This is a great place for little kids to get their hair cut in an environment that is comfortable for them. The first time my son ever had his hair cut was at a place in Fremont and he was absolutely miserable and ended up with a bowl cut- so we tried Cubby Cuts and the results were great. My son had a whole different attitude here, cooperated for the hair stylist and loved playing with the toys and being able to watch cartoons while getting his cut. The hair stylist ( I'm so sorry I forgot your name) is obviously very patient and very good at what he does. My son hasn't had a bad cut yet. This is definitely our go-to place for my son's hair cuts. Recommendation: call way ahead of time to secure an appointment. They are super busy so I try to call a week ahead or so. read more

Didn't catch the stylist's name, but my son had a great first haircut. We booked our appointment online about a week before, which was good because it was super busy. The waiting room is so fun for my son, and he enjoyed the haircut car so much he kept trying to get back in it. My son is diagnosed with mild ASD and a sensory processing disorder (sensory seeking), so I was really nervous going in. I also have another salon much closer to me, but when I called they refused to make an appointment. I explained that my son cannot wait for multiple kids, and it was just pulling teeth. So I'm glad they did that so I could come here and have a painless, amazing memory! Our stylist did not make me feel bad at all for not brushing my son's (very tangled curly hair) ahead of time, he just worked through it. He explained every choice to me and why you would make one vs the other. I didn't really want to cut my son's hair but you know peer pressure from fam lol. WOW! Didn't think a place that only cuts hair for kids would last this long but going back and forth for 5 years we had a try since we just had kids and it is their first haircut. My daughter had her haircut with Mike yesterday evening....FANTASTIC!! I was so afraid she was going to cry and scream but not one peep. She sat on her little truck and talked away as Mike did his magic on her locs. Not sure what all the complaints are about but we had a great experience. I took my 11 month old son here for his first official haircut. I was very pleased with the haircut Mike gave to my son. He was fast and made it very bearable for my son. Also, I loved how kid-friendly the place is, my son loved looking at all the different cartoons and the tv at his station. And he got to sit in a little red car. I read all the other reviews about bad customer service and can say i didn't have that experience. He was friendly and focused on his work. Cutting hair on squeamish young kids/babies is not easy. As a parent to an autistic child, hair cuts are very stressful. You don't want to be the parent who handles a screaming and kicking child at Great Clips. with the hair dresser looking horrified and resentful and the other patrons nosing in. Cubby cuts was an amazing save. Very intimate and totally cool and adept. It wasn't easy for our boy, but it was fast and his hair looks better than ever. Thank you! We took our 20 month old son for his first official haircut here today, on a Sunday. There wasn't too long of a wait when we arrived but it was okay since the place had plenty of toys to offer for kids. They even have a bouncy house inside, for an extra fee. Our boy is one who can't sit still for a long time so I wasn't so sure how he will behave during haircut. Mike is awesome! He has a lot of patience both for the kids and the parents! The place is super clean with tons of toys and things to occupy kids. We took our 1.5 year old son in for his first haircut, He had fun playing in the toy clubhouse and enjoyed sitting in the car to get his haircut. The hours posted on this website, Yelp, (for Sunday at least) are incorrect. What does the store rep say when we call them at 10:30am, standing outside their door with our one-year old hoping we can get his hair cut before too long when he'll be ready/fussy for his nap? "We open at 11." What does he say when we alert him to the fact that Yelp has the hours wrong? "We don't control that -- it's posted by reviewers." What great customer service! I understand not being able to correct all third-part website misinformation, but given the large role that Yelp plays in advertising for many Palo Alto/Mountain View businesses, you'd think they'd be a little more interested in correcting the hours. All of this is even more true when you consider that bringing small children out for something as trying as a haircut requires attention to their nap schedules/peak fussiness periods. We'll try for his first haircut next weekend, but next time we won't bother with this place and will go straight to Snip-Its (heard good things). read more

I took my almost four year old here for his second haircut in his life, after he got traumatized the first time, screaming in my lap at the salon near our house. He liked the toys in the waiting area but was almost about to leave until he saw the Thomas chair which was just too nice to pass up on. After a short wait (we walked in at 4:30 on a Sunday), it was his turn, and NO tears what so ever!! They did not use clippers, just scissors, which I think helped. The lady who cut his hair was soft spoken, careful, and very gentle. She did not try to be funny or overly energetic, just normal. After the cut, he said he wanted to come here again for his next haircut. The following day, he asked me if he could get another cut already :-) Oh and I liked his haircut too. Afterwards he discovered more toys and we played some more. And I forgot to mention that I was allowed hold his hand (while holding his brother) while he got the haircut. read more

