It would have been great if the sign on the highway said the bathrooms were closed here. There were a number of cars that pulled off because we thought we could stop to use the bathroom. Incorrect. Very frustrating when you really have to use the bathroom and could have just kept going instead of wasting time.

This place was something we stumbled on as a "rest stop" driving through NY and boy am I glad we did. What an amazing park and welcome center. I could have spent a nice leisurely lunch here. The view of the locks, the water so still and beautiful, the walkway with historical information, play area for kids and vending machines with special NY treats and items was great. I have told all my friends if they ever drive through Mohawk Valley they really need to go here

What a cute rest stop. Would be a five star stop if there were more food options. Came here on a road trip and the bathrooms are clean. There is no food stations but there are vending machines and a small coffee shop. The inside of the rest stop is clean and filled with history of the area. The outside is well kept with a small kids park, a grassy area, and a scenic view for stopping and stretching your legs. Very cool place to stop.

Really nice welcome area, with beautiful views of the Mohawk River and surrounding scenery. There's a playground and electric car charges. There's plenty of green space and benches to picnic. There's also informative signs outside, and an interactive exhibit inside. Bathrooms are clean. Most of the food they sell is made in NY state. The only downside is that the food options are limited and everything is in a vending machine. However the wraps and sandwiches are made on-site so they're fresh. Wraps go for about $10, sandwiches about $5. There's no gasoline here. Good spot to take a break and try something NY made, and great if you have kids because the playground looked awesome!

Very beautiful spot to stop, wonderful view and maintained really well! Nice fenced dog area but also lots of other room to walk, cute rest stop (only vending machines that have cool local offerings).

Although gray rainy day, this welcome center was very inviting.

Traveling home from the Tulip festival in Albany we were pleasantly surprised by this rest area. Clean bathrooms, friendly attendant selling coffee, and nice walking area with a couple of picture opportunities is what we found. There is also a dog walking area and plenty of history to read about, so if you need to stop while traveling westbound on I90 between Albany and Syracuse definitely stop as it's a nice break.

    Kids play area

This is a very nice, clean welcome center with a fun outdoor play area for kids, walking paths, and green space. We all appreciated a stop along the interstate with a space safe for kids to run and burn off energy.

One of the most breath taking rest stops ever. I wish I lived closer to be able to visit this gorgeous place. So peaceful as we watched the train go by and took in the water, flowers and scenery. The fenced in area for dogs was a nice touch. Double gated so pups won't run away but can be free to frolic. The children's area was very cool with a climbing structure and rubberized walk ways.

The king of rest areas, not a travel service plaza but a combined tourist information center, historical park, and riverside waypoint by Lock 13 of the Erie Canal. It's between exits 28 and 29, westbound only, at milepost 187. There's no gas or restaurant service but despite this (or maybe because of it) it's the nicest rest area I've ever been to and, quite seriously, worth a day trip just to see it. Amenities: - two dog runs - free Taste of NY coffee (automated espresso machine for a small fee) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 365 days a year - an Erie Canal-themed playground that has to be seen; cool custom versions of canal boats, loading areas, and cargo to play on in rubberized format - a nice hiking trail with historical interpretation about the history of the Erie Canal and the Mohawk Valley - a modern tourist information center, with some touchscreen exhibits and a small historical display, and lots of nice café seating, including table shaded and in the sun on a veranda to the rear overlooking the river; there's also a neat in-floor map - very nice and clean modern restrooms in the welcome center - nice picnic tables dotted around - Lock 13 on the Erie Canal, right in the service area, so in-season you can watch boats lock through - electrical vehicle charging stations - an automated DMV service machine, where you can get a copy of your driving record or renew vehicle registrations and perform some other DMV business 24/7 - kind of unique "Taste of New York" vending machines, featuring products ranging from Maple syrup and drinkable yogurt to native pepitas and apple cider! There's four of them dotted around. It's so pleasant it's worth planning an itinerary around, especially in the warm weather months.

    Best stop in the state

What a great stop in upstate Ny! Clean, super friendly and helpful staff and another way to explore in Ny state. This is first class. From the Ny vending machines etc it's all great.

The Mohawk Valley Welcome Center is a clean and well kept service area. It has vending machines, rest rooms, dining area, walking paths, and a place to watch Lock E-13. There are three EV chargers out front and plenty of parking for cars, trucks, and RVs. Each of the information kiosks and displays are informative and I definitely learned a few new things about NYS.

This maybe one of the fancier rest stops I've been to. Looks like one of those modern historical buildings on the outside and when you walk in the left side displays historical artifacts and a historical map displayed on the ground. One of the cleanest rest stops I've been too, very well maintained. Interactive games for kids and an outside playground. Bathrooms are spotless and well kept. I'm not quite sure if there are people who are working inside as it was completely empty but we also stopped during a snow storm. Mainly vending machines, no real convenient store. They have a free charging station for phones and they have atms as well.

Other than the cool fact that it's in the Amsterdam area (but not that Amsterdam unfortunately), the gas is 10-30 cents overpriced but you can't get off the highway to get gas because you have to pay more in tolls if you do it that way. The food here is all pretty awful (haven't tried all of it though) and everything inside is overpriced, as usual for these plazas. They do have free Wi-Fi but don't stay too long, because if you fall asleep here or get caught up on your laptop, the people at the toll booth when you exit, will think that you're playing them for fools and will try and charge you full price $25 or so, because you stayed on the highway too long. Sigh. But at least you'll have an awesome Mohawk hairdo.

This is highly inappropriate since staff there have to endure the heat and guests were all complaining. A rest stop is supposed to be a reprieve, not a place you try to avoid. The flies were awful and the McDonald's staff had to have fly swatters while they work. There is no ice cream vendor open here anymore. Further, the women's room was filthy, more on par with a port-a-potty in cleanliness and upkeep (watch out for no toilet paper). It's a heat wave summer. Travelers need healthy places to stop. This was not it.

It has just a Dunkin and a Green Apple convenience store inside and a Mobil gas station outside. The bathroom was clean and looked pretty new, which led me to a curious observation. The men's room had none of the hot air hand dryers that have been common for the last decade or so. They didn't even have a paper towel dispenser on the wall. The only option for drying my hands was a roll of paper towels standing upright on a sink. Kind of bizarre, don't you think?

This is yet another example of absolutely awful price hikes and upcharging and price gouging at rest areas. Every Fast Food Outlet in here is massively overpriced, some more than others. Coffee is almost twice the price it is supposed to be. The gas here is anywhere from $0.10 to $0.40 more expensive than it would be off the highway, but off-highway gas is kind of a no-go because you have to pay extra in tolls to get off and on the highway again, nearly negating the difference. Not to mention waiting at the toll booth oftentimes, costing you several minutes. They know the majority aren't going to do that and they upcharge you accordingly. Grr. So they really screw you over with this toll road and these plazas. Now they are good for stopping and resting and sleeping, pretty safe with all the trucks around, and they have pretty decent facilities, but having said that, the service at a lot of these little places is awful. And perhaps worst of all, if you nap for too long, then when you try to get off and pay your toll, you could well get the third degree about being on the Thruway for too long and they could accuse you of trying to cheat the system. Good times all around.
