Shady owner switches tips and shuts the door in customers' faces. I've been a loyal customer at this salon for over FIVE years, and I've always loved the girls who work there -- they are kind, talented, and hardworking. Unfortunately, after what I experienced today, I will NEVER be returning. Over the years, I've noticed how the owner speaks to his employees -- often condescendingly -- and I've seen several great technicians leave. Today crossed a line I can't ignore. After my manicure and pedicure, I tipped both technicians directly through the envelopes the owner handed me. A few minutes later, one of the girls quietly came up to ask if I had tipped her a certain amount -- turns out, the owner switched the cash tips I gave them, which is considered tip theft and is ILLEGAL in PA. When I asked why, he told me he changed them based on "percentages," as if he had the right to decide how my money should be divided. I told him that's completely inappropriate -- it's the customer's choice, not his. Instead of apologizing, he told one technician to hand a dollar to the other to "make it even," completely missing the point. When I calmly said this behavior was dishonest and unfair, he took one of the girls to the back and shut the door -- I spoke up because I didn't want her being scolded for his actions. I waited over 15 minutes to speak with him, and when I finally got the chance, he literally shut the door in my face. I left in tears -- not just because of how I was treated, but because of how poorly this man treats his employees. The staff deserves so much better. It's a shame to see such good people work under someone who behaves like this. If you care about integrity, respect, and basic decency for other humans, take your business & hard earned money elsewhere. read more

Technician never told me it's a $10 fee to remove gel until I got stuck with it on the bill... I would have removed it myself then come back. I asked the Technician to smooth out an area that was clearly not smooth from what she did. She told me that it's extra to use the machine...which I was surprised and shocked. Follow up Unfortunately, I had to block the salon's phone number due to numerous calls from the owner. I have not gone back since. I also have not had a problem with nail fungus or lifting at the salon I currently frequent. No other tech, past or present, has mentioned that I have "short" nail beds. Again if you go in for a basic mani/pedi, be satisfied. Atmosphere is very quiet and relaxing. Such a shame because I did want to try the spa pedi. I never did use the 20% off discount since I rarely ever give a business a five star review unless I'm blown away. 11/15/19. I appreciate owner response. I'll add another star for the offer to rectify the situation. I'm interested in eco friendly artificial nail extensions. I have been going to Crystal Nails off and on for 20 years, and I have been very satisfied until today. I made an appointment for a manicure and pedicure today, got there a few minutes early, and had my pedicure, which was awesome. This is the total truth, I was half finished with my manicure, the manager asked me to get up and wait 10 minutes, because I was supposed to get my manicure during my pedicure, and the girl who was doing it had a client. I was taken back, I said fine, but I will not wait midway through because I wasn't scheduled properly, I'd leave and do the rest at home. The customer who was waiting, said she would wait until I was finished. He acted like it was my fault or the tech's, but clearly it was his mistake. I finished, paid, and I told him that was awkward, it wasn't my fault that no one came and did my manicure during my pedicure, how was I to know. He said in an annoyed voice, it's over, don't talk about it, not it was my fault and I handled it very poorly, I am sorry. He and everyone there knew knew it was ridiculous. If I could give this place 10 stars - I would! Very great service. My usual technician at another location was unavailable so I came to Yelp to save me! I have a graduation tomorrow (big day for me) & I need my nails done. Well I stop by here & (1) the owner is spectacular! (2) technicians are very friendly (3) very accommodating! I was in a rush since I have so many things to get done before graduation @ 10am & they were able to get me in & out in an hour. That's with a refill & polish change on my toes. I normally take 2 hours anywhere else since I only use gel products & it's a lot more maintenance. The owner gave me 2 of his technicians which I thought was very sweet - just to get me out sooner! I should have went with my first thought and immediately went to another place and gotten them redone but I didn't. It's been less then two weeks and I now have fungus on two of my nails. I have never experienced anything like this in my life!!! Mind you I'm 9 months pregnant and have to now consult my doctor to ensure this doesn't harm my unborn child. Crystals was close to closing when I made my emergency nail trip right from that other salon to have my nails fixed and they still took me and Cindy (amazing) cleaned up my nails beautifully and helped with the soreness I felt in my fingers after the rough treatment at the previous place. I live a very busy lifestyle as a private Chef. I wash my hands constantly and maintenance every two weeks with a French super gel manicure exclusively at Crystal Nails. I had started getting the dipping done at a salon near where I live. Once it got out that dipping was really bad for your nails, I made the switch to Crystal nails because my girlfriend has been coming here for years. My best friend was visiting about a month ago and I brought her here which is absolutely nowhere near home. My commute is usually anywhere from 35 minutes to 45 minutes on the way home. To most it may seem silly to travel that far to get your nails done. But I have come to trust and rely on Crystal nails to tell me the truth instead of being more interested in making a sale. The last time I had the French dipping....it destroyed my nails underneath and I was so upset. Last month is when we