After just moving here and in search of a pair of season rentals in January, I admittedly came to Crystal after I had tried Christy's. It was chaos. A Friday night meant everyone was trying to go skiing the following weekend, so there were probably 40 people trying to rent skis. Needless to say, the man helping me was clearly overwhelmed, and I'd be lying if I said I had wonderful service. But, I left happily with some outdated Rossignols and all was well for me this season. I was pretty happy with those rental skis, so upon buying my first pair of skis, I went to Crystal to purchase bindings and have them mounted. Unfortunately, since it's April, many of the ski shops are out of bindings or have stopped carrying them this season, and Crystal had a limited supply as a result. The only pair they had left were 10mm larger than the waist of my ski - which is a little large, but one sales associate insisted that it would be fine. And I was determined to go skiing on my new skis the following weekend. I was tempted to compromise for the large brakes, or even purchases the bindings and swap out the brakes later, but this man handed me a binder with listings of phone numbers of every other ski shop in Boulder and said, "Feel free to call around and see if you can find some bindings that fit." He said he just knew if it were his skis, he'd want to be very particular about the size of the bindings he mounts, and he'd be worried about the large brakes getting caught in a tight parallel turn. He just passed up a potentially large sale for the sake of making sure I had the *best possible* brand new skis. I don't think I've ever had better and more honest service. While I didn't buy the bindings, Crystal will now be my first-stop shop in Boulder for when I need a tune-up or all things ski-related. read more

Here is the reason that I love Crystal's - they have great attitudes, plain and simple. I have only been once, but here is how it went: Me: "Hi, Sports Authority, I want to go skiing tomorrow and need my bindings fit to my new boots, can you help me?" SA: "It's at least a three day turn around for something like that and no, I cannot recommend another place to take your skis to." Me: "ARRRGHHHHH, that's ridiculous!" Me: "Hi Crystal Ski Shop, I want to ski tomorrow and need my bindings fit to my new boots, can you puh-leez help me (even though I am very aware that I waited to the last minute?!?!) Crystal's: "We'd love to help, bring them in and we'll get it done in 15-20 minutes, no problem." Me: "I LOVE YOU!" that's it in a nutshell, besides the fact that the guy that helped me, Zech, was awesome and showed me everything he was doing and the girl that answered the phone recognized my voice from the phone and said how glad they were to have me come in. To top it all off, it was only $14 and I was out in less than 30 minutes. Beat that Sports Authority...you must be pretty embarrassed huh??! read more

We moved to Boulder in Sept and stumbled upon this local ski shop. My husband and daughter rented good quality skis and boots for a reasonable price. The fitting service was great, and the employees are knowledgeable and nice. After a few days on the slopes in Nov, my daughter's boots started to hurt, and Crystals happily swapped them out for another pair that fit better. We also ended up renting snowboard boots for my son, which also resulted in an extensive readjustment to his bindings. The staff expertly adjusted the bindings at no additional cost. This is where the customer service exceeds our expectations. We just returned on a very busy day needing another binding adjustment due to us taking the board to another shop and having the bindings changed. The owner of Crystals (Justin) very graciously adjusted the bindings at no cost and turned down my offered gratuity. We had a very nice chat while he spent about half an hour working on the board. We really appreciate the kindness and excellent customer service and will continue to use this local ski shop for our winter sport needs. Thank you Justin! read more

Great tune up on my guy's teles. They needed a base weld and a fill after he gouged out a giant hole going over some rocks last season and did his own shoddy repair. (You'd think he'd treat a pair 1k$ skis better). That said, those things are his babies. After pricing it out at Christy Sports, it seemed a little bit pricey and to be completely honest the kids working behind the desk did not impart confidence. Crystal Ski shop has "a guy" who does the tunes. When he handed him over he said they would take 12 days to tune up, because of the nature and location of the tear. But we're weekend warriors so he told us he could get them done for the weekend. Awesome. Picked them up- sharpened edges, smooth base and all. Definitely suggested for tunes. read more

Had a great experience renting snowshoes for an outing to Brainerd Lake last weekend. The staff is uber friendly, and there was no waiting. I'm new to Colorado, so this is my first full ski season. I went into this well-reviewed ski shop hoping I could pick someone's brain about skis, boots, and season passes. I was not disappointed by the friendly staff, who patiently answered all my questions and taught me lots about skis: everything from turning radius, rocker height, and DIN settings to how skis are tuned and waxed. And though they graciously took lots of time to explain rental options and let me both try on a few pairs of ski boots and meticulously examine a few pairs of skis, I did not feel pressured to rent at all. I'm rather expecting to buy a pair of boots from Larry's and then demo different skis throughout the season. Because of my inexperience with ski shops and rentals, I can't confidently say much about the rental rates, quality of equipment, or selection of demo skis. But what I can say for certain is that the staff I encountered today were friendly and helpful, and they truly seemed to have my best interests in mind. read more