Took my then 10 month old here for his first haircut, and oh boy, did he cry and freak out!!! Poor Mike. I'm not sure how he managed to stay so calm and cut the boy's hair in about five minutes. I'm officially done with this place! I've been here a dozen times because the owner, Michael, does a good job with the hair cut, so I've stomached the rudeness of the entire staff, including Michael's. He has never said one word to my kids or even smiled during the haircut, like he's doing us some huge favor by having him cut their hair. $23 plus tip is a total ripoff especially to put up with the unfriendly service! Michael is usually the only one cutting hair during the week, but on the weekends the other stylists suck, and they won't let you request to have a specific person cut the kids' hair. Seriously! Why can't I just wait to have the stylist I want!?? My last straw: I have gone twice and arrived at 10am when they open and had to wait 10-15 minutes for Michael to open! It says on the door and on their machine they open at 10am. Neither time has he apologized for being late despite having 2 screaming kids wait in the car for that long! Today, I actually said, " we waited 10 minutes" hoping to at least get an apology...no chance. Instead, he says, "you should have made an appointment". Uh...excuse me? Maybe he should advertise they open at 10:15. Sorry if it's too much trouble for him to work a 6 hour day (they open at 10 and close at 5 and close for one hour at lunch). That's no way to run a business and no way to treat a customer!! He tells me again, "I should have made an appointment". I shouldn't have to make an appointment during the week when I know it's not busy...it's not my problem that he can't get to work by 10am. Seriously, I don't need to deal with this crap just to get my son's haircuts when there are plenty of other places. it's not like it's particularly clean or anything. read more

The last time I came here I walked in with my son. The receptionist (Who i think is the wife) was so rude. Asked us if we had an appointment, I said no but she took us in anyway. The haircut was great and I'd glady pay for the price. Today, I just called to make an appointment to avoid getting asked when I walk in again. A guy answered and said that it's easier if I should just walk in. I told him that the last time I did that, I was asked to make an appointment. Since they dont have an opening for today, i asked if i can book one for tomorrow and he said that he doesnt know what the schedule is like and that i should just walk in again. I never usually bother writing reviews -- but my experience at Cubby Cuts was the worse ever. The haircuts were at best mediocre. The hairstylist did not say a word to my daughter or son while cutting her hair...that was strange but okay. But the receptionist had to be the rudest person I have ever had the misfortune to meet. The good - My kid sat on a jeep and got a haircut while watching some cartoon. She enjoyed the experience. The bad & ugly - The stylist was very uptight. She did not utter a word and just kept cutting. Not friendly and makes you wonder what made her join this kids place in the first place. She smiles when you are about to pay.. and tip!. If I could give 0 stars I would. I took my son here for his first haircut. Even though he did well, I thought the staff was not very friendly... she didn't talk or ask us what kind of cut we wanted and she didn't talk to my son or smile, or do anything as she was just cutting away. I hated the cut. She went too fast for me to stop her, and she almost cut all of his hair off. It was also very uneven. I could have done a better job. Even though she KNEW it was his "first haircut" I had to keep reminding her that we wanted to save a piece of his hair. She didn't seem to care that it was his first cut, and didn't make it very fun or eventful. It all seemed like it was their first time they were ever asked to save a lock of hair....?? Uggghhh... and another thing.... too many RULES RULES RULES.... no cash accepted, can't request a stylist... etc etc... it was such a turn off... oh, and you can't even bring more than one adult into the salon area-- which means my husband couldn't even bring in the video camera so we could capture his first cut. I walked out of this place swearing to never go back today. I've always thought the haircuts were overpriced but I continued to go back because my son likes the haircut chairs. Today we walked in right after their lunch (They close for an hour in the middle of the day!) and we were told it would be a 40 minute wait. I knew that we would have to wait on a Saturday so I gave the receptionist our name. After about 5 minutes we ran across the street to get a drink. When I returned and sat down the receptionist said that she thought we left and we were now at the bottom of the walk-in list. We didn't miss our turn, the woman before us was still waiting with both of her kids. I took my son somewhere else and got a $12 haircut. I have taken my 2 year old son Bubba several times to get his hair cut at Cubby Cuts. Bubba still freaks out and cries each time he goes in for a new cut. Mike is amazing and super fast. I took my 2-year-old son to Cubby Cuts for his third ever haircut. The shop is divided into two major areas: the waiting area (toys and space to roam) and the haircut area (haircut chair/vehicles, TVs, and, oddly, a bounce house for $3/child). Mike led him straight to the haircut area, where my son immediately settled on the tractor. In previous haircuts, my kid's been clingy, whiny, and has cried, but here, he seemed only a little bit annoyed. I think it was due to the plethora of sensory inputs available: TVs with Thomas the Tank Engine, many books to flip through, and lots of toys to play with. Mike did a good job on his hair, and my son liked choosing between a lollipop and sticker when he finished. Use the $5 off Yelp coupon if it's your first visit! I give it 4 stars because the cost could be lower, and because there are a couple of understandable stray long hairs. But unless I can find a cheaper place, I'd definitely go back! read more

