Got takeaway, which was on time and hot. What can I say, Nando's is an institution! Love love love this chicken. This was my first time trying their chicken wings (typically I get a platter), and these were great! We got "wing roulette", meaning that we weren't sure what spice levels/flavors we were going to get. This was fun and it was a good mix! Wings were uniquely shaped, like both the drumstick shape and the wing shape together. Each wing was juicy, had that nice chargrilled flavor, and of course packed a punch with sauce flavors. If you want to know how ethnically diverse London is, just go to a Nando's. Any location would probably do, and Jamie W. and I went to the Blackfriars Road location because it was literally across the street from our hotel. This was on our first evening in London, and we were pretty jet lagged. Convenience and quickness were key considerations, and they've got that part down as we made our order to the shift manager at the counter. She assigned us a table as it was pretty crowded and lively. Their specialty is peri peri chicken, a spiced-up roasted chicken that originated in Mozambique and has exploded in popularity in most of the world. Except apparently the US where in the past few years, I recall one short-lived cafe specializing in peri peri in San Francisco. But there are over 1,200 Nando's worldwide with several in London and none in California. Jamie and I ordered the same dish but with different sides and different degrees of heat measured by their Peri-ometer), the £13.25 ($15.75) plate of 4 Chicken Thighs with Two Sides. This Nando's store is right opposite Southwark Station, due to being so close to a main underground station, it can get noisy with trains passing through every couple of minutes, at time the restaurant can shake, but still, the store does look pretty good with innovative décor including booths which are egg-shaped huts with power-sockets up two or three steps, they do also have pretty decent seating you'd expect to find in a regular Nando's, it is pretty spacious overall. I did have a problem ordering, it was a frustrating experience with the staff member who made me repeat both my payment method, order and loyalty card number multiple times, which was down to his own bad service and the systems. For example, despite asking for large chips twice, he tried to just put in one regular portion, after I mentioned it he had to enter my loyalty card again. He also persisted I used my red reward to make the food free, even though I told him I wanted to save it for another time (when I was ordering something more expensive), which at first would have meant giving me one-side when I could have had two anyway. He did rectify this but only as I persisted to only use an orange reward (chicken free, pay for the sides). I changed my regular order on this occasion and I decided on the 1/2 chicken with medium spice, the chicken breast piece was pretty enjoyable but the leg, I found to taste a little fatty with the smaller amount of meat being on the leg - I wish I'd have asked for two breast pieces! The peri-peri chips were pretty good, as usual. Other than the issue with how noisy it gets when tubes are passing under the restaurant, it is a pretty decent Nando's store even though getting every part of my order right which wasn't too complicated as the majority of other stores can manage it, did seem like he was trying to translate Morse code. 3* read more

We came here at 10pm / 22:00 when we were hungry and wanted a late night bite to eat. The chicken was delicious and chips were perfect. I had the Fino Pitta which hit the spot. My husband said the wings were 10/10 (and he's eaten a lot of wings). Definitely recommend. read more

The waiter who took my order incorrectly inputted the additional side as a "regular", which I then told him I ordered a "large". He still didn't change the order and added another "regular" order, saying that the price was the same. I checked the price later, and it was not the same. For what is essentially a sit-down fast food chain, this gets top marks for upscale décor and layout. The chicken is tender and juicy and the heat categories are about what you'd expect. If you're traveling and you want to discover something special in London, this is not it. But if you're at southwark and want something quick and delicious this is a great choice. Refillable self-serve soda is nice (given it's not too common here). The chips are fine but nothing special (and peri-chips are simply chips with some spice mix sprinkled on top). read more

For their delicious chicken & chips alone, Nando's in any location in London deserve 5 stars (I'm a Nando's fiend, I must confess). I stumbled upon this location for the 1st time last night while giving my American friends a tour of London, en route to the Tate/Millennium Bridge. As usual, the food was great, the service was great, the ambiance/decor- for a high-street food chain- excellent. But this particular one gets the personal award for Most Brilliantly Designed Nandos. Why? They have 2-story tall "birdhouse"-looking structures that double as table sections!! I thought that was completely cool and it really impressed my tourist friends, as they were with the food. This Southwark location (right outside the Southwark station) might not be in the most prime, Central location, but I think out of all the Nando's in London their interiors are a must-see. I do have to knock off a star for intermittent noise from the trains speeding above the restaurant. Having a Nando's under the rail arches is a neat idea, but I can see patrons getting quickly tired/disturbed by the grumbling overhead. read more

