The location and service were great. Staff was helpful and room looked and smelled clean. Our negative experience was due solely to the room. We booked a "cottage" which was not a one story stand alone structure as we thought a "cottage" is to be. We were given a room on the second floor requiring going up and down a lot of steps. My husband and I are in our sixties and he has great difficulty with steps. Also we were surprised to have no freezer in the refrigerator, no table nor chair. I had to go to the main hotel 2nd floor to get ice. Also there was no simple coffee maker which normally seems standard especially if breakfast isn't served until 8:00 a.m. I told 2 receptionists that perhaps "cottage" should be removed from their website and replaced with a more accurate description. Outside photos of this building might help too to prevent older people with mobility issues from booking in the "cottage". Both receptionists were kind and understanding. One offered to move us to the first floor of the "cottage " the next day, but my husband didn't want to leave his balcony view by then because the room was so small. read more

We stayed here overnight recently while on a roadtrip. Unfortunately, we didn't get to experience it during the height of the lively Wildwood beach season when the pool would be open and breakfast would be served. But the location is good and the room was clean. The worst part was how bright the room was when trying to sleep because of the outside lights. Between that and an uncomfortable bed, we didn't sleep very well. read more

I'd have to say, I truly have no complaints about this hotel. Upon arrival Starlux was easy to find due to its eccentric design and decor. I was happy to find that the starlux has their own parking lot with free and adequate parking. Check in was simple and straightforward. The lady at the front let us know that everything we see out was free to use. Beach towels, boogie boards, sand toys, bikes, kids helmets and complimentary tea and coffee. I only wish we had known this earlier because it would of saved us packing alot of things! We had room 304. To get to the floor there was an elevator and stairs inside as well as an outdoor circular stair case. The room itself was small. It consisted of two queen beds, a bathroom, dresser, mini fridge, microwave and desk. The whole front of the room was a glass window that does not open, overlooking the street, but not the water. The only window in the whole room was in the bathroom. They have an ac unit, but no ceiling fans. The room itself got pretty stuffy due to poor air circulation. I would suggest bringing a small fan. The bathroom was stocked with lots of towels, neutrogena soap and lotions as well as shampoo and conditioner. Everything was suprising clean. The oddest thing was the small wall that jutted out a few inches from the toilet, making it a tight squeeze. The hotel also has a decent sized pool with a hot tub. We did not use them but we had a nice view of them from our balcony. They also have a small game room and laundry facilities. All in all, I would definitely stay here again on my next trip to Wildwood. read more

Right off the bat I must say we were nothing but thrilled to come stay at this hotel. (Prior to coming to STARLUX we originally booked via booking.com and were confirmed via email an early check at a dump of a hotel that was nearby however when we arrived the lady had absolutely 0% customer service skills and would not even look at an email confirmed with one of her partners that voided any contract we had with her). Needless to say we were happy that we didn't stay there rather made a quick phone call to Starlux. Immediately Bob who has exceptional customer service skills and was accommodating and obviously knows the business of hospitality was helpful. We explained to him that we would be there in approx 10 minutes. Upon arrival Bob greeted us like family not just another number coming to stay at his resort. Obviously any stay at a hotel with the coronavirus roaring being cautious with a child is our number one priority and immediately you could tell that the staff at Starlux took this seriously. The entire resort was clean and took the proper precautions to ensure that their customers felt as safe as possible. This hotel followed the guidelines and more to keep their place safe and exceptional. The excitement didn't end there. While the staff was cleaning the room we took a dip in the pool. Shortly the room was ready. Not only did Bob speak with my wifey by the pool he even made an effort and found me which was a feat on its own since I was probably trying to stay as far away as possible from wifey before being stuck inside a room with her for the next few days lol. Now that's going the extra mile. :) Well the room was 100% beyond any expectations we had coming to wildwood. As everyone knows Wildwoods hotels motels and resorts are older than most shore towns. However that doesn't mean you can't put back into your business like Starlux has done. I give Starlux and their staff an A+ for their hard work I give BOB an A+++ for being a down to earth genuine person that goes above and beyond to ensure that his customers are happy with their stay. stayed here last weekend and it was pretty retro here but nice! for one night with two queen beds it's was $150. which for the off-season is not too bad. there was a lot of parking for hotel guests. we got a parking pass and got to keep are car parked there after checkout. the room itself was medium in size and the bathroom was had was a little weird. the room is very retro but still nice, it blends in with the area. really close to the convention center and boardwalk. definitely will be back for my next cheer competition read more