We have been to this place many times in the past, mainly because it was the only game in town in Mountain View. Good: Michael is a great stylist and our son's haircut was always good. I don't really care much if he talks or not talk to my son. As long as the haircut is good it's fine with me. Bad: The wife/receptionist/enforcer. Man, talk about somebody who should never be in front of customers. Every time I talked to her she made me feel like an idiot and I was just trying to pay!! To say she does not have customer service skills is an understatement. I can live with the rest (a bit overpriced, too many rules) if the haircut was good (which it was all the time) and I was treated decently (never by the receptionist!). We now go to Snip-its in Palo Alto are very happy with their haircuts AND customer service. I would only go back to Cubby Cuts if the wife/receptionist was not around. My son hates getting his hair cut... the employees are so patient and understanding as he screams and cries throughout the entire experience (he's only two). They work very quickly and very hard to distract him and make his cut as enjoyable as possible. They offer a choice of lolly pop or sticker after the cut, which is great with me - my son always picks the lolly pop (go figure!). At $20, it's a great deal for us and we always get an appointment for the time we need. Of course, they do take walk-ins as well and have a great selection of toys and video games for the kids to play with. read more

Our baby has been getting his haircut here ever since his first haircut at 4 months old!!! Since then we have been back four times and he has still not turned 1 year old. Yes, the price could be better but every visit you will get a $1 off for next haircut coupon! My summary & theory is that the barber here may be good at toddler boys' haircuts, but isn't great at toddler girls' cuts. Here's our story: one day, we admired our friends' son's haircut and they said, go to Cubby Cuts! They commented on how quickly the barber worked, and how even the cut was (indeed it looked quite even). So we took our toddler daughter there and Cubby Cuts has cut her hair twice. Both times, our daughter's hair ended up somewhat choppy and uneven. That said, the barber was very nice, especially the first time when our daughter wept through the entire process (she got weirded out being buckled in by a stranger). At first, we thought the choppiness was due to the fact that the barber tried to complete the first cut quickly (on account of the weeping client). But the second time, our daughter was calm and happy, and the cut was still choppy. So we're off to try another salon. On the place itself: it's a bit crazy, cramped, and kind of dimly lit to me...lots of toys, a TV on in the play area, and even a small bounce house you can pay to let your kids jump in, with everything crammed into a small retail space. My kid didn't seem to mind, but wasn't enormously into it either (but your child might have fun). We did like the barber's muscle-Batman apron. I would go 3 stars, but our friends' son's cut looked good, and the barber is quite nice, so up to 4 stars. read more

The woman at the reception was obnoxious and failed to even recognize our presence let alone acknowledge the fact that they had received a call for our appt. and had NOT noted it down. 4. We made an appointment for our son's first haircut. And we were disappointed that they would not allow both parents in the haircut area together. It's his first haircut... and there were no other customers in the shop at the time, so it really didn't make sense to be inflexible. The place is also rather dark and loud. There is loud TV with screens at each station, which could be an advantage except that we would rather not have our kid exposed to it. OK, so I thought maybe we could ask to have it turned off seeing as he was the only kid in the place at the time. But no...
