After just barely making it halfway through my order, I'm compelled to immediately write that others are right. For price, quantity, and taste, the lamb doner kebab cannot be beat. 6 pounds in 2018! There's a slight depth of flavor that I've not really sensed in other doner eating times. And the gyro bread is good. Yes it's fast food, probably super high in fat and salt, but beats eating at the McDonald's or Five guys. Just walk an extra mile. Ordering tips: choose the small unless you need to feed four, after they carve the meat, warm it up, and put it in styrofoam tray, they will ask you which sauce (white and/or red-spicy) you want. Make sure you are ready. After that, they will ask "salad?", but it's really to know which veggies you want- lettuce onion, pickled cabbage, tomatoes. Easier to say "all" if you aren't against onions. You may want to buy an extra piece of flatbread. read more

My wife and my daughter went to the O2 to watch Evanescence and on the way home they had a 20-minute wait for their train. Crystal Kebab - Kings Cross was the only place open so my wife brought 2 drinks - a coke and a bottle of water both £1.5 each - she didn't check the amount on the card reader and found she was charge £4 each - £8 for 2 drinks that should have cost £3! You have been warned - avoid this place as my wife or daughter did not drinking any alcohol so if you are drunk be careful as it could be the most expensive takeaway you've ever had read more

It was the only late night place in Kings Cross and we were tired and hungry. The food was terrific - I dont know if that was because we were so tired and hungry or it was really delicious. They did the best in what they are trying to do - I rarely give 5 stars and almost all of them are fine dining. However, as a midnight meal place - this place is fantastic. VERY generous portion.. almost too generous.. Quality wise, I ordered doner and chicken mix combo with chips. They did a good job tho I don't think they are the sort of food that can go wrong. After wandering into McDonalds, I decided to try this place next door, as I could've had McDonalds about anywhere in the world, might as well try a local restaurant. I'm glad I did. Crystal Kebab is exactly what I would expected from a kebab place. It's good food at a good price. I got the Lamb Doner for 6 pounds, and it contained a generous helping of both the lamb and the acidic, but crispy and delicious, veggies. There's a garlic sauce and a spicy sauce to help enhance the flavor of the meat, but it's already quite good on its own. I'm very satisfied for what I paid, and would come back. read more