First off, the hotel is gorgeous! It has a doo wop 50's theme. Frankie Valli can be heard singing by the pool. It also features a large hot tub. The staff is top notch and the place is very clean. Bikes are free as well as boogie boards and chairs for the beach. The hotel also offers large discounts on boardwalk rides and water parks. I've stayed in many hotels in wildwood. I will be coming back to the Starlux. read more

Growing up in suburban Philadelphia, our summer vacations consisted of trips "down the shore" to Wildwood where the boardwalks were filled with condoms and needles. We used to go on those "haunted house" type rides and lay on the beach surrounded by hairy Italian men. After many, many years of being away from the Jersey Shore, not much has changed. We didn't know where to stay now, since my parents weren't getting a hotel, so my boyfriend found this place. It definitely stands out from the rest of the shitty 70s era hotels. Instead, this is a throwback to the retro 70s era hotel. So instead of that puke green color that all 70s appliances had, this hotel has retro patterns, like a space-age lounge pad. I'm thinking of the artist Shag well-dressed girls with big beehive hairdos, Tiki idols, and pink elephant cocktails. The room we stayed in was fairly cheap--around $90/night. And you can stay in an Airstream Trailer which is parked across the street. The strange thing is that it looks like it's in the backyard of a house there. When we went, the price of the Airstream was the same as our room, but it had already been booked. The only thing that sucked was the vomit that was collected on the side of the pool. I've been going to Wildwood since the early 1980's, and I have been used to the fact that the motels in the area are pretty bare bones. Plus, with a family of 6, it is tough to find places where we can stay comfortably without going to the Crest or North. I've been curious about the Starlux for years, but had always been staying somewhere else. But this year I stayed with my family for the first time and loved it. The staff was wonderful; the room was spacious, clean, and fun; the pool was really nice; and it was a big plus to have the game room and breakfast. Not to mention the free washer and dryer - very helpful for a big crew. And there was free wifi, a big fridge, microwave, sink, as well as dishes, plates and silverware. Plus, it was a nice perk, even though we didn't take advantage, to have the option to borrow bikes, beach stuff, etc. The two bedroom suite fit us nicely, and we had a balcony with a view of the boardwalk and Rio Grande Ave. Nice location, too. I can't see staying anywhere else when we go back. read more

This hotel ROCKS..! The check in is a tiny one person front desk serviced by a gentleman who is dressed like and favors crew members from the the 70s show "The Love Boat." We got the air stream and I'm glad we did--the children were in awe of the vintage fully functional (and air conditioned) design . It is highly private with a little patio with faux palm trees and retro outdoor lights. We were even able to park our car right beside the streamer--convenient because we were only staying 1 night and did not want to have to lug our suitcases out of the car only to have to do the same thing again in reverse the very next day. We have access to the hotel amenities for free--continental breakfast, pool & supplies, paddle-board, and bicycles. We were also given an amazing rate on the new mini-golf course that just opened next door. We are across the street from the boardwalk--meaning no driving so I could enjoy a glass of wine prior to dinner. We will be back..! read more

I'm so happy we chose to stay at this hotel! I kept thinking "if I had stayed at the hotel across the street, I would be so jealous of the people staying at the Starlux". The decor is adorable, we loved the lava lamp in the room. Rooms were clean and comfortable - they had a DVD player and DVDs to rent from the front desk. The "lounge" area was also really great. The location can't be beat and the price was fantastic! Also, I accidentally left some really important papers/documents behind (under the bed, I guess) when we checked out, and the starlux mailed them to me! I am so so grateful for their hospitality! Very standard hotel option in Wildwood, the Starlux is a couple points short of 4 stars. We went in the off season, maybe they're more on their A Game during the summer season. Queen Suite was fine. Bed was a little hard but the amenities were nice. Decent fridge and sink with coffee machine and fold out couch. Living room area had a tube tv with a dvd player, a very nice touch. The bathroom needed some work, shower pressure wasn't great and water really didn't get hot. A word of warning, the suites are basically in the lobby of every floor around the elevators, so you can hear EVERYONE. We took the extra comforter and placed it at the base of the door. We stayed here three nights. This hotel is in a good location, right up against the infamous Wildwood sign. Parking is free, which is very convenient since you are walking distance to the boardwalk. Rooms and pool are kept clean. The included breakfast consists of small pastries, bagels, and small muffins, all of which were just ok. Drinks included coffee, apple juice, and orange juice. Although the hotel advertises beach chairs free with your stay, they are limited, so I would suggest bringing your own if you have room. I had a few other minor issues during our stay. There is no draft guard at the bottom of the door into our room, allowing quite a bit of noise in. Thankfully, there wasn't too much noise after midnight. I also thought our bed was pretty hard and uncomfortable. I woke up each morning quite stiff. However, my boyfriend had no complaints about the bed, so that may be personal preference. All in all, I would consider staying here again. read more

