We stayed at the Crusader over Memorial Day weekend and were pleasantly surprised how close to the beach we were and that it was only a 15-minute walk to the Boardwalk. It has a nice clean outdoor pool that is well-maintained and provides clean towels and lounge chairs. Our room for a family of five was just right with two queen beds and a pullout couch/bed in the living room. Our room also had many of the towels folded into adorable flowers and a great view of the beach/shore. Parking is available right around the building as well as on the street, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. One night, there was a very heavy rain storm. Since our back door was facing the beach, some water crept in through the bottom of the door. We were able to stop the leak with towels and called housekeeping who provided a door guard that soaks up water in case it happened again. For the price we paid, we would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others as well. read more

Can't recommend. Lamp was broken, refrigerator door handle was broken. My husband fixed both. Cable was mostly unavailable. Beds were terribly uncomfortable. We were there for 5 days. The maids made up our room once and then left a garbage bag on our door with towels, toiletries and garbage bags as if we were supposed to clean it ourselves. Don't waste your time being frustrated on vacation. Won't be back. read more

As someone who hasn't been in Wildwood in over 30 years, my family and I took a stab at staying at the Crusader and it was a great selection. Pros: The staff is extremely accommodating and friendly. They go out of their way to help. The hotel is very close to the beach. It's about a 2 minute stroll and you're out on the sand! The rooms are spacious and very clean. The pool is a decent size and there's a small area for young kids. Cons: If you're physically overweight, the parking spots can be a challenge getting in and out of and the air-conditioning was either really cold or too warm. We are planning on staying here again next summer! read more

My stay at the crusader was just perfect. The staff were amazing, front desk staff were so nice and helpful with anything we asked. Room was spotless, plenty of towels AHEAD of time! First thing first... WOW amazing . Booking went well on Expedia. The resort/hotel was amazing . Super clean. And I was worried there was gonna be a lot of kids because it was a family resort. And the timing is busy. But it was amazing . The staff were super friendly and helpful . NOW WANNA HEAR THE BEST PART!!! I left my iPad in the hotel , it's a 4 hour drive home..... I didn't take it out my bag. So it must have Fallin out . They called me and said they would ship it . I'm extremely lucky that there are good people out there and this business has respectful staff. It's as good as it's going to get for your typical Jersey shore motel. It's way overpriced in the summer but that is expected. The room was relatively clean. However, they have the typical cheap quality bedding and towels. The beds are not comfortable but not the worse. The couches were dingy and outdated. When you go 'down the shore' in Jersey, if you by-pass the whole Seaside Heights/Point Pleasant/LBI area and don't want the gambling scene of Atlantic City, the Wildwoods are your best bet for a seaside beach stay. The beaches are wide and exceptionally clean with tons of space. The boardwalk is better than any other in NJ. Among the many places to stay is this gem of a resort. I've been going to The Crusader now for at least 15 years with both friends and family. It is a very family-friendly, clean, well-run establishment. Some of the reviews posted are obviously by folks with unrealistic expectations of a casual beachfront Jersey shore motel. It's not the Ritz or the Four Seasons - it IS a comfortable, well-maintained place to stay that's right on the beach and close to everything that Wildwood has to offer. It's also just a short drive to charming Cape May. Most rooms sleep at least 6, have kitchen facilities, and some of the roomier suites have balconies directly overlooking the beach. There's an on-site restaurant for breakfast and lunch, a nice heated pool, and a really large deck with lots of lounge chairs for sunning and umbrella tables and chairs. Much of the staff has been with the Crusader for many years - that speaks volumes about management. Angel is a fixture who keeps the entire place spic and span - he always has a friendly smile to share with patrons...be sure to say hi and 'thank you'. We love staying here for many reasons. You have a choice on the type of room. The last few years we picked an ocean front view. Worth every penny since you have a bigger space, full kitchen and private balcony. The check in staff was helpful and let us park on property at 9am although we can check in until 3. Saved us parking $ parking spaces are tight but that's all over Wildwood. We came back at 1pm and although our room was not ready they told us that we can change and use the pool. Great idea and we did as suggested. The pool was super clean and the lifeguard very nice. Plenty of seating. There was a ping pong table and shuffle board game right outside of the pool. We didn't go to the restaurant this time but last year it was good when we went for breakfast. Elevator was speedy (trust me it's a plus since I stayed in others where it seemed it never came) so we didn't mind staying on the 3rd floor. The room was clean and the cleaning staff did a great job tiding up between days. I saw this place for sale online. If it does sell I hope it is run with the same professionalism that is showed now since we will be back next summer. :) read more