discovered that Crystal nails had come up with their own " super gel"manicure. Fantastic for me and their guarantee of 2+ weeks (same as dipping does) is true and it's much healthier for my nails I came into Crystal nails and spa at 6:30 PM. Still considering myself a new customer I figured I had a 50/50 shot at them saying they would still take me. I certainly didn't want to keep anybody later than they were supposed to get off but I was running out of time and my nails really needed done. I've been going here for many years and have never left dissatisfied. Every employee is excellent and the married Owners are a delight. Recently started using Super Gel and love it so much more than powder. It lasts longer (and I'm very active outside, go to gym, use computer etc), there is more of a color variety, it takes less time to take off and put on, and my nails are more healthy and strong than when I used powder. this place was a big disappointment . the older woman with short hair filed my nails down to their stubs. She was one cranky person. she did not ask if I wanted square or round, long or short. As much as I want to like this place, my experience was a disappointment. I got a regular mani/pedi and I was there almost 2.5 hours. Prior to leaving the salon, my nails were immediately damaged even though ample drying time was given. I complained, so they promptly fixed my nails, but within the hour of me being home 4 were badly damaged. I took off all the polish. My toes looked fine, but the manicure was horrible. I will not be returning. Although you have offered me a redo, I prefer to stick with a different salon and would appreciate not being contacted (called or messaged). Thank you. read more

I've been to Crystal Nails 3 or 4 times, and I won't go again. It is a big, very clean place. The end result has always looked great. But... it's expensive. I never feel pampered here (I like Elegant Nails, just down Germantown for that). And the last time I went my cuticle was cut too aggressively and it bled and bled and bled. Anyone can make a mistake, but she seemed annoyed about it rather than apologetic. There are much better options. As other reviewers have mentioned, the male owner of this salon is very abrasive in an off-putting way. I came in for a dip powder as they are one of the only salons in the area that offers this service. I asked the owner for a color similar to a picture I had on my phone and he immediately cut me off and said they can not match colors to pictures.. ok, this is understandable.. However he then starts questioning my reason for even wanting to get dip powder telling me that it's bad for my nails and several clients have gotten a fungus from it! I am VERY appreciative of his honestly and that he mentioned this to me (therefore my 3 star rating), however, I am questioning why this salon even offers this service if customers have had these terrible issues and if you end up trying to talk your clients out of even getting this service altogether. I am also unappreciative of how this man was talking to me and felt extremely uncomfortable that he was questioning me in a very loud voice in front of other customers. I have unfortunately had to switch nail technicians about 4 times now due to the ladies either leaving to have a baby, get married or another one hurting me. I go to Esther now, who is probably the most popular one there. The prices are a little high, but I love pampering myself so going every other week is worth it to get gel nail refills. Crystal Nails has poor customer service, I have been their a few time to get my nails and feet done and everytime the service went downhill, but the icing on the cake is when was after I paid for my refill the owner who is a male said to me that his prices of his services was posted and that after your service that you are expected to pay an 18% tip to the technician for their service all I can do was look at him like he was crazy. So being as though that their prices is ridiculously expensive, you pay $55 for a gel refill which consist of $35 for the gel refill and $20 for the gel polish and $60 for a pedicure thats $115 which is to much but to ask a person to pay an 18% tip on top of it this is just observe. For one if they ask you to cut down your nails in which the price is $15 and if you break an nail to have it fix is $5 per nail, now add it up all up if you need to get all of this done and on top they want you to pay an extra 18% tip!!! If you say no that you don't want them to fix your she will say something to him in their language and he will come over and try to convience you and if you say no he will then tell her to stop what she's doing while she in the middle of doing your nails and say that he's not going to serivce you. So after I paid for my refill I told him that I pay the technician an $10 tip everytime I had serivce done and for him to tell me that wasn't enough this man is truly crazy and for him to say this in front of a crowded salon this was very unprofessional, at this moment all I can do was get my son and leave before I cursed him out!!! me leaving was me not stepping down to his level which was ignorance!!! There was a groupon for a mani/pedi which I thought was a reasonable way to try it again. I requested to pay more to get a gel manicure and was told "no". The girls are always friendly, they give a nice mani and peddi, and I always feel relaxed after spending time there.They offer a hot stone massage with their pedi which I love, and they end all of their treatments with a relaxing neck massage which is also very nice. During the winter months, hot neck warmers will keep you toasty as you enjoy their services. They also do a nice job with eyebrow waxing. The salon is always clean and inviting. Stay away from nasty screaming owner who yells at staff and customers in front of entire business operation. He is abusive! Check for harmful ingredients in some of the products. Are implements disinfected after each customer? He has ATM machine to be sure customers have cash to pay does not accept credit cards under a certain dollar amount.