Loved this place! Stayed from May 8th through May 10th and enjoyed the heated pool with the jacuzzi. The girl at the front was phenomenal! She deserves a raise! She was super quirky, funny, sweet and lovable! Attended to our needs without hesitation all the while making myself, my fiancée and our 2 year old daughter so super happy! Would definitely stay here again. This trip went too fast. She even helped us by giving us a suite!!! I loved it so very much plus they had complimentary breakfast!! Oh and a game room is available plus a lounge room. They also have some pool toys although the boogie boards are not allowed in the water due to the material. I recommend they be removed and/pr thrown out if that's the case. They also have a book of dvd's if you want to watch a movie in the lounge area. The complimentary breakfast was a bit mediocre as I wish they had more variety. They had plain bagels, mini muffins and cheese danishes along with a coffee machine you can use all day. I recommend having a few varied bagels such as multigrain, seeded, etc. I loved this place so much! I am so glad I came and that my daughter enjoyed it as well!!! See you soon!!! read more

When in the Doo Wop Capital of the World, do it retro style! We rented one of the Airstream trailers for a 3-day weekend and had an amazing time. The Airstream is a totally unique experience with plenty of room for two (but I'm sure you could cram about 20 college students in there or make it a cozy family-of-4 vacation home base). We loved the energy efficiency in the trailer- the shower head can be shut off while you soap up without the water losing temperature and the toilet featured a foot pedal to pump in water before flushing. The boutique hotel is in the heart of Wildwood, walking distance to restaurants, the beach and the famous Boardwalk. The Airstream was private and functional with a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, 2 televisions and a lava lamp. Just outside the trailer, we enjoyed the communal space (shared with one other trailer) which featured two tables, palm trees and a grill for retro BBQ parties all surrounded by 60's style string lights. Well I will start off with a major correction to the last reviewers notes. The motif of the hotel is 50's. The description of the decor was pretty spot on in the other review, so I'll leave you to read that. We opted to stay in one of the Airstream Trailers. Both my fiance and myself, loved the trailers. They were quaint and clean. There was nice patio area that is nicely secluded from the street for a lot of privacy. We were able to make our own nightlife and not be bothered by passerby's. There was ZERO vomit when we stayed. Heck the pool was cleaned daily and kept in great shape. The pool heated (we stayed in September so the air at night was little chilly), and the hot tub was great. The ocean was chilly so after we got the sand cleaned off out limbs we would hop in the pool/hot tub for a bit to warm up. They have a nice continental breakfast in the morning. Just enough to give you the energy you need to take out one of the FREE bikes for a ride on the board walk. That's right I sad FREE! They have about 6 bikes that they rent out first come first serve to hotel guests. We both really enjoyed our morning bike rides on the board walk. This saved us over $30 in bike rentals during our stay. The hotel decor was nice and clean. The retro design was well executed. We will stay here again. read more

After spending the first Memorial weekend night at a disaster condo rental (felt like a half star trucker motel,) we were desperate to find an alternative to salvage the weekend holiday trip for the kids. We found the Starlux with the next 2 nights available. I immediately jumped on the reservation since it was the only hotel in Wildwood/Wildwood Crest that could accommodate my family of five. We were pleasantly surprised as to how CLEAN and COMFORTABLE the hotel was. The Starlux is across the street from the boardwalk. It was just a short walk on the boardwalk to the first Morey's Pier -- just far enough away from crazy teens. Overall, the Starlux is probably one of the best places to stay for families with young children if you want to be close to the heart of the Wildwood amusement park without the drunken nighttime craziness. My kids loved the hotel and they had an amazing time. Thanks Starlux for saving our weekend! read more