WORST HOTEL! TIMES 6! Worst we ever stayed in! We vacation in wildwoods every year and typically I don't complain so for me to write this please understand it is honest. We hated this place, literally all 6 adults in our party! After 3days of sleepless nights the beds were the starting point of an endless and poor experience there. The maid services tried to help us but management there sucks and they don't give a rats ass about their customers because they already got your money! The maids do an excellent job with what they have to deal with! A Shit hole! Our neighbors even requested another room and were moved. For us we rented Two rooms! Do not waste money. Rooms were awful, needs overhaul and beds and couches fully replaced! The bedrooms are noise boxes and between neighbors and street noise trash smells and seagulls it was like having them in the room with you. Bathroom outdated grout disgusting and floors were cheap. Intermittent water issues, brown water came out of faucets, microwave non functional for days due to wiring issues. They try to fix but are not at all apologetic and insincere ( like I said they have your money already). Even the on site cafe served poor quality food and rotten oxidized hash browns I would not give to the most starved person on the planet. The silverware needed cleaning! The pool was filthy and I would not let my kids get in for fear that they may contract a disease! Scum on water floaters and goo xyou could visibly see. Yuk! I informed the desk that I would be writing this review and they did nothing but say OKAY? No discount was offered for our inconveniences! Never again will we stay and I will always tell everyone I know To NEVER STAY THERE! They have a strong loyalist base but even some of them were complaining! Avoid at all costs. Management are inconsiderate and GREEDY. Wasn't even treated like a human being dealing with them. A HURRICANE is hitting New York and the east coast today, and the management REFUSED to work with the customer to change a reservation as the conditions at checkout time was projected to be completely unsafe to make it home. They had projected up to 50mph winds. We could not have made it home safely. NYS advised against ALL non essential travel. This motel didn't care one bit for it's customers safety, with no middle ground on rescheduling, any credit, or general human decency. read more

This place was just OK. Several small quirks added up and will not be staying here again. Positives: close to beach, hotel pool was clean with kids section, restaurant on site that had pretty good food, very friendly staff and good WiFi. Negatives: horrid parking lot! Good luck if you have a mid size SUV. Parking spaces fill up quick and trying to fit in those tiny spaces was very tricky to say the least. Beds were as hard as a rock - uncomfortable. No do not disturb signs - not sure why?? No bath mat provided in tub. I had a difficult time bathing my kids and they kept slipping - not cool. Restaurant opens at 7am. I'm an early riser and it would have been nice to have coffee in the lobby earlier for convenience. I just made my own coffee in the room. Bathroom was small and dated - needs updating. Maid kept forgetting to replenish coffee cups and filters. TV only had Cartoon Network. For a family of kids, should have at least Nickelodeon or Disney channel. This is the first place I stayed that didn't offer it. Room ceiling had water that kept dripping onto floor from AC. No welcome pamphlets in room - would have been nice to have the restaurant menu in room. We stayed in a street side room - not sure if ocean view is better. We have stayed at Port Royal and will return there next time a few blocks down. So much better accommodations. read more

Went to Wildwood for the first time. The Crusader had good reviews, reasonable prices and was located on the beach. Front desk attendant was great, explained about the hotel, pool hours, housekeeping and parking. We gathered our luggage and went up to the room. WOW!! The room was large, clean and comfortably furnished. The views from the balcony-facing the ocean-were remarkable. I highly recommend the Crusader!! We had a wonderful stay!! Thanks!! read more

