. Our favorites are the japchae and the pork cheesesteak. We have yet to try the bulgogi cheesesteak. It was super crunchy and fresh, dumplings were good and crunchy too (they were completely deep fried not pan fried). They also own the Snowberg next door and they have 4 tables for seating. So a bad customer encounter has soured me on this place. Our order was given very low priority and was completed only after others who had ordered after us received their items and were long gone. Ostensibly reason was because they ran out of one of the items in a drink which had been ordered. But notification came only after 10 minutes had passed and there had been no progress in filling the order. The tomboy Asian cashier who took our order was also not too friendly and never offered any apologies (though she was certainly solicitous to other customers). I will keep the specifics of my conjecture as to why to myself (the thematics include self-hate, a hat, and jealousy). We ended up staying long enough that the order line had emptied and the usual clutches of customers waiting on their orders had all departed, long enough to have an odd eye-to-eye with the cashier as she left her completed shift. We have been reliably regular patrons of the business since it opened. It is unfortunate that our regard for this place was ruined by a bad customer experience (personally I largely fault the front-facing cashier). One saving grace: on complaining to the new cashier, a refund was immediately offered. read more