I am going to try my best to separate our first experience vacationing with a baby vs. our first experience at Starlux. I have wanted to stay at the Starlux since it opened. It has been a key leader in the revitalization of Wildwood, so I jumped at the chance when it was part of a flash sale during the shoulder season. First the pros: This is a clean refurbished motel. The decor is a fun fifties modern style. The two room suite was spacious including a smaller full size fridge, kitchen sink and cooktop. Plates and cutlery were provided. Bed was comfy enough - nothing to write home about (no gross coverlet here!). Loved the use of philosophy toiletries. Lovely heated pool, and hot tub. Nice extras include very basic continental breakfast, bicycle rental, DVDs, board games, grills, beach gear (chairs, umbrellas, sand stuff). The staff was very friendly and courteous. Location is great - steps to the beach and boardwalk. Also within walking distance several good restaurants including the Marvis Diner and Little Italy. Walking distance to a rental place for baby gear or wheelchairs. Now the cons: TVs are old tube ones when a flat screen would be nice (picky I know). We were placed at the bottom room 101. The road (which is a pretty major intersection with a light) proved to be very noisy well into late night even during the week and low season. As are the metal gates right outside the door for both the pool and the exterior leading to the parking lot. The stairs are right there too. It is easy to slam doors (and people did), and drawers and water were also very loud. This lead to a not very restful nap or sleep for our little one. If we had been there longer than two nights I definitely would have requested another room. In all, I would definitely stay here again, I would just be very picky and insistent on which room we received. Live and learn! read more

This was our 2nd visit to the Starlux & we loved it again! They have bikes to lend their customers so we rode the Boardwalk every morning and soaked in the hot tub or swam in their awesome heated pool in the afternoon & closed it one night! The continental breakfast every day was great and the retro rooms are so clean & comfortable. A short drive to Cape May for tea on Sunday & even a dip in the ocean on our last day. Omg, Star-LOVE. Got it off a Groupon deal for only $70-something a night, went in early June and it was so worth it! They are the cutest little place footsteps from the Wildwood & beachballs display off Morey's Pier. Free bike rentals (the bikes are in good condition and look "retro"!), free breakfast (bagels and danishes), Philosophy bath products, outdoor hot-tub, wireless...what more do you need?! The staff are SO friendly and wonderful too. Would totally stay here again. They are close to Dogtooth Bar & Grill (great place for dinner, actually nice and not like a dive or anything, see my review) and Marvis Diner (perfect breakfast joint, I mean it!) and will even lend you beach chairs and boogie boards!!!! read more

I originally booked a room at the Star Lux through Hotels.com. Shortly after, Jacquie called to let me know that the room I booked was unavailable and that there must have been a glitch on the Hotels.com website. I was able to get another room but it was with two double beds instead of a King. Jacquie did everything that she could to make sure their customer service was top-notch even though the glitch was on the Hotels.com website. I really appreciated her hospitality throughout our stay. At first sight, our room looked pretty clean but then I happened to look under the bed and there were pieces of dust and paper underneath. My husband and I thought the bathroom only looked dirty because it's styled to look retro but you could tell that the grout in between the tiles needed to be cleaned. Every day, 50 percent of our "clean" white bathroom towels were stained even though we assumed they were washed. The free wifi did not at all for me during our stay so I just turned off the wifi and used LTE. The hotel building and grounds are cute and attractive. They are very diligent about cleaning both the pool and hot tub every day. I love that they have beach cruiser bikes to use on a first-come-first-serve basis. I also liked that each room comes with a microwave and decent sized mini fridge. Despite Jacquie's excellent customer service I know we will not return to the Star Lux. This just really isn't our type of hotel. read more

I love this hotel!! This is the only place I will stay from now on whenever I visit Wildwood. The famous Wildwood sign is only a block away. The famous broadwalk is only two blocks away. The hotel staff are extremely friendly, one of the friendliest employees you will come across. I have been coming to Wildwood for over 18 years. We were not sure if we should give it a 5 stars ranking or not. The place is very nice and the atmosphere is really great and relaxing in this season (not crowded). The old fashion look from the 60's is really nice, alltogether with the old rocknroll music playing at the pool. People are really nice and helpfull. Smilling, corteous, bringing you towels at the pools, you have bikes you can borrow for a ride... The heated outside pool and the spa are really relaxing. The bad points that are not really bad as of today, but deserve to be watched and improved are : the breakfast is not that nice (a minimum let's say, but at least it is provided) and the overall hotel starts to be in old condition (still fine for now), stuff will need soon some maintenance before it is too late! We recommand the place and will be back! read more