Gradually improving! Now Crystal Kebab has reached an acceptable level of late night/drunk food after a slightly shaky start. Hoorah! Now I'm getting to know the staff better the visits are a little more of an interesting experience. When they're busy they play 'good kebab server, bad kebab server'. Arrived London late without having dinner. We looked around and most of the restaurants were closed and we didn't want to go to Burger King, McDonald's or Five Guys. We found this place and walked in and ordered a couple kebab meals to go. Surprisingly, it was delicious. The shish chicken was cooked in front of us and they special sauce was awesome. Pretty delicious kebab for my late night food hunt! I was not going to succumb to the powers that are McDonald's (next door) so i went on a kebab hunt. Thankfully this was pretty close to our Airbnb so it wasn't much of a trek. We got the chicken doner and the mixed doner and both were great! Service was very quick and price was reasonable. I stumbled upon... no, I'll start again. I stumbled into Crystal Kebabs in the early hours of Saturday morning after eight pints at The Fellow followed by vodkas aplenty at the club where Drink Shop Do is. This my first visit after two and a half years of working in Kings Cross. The delay being that I often see the staff loading the meat onto the spits in the morning on the way to work. Raw kebab. Not pretty. But alcohol has a habit of weakening defences built up to keep one healthy and essentially alive. The bright lights and stainless steel interior glinted as I squinted and then the smell of grilled animal is ever such a powerful persuader. Inside, the clientele are all on a similar wavelength. Slurred but happy orderers swaying as they peer at the menu on the wall, undecided. The kebab vortex. Everyone's chatty, really chatty. And the staff are friendly and chatty back. I didn't need to peer at the wall menu. I was there for only one thing. The staff new it. They were already there assembling before I got the word 'doner' out. I admired the expert slicing. At least one piece an unbroken ribbon of meter long meat. These are skills appreciated in the finest kitchens. As I swayed there admiring I wondered about an amuse bouche. I could be there for all of two minutes waiting for the doner without any food in my mouth. That could spell problems. I immediately ordered chips, and they immediately came. Stiff, hot French fries served beautifully in bright yellow polystyrene and drenched in salt and vinegar. Loads of them. Job's a goodun. I tucked straight in and continued talking with the other customers and admiring the skills of the staff. The place is designed so that wherever you are it's like being at the chef's table. Salad? Yes. Mayo? Yes. Chili sauce? Yes. Onion? Yes. Pepper? Yes. All this beautifully encased in a wrap rather than the usual pitta bread. Nice touch. I left swearing I wouldn't open this until I got home. Easy to say when you still have chips in your hand. But would I stay true to my word? One other nice touch with Crystal is that they give you a blue striped plastic carrier bag to put your food in. This is all the disguise you need when trying to hail a cab and not wanting them to suss you have had a skinful and are about to break open a dirty kebab in their carriage. Cab man fooled, I carried on munching through the chips. The delicat balance of starch and fat did a fine job of quelling my stomach which was now angry with acid and bile. I got home and unwrapped my kebab. What a picture. Vibrant salad, grey brown meat set off with the red of the chili sauce. And best of all, much of the fat had solidified into pretty white globules. A nice touch. Almost a shame to eat it, but eat I did. And very tasty it was. The meat powerfully seasoned with herbs and spices and cut thin. A healthy mix of crispy 'outside meat' and juicier inside stuff. Just what meat it was I couldn't work out. But that didn't take away from its unctuous mouth feel and umami taste. About half way through the meal I started to slow up. Generous portions and the powerful headiness of the ensemble were taking their toll. I needed a sleep. I was awoken on my sofa by the smell of my own breath at 5am but with the sustenance of a Crystal Kebab inside me managed to negotiate the stairs and join my lucky partner for some deep sleep. Staff is very rude, possibly racist. I was treated significantly different than my light skinned friend. One staff member wouldn't let me talk directly to him; the other yelled at me for asking which sauce he recommended for the falafel. Once I got the food it was disgusting. The onion rings, crisps with cheese, falafel and even the lamb lofts were the worst I've ever tasted. I never eat at mcdonalds and I'm wishing I went there instead of this place. It's surprising when you find a kebab you actually enjoy. Sure you're a little bit intoxicated by not so much you don't realise just what you are eating. We went to Crystal Kebab on Steph's insistence that there must be a decent kebab in KX. I was doubtful, but thought I might as well give it a try. To be fair, I had my bike with me so had been careful to pace myself so I was sober enough to ride at the end of the night. With that in mind, I must say the kebab was hot, fresh (weird description for a kebab I know), and flavourful. The lamb was sliced off with a knife as opposed to the ubiquitous shaver favoured by many a kebab shop. That tells you the meat is fresh and recently cooked as opposed to shaved and stewed like so many do. There was a constant stream of people even at midnight on a Friday. And I don't mean your run of the mill drunk bar-goers but rather a mix of people from late-night bankers to hi-vis coated construction workers to alcoholics like ourselves. All this means that this is a kebab joint to keep in mind. Their garlic sauce doesn't ward off vampires though time but instead adds a depth of flavour and their coleslaw is a welcome acidic bite through the rich meatiness. All in all, I apologise for my avid questioning (one guy comes for Turkey, the other from iran) but this was one of the best kebabs I had in London. Just delightful. I have to take this review a step farther than some of the other reviewers, since as someone living in a place almost devoid of "true" kebab options, I may have a slightly different bar. That said, I make it a point to hit multiple kebab places every time I visit Europe and this one is a standout for several reasons. 1) I can eat it any time of day. Similar to my review for Amsterdam Falafel (see the DC collection) it's good as a snack, as a meal, as a late-night dining option. You can adjust size or order based on how hungry you are and what time it is, done very simply. 2) Excellent value! At £4 and no more than £10 there are very few ways to get more fresh, good food for less in London. 3) Meat quality and spicy chili garlic sauce. These are the real differentiators in delicious factor. I challenge you to tell me you don't start noticing after reading this review. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE - and have even converted a friend who goes after Salsa on a regular basis. Now the reason this is 5 Star for me is their Veggie option and I have been in enough now that they know me and know my order. Nice!! I can highly recommend the falafel. It is not too salty and fried to perfection, not soggy but warm inside and doesn't fall apart too much when you eat it! If you fancy a bit more that just falafel you can get what I get an go for a mix falafel and Halloumi!! Oh yes!! Just that perfect mix to give you that really good veggie wrap that you longed for after a night out or a night at work or you are just passing by!! I know the last one not so good but so hard to resist!! But if the veggie is not what you are after then I have it on good authority by Ian P that the Lamb wrap is pretty damn good too!! And he is pretty particular about his Shawarma!! And one more positive - it is really reasonably priced for the amount you get too. Bottle of water for 70p? Why yes please! Considering that a bottle of water in the hotel a few doors down is a couple of quid, I suggest that you stock up here in Crystal Kebab for all your bottled water needs is you are staying nearby. The kebab was not bad either. I only had a small taste, but I can say the chilli sauce is good. It's amazing what they can do here with such a small space. The staff were very friendly and nice too. Wow. What a great find. My wife and I were wandering around and wanted something "clean" to eat---no McDonald's type stuff. We walked in and I got the lamb kebab with white sauce and she got the chicken for take-away. So delicious. The meat on each was so moist and juicy, grilled over the flame, and wrapped in the yummy freshly cooked flatbread. It was filled with coool, crunchy cucumbers, pickled red cabbage, pickles, tomatoes, and drizzled with that garlicky white sauce that gave it the right touch. This place saved our hiney one evening when the kids were starving but too jetlagged to go out. Delicious kebabs and doner and for a great price. Asked for the sauce on the side (chili sauce spicy) and the kids (and I) wolfed it down. All the meats without pita were gluten free! It's a late night kebab shop right next to Kings X. The Ivy, it ain't. But it IS the sister to the amazing Crystal kebab on Holloway road and as a result the food is top quality and very reasonable.