My first time at Nando's and it did not disappoint! The ambiance of this branch is nicer than I've seen elsewhere, it's a nice place to sit with friends especially if you get the nest tables. We had the whole chicken (level HOT) to share with four "small" sides. The small sides were PLENTY big and allowed us to try more. The peri-peri fries are an essential order and came out freshly fried and well seasoned. The corn, coleslaw, and garlic bread all were excellent. The chicken was also great! Nando's is known for its seasoning and sauces and that's definitely the best part. The meat was slightly dry but that gave us more excuse to drown it in sauce. I'd say the Sunset burger has been one of the best burgers I've had outside! The chicken was beautifully roasted and loved the red pepper on top. I could've gone for a bit more spicier version as the medium didn't do much but overall a very good burger for a reasonable price (£8). I did NOT like the butternut squash dish with spinach, quite bland and tasteless if I'm honest and thus a waste of £3 that could've been spent on chips or sweet potatoes oh well... the atmosphere is nice, although a bit tooo loud! But I must say it's a lovely place for a (cheap) date as the interior bungalows are cute and create intimacy. read more

I always love a good meal at Nando's, but this branch is my personal favourite. Nando's is a chain of Portuguese restaurants specialised in chicken. They offer such a wide range of chicken dishes that anybody can find something to their taste. It's rather inexpensive, and of good quality as far as i can tell. As well as chicken they specialise in hot spiced dishes. Don't worry though, they will always ask for your preference regarding the spicing (careful, hot is REALLY hot, and i do love spicy food). If you feel like adding more spice to it, they have quite a range of sauces in the drinks/cutlery/seasoning area. You can even buy them (which i recommend), to cook at home (it is oh so delicious !). With every dish you can chose from one tot two side dishes (or none) for a bit more money. If you take the chips i would recommend you ask for a bit of their spicy seasoning, as well as their spicy sauce (i forgot the name), it's gorgeous. The only dish that did not convince me was the garlic bread. It was a bit stale or something. I could have asked for another batch but after the chicken and chips i wasn't hungry anymore. The orders are taken at a counter near the entrance, but then they bring your plate to your table. Remember to acknowledge your table number before going to order (i personally forget all the time, still getting used to UK customs i'm afraid). You can ask for an empty glass for water, and if you order a drink they should give it to you. Soda drinks from the fountain are unlimited. This branch is more special than the others because of its interior design. Situated right out of the Southwark station, under train rails, it's hard to miss it. I absolutely love the bird houses they have designed inside. They created some cage/nest looking "eggs" (that's what we call them) that turn out to be large tables for big gatherings. I always ask to be placed in an "egg" but they seem to be popular, so watch out the time you want to come, you might not get one (if like me, you turn out to be obsessed with these, which you probably won't, i realise). The rest of the restaurant is beautiful as well, sort of a cave looking atmosphere, but in a good way. The arch making it even better looking. The only problem i find with this location is the intermittent train noises that make the place shake. First time i panicked a little bit before i remembered we were under rails. read more

What can I say other than I love Nando's. I've been to a few locations and have always really enjoyed their spicy Peri Peri Chicken. I just got out of the Southwark Station and was ready for lunch, when like a beacon calling me, there was this Nando's. I knew it was meant to be because they had just opened, so we went inside. We were immediately greeted, given some menus, and directed to a booth. We wondered if Nando's now had table service because I had always gone to the counter to order. After waiting for a few minutes we realized this one was no different. We got he combo meal, which is a whole chicken, two small sides, and two drinks. For the sides we got the Peri spiced chips and Grilled Vegetables. The veggies were our only disappointment because it's mostly tomatoes and onions. We were hoping for a few more types of veggies and we'll know that for next time. One of the things I love about Nando's is they have all the sauces you could want available to put on your chicken. I really enjoyed the extra hot and extra extra hot, which may not be for everyone. My wife really likes the Lemon herb sauce, which to me was good but definitely not spicy, so there's something for everyone. Next time I see a Nando's on my travels I'll be sure to stop in. read more