I was very impressed with our stay at The Starlux. The place was incredibly clean and the staff members were extremely helpful and pleasant. It was close to the beach area and plenty of places to eat and drink within walking distance. I recommend the mudhen and bill's pancake house. Our room had plenty of space and we did not feel crowded at all. The bed was super comfortable too and surprisingly enough so was the pull out sofa. My family and I enjoyed our stay very much and are looking forward to staying again. read more

We love the starlux! It is clean, spacious and fun all around. The location can't be beat. We stayed here for one night last year before moving to another hotel where our "group" was staying. We were immediately bummed we didn't stay at the starlux. This year we booked the starlux right away. We arrived several hours before checkin time and our room was not ready. I wanted to get some groceries and inquired if we would be able to return and put our perishables in our fridge even if the room was not ready. Jackie at the front desk was so helpful. She said we could use their fridge if ours was not ready. 20 minutes later, while at the grocery store, Jackie called to let me know the room was ready. I never gave her my #, so she must have looked it up on my reservation. Both at is great customer service. Great wifi, comfy beds and an all-around "groovy" feel make this our favorite place to stay in Wildwood. read more

1 Block from the boardwalk, super cute 50s themed hotel. Room was perfect. Had mini kitchen with everything you might need. Adjoining living room with sleeper couch/tv etc. Separate bedroom with tv/closet/safe/iron&board/extra blankets. Balcony with chairs. Bathroom with LOTS of towels (woohoo!) and the mini soaps/shampoos etc were Neutrogena! Everything was clean. Good shower pressure. AC/heat worked well. Adjacent to the lobby was a game room with video games and air hockey and a separate breakfast room with tables and coffee etc. Clean pool w/hot tub that were not overrun with screaming kids (although we were there off peak! I'm SURE its crowded in the summer!). Bikes to borrow. Decent price. Overall super-pleased and WILL be back. read more

Last weekend was my anniversary, as a treat to ourselves we booked a room at the Starlux. Now mind you we have stayed here once before so we knew what to expect. We opted for a bigger room, with a queen bed, which was not the primary bed. That seemed to be a twin. But the pull out was a queen size. Our particular room lay out was kind of different. You walked in pretty much right into the bedroom with the bathroom on the right. Then you open a pocket door and there is the living space. Sofa, table chairs small kitchenette. Couple issues. The place looked a little banged up. Like the walls had little holes or marks. The TV stand seen better days. Not to mention the TV was inside the stand and pulled out. Made it awkward to veiw. Not to mention the kitchen island blocks the TV so for the most part if you eat at the table no way you can watch TV. It's minor. There are lots of positives. Like the kitchen style. Nice kitchenette, includes large fridge, microwave, coffee maker (old style) sink little counter. Plenty of plugs for power. A little balcony, ours didn't have a good veiw. But it's nice to have. Tip the door to the balcony turns up to open. Not down like we assumed lol. Now another knock is whatever tv package they have with direct TV. Well kind of sucks. Missing a lot of prime channels, like travel channel, food Network, HGTV. If there were there we couldn't find them. It was a little frustrationing since we tend to watch those channels a lot.. the staff was quite friendly. There is a TON of amenities, like complimentary Continental breakfast on the weekends. A game room. A conference room, beautiful pool with hot tub. A quaint little lounge, on top of free bike rentals, and more! The positives way out way any negatives. It's close to the beach, they have their own mini golf course. Which is great fun. All and all we had a great stay. While our room did need a little TLC, i recommend Starlux. read more

This was our second year staying at the Star Lux and we love it! The free bike rentals and beach equipment rentals are great, the pool and rooms are clean and the staff, including the maids, are so sweet. We love the decor, the music and the whole feel of the place! I accidentally left a gold necklace in the room - this necklace is very special to my family, it was given by my grandmother before she died. We called the front desk - and the necklace was found and mailed back to us!!!! Stephanie, the maid, found and turned in the necklace - but i believe the man i spoke with, who mailed it back to us, is the one with light colored hair who is often at the check in desk. I decided last minute to go down the shore heard great things about the starlux so why not .. should of looked around more .. spent $155 for a bed and toilet .. the toilet didnt work !! How can you rent out a room without a working toliet?! Not only that but there were ants everywhere.. in the bed the floor and the fridge .. called the front desk and she totally brushed it off!! Will not be staying here again. read more