Earlier I went to Christy sports to rent to cross country skis yet since my girlfriend wasn't there they would not rent them to me. I planed to take her on a surprise cross country ski trip. so I said "OK fine I'm just gonna go find somewhere else that would do it." Sure enough Crystal hooked it up! They understand. It gets better! We were not able to go because she ended up being sick that . After Crystal had found out about that they wrote me a free rental pass for the exact rentals. THANKS GUYS YOU ROCK! Had them mount a pair of skis for me and they completely butchered them!! the bindings were way off from the center of the ski. Unfortunately I didn't notice at the time but when I went to ski on them it felt like i was skiing a 110 under foot when carving left and a 100 under foot when carving right. I Had to take my the bindings off that they mounted in the wrong place and remount my skis further back then I wanted them. Basically they put a set of holes in my skis that completely messed up the entire ski. To top it off when they asked me where I wanted my skis mounted I said -4cm from true center and no one including the lead ski tech in the shop new what that meant. I have been skiing for years and have worked in skis shops and other jobs in the industry. PLEASE PLEASE never let these guys touch your skis I wouldn't even trust them to tune my edges properly. If you are a day skier and just looking for some rentals for a few days then this place is fine, but I don't think the techs and people working in this shop are capable of much more then setting a rental binding to a boot and changing a din. Just around the corner from REI, this spot is a gem. It's hard to find but definitely worth looking for. I was originally looking for this shop to rent snow shoes but couldn't find it and went to REI instead. Saw the prices to rent snow shoes were almost twice as expensive as Crystal's so decided it was worth looking for. I'm so glad I did because the customer service here was great. Renting was easy, quick and informative. I had a young employee help me out and he gave me tips on trails and whether rental insurance was recommended. Would definitely come back! read more

Outstanding, small, personal ski shop in Boulder. I worked with Nina, who is amazing. So much knowledge, energy, patience, and desire to get the customer into the right equipment. I rented a seasonal ski package, and I cannot describe how above and beyond Nina went to help me get it right. I was renting it for the 2018/2019 season, but I have a 2019 IKON pass which allows for 2018 spring skiing on the 2019 pass. Nina let me take next year's seasonal's this year so that I could take advantage of the IKON's spring skiing benefit. She sent me out with a package they had in the shop before she had gotten all of the 2018 seasonal's back from this season. When they did start coming in, she called me on the phone and told me to come in and trade my equipment for something that had come in that she thought would work even better for me. Amazing Service!! The other shops that I called to get an early pick up on next season's rentals refused to let me do it, only Nina was happy to help. It was an ok experience but my girlfriend and I were overall underwhelmed. When we went to rent 2 of the employees were arguing with each other and the guy that helped us came across as somewhat snobby. We also tried bringing our boards back to be tuned as both of our boards had binding issues but the same guy who helped us previously before told us they were fine and made us feel as if we were just dumb and not experiencing what we were. We brushed it off until we visited another shop in town and had a much more enjoyable overall experience and what we feel to be better quality equipment. read more

I was really trying to like it... but: 1. every time I rent skis, I have to wait 45 min to 1 hour. 2. the reservation form on their website doesn't work 3. when you have reservations, you have to wait in line with people who don't have reservations and need to be measured from head to toe 4. Went to Boulder to visit my favorite CU student this weekend and had the pleasure of going to Crystal to rent skis. Nina and her staff were super attentive and kind while helping us with our rentals for A-basin the following day. After our ski day, I decided to get my CU student a seasonal ski rental so that she could practice skiing. (She's a great boarder, but wanted to learn to ski.) Again, Nina and her staff were extremely helpful, and put a lot of effort into making sure that my girl got the right skis and boots. Nina mentioned that the seasonal rental would technically be due back in April when the ski season ended, but quickly followed that statement by saying that if we wanted to keep the skis until A-Basin closed in June, that was totally fine. Nina knows a lot about skiing and ski equipment, really cares about her customers, and offers a fantastic service. We love this shop and will definitely be back! read more
