My family always makes me think twice about frequency Cuban restaurants because being Cuban myself I am very hard with my expectations. I love this place. I feel the food is authentic and they have not compromised the flavors, spices, and overall cuisine because they are in Dallas, which tends not to be a typical Cuban Community, such as Miami or New York City. The staff is Cuban and you can feel their flavor in the atmosphere of the restaurant as well as in the food. For as long as this place is open, I will be a patron. read more

What a pleasant surprise. This small cafe has a fun Caribbean vibe. The food is fantastic. The ham coquette appetizer was a little crispy and came with mojito garlic sauce to die for. I got the oxtail and Hubby the chicken with onions. My oxtail was tender in a tomato sauce. The tostones dipped in the mojito garlic sauce could have been a meal. The best coffee I've had in Carrollton. I get cappuccinos and my wife gets cortadito. I tried hers last time and it was just delicious. Also the best Cuban food I've ever had anywhere. I had a pork dish named Mass de cerdo frita that was just amazing. It was super tender, came out very quickly, and was delicious. It had some sort of garlic and lime flavor to it, which I loved. Staff is always super nice. They speak English and Spanish. The place is decorated with Cuban pictures and nicknacks on the wall. Has a cool, little bar you can sit at. Had a great experience my first visit. The Cuban sandwich was big, of great quality, and had a generous portion of meat. I loved the platanos maduros. I'm not a fan of the French fries but that's also not why I come here. I will likely get a different side with my sandwich plate next time or just get the sandwich alone. I believe the restaurant is family owned, which makes it a much easier choice....I'm all for the support of small business. I had the Chuletas, which are accompanied with rice, black beans, and.plantains .... yummy!! I could probably eat this dish at least 3 times a week and I would never tire of it. Pork is a difficult meat to prepare to get it just right......these chuletas were cooked to perfection....tender, full of flavor, and juicy. The beans had just the right amount of spicy. Living in Texas you don't find GOOD Cuban food often. We have tried 4 different locations in the DFW area that claim to have good authentic Cuban food and from those 4 this one has been the best. Food was cooked to order (not reheated), lots of great seasoning. The service was okay. The vibe and music was great. My only complaint is that the building was SO hot. I'm not sure if the AC was OFF or what, but it was definitely uncomfortable. It'd be interesting if that were part of the "vibe", but like I mentioned before, this is TEXAS where 101° weather is the norm, not a nice breezy beach on Cuba! I'd say call ahead and order take-out. I have to confess I have no idea what authentic Cuban food is like. I grew up in Wisconsin so this is totally new to me. I have had a Cuban sandwich in Tampa years ago and liked it. I eat most of anything so I was more than eager to try something new. We ordered the cheese empanadas and the papas rellenas. The empanada was very light and fresh tasting. The papas rellenas hit the spot. It was like a deep fried mashed potato ball with meet filling and a touch of onion flavor topped with w bit of cheese. It seemed as it was carefully crafted with love. This is the work of a passion filled chef who is making love with flavor. Four of us ordered 3 Cubano and a pan con pollo. Grabbed food with the family during the holidays and it was a mediocre experience due to the consistency of our times there. Sometimes the food here is OUTSTANDING and sometimes it's meh. The roasted pork and cubano is amazing. However, the paella definitely needs work. The tostones are also a plus. The service needs some help. Our server was so busy that she was managing 5 tables at the same time and couldn't fully attend to everyone. Try not spreading your servers too thin. The atmosphere is really welcoming though. FIRST IMPRESSION- This is a store front and as you walk in, there is no greeter or someone up front at all times. I made my way back to a corner we're the register was at kind of behind a big painting. Found the menu, looked they it and decided to take something to go. After an awkward moment of a minute or two, a lady server came out and said hello and told me she will be right with me. After placing my order, I guess the owner or cook over heard my to go order and went back to place my order. I sat down and what it seemed to me a lady guest got up from her table and went to the kitchen! This tells me she either is an owner or spouse but either way she saw me walk in and kept on with her conversation with the other 5 people at her table. Stopped here after getting the new restaurant notification from yelp. We had a paella and a Cuban sandwich. I was pleasantly surprised by the paella. I just had a bad one recently and this one made me happy. It was fishy to my taste . I think other places are worried about the fish taste being too strong and end up messing it. I am not sure if it's a Cuban version , I found the rice to be different and it could lose the immitation crab meat. But the taste was there and I would order it again. What a great little find! Small but quaint, with great Cuban decor. We ordered yuca frita, tostones and empanadas de carne as our appetizer, each served with a small bit flavorful dish of garlic dip. The empanadas were tasty but could have used a little more meat. The yuca appeared to be mashed, then rolled into cigar size portions and fried. We then ordered Cubano sandwiches and vaca frita. The Cubanos were made with a larger bread than you would normally see, so the meat inside was dwarfed by the bread. The pulled pork was flavorful, and the mustard and pickle helped bring the flavors forward. The vaca frita was flavorful, as were the black beans that came with the plate. The owner offered my friend a free Malta since he had never tried it before, which was classy. I ordered a cafe con leche, which wasn't sweetened at all, allowing me to use artificial sweeteners the way I liked it. Probably one of the most authentic Cuban sandwiches I've ever had. Only way I could offer suggestions to improve it would be to marinate the pork to provide it with a bit more flavor. The bread was about as perfect for a Cuban as it gets. The fries were served plain. That's fine for people who enjoy ketchup with their fries, but for those of us that don't (rare), I would prefer some fries with a little bit of seasoning. The wait staff were very quiet. They need to speak up a bit more so that people can understand what they are trying to say with the music playing in the background (or lower the music volume a bit). Other than the giant photo from Cuba on the wall, the atmosphere is about as basic as it gets for a strip mall style restaurant. The owner offered a free pastry before I left. It was flaky, had a nice filling, and was quite delicious... like a cross between a croissant and a danish. Overall, it gets my recommendation.
