Well guess what, they were right and you were wrong. From the delicious Cuban coffee to the scrumptious Cuban sandwiches, everything about it screams Havana (but in a non-communist way). Served from a shack near the pier, don't expect a casual sit down experience. Shade and a seat are as about as easy to find as a snowman. Rather prepare yourself to rub elbows with tanned locals and lobster-red mainlanders. One thing is guaranteed, you will all be sweaty and either half or still drunk. Amost everything on the menu is less than $10, and the portions are large. And thought they may be known for their Cuban black beans and rice (not vegetarian) the king crop here is definitely are the sandwiches, which are pressed to a delicious flatness on a special sandwich press. Ate here today. I have to tell y'all avoid this place. They are not clean. I ordered a sandwich with Turkey cheese lettuce and tomato on Cuban bread. The outside was toasted well, but the inside was cold and mushy. The tomato tasted mushy and foul. I opened the sandwich to find mold covering the tomato. We are talking black with mold. How does a cook not see that much mold!? I told a cashier b/c there was no supervision and only got an apology. read more

I went to this place because it is highly recommended on Yelp. However, me and my friend were very disappointed. First, food is always the most important thing to a restaurant. I order tuna melt sandwich and a piño smoothie. Tuna was tasty but it was cold inside although the outside of sandwich is even hot to barely to hold it. WEIRD!!!And the description for the piño ingredients is pineapple, banana, coconut water and pineapple juice. However, the only flavor of the smoothie you can get is banana. I even ate a few little banana chunks which means they also didn't blend it well. As the price is not so cheap and the cup size is kind of small for the smoothie, I expected more pineapple flavor. Both of these two are not so good which let me feel a little bit surprised and don't understand why this place has so many good reviews. The other thing is, when we ate and sit on the seats that they provide, one of the employees was busy dealing with the food waste with buckets. Again and again. It was super hot today, and the smells was sooooo strong and it was so easy for us to see those food waste. Definitely disgusting! That made us really feel bad about this place. Place is kinda hit or miss. I am a local and I come here often. I have had days where I dont wait long, the food is great and the drinks done perfectly. More often than not however, there is an issue. Drinks done half assed, sandwiches not made very well, long long wait even when there are only a couple of customers, occasionally rude service. GREAT coffee! When in Key West I usually do some work for a couple guest houses nearby so I make it a point to walk over to Cuban Coffee Queen for my morning coffee and often a delicious breakfast sandwich. I'm in no rush so when the wait is a bit long I don't mind. It's a nice Key West ambience. I don't know why people are calling this a food truck? We only had coffee and drinks here, but came back every single morning for the past week, and got cold brew and ground coffee to bring home. This place is wonderful! I tried two of the smoothies, the raspberry one and the mango and both were so refreshing and cured my hangover from the Duval nights before! The coffee drinks were all great, and they offer almond milk for lactose free people like me! I had the cafe con leche, the Cuban American, and the iced leche all with almond milk and recommend all three, and also had two of the espresso shots (can't recall the menu name but I can come back and add it) My favorite was the cafe con leche hot. Great service from friendly staff and they don't mind if you ask questions at all. Around the side of the building is a beautiful mural painted "welcome to key west" a great photo op! One of the few places open at 6:30AM down in the keys. I guess there aren't many worms to be had by early birds down here. Luckily, at the cuban coffee queen there aren't any worms but there are sandwiches and coffee for the early humans. I came over at opening hour on a weekday and there was already a line forming. It moved fairly quick for made to order grub. This is a grab and go kinda place. There werent any tables or shaded areas but there were a few benches. If you're staying close by there was a sign advertising free delivery which sound more appealing than eating on a bench or in your car. Food / coffee was cheap, quick and decent. What's not to love about this not so hidden gem. They do what they do well. The line can fluctuate and you may have to wait a few minutes but it's worth it. Wowwww this place had horrible food. Service and everything else was fine, but how do you mess up serving a Cuban sandwich? This mess of a combination had the most supermarket-style, inauthentic ingredients -- on top of just smothering the Cubans with mayo. Disgusting. The only sandwich that was good just had simple sausage and jalapeños with them. Did I mention they were $9-10 sandwiches? Subway could make better sandwiches. Same with the coffee, you can find it for way cheaper and better quality in Miami, let alone somewhere else. Love it. One of the best parts about this place is that they do dairy substitutes! Great coffee. I had the Cuban bagel which was VERY good. Essentially it's sweet Cuban bread glazed with guava and sprinkled with the toppings of an everything bagel. Then there's cream cheese between it (not dairy free sadly). This is like a food truck without wheels!!! My wife and I stayed in key west for our Honeymoon and came to Cuban Coffee Queen twice. This was the perfect pick over a resort K-Cup. The sunrise combo was a lifesaver on the trolley tour around Key West! The coffee is truly amazing even in the Keys humidity. As far as coffee goes on the Florida Keys there are not to many that really give you what your looking for. The Cuban Coffee Queen is by far the exception to this statement. There are two locations for them in Key West and on my visit I hit up the Margaret Street location.We opted for Two Iced Cuban Coffees. Both were outstanding! Great taste, and a really good bold strong roast. A cool thing the Cuban Coffee Queen also does is use frozen coffee as the ice cubes so that once your coffee runs out and the ice begins to melt it's like getting a refill and with the heat this is a great idea!