This establishment sucks for lack of better words. A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I booked a room on Groupon for May 27th-28th. The hotel's fine print lists that you must be 21 years old to book. (It was literally my 20th birthday, my boyfriend and other two friends we met up with are all over 21). When we arrived at the hotel, their associate Steven asked me how old I was. (I was allowed to provide an ID with only photo and name - wondering now if I should've just lied). We were immediately turned away. I then asked if it was possible to switch name to one of my guests'. Steven told me it was possible, but since we weren't a "family," it wasn't acceptable. I asked to speak to manager and they refused. I then asked to see the policy where it states each person must be 21 to enter the room, they refused that also. I spent about 2 weeks trying to get ahold of the manager after we got home. The day he finally answered, he initially hung up on me after realizing it was me. I immediately called back and as I was TRYING to introduce myself, their lousy excuse of a manager John cut me off to tell me "Kayli, I have all your info in front of me. You're not getting your money back so we don't need to further discuss." BEFORE I even said anything. I tried multiple times to speak to him to explain the REAL situation and he was nothing but ignorant and rude. He insisted that our conversation was a waste of time and then hung up on me. I thought that I'd receive better customer service from the manager but was completely mistaken. Save your money!!!! I wish I would've trusted my instincts before they stole my money. read more

So most would say this is a great hotel - Yes the location is great and from what I saw the pool was ok - It's not the Grand or Icona. However if you have a large vehicle parking spaces are tight.Unfortunately I didn't see the rooms - my explanation is given below. I give this place a low score as I only booked for 1 night, but my husband felt ill and we didn't want to put anyone's health at risk so I called the hotel to explain my issue and they stated that they are not allowed to provide a refund. With this we were thinking of what to do (should we stay or go since there was no refunds) as we were waiting for them to call to say our room was ready. During this time we decided to make the right choice and call them to tell them we didn't want to put anyone at risk and left. They told us that they would speak with the owner/s and see if they would consider anything for us. I had high hopes for at least half back or something. Well they refused and decided to keep our money instead. I guess having the money and putting people at risk was more important to these owners. In these hard times I would think that compassion would go farther than losing a potential future customer that comes down more than 3 times a year. In all fairness Denise was very friendly she seemed to be the only one that cared, but for me true colors are what really matters and makes me re-think my options when coming to the Woods for short stays. I stayed overnight with 4 other guests in room 101. Two double beds, and a queen size pull out couch. We had plenty of room. The balcony view to the ocean was incredible. The pool was very clean as was the room. It was quiet and peaceful. The front desk staff were very pleasant. I'd recommend this place to anyone and stay here again anytime. We had no issues with the wifi. We had a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, T.V., and phone and plenty of space to hang clothes up. Thanks for the lovely experience!! read more

We have stayed at the Crusader before so we should have known better. I booked 2 nights on the last weekend they were open in 2015. We had reserved their "honeymoon suite." The honeymoon suite is a queen size bed with a bathtub in the same room plus a sitting area. The room was attractive enough and I was told the carpet and sofa were new. They were in excellent condition - except that the floor absolutely stunk like cat urine. The manager (who was very kind and really did try to help on a limited level) made several attempts to clear the smell by bringing an ionizer in but the smell was just awful. The ionizer freshened the room for about an hour and then the smell was right back there again. My allergies kicked into high gear and I was miserable for our entire stay. When we were in the room we had to keep the door open just to breath. I asked for a reduction in the bill and the manager told me he would pass it on to the owner. Nothing - and it was no bargain even at the end of the year. We asked to be moved to another room. The other room available on the 2nd floor had 2 double beds - nice for our first anniversary getaway in 25 years. I asked to go up to the 3rd floor. Nope - the 3rd floor was closed for construction. But when we looked in the windows, nothing was going on in those rooms. We surmised they had already closed off the water for the season and didn't want to turn a valve to accommodate a customer. They can claim renovations all they want. To quote my husband, "You can't put lipstick on a pig." Oh, did I mention .25/bucket of ice? I guess you really can't go back - next time we'll try somewhere else. read more
